Transcripts
hello everybody welcome back to my
channel today i'm reporting to you from
my home country of russia i'm visiting
my family i had to come here to help
them out and in the meantime i'm passing
my dental boards so i figured before we
return to our regular scheduled
programming i could share a little bit
about dental education in my home
country in case you're interested in
that obviously it's not related to my
main subject of immigrating to the
united states but i thought it could be
helpful as a bonus video if
you know you're interested in just
international dentistry because i know i
am first a little background on why i'm
doing this and why i'm going to
um doing my dental boards in my home
country i graduated people's friendship
university of russia in 2018 and i never
actually managed to pass my dental
boards it's not that i failed i just
never tried i moved in 2018 right away
after my graduation to get married in
america and i just didn't have time to
pass them now i figured it's a good time
to
actually get a license in my home
country because i'm done with my dental
education in america our dental boards
in russia are called accreditation
consists of three different steps first
step is the test
second step is practical skills and
third steps is like clinical tasks
clinical exam and third part is solving
clinical situations the test usually
consists of 80 questions which is not
that bad compared to american mbd
but
it is randomly selected of the database
of
4146 questions you have the questions
ahead of time so they're reported to you
you can study them and memorize them and
that's a good thing so you know exactly
the questions
that are going to be on the test there's
an app that you can use it's not
government issued when i was graduating
in 2018 actually they were giving the
questions to you with the answers and in
2020 i think they stopped doing that so
you don't know supposedly the questions
that you're gonna have but they did not
change the database so the questions are
all the same so everybody still knows
the questions for the exam so you
memorize those questions that's part one
i already passed it i got 85 which is
not great
usually to get into school to residency
for free
you have to have a hundred everybody's
striving for a hundred the interesting
part about it is that there's no real
structure or government uh way that you
take the test there's no set structure
of how you actually take this test so
different schools conduct them
differently and there's no
like specific government facility where
you can go and take this test like for
example in america where you take nbd
it's a specific private location they're
all look all locations are about the
same you just have to sign up on their
website and you can pick the location in
any in any state in any city you want in
russia it's not like that you actually
have to communicate with a particular
school where you would like to take the
test i'm from moscow and there are only
two schools that that are conducting
this government exam
uh which is very confusing because one
school does not even have a website
which i'm not sure what happened
it just does not the website's not
available
and so i couldn't have any information
to how to actually sign up to that exam
and another school has a website and
provided some information but has always
been very unorganized even though that's
the school that develops this exam and
developed this test
i did not it's the obsession of
university if you're in any way familiar
or interested in russian education which
i'm not sure you are but anyway
when i was applying to schools i chose
not to go to that school because it was
so complicated and now i still have to
deal with it and go and talk to them but
anyway i arrived to that test as always
i arrived early and fun thing that on
the website they gave you the address
and they gave you the date but they
never gave you the time so it's kind of
a fun game i've tried to guess what what
time
it's gonna be
they're gonna test me so i had to email
somebody and actually talk to somebody
which i hate doing like why can't you
just type the time off the test
um it was complicated for me because i'm
the only one who's trying to you know
vouch for myself and take this test for
myself usually
students upon graduation do it and
school provides all the information to
them and i'm alone i was doing this
alone so this was kind of difficult but
anyway i found my place where when i
arrived to the facility when the address
was given
there were no signs
or no nobody knew that the test was
happening that day so i was like where
am i gonna go
so i had to find some students like of
course you find a group of students and
you're just sitting there studying i
asked them i found them i found my place
and i arrived exactly the right time but
then it turned out they're asking
students to go and take the test
alphabetically which would be nice to
know ahead of time because my last name
isn't the end of the alphabet and i was
and i had to wait for a few hours which
was miserable
it only took me 20 minutes to take the
test but
it took me two hours to just wait for it
don't think that russian education
system is like that it's not it's not
usually and they're more organized
schools it's just this particular one is
trouble
so i also saw that there were a lot of
international students which pleasantly
surprised me there were people from a
large group of students from iran
that were trying to graduate as well so
it was
like really nice to see really exciting
um so i passed that exam i got the
results the next day and their system is
to let you know if you pass they call
you if you failed if they didn't call
you
supposedly i didn't fail but i was
really worried because my phone
reception is not really good i don't
really have the number here because i
permanently live in a different country
so i was worried like is my phone broken
or i passed the test which was kind of
weird the second part is practical
skills there are six stations that you
have to take they give you particular
texts that you have to memorize and say
it
out loud when you're performing the
skill it's a not a real patient it's
like a phantom it's a
type it on that you have to kind of
pretend to talk to i think it's a
similar thing in
many countries i think we copied it from
american wars but nonetheless it's
really funny when you just walk in and
you say i'm pretending to wash my hands
and there's a little
little printout that says sync and you
have to like pretend that you're washing
your hands so there are six stations
first is resuscitation like when you
have to pump the heart second one is
consultation oral exam anesthesia twos
extraction two spread for class 1
filling only and the filling of
the prep cavity with the cement material
decisions were really easy i came there
the wait wasn't too long they actually
did it right this time they told they
divided people by alphabet by their last
name and told each letter to come at
their particular time which was nicely
organized surprisingly i was very happy
about that
the stations were really easy i kind of
messed up my resuscitation which never
happens to me i'm really good at that
usually but i just got really nervous
and instead of counting to 30 which is
30 pumps to 2 breath i counted to 50.
but the good thing is you didn't have to
do the breath
so you could just keep pumping so it
didn't really matter but
i was like this never happens to me i'm
usually so good
so i didn't know
the results for the longest time they
didn't upload it for four days and that
was kind of get got me nerve-racking
because of that mistake but i did pass i
found out today another thing that
happened to me now there's this third uh
part that i have to go and take and i'm
not studying for it because the tasks
are really easy the tasks are like
showing you an x-ray and telling you
where's the cavity anybody can do that
it asks you 12 questions per task and
you only get and you get two tasks which
is i don't think is going to be
difficult but you never know
so i'm still i was pretty sure that it's
going to be
on a particular date which they
announced before but then they changed
it to a day before so i kind of had to
shuffle my plans
which is like typical so typical for
that particular school and again if
you're a foreign student
who is thinking of pursuing their
dentistry education in russia which i
know people do
and this is a channel for foreign trade
dentists if you would like to be a
foreign dentist in a foreign country and
you are thinking of moving to russia for
your dental education this is not the
norm they're more organized schools it's
just this particular one
is not a good idea if you wanna just ask
me for some recommendations for the
schools where you would like to go in
russia i will be happy to give you
multiple advices so feel free to reach
out on my instagram i'm still
returning back to the subject i'm still
taking this test so i'm gonna report
back
how i'm gonna how it's gonna go maybe
film something in the school and
tell you the results and hopefully soon
i'll be fully licensed sort of
uh in russia
if you're interested about general
education in russia and licensing
processes and
other stuff or not russia other
countries as well let me know it's
actually kind of fun to you know
globalize this uh dentistry conversation
it'll be very curious for me to find out
how other countries conduct their
education and get their licenses and
practice
so
that's all for now see you later and
we're back in that horrible horrible
place and here is my face
waiting for the time and turns out i did
pass that third step hopefully i will
never have to do it again so now i'm
fully licensed to practice dentistry in
russia so yay
