hi there everyone and welcome back to
the channel today we're going to be
testing some batteries from beta fpv
these are 1s lithium High volt packs
designed for tiny whoops and we're going
to be looking at the new lava series
their 260 Milah 300 Mah and 550 Milah
packs we're going to be testing them all
on the battery tester and we're going to
be looking at both the variation pack
to- pack and also how these batteries
stack up against all of the other 1s
tiny woop packs that I've tested it's a
lot to cover in one video let's not
waste any more time let's dive right
into it if you're interested in product
recommendations backed by scientific
testing then please check out the links
down in the video description to my
website AOS rc.com there you'll find
recommendations for props Motors
batteries Electronics everything that
you could want for your fpv drone to
make sure that you get the best
performance and the best possible flight
experience don't waste your money check
out those links and if you want access
to my full database of product testing
results then all of that is available on
my patreon and there's a link down in
the video description for that as well
please check those out I'd really
appreciate it to test these tiny mop
batteries we need a little battery
analyzer so this is my West Mountain
radio CBA battery analyzer and I can
take a tiny mot battery like this plug
it in and I can do a programmed
discharge so we can test various
different aspects of the battery with
both a constant power discharge which is
kind of the standard test for batteries
and also a burst discharge test as well
the first test we're going to look at is
a constant power discharge test so we're
going to start the pack at fully charged
4.35 volts and discharge it all the way
down to fully empty at 3.1 volts and we
could discharge lower than this but I
use 3.1 volts as the low cutof voltage
for all of my battery discharge
testing we discharge the pack at
constant power so we calculate That
Power by taking the nominal voltage of
the cell which is 3.8 Volts for these
lithium High volt packs multiplying that
by the capacity of the pack in amp hour
which is 0.3 for a 300 Milah pack and
then multiplying that by 15 because this
is a 15 C constant power discharge test
that gives us the power that the battery
has to deliver during the discharge
which is 17.1 wats and obviously as you
would expect at 15c the battery
discharge takes just about 4 minutes the
second test we're going to look at is
the burst test and this starts off quite
similarly to the constant power
discharge test again we're starting off
with the battery fully charged and we're
discharging it at 15 C but this time
it's constant current not constant power
so we're discharging it at 15 times its
capacity in amp hours in amps so for a
300 milliamp battery that's going to be
4.5 amps we discharge for 48 seconds and
48 seconds at a 15c discharge rate is
going to take the batter battery down to
exactly 80% full at that point we start
ramping the current that we demand from
the battery and we ramp it until the
voltage of the cell Falls below 3 volts
and then we stop the test this gives us
a really good measure of how much power
the battery can deliver from 80% full at
its sort of Maximum possible discharge
current before the voltage Falls below 3
Vols per cell and by doing this
consistently for all the batteries it
gives us a really good comparison
between different batteries as to how
much performance they're going to give
you if you push them really really hard
let's dive into the data now and start
by taking a look at the 260 milliamp
packs under a constant power discharge
test and I tested five different
batteries so we've got five different
curves here and the curves are all
pretty consistent which is nice to see
there's not a huge amount of variability
between different batteries of the same
design and it's also really good to see
that all five of these packs delivered
more than their rated 260 Mah of
capacity under a 15c discharge test and
this is really very unusual because when
batteries are rated they're typically
discharged very slowly 0.1c is a typical
discharge rate and that means that you
get a bit more capacity out of them when
you're discharging much faster at 15c
which is typical of what we do in an fpv
flight the batteries normally don't
deliver as much capacity and so you'd
expect them to only to deliver 90 to
maybe 95 % of their rated capacity but
all the batteries in this case delivered
more than 260 milahs and that's really
nice to see if we move on to look at the
300 milliamp packs again all five packs
that I tested very consistent with each
other and again all of them delivering
more than their 300 Milah rating in the
15c discharge test which is really great
to see when we look at the 550 mli
batteries it's a similar story all I
tested four of these and they're all
very consistent again and these 550
milliamp packs really delivered quite a
lot more than their rated capacity I
mean they all delivered nearly 600
milliamp hours and at this stage I
wonder if beta fpv you know could have
maybe given these a bit of a higher
rating because I would have been quite
impressed if these were 600 Milah packs
rather than 550 but um yeah you're
getting more than the rated capacity out
of these batteries even under a very
fast 15c discharge looking now at the
data for the burst testing here's the
results of the 260 mamp packs all five
of them under the burst test again we're
doing a constant current discharge to
80% full and then ramping the power up
and we can see how consistently all
these packs perform there is nothing to
choose between them all the way up this
ramp and it shows that under this burst
test the performance is very very
consistent across all of the five
batteries that I tested and this
consistency is really really good to see
they Peak at 13.26 amps at 3.1 volts per
cell which is really very impressive for
such a small 260 mAh battery and that's
a 51c rating um under the way that I
determine C ratings I have to be clear
my C rating is not the same as the
manufacturer C rating but my C rating is
comparable across all the different
packs that I test looking at the 300
Milah packs now we can see again a
similar story to the 260 Mah pack the
batteries are all very consistent and
there's not much to choose between them
on the uh Power Ramp we do see perhaps a
little bit more variability than what we
saw in the 260 mlia packs but still very
very little we have to note that the
maximum power output about 45 watts is
almost identical to the 260 Mah packs so
even though the battery is bigger um
you're not getting any more maximum
power out of it the measured C rating is
therefore a little bit lower due to the
larger battery capacity so we're
dividing effectively the same current by
a slightly larger capacity and that
gives us a c rating of 45 C rather than
the 51 that we got for the 260 milliamp
packs and this is actually reflected in
the manufacturer C rating as well the
260 milliamp packs get an 80c rating and
these 300 Mah packs get a 75c rating
when we look at the 550 Mah pack packs
during the burst test again we see great
consistency between the four packs that
I tested and there's not much to split
them as we go up this ramp maximum power
output is about 1.8 times greater than
what we got out of the 260 millia packs
but the capacity is 2.11 times greater
so again the C rating is a little bit
lower on these 550 Milah packs compared
to the 260 and we're getting a measured
C rating of 44 C under my test
conditions and again just to reiterate
this is not the same as the
manufacturer's test conditions now we
have to take a look at how these
batteries compare against some other
options from different manufacturers and
we're going to start by looking at
energy density this is a measure of the
amount of energy that's stored in the
battery in W hours divided by the weight
of the battery in grams so it's a really
good measure of how much flight time a
battery is going to give you we can see
that the beta fpv lava 550 Mah it's a
big battery and it's got fantastic
energy density so it's going to be ideal
for really long flight times and it does
really well on this metric it's better
than any other 1S Battery that I've
tested for energy density when we're
looking at the smaller packs the 260 and
the 300 Milah beta fpv lava we can see
that the 260 Mah does a little bit
better than the 300 but both of these
batteries are doing really well in terms
of energy density and they're sort of in
that top tier and it's what we would
expect because these are of course
folded cell batteries and that
technology is known to be superior than
wound cells in terms of overall
performance for our tiny whoops if
you're wondering what the difference
between a folded and a wound cell is I
have a fantastic video where I cut apart
a bunch of different tiny batteries
to show you how they're constructed
inside I'll put a link to that down in
the video description if we look at C
rating now and obviously this is not
equivalent to the manufacturer C rating
but it is comparable across the packs we
can see that the beta fpv lava 260 mamp
is right up there over 50c and it's very
very similar to the very best packs I've
tested before from the likes of Doom um
newbie drone and gmbb those very very
high cated packs and the beta fpv lava
is right up there and not surprising
that folded cell technology is working
hard the 300 Milah and the 550 milliamp
don't do quite as well as the 260 in
terms C rating because although they
deliver similar or even more power they
are larger capacity packs and so we have
to divide the current that they deliver
by that larger capacity and that reduces
the C rating but that c rating is still
pretty respectable when compared to um
other options from gmbb and sub 250 in
similar sizes so these are still you
know modern contemporary packs and they
have good performance in terms of C
rating let's look now at at Power
density this is a measure of the amount
of power that we can get from the pack
when it's 80% full divided by the weight
of the battery and this is a really good
metric for determining how fast your
quad is going to be able to accelerate
what its top speed is going to be
because obviously you are taking into
account the weight of the battery so a
lightweight pack that can deliver a lot
of power is going to make the quad move
faster accelerate more quickly than a
similarly powerful pack that weighs a
lot more again the 260 milliamp power
pack is doing really well here in terms
of power density and because this is
also a very lightweight pack it's only
7.1 G or so it's a great pack if you're
looking for relatively short flight time
but um for a tiny Loop that has a lot of
maneuverability and a lot of top speed
because you're keeping that weight
really low that power density is very
similar to the Doom 320 and the newone
nitron to gold and these packs are the
best I've ever tested so it's right up
there in the top tier
then we drop down a little bit to the
550 Mah beta fpv lava again power
density of this is doing really well
it's better than um a similar size pack
from sub 250 and it's trading blows with
the tattoo rline 300 milliamp also a
folded cell and this g&b 300 milliamp
which um isn't a folded cell but it's
one of the best performing wound cells
I've ever tested so having looked at all
of the test data it's time for me to
decide whether or not to recommend these
beta fpv lava 1s batteries to you and
looking at the 260 and 300 Mah packs
first they are very nearly as good in
terms of performance as the NewBo nitron
to gold and the Doom 320 Mah they are
not quite as good as these top
performers but they're getting up there
they're getting pretty close and they're
using the folded cell technology that we
know to be really Superior for tiny woop
packs but I think the most important
factor here is the price the performance
is very nearly as good but the 260 and
300 milliamp packs are priced anywhere
from 20 to 30% less than the equivalent
packs from newbie drone or dogc per
battery so sometimes the pack sizes vary
but per battery they're between 20 and
30% cheaper and that's a big price
difference and if I know that price and
availability are going to change
depending on where you are and what
shops you're you're buying from but if
you can get those batteries at that 20
to 30% cheaper price the performance is
very nearly as good and unless you're a
racer who is absolutely focused on
getting the maximum performance
regardless of cost then uh that value is
definitely going to be something that
you're going to want to think about when
it comes to the 550 Milah packs um the
pricing there is actually more similar
to other options but the performance is
really really good that 550 Milah pack
delivers performance that's more similar
to like a 600 mamp pack so again the
price if the price is good and the
availability is good where you are then
I think you can confidently pick that
550 Mah lava 1s as a good option as well
hopefully that's helped you make your
buying decision there are links down in
the video description to where you can
pick up all these batteries today and
some of them are affiliate links which
means that if you happen to use them
click through you can buy the battery
you won't pay anymore but you will help
support the channel a little bit of uh
the profit that the retailer would
otherwise make comes to me and that
helps support the channel you don't pay
anymore it's a win-win for all of us so
if you can I'd really appreciate it if
you'd use those links that's all I have
for you for today so until next time I
wish you all very very happy flying
