Transcripts
in this video we're going to do a long
walk through of all the ways to use the
teal job tracker there's going to be
chapters that you can jump around to if
you want to look for a particular topic
but we're going to make sure we cover A
to Z on all things job tracker all right
so here we are on the teal home this
assumes you just created an account and
you haven't done anything yet for the
job tracker and for you to get the most
out of it you really want to install the
Chrome extension and right now it only
works on Google Chrome browser doesn't
work on edger Safari or Firefox yet we
hope to get to that soon at least at the
recording during the uh when this video
was recorded so you're going to want to
on your home say install free Chrome
extension there's two ways you can get
to it there's extension on the menu or
there's uh this task on your home so
let's head over to the Chrome extension
in the Chrome Store you can see it's
been installed by a ton of people it's
got really great reviews so you go ahead
and add to Chrome
and you can say ADD extension
and pardon the old branding we still
have to fix that but it is going to
redirect you to LinkedIn and now when
you're on LinkedIn because this is where
it works best you're going to be given
the little tour of how to use it we can
just say end tour for now and you now
see the little duck in the lower right
when you hover over it you can click and
drag
and you can move it around and it takes
you to the job search page and when you
click on any job if you have the duck
active you'll see that it shows you
information about the job so that's how
to install the teal Chrome extension
right we'll come back to that now I want
to walk you through the job tracker
itself
so we're back on teal and on the left
you can see the job tracker that is the
tool you're going to use to manage your
job search pipeline so let's head over
to the job tracker the job tracker by
default has three sample jobs in there
so you can see it but let me walk you
through high level the interface of the
job tracker and we'll use these sample
jobs so you can see them and I'll show
you how to delete them all right so at
the top you've got an ad Banner
um you can pay to make that go away
we'll talk about that later but then
you've got your funnel these are the
main stages that the jobs should be in
talk about how we can filter that but
that's how you want to manage your
pipeline then you've got a table View
the table view is where you can see all
your opportunities and you can quickly
get access to them quickly make changes
I'll show how that works and then you've
got the menu over here on the left I
like to collapse it because I don't
really need that screen space right now
and when you hover over you can see any
of the tools but if you ever need it
back you just click the duck and it'll
expand it for you we'll go ahead and
minimize that all right now in the grid
view you have your position and the
company you can sort by any of these by
just clicking The Heading and you can
see well I didn't pick any that were
sortable because they were all the same
value but there you can see you can sort
by any of these then you have
information like salary location status
you can change
um only the first you can change but the
rest you can edit right in the grid so
if you want to update the status of a
job to say this one we're thinking about
applying to it now you can do that and
change the status and you can see one
job became applying you can see the date
you saved and then the date applied
which will be the date you move it to
applied you know this is sample data so
you can see it and then a follow-up date
this is the same annual reminder and
it's intentionally generic it's for
whatever the next follow-up is you can
just continually change that date and
then your excitement you can rate the
excitement of jobs which you can use to
sort all right then you've got a menu
here you can re-invoke the quick tour if
you want to get a tour of the tool we'll
go ahead and end the tool for now go
back to the grid
you can view your archive jobs which
we'll talk about in a minute and then
you have two forms of export you have
export As Time series data which can be
used to file for unemployment so it
shows it as a record of the activity and
then download data is a view that
matches the grid right so one might show
the same job over and over again showing
the changes in activity where the other
just shows it as a single record so you
can explore both of those everything
we're showing right now is free
and if you want to add a job manually
you click add job in here so you can
paste the job title the URL company name
location and the job description and
then you can save it right but the
Chrome extension is a far better way to
do that so we're going to look at ways
to do that all right so that is the
table view or the grid view of the job
tracker
and one thing just to make sure is this
Chevron is a filter so now I have that
applied job I can and then you can click
it again to uncheck the filter all right
that's the grid view then on any job you
can click in and now go to the details
of that job you can very quickly jump
from job to job that's why we keep this
kind of preview on the left if there's
quick things you want to do but then
you've got your core information up here
when the job was saved
um information about the uh the rating
the salary range you can add it again
I'll show you how you can extract all
that from the JDS real easy and then
your stages you can click these to move
the job through the stages right what
you see below that is contextual
information so you're going to get your
guidance based on the stage it's in and
that's always going to be here so if I
go back to applying you can sort of keep
track of the steps as you work your way
through applying and we guide you with
information step by step so say you want
to search Google News you just click it
and we automatically search the company
for you and so all those things are kind
of quick shortcuts to help you if you go
to get referral you can see that there
are
um
communication templates in the platform
and we'll link to that so they're all a
series of quick links to other ways to
either quick actions or tools within the
platform and that's your guidance you
can collapse that
based on when you're watching this
recording and when it was recorded there
is going to be an update to the
interface so some of these things will
be a little easier to find but the ideas
and the tools will still be there then
below that you have the job description
if you pasted it manually or you use the
Chrome extension it's going to pull in
the full job description for you
for free forever you get the top five
hard skills in the job description if
you upgrade to teal plus then you get
all the skills which I'll show that at
the end of the video I want to make sure
I cover everything you can do for free
first all right and that's the the main
body of the the detail view of the job
tracker if you needed to archive or
decline the job you can do that right
here with these ellipses and then you
have over here on the right some
features to the tell view if you want to
add notes to the job you can do that you
can now type in whatever notes you want
with the rich text you can add contacts
to a job they'll be in your existing
contacts I believe I'm in here by
default up maybe not anymore
so you can add contacts we have a
checklist this feature is being
deprecated or sunset for the guidance so
if when you watch this video you don't
have this that's why we are going to
eventually add the ability for you to
make your own custom checklists but
that's just not there right now and then
the communication templates you get
different templates per stage and for
free you get one template uh per stage
all right when you upgrade to teal plus
you get over 40 different templates
but that's what you get for free all
right so that is the detail view on the
job tracker so now let's start to
bookmark jobs with the Chrome extension
I'm going to head back over to LinkedIn
and if you had LinkedIn open already
from before and you have reinstalled a
Chrome extension you just have to
refresh the page so I just clicked the
address bar hit enter and now you can
see that the teal job tracker is there
and what you're seeing is this little
one which means you can take an action
uh on your profile you can actually
review your profile page but we're not
going to get into that now so let's go
look for jobs there's multiple views of
jobs on LinkedIn and what you want to go
to is the jobs slash
search all right that's where you can
very quickly look at different jobs you
can make your search queries so I
already have that already over here
built for senior marketing manager let's
go ahead and refresh that and now we can
see we've got the teal duck with the
action that we can take
so let's look at some jobs here and what
I like to do is leave the Chrome
extension up because it gives me a
summary of the job it gives me salary
information if it's in the job
description we do not use the projected
salary information we use it only if we
find it within the job description that
way it's from the company directly so
now as you jump through jobs you can see
that the Chrome extension will update
every once in a while something like
this will happen if the page structure
is ever so slightly different so just
click it and click onto another one
again and then sometimes it'll reset
it's trying to read the page and
occasionally if you're moving really
quickly maybe it didn't get it so that's
just something that's kind of a known
thing we're working on it but now as you
work through these you can see this job
has salary information and I can see
those are skills that align with mine
you know what I'm gonna go ahead and
rate this one a four if you need to take
a note at this point you can but you go
ahead and save the job and what we
encourage you to do is batch your work
so now just go find a bunch of jobs you
like right let's see this one this one
at teeds okay you know what and again it
didn't show up for some reason so I'll
click off
click again and now it's there so I'll
save that a job at Tick Tock I'll go
ahead and save that
this job at Walmart I'll go ahead and
save that and so now we've saved a few
jobs this same exact experience can work
on indeed Glassdoor built in we work
remotely works on over 40 different job
boards so you just want to go to the job
page whether it's in a sort of split
view like this on LinkedIn or it's an
individual job
you can use the Chrome extension it also
works on greenhouse and lever which are
corporate career sites so it knows how
to pick those up as well
all right so now that we've got this job
saved we can go and view bookmarked jobs
so that's just going to take you
straight to the detail view of the job
tracker for that particular job and now
you can see we got the title the company
the location when it was saved the
original link back to it so if you want
to go back to it it's there
now you don't have to save the job
descriptions in the Google Doc if you
lose it if it gets taken offline for
research all those things are there so
you can reference them forever they stay
here until the JD is saved all right
you've got the salary information your
rating you can now rate it if you want
to and you can see it's in the
bookmarked stage by default because
you've bookmarked it maybe you don't
want to take action on it maybe you just
want to save it for later so here you
can see you've got your job description
and again hard skills top five by
default I'll upgrade our account here in
a minute so you can see what it looks
like with teal Plus
so there's your top skills and again you
can add notes add contacts
um
and you've got the communication
templates so what we'll do is we'll move
this job over to applying say okay we
like this job we want to apply to it so
we'll move it over to applying now you
start to get guidance within the job
tracker so look to see if you can get a
referral see if you know anybody at this
company so let's go through that
workflow so you can see so what we do is
we search LinkedIn for you based on the
company and your first connections this
is a sample uh user so it doesn't have
it so let's go ahead and turn our
connections off
so take me anybody not just first degree
um
and here's some folks you know I
personally don't know any of these
people
um but let's see if it says LinkedIn
member
I'm guessing yeah because we're not
connected let's just try
Walmart even though that was Walmart
marketplace which is clearly a
subsidiary
um you know what the CEO public figure
Doug McMillan and let's go ahead and
bookmark it I don't recommend you write
an email directly to the CEO but it's a
good example of uh someone to use
because they're already a public figure
so with the Chrome extension now this is
part of our contacts tracker which we
can make a separate video for but it is
very integrated with the job tracker and
you do want to save contact so I want to
show you how it works so my relationship
could be uh none I don't have one let's
see let's just do other for now my goal
is to try to set up an informational
interview my status is to contact and
let's go ahead and give myself a
reminder for Thursday to do that so I'll
save that contact
all right and I can go view saved
contact and now that contact is in the
contacts tracker
in uh until the broader platform but if
we come back over to the job now
um which is that Walmart position if we
go over to our contacts let's look for
Doug and there it is Doug McMillan so
now I can attach Doug McMillan to this
job and if I go back over to Doug in the
contacts tracker and I look at jobs
related you can see that they've now
been connected we're going to do some
work to make that happen automatically
but for now you have to explicitly
connect them but that's how you can
connect your contacts to jobs and so now
you can go back to that job and you can
see that they're connected right now if
I wanted to ask for an introduction
here's where the communication templates
come into play you can just cop copy the
subject copy the message use the whole
thing then the idea is that you change
it and use it for however you'd like all
right those are the communication
templates and that's pretty much all the
things you can do in the teal job
tracker for free you can see that the
majority of this tool is free you we
really want you to be able to run your
entire job search with it have very few
blockers and be able to run a great job
search and a great pipeline so let me
show you how to go back to the grid view
now so now you're in your details and
you want to go back to your grid view of
all the jobs you've bookmarked and
you're going to have jobs in different
stages maybe this one's applying this
one I've applied to I've already applied
to that one and this one I'm actually in
the interviewing stage so you can see
that your funnel is updating up here and
I can see just the jobs I have currently
applied and I'm waiting to hear back
maybe I'll set a follow-up date for next
week to get reminded if I want to see
what's going on with my interviewing and
then now I did the interview and this
job I got rejected so now that job's off
my job tracker and we often get asked
hey how do I get jobs back where did
they go so first let's on uncheck this
filter or let's check another filter and
then check that off if we go to our menu
we can see archive jobs here's all the
jobs jobs you've either deleted I think
just archived or been rejected or
declined and the language we chose was
decline means I declined rejected they
rejected me and then archived is it you
know for whatever reason you wanted to
change that we're going to fix that
language to make a little clear but that
was our original intention with those
stages now here we can go back from
archive archived jobs
all right again if you want to add a job
manually you can do that highly highly
recommend you use the Chrome extension
uh now if you wanted to delete jobs you
can select them you can delete and say
you sure yes so they've been taken off
your tracker if you wanted to bulk
update status and say all of these I
just applied to so let me do that and
those have been bulk updated or if you
want to select them all you could do
that here as well so there's some things
you can do in the grid view to help you
move a little quicker
all right that's I think a good Roundup
of all the things you can do with teal
for free now let me go ahead and upgrade
this account which I'm just doing over
here on my other screen it'll take me
just a sec and I just gifted myself the
subscription and you can see that the ad
Banner is gone all right so now we are
in teal plus you know one of the main
things you see on the job trackers you
get a little bit more screen space And
now when I go into a job I get all of
the skills I get all the hard skills so
let's go ahead and turn off these skills
so the hard skills are going to be more
like softwares
techniques and you'll see those and you
get all of them if you want to see one
in particular
highlighted you just click it and it
gets a little darker
um you know like straight when you hover
over it you can see how it's changing on
the screen all right so you can uncheck
those
now if you want to see just the soft
skills you can focus on that other are
ones that are not necessarily
categorized in our system so we're
working to fix that and then emphasis
words
are words that we've identified as kind
of linguistic emphasis a company is
saying like you are responsible for need
to have a knowledgeable in right so
successful proven excellent that's where
a company is using language to tell you
hey this is pretty important so you can
kind of take your eye there and so what
I like to do is turn on emphasis words
and hard skills and see which ones of
those are sort of side by side so okay
organizational structure is important
um you know proven in product
development and strategy Market insights
those are things I'm going to want to
make sure I highlight in my resume
all right so that is one of the things
you get with deal Plus on the job
tracker specifically and then when we
come over to our communication templates
you can see that now per stage you're
going to have a bunch and you can scroll
down and I think it's over 40 of them
that you get with teal plus when you're
in your various stages you can see that
when you click here
you've now got the communication
templates very quickly accessible
all right now that is really everything
you can do with the teal job tracker use
the chapters in this video to jump
around we wanted to make one video that
kind of covered everything in one place
you could sit and watch it it's a bit
long but again use the chapters jump
around but it really should cover most
things if you have any questions on
something I didn't cover or something
you're curious that the tool might do
please drop it in the comments uh hit us
up at membersupport tlhq.com and we'll
do our best to get back to you all right
thanks for using teal and best of luck
on your job search
