Transcripts
hi guys and welcome to my review of the
rt2 this is the company's latest imem a
single DD this time around uh just a
quick mention is that the naming is a
little bit or can be a little bit
misleading uh since the R1 which came
out earlier is actually a three Dynamic
driver I am and nevertheless they call
it R1 and this one is a single Dynamic
uh driver I am they call it the R2 so it
can be a little bit confusing anyway
this is the R2 a uh single DD as I
mentioned uh it's got a a 10 mm burum
coated driver uh in the back of the the
box he has some specs 32 ohms impedance
106 DB of sensitivity the whole box
again is very much leure kind of vibe so
I'm I'm assuming that once again maybe
this is probably made by L sure the
graph uh that is shown in the back of
the box is basically what I got when I
measured it but I'll show it to you in a
second um and that's it I mean the box
is very simple like I said very classy
straight to the point no no FRS you open
it up up and inside the IM came over
there and then straight away underneath
there there's a carrying case with some
paperwork and and the whole carrying
case actually you know has then inside
of it the the rest of the stuff the
cable and uh and the tips and so on so
let me just get this out of the way here
okay
so um I've actually got two units here
both colors okay uh a green aqua green
kind of face plate and this one which
has got like a orange gold kind of face
plate this is the stock cable as you can
see okay not a 4.4 termination not a bad
cable actually not not bad considering
this is
roughly uh going for about $39 uh
depending on on where you get it U yet
it is again all wound up but this one
here the second set is actually using an
upgraded A1 cable okay so much much
nicer which confers a whole it just it's
it's a nicer cable it's just in terms of
performance
questionable if there is going to be
really any difference or any significant
difference I actually measured both of
them this one measures a little bit
better than the stock one but there
isn't a whole lot of difference and
soundwise again there isn't um a big
difference I mean almost negligible
let's put it that way anyway stock cable
this is the stock cable the case simple
inside as I mentioned it brings the
cable brought the cable and the tips
which are again all these leure kind of
tips that you've seen and it brings
these also black more generic type ones
kind of a medium B size all right I am
using the lead sh the white ones on this
particular um unit and on that one I'm
actually using the the the black ones on
that one there all right anyway what
what what can we say about
the the IM let me just grab it properly
very small shell 10 mm brilliant coated
driver as I mentioned very small shell
fits really nice inside of my ear very
light I mean this is as light as can
possibly be I believe that this driver
might have some relation with the driver
used in the kadenza that I've also got
here okay and also in the t1s from t 105
all right all these three units actually
use a buril coated driver also there's a
the ivp IQ 100 also uses the same driver
so I believe that they probably are the
same driver okay uh I actually haven't
gone to the trouble of opening it up but
just by the way that they graph and they
sound it kind of it seems like it's the
same driver now uh a small correction in
terms of the sound is that or although
they are using this buril type of um
coated driver in the um R2 uh the the
the typical burum tber or tonality or or
you know has been stained slightly okay
so it's when you listen to it you
actually get get more perception that
maybe you're listening to an LCP driver
uh and and you know
once you have a lot of experience and
you've listened to a lot of IM IMS it's
not something which is fail proof uh you
you can make mistakes I've made mistakes
but usually you can kind of pick out
what sort of driver perhaps or driver
material is being used DLC LCP CNT
whatever okay anyway like I was say um
fits nicely with the tips that I'm using
the medium siiz you know beautiful just
sits beautifully in my ears doesn't bug
me it really like it sits it goes
totally inside of my ear you know my the
whole con everything just very nice very
very nice um what have I got then here
to compare the um R2 with uh
well I could have brought out a lot more
IMS but I thought I would stick with
these ones for for the reasons that I
will uh give XLS X1 Mark
II um the epz
G10 uh Cadenza Qs Cadenza the p
pi01 epz Q5 and the ew 100 they are
lined up uh in well this is how I
perceive them but they all lined up from
the the warmest sounding one to the
brightest sounding one okay that's how
I've lined them up uh now being warmer
doesn't necessarily mean it's bad being
brighter doesn't necessarily mean it's
bad this is just how I perceive them the
ew 100 uh sorry the ew2 200 comes across
to me as being the one that's got the
most
detail uh but clean detail because the
epz has got about the same detail just
that
it is a little bit less polished on
occasions okay uh and again on the
opposite under the Spectrum the the R2
for example comes across as the one
that's the the warmest sounding one but
that doesn't mean that it necessarily
has lost detail or or it sounds wrong or
anything of the sort I used two songs
especially to very much dis distinguish
between them I used feel so good from
Diane Reeves and I used its on from
George Duke um feels so good uh the way
the song is the symbols the the the the
the you know the whole song has got
specific parts that enabled you to
distinguish very well in terms of the
mids and upper mids which uh of them is
doing it with more energy or less energy
and it's so it's on from George Duke the
the the the drum the Baseline that's
present uh enables you again to see
which one has got the tight the tightest
base the the marriage between that bass
drum and the symbols how they have
matched so it's it's I thought those two
songs I listen to a lot more songs but
those two specifically were very easy
for me to kind of position these IMS all
right
okay what is the sound here of the R2
the R2 has got
um could call it a a very um not going
to call it Harmon 100% um I'm going to
call it a a a relaxed Harmon okay if you
want to put it that way
um the thing that jumps to you straight
away when you listen to it is it's got a
very easygoing tonality a very easy to
listen to tamber uh and especially for
example it feels so good uh where you
have this this this um this symbol crash
constantly happening
um you how can I explain this you
straight away see that it's very mellow
in the way that it does it um as opposed
to for example something like the E200
which has got a little bit more
intensity behind it uh and that some
might even think that it's too much I
personally don't feel that it's too much
I feel that it actually gives the song U
and the whole presentation of the IM am
in in the whole the the necessary energy
that it needs okay but either either one
of them do it in a very agreeable manner
it's just in a question of what you
prefer you prefer a sound which is
slightly more open in the mids uper mid
and trible or you prefer you prefer
you're not a trible head let's put it
that way and you prefer a warmer more
cozy type of sound then you will go for
something more towards this end of the
spectrum
okay um that's the first thing that you
notice and other thing that you notice
very easily with these two songs between
all these IMS is how these three
especially the well say the Cadenza as
well but these three especially the
Cadenza the epz and the Q5 and the ew2
200 have got a lot more twinkies and
sparkly a lot more detail up top okay a
lot
more you know just like I said details
and the twinkly and sparkly as opposed
to these ones which also have a lot of
detail you know there's also a lot of
ample twinkly and sparkly just that they
are more relaxed more more more more
toned down and ultimately less fatiguing
if you want to put it that way
anyway uh base it's clean it's got a
nice nice nice tonality nice tber got a
good texture um it is slightly slower
than the base on for example uh the XL
xx1 slightly slower than the base on the
ew20 and slightly slower than the base
on the pull of the PA 01 uh these three
are probably the ones that have the most
incisive the cleanest base and I think
that's down to the fact that they've
probably got the best magnetic system in
in these these three drivers it's it's
that's how I perceive it it's I get the
feeling that these three drivers
magnetically have got the strongest
magnet system and it just tightens up
the base um you don't initially notice
it too much on the X1 uh but you notice
at the moment you push the volume a
little bit more you notice how it just
tightens up you know and it just slams
is really hard like clean and hard again
this this XLS X1 it uses the same driver
as the MIM Dark Magician if you guys
recall and this Mark III version is
definitely the best of the three
versions that they've um offered up to
now it's the one that's got the most
balance in the tune between the base and
the mids and the Trel um the highs it's
it's the one that's the the the R2 is
the one that's the most relaxed
unquestionably actually these two have
got the most relaxed highs um is is
there any lack of of detail acheval by
that I wouldn't really call lack of
detail acheval but there are instances
where you you feel that you lose a
little bit of that space that for
example something like the ew2 200 will
give you now you could argue oh but the
ew20 maybe is doing it in a in a way to
pushed manner so it comes across as
maybe being false or or or or colored
okay I can I can accept that argument uh
I don't I don't personally agree with
that I I think it's just the the way it
is anyway um an interesting an
interesting fact definitely with regards
to the to the R2 is although that it
uses that brillium c driver like I was
mentioning is you notice that it has a
sound which is more like uh for example
the the the the the the the the sound
that you find from from usually LCP
drivers like the sound that you find
from for example something like the um
the G10 which uses an LCP driver um and
it's actually quite interesting how uh
the diaphragm material yes will to a
certain extent dictate the type of sound
but it's also you know that's not the
only um the only case here where you
have that disparity between what you
probably would expect by the material
used by the diaphragm and what then you
actually hear for example the XLS X1 it
uses a DLC driver usually known for
having uh you know very good mid and up
you know up and mid and triple
presentation and in this particular case
the way that it's been done and tuned it
sounds a little bit darker uh another
one which also uses an LCP driver and it
doesn't sound like the more usual LCP
driver is let's say the the the the pa01
um usually LCP drivers are you know
better in the lower in the base in the
low mids and so on but they lose a
little bit of clean in the sub toop and
the pi01 doesn't do that and I think
it's down to the fact that it does have
a very strong magnetic flux in the in
its magnet system 1.6 Tas if I'm not
mistaken so you know um the diaphragm
material
I believe will definitely be a an
influence in what you can get in terms
of final sound but it's not only the
diaphragm material it's also the
magnetic system because you can have a
very
good you know material being used but if
the magnet system isn't strong enough to
then control and and let the diaphragm
move and stop as quick as it needs to be
or it needs to be done then you lose its
it loses its its
um it loses its significance let's put
it that way that's why sometimes you
hear some some things like um some you
he some P drivers well the majority of
them all basically pet in the base then
they all overlay with that that material
CNT LCP whatever it's very sent to find
a pure LCP driver or pure ber ber
drivers are very rare or CNT it's always
got a a p base but then they cover it
with those materials to improve the
tonality the tber and so but you hear a
more simple P driver like the ones that
KZ uses but because they actually are
using a good magnetic system system they
they sound pretty decent those Dynamic
drivers that's the reality you know
let's let's be frank here they might
just be using a standard P excuse me
diaphragm but they've taken care of the
magnetic system made sure that it's it's
ample and it's strong enough and the
driver sounds amazing anyway that's
that's a little bit of a of a side note
there that I wanted to just give um one
thing I I didn't mention and I'll just
quickly mention now is in terms of the
price there are two you can pick it up
for about
$39 just over $39 um the
XLS the X1 is about $49 so it's slightly
more expensive the G10 about $39 $40 as
well the Caden are about the same thing
$39 the um puller uh about um $50 give
or take the the the Q5 about the same
thing $49 $50 and the ew 200 about $39
to $45 depending on where you pick it up
so they all between the 39 and and $50
price bracket uh which is it's it's a
competitive segment okay uh I was going
to compare in uh well the R2 I was going
to kind of give you a comparison with
lower priced ones and higher priced ones
but I thought no I'm just going to
compareed with the ones at its price
range and if you guys then do want me to
make that comparison I'll I'll do it
I'll compare it with the more expensive
units and slightly cheaper
units um so yeah that's it overall the
sound of the the art two it's a a
relaxed sound that's that's the main
thing it's got a very easygoing very
easy to listen smooth presentation um
it's not it's you know it's not
fatiguing uh it's not going to offend
anybody um tber and tonality I think or
probably it's it's it's better uh um
technical capability uh and then in
terms of Sound Stage Imaging detail
retrieval resolution I would say they
are good for the price Sound Stage a
little bit on the smaller side iming
pretty decent it actually is able to
distinguish between things quite nicely
and no no real you know problems there
uh I would say I would say probably the
detailed retrieval is the one that I
would have liked a little bit more much
like in the case of the XLS X1 a little
bit more detailed retrieval a little bit
more to increas in sparkly but I mean
that's just
me uh overall it's it's a nice I am and
you know the truth is I can't really
fault it uh I conly say oh no it's it's
not good enough now which ones would I
Choose You Know if I have to be totally
Frank and totally honest any one of
these IM IM is more than capable more
than capable it's going to be down to
what you prefer ultimately do you want a
brighter cleaner more clinical
presentation then perhaps go for
something like the Q5 or the ew2 200 do
you want a warmer more organic more old
school type of sound and perhaps go here
for you know the R2 or the XL X1 do you
want something which is kind of the in
between I would say then okay the G10
the Cadenza and the the Pula allo in
between but it's all very um relative as
well because it depends how on your ear
anatomy how it will fit you uh you know
you
might take the ew2 200 for example put
it in your ears and it and it comes
across as a darkest sounding I am and
and some and that's an extreme case
obviously and the same thing can happen
here with R2 and you listen to it and it
sounds bright or something so it's it's
always a a very delicate issue for me to
stand here and say oh this one is the
one to go for they are all good end of
story these IMR are all good uh so I
think it's going to be down to things
like overall build quality if I take the
the R2 and I consider it's it's a
plastic raisin shell and I take the ew2
and it's a metal shell I mean this one
in terms of built is much more solid uh
but basically they're the same price
this is the B I am this uses and has a
very good driver inside it's a it's an S
what they called an SCP drive it's
basically the mix between a DLC and an
LCP type um materials uh so very good
driver built is buil uh quality is is
superior it's a metal shell it's going
to be more sturdy it's going to probably
last longer time you know longer longer
than the than this plastic shell on the
on the R2 um accessories wise um very
comparable I mean this has got a better
stock cable but in terms of tips they're
about the same thing so it's these
things that will ultimately be the the
the determining factors between them
okay
um because soundwise it's it's very easy
you want warmer you want brighter period
it's it's it's as simple as that um out
of all of them then if I have to um say
which are the the surprise IMS which are
the IMs that surprise me the most when I
listen to them uh well the G10
definitely was one of those uh I wasn't
expecting the G1 to be as good as it is
and I also wasn't expecting the pi1 to
be as good as it is I I I have to admit
that
the rest kind of um you know um they
kind
of filled my expectations let's put it
that way even the R2 I kind of uh when I
listen to it the you know taking taking
away just the fact that I thought it was
going to be a little bit more brighter
it kind of was um was more or less the
same thing um just one last thing for
example if you have a cadenza do I think
the r the R2 is a is a viable
alternative is a bit IM
honestly not really uh it's it's they
they both use Brum drivers they both use
probably the same drivers I mentioned um
but that's got a slightly more detailed
up top presentation this has got a
slightly warmer presentation so at most
they are side grades it's not one is
better than the other
um and I guess that's that's basically
it I mean guys there's there's really
not much more than I can say I'll show
you another the graphs and uh that's it
I'll wrap it up hi guys and come not to
the graph section yeah for the RTR R2
this is the graph of the RT R2 using the
Leer style tips so subbase Focus it's
almost flat by 200 HZ 250 HZ is
basically flat very slow Progressive pin
game picks at around four and then drops
off uh it's it's it's very smooth
everything sits within a window of more
less 8bs give Tech so it's it's fine the
one that I'm showing you now is the R2
as well but with the wideboard tip and
the wideboard tip does Cony the im a
little bit more sensation of space of
sound statue okay but anyway I'm going
to compare it with the OG tip which is
this one here first one I'm going to be
comparing it with it is the XSL X1 the
Mark III version Bas is very much as Sim
there's a little bit of a difference
there in the sub base but honestly I
didn't perceive it and then what you do
notice is that there is a slight more
bit of energy in the upper mids on the
XSL X1 which is
welcomed uh but again it's not as
differentiate as different as what you
see it's not it's not the the the
noticeable difference is not as
significant as this why because then in
this area here of 4 to six 7even the XSL
S1 loses so it it it loses energy in
that section while the RTR R2 has energy
so they kind of balance each other out
and that's why both of them sound very
similar the the XSL X1 does come alive
though is when you give it some power
you give it some power and that thing
comes alive big time um next one is
is the
sorry next one I'm showing you is the
epz the G10 I mean Bas is basically the
same as you can see however when you
listen to the G10 and you compare it
with the
um uh R2 you you you definitely notice
that the the the G10 has got a little
bit more detail retrieval there's a
little bit more of twinkly and sparkly
uh and it's it's sufficiently noticeable
okay let's put it that way it's not h
huge day and night but it's noticeable
enough for you to perhaps be more uh
engaged
by the the G10 the next
one
uh this one but let me change you
the color okay this is the Q years
Cadenza uh again Bas basically the same
uh a little bit more sensation of Sound
Stage yes if I'm comparing it with the
leral tips if I'm comp comparing it with
the other version us the Whiteboard tips
no you don't get that fly uh what you do
notice on the Cadenza is that the
Cadenza um although graphically you
wouldn't think so but it it sounds way
more forward way more you know way more
detailed than the um R2 does and I think
it's basically down to this difference
that we find up in mids okay so that's
that one out next
one is oops sorry next one is
the Pula pa01 again the Pula is very
similar across the whole frequency
spectrum but it sounds more energetic
More Alive more incisive more detail
more everything and technically it's
also superior but there you go um the
next
one is the my watches is the epz the Q5
again base similar
similar uh it's the difference that is
uh that that we find here is that upper
mid and treble is way more detailed on
the on the EPC there's more we twinkles
and sparkl there's more of everything
that just makes it
a I'm not going to say a better IM but
makes it a more lively IM okay um and
then finally compared with the SIM got
the
ew 200 once more we have a a great
degree of similarity in terms of the
base and and as well the mids and the
dips and everything it's just the aw200
sounds um more detailed in that 2 to 4K
area and there's way more Brilliance
there's way more detailed
retrieval more more twinkly at the top
end but if you look carefully at the
graph the graph doesn't look that
disimilar all right anyway guys I hope
um I was able to shed some light here on
the R2 nice I am I mean it's it's really
really a a leg back I am to listen to uh
everything sits within a window of
roughly 89 DBS uh so there isn't I would
at least I don't consider there to be a
whole lot of coloring or anything of the
sort no if anything it sounds darker
than what it graphs let's put that way
but um it's it's it's it's a solid I am
that's the truth the the R2 is a a solid
I in you just need to obviously now if
you can listen to it and and then make
make a a more informed decision um and
that's it okay guys anyway don't forget
like And subscribe any questions you
might have please feel free to ask me
take care now bye-bye
