Paper Table - iPhysics
Summary
TLDREmily and Jordan's paper table project involves creating a sturdy table using rolled newspaper tubes. They made long supports by combining two pieces of newspaper, divided them into sections, and folded them into rectangular shapes for the main supports. They added a central support for stability and wrapped additional tubes around the base and top for lateral stability. After thorough assembly, the table was tested successfully to hold a book's weight. This project demonstrates an innovative and practical use of recycled materials for structural support.
Takeaways

Q & A
What materials did Emily and Jordan use to create the supports for their paper table?
-Emily and Jordan used rolled tubes of newspaper to create the supports for their paper table.
How did they extend the length of the supports?
-They extended the length of the supports by putting two pieces of newspaper together.
What was the next step after creating the supports?
-The next step was measuring the supports and dividing them into three sections to fold them into the two main supports.
What shape did they fold the supports into?
-They folded the supports into a rectangle shape, missing a bottom due to a lack of support material.
How did they ensure the main supports were stable for the book to rest on?
-They taped the main supports together to create a stable surface for the book to rest on.
What additional support did they add under the center of the main supports?
-They added a support under the center of the two main supports to distribute the weight of the book.
Why did they wrap two sub tubes around the base?
-They wrapped two sub tubes around the base to prevent the support legs from flying out from under the book when weight was applied.
What was the purpose of the triangle-shaped support they added?
-The triangle-shaped support provided additional lateral stability.
What did they do to ensure more lateral stability for the table?
-They wrapped additional tubes around the top of the table to enhance lateral stability.
What was the final outcome of their paper table project?
-The final outcome was that their paper table successfully supported the weight of the book.
Outlines
📄 Introduction to Our Paper Table Project
Emily and Jordan introduce their project, explaining that it involves creating a table out of rolled newspaper tubes. They detail the initial steps of rolling tubes to form the support materials.
📏 Measuring and Preparing Supports
The team describes how they combined two pieces of newspaper to create longer supports, then measured and divided them into three sections to fold into their two main supports, forming a rectangle without a bottom due to limited materials.
🛠️ Assembling the Table Structure
They explain how they taped the folded supports together to create a stable surface for a book to rest on. They added a center support to distribute the book's weight evenly.
🔄 Ensuring Stability and Final Touches
Additional steps included wrapping sub tubes around the base to prevent the support legs from slipping and adding another center support in a triangle form for lateral stability. Finally, they wrapped tubes around the top for added stability.
📚 Testing and Conclusion
The project concludes with a successful test of the paper table, showing that it works effectively. They wrap up the presentation with a demonstration of the table holding the book securely.

alright this is our paper table project
by Emily and Jordan we started off by
rolling tubes and newspaper to create
the material for our supports we did
this for a while and we put two pieces
of newspaper together to make longer
supports and we made a couple quite a
few then we measured the supports and
divided them into three sections so we
could fold them to create our two main
supports we folded them in a rectangle
missing a bottom just because we didn't
have enough support material anyways we
then tape them together to create a
stable surface for the book to rest on
next we added a support under the center
of the two main supports to give the
weight of the book something to rest on
in the center in the center
repeated it for the oh and then we put
wrapped two sub tubes around the base so
the support legs wouldn't fly out from
under the book when we put weight on it
then we added another support for the
center in a triangle form
this also helped provide lateral
stability
then finally we're apt to sleep um
tubes around the top of our table so
we'd have even more lateral stability
here we are testing it and it works and
that is our paper table project
