- What if I told you, you would just four words away
from defining your brand and boosting your business?
It's not a dream or an expensive hack,
it's the power of a great slogan.
In this video, no matter what's in your wallet,
with me, you're in good hands.
I'm gonna walk you through a simple four step process
you can use to build your own slogan.
If you're on the fence about watching this video,
I have three words for you, just do it.
Let's dig in.
Step one, define your brand's core message and USP.
What does your business stand for?
What drives it?
What makes you unique?
These are the questions that your core message will answer.
Whether it's to empower athletes
or to help consumers find their plant power,
your core message is the place where you'll start
to mold your slogan.
If you're stuck
or uncertain about what your core message is,
start by taking a good hard look at your mission statement
and break it down into three to five keywords.
For example, let's take a look at
this beautiful mission statement for my new hat business.
At Tory's Hats, we believe that style shouldn't be a luxury,
it should be accessible to everyone.
Our mission is to provide high quality, fashionable hats
that don't break the bank, empowering our customers
to express their unique style every day.
Based on that statement,
I then break it down into a few keywords.
I'll go with stylish, affordable, and comfortable.
Now we wanna make sure our slogan
will eventually be functional
by highlighting our unique selling proposition.
A USP is the quality
that makes your product special compared to others,
it's your unique edge.
Think of FedEx's, the world on time.
It's not just a slogan,
it tells you exactly what unique aspect you can expect
from the brand, which is timely, worldwide deliveries.
According to my mission, my USP would be,
Tory's Hats are all about fashion
that doesn't break the bank.
With all of that information together,
we arrive at my business's core message,
affordable style for your every day.
We're making progress here,
but if you're feeling stuck or want even more insights,

Step two, keep it short, keep it simple.
Whether it's, just do it, or, think different,
the best advertising slogans are the ones
that truly describe what a brand or a company stands for
in the shortest catch phrase possible.
Keeping your slogan short and sweet is the key.
Aim for something clear and to the point.
Ideally between three to six words.
No need to get fancy with it.
So if I apply this to my core message,
it'll change from, affordable style for your every day,
to the slogan, affordable fashion every day.
Ooh, we're chopping it up. I know you like that, don't you?
It's also very important to say your slogan out loud
to see how it sounds.
Affordable fashion, every day.
Affordable fashion, every day.
Ask a friend to say it a few times.
Does it roll off your tongue?
If not, what syllables or words are causing the friction?
Take them out.
If you don't have access to folks
who just want to sit around and repeat your slogan to you
on command all day,
you can also just use your phone's text-to-speech feature
to see how your slogan sounds when it's read.
Just write your slogan options into your notes,
highlight them, and then click speak.
- [Electronic Voice] Affordable fashion, every day.
- I know it may feel weird
but taking this into consideration increases the likelihood
that people will say it themselves,
helping you and your business with word-of-mouth marketing.
Because high quality, affordable stylish hats
for everyone to express their unique style daily,
just doesn't roll off the tongue, you know?
Affordable fashion, every day, that does.
But now it's time for us to get emotional.
Having a short and sweet slogan is important
but to continue helping your slogan really stick,
you'll need emotional appeal
because people don't just buy products,
they buy experiences, identities, and feelings.
What do I mean?
Okay. Take a look at this site.
Disneyland doesn't tell you what they do,
they tell you how you'll feel with,
the happiest place on earth.
Your slogan should aim to inspire an emotional response
that aligns with your brand values
and the benefits of your product.
Affordable fashion, every day, not only communicates
that my product is budget friendly and accessible,
but the word every day
also brings up feelings of reliability and daily luxury,
we're a lifestyle.
It tells my customers that high quality
and style don't have to be occasional indulgences.
They can be a regular part of your life.
Whoa. Whoa, whoa.
That's a bar.
I may need to actually bring this thing to life
but that's another video.
Just like you tested the sound qualities of your slogan,
you should also test its emotional impact.
Ask friends, family, or focus groups
how the slogan makes them feel.
Use their feedback to refine it.
By doing this step,
you're even closer to tackling what comes next.
Step number four, make it memorable.
Right now our slogan is concise, functional, and emotional.
But if you can't walk away from your proposed slogan
for an hour and remember it without looking,
then you didn't really make it memorable.
This is where rhyming, alliteration and wordplay
can be added to craft a slogan
that's not only memorable but also catchy.
You can use a tool like RhymeZone to help you out here.
It's a site that'll help you find words that rhyme.
Let's put in affordable.
Here we can see a few options based on syllable count.
Rewardable would be a great fit
if we had a rewards program to highlight
but since we don't, let's find some options
for fashion instead.
Looking at these options,
we may be able to do something with cash in.
By combining these terms,
our slogan can morph into a memorable line.
Everyday fashion, less cash in.
But the transformation doesn't stop there.
To boost its memorability even more,
we can turn it into a short jingle.
Yeah, I said jingle.
Let's make some magic.
Jingle Maker is a tool that you can use
to automate this process
if you feel a little intimidated right now.
Even if you don't like the final result,
it serves as a great inspiration.
The concept is very simple.
Select an intro, put in text to generate your AI voiceover,
select a background sound, select an outro
and then generate jingle to hear your masterpiece.
- [Electronic Voice] Tory's Hats,
everyday fashion for less cash in.
- Feel free to experiment with the process here.
Play around with different rhyming words, melodies
and pacing until you hit that sweet spot.
By the end of this step, you won't just have a slogan,
you'll have an infectious reminder
that will keep your brand top of mind.
Pro tip, use your brand name sparingly.
While plastering the name of your brand all over your slogan
is great for visibility,
it can be kind of a double-edged sword.
On one hand,
it's a great way to get your name stuck in people's heads,
especially if you're a brand new business.
But believe it or not,
slogans without a brand name
usually come across as more genuine
and tend to be better liked.
Now that you have a great slogan,
it's time to check out what mistakes you should avoid
when you do this process on your own.
First up, don't be generic.
Remember, your slogan should be a snapshot
of what makes your brand unique.
If your slogan can easily apply to any other business
in your industry, you've missed the mark.
Imagine you're deciding which pizza place to try
and all have the same slogan of, best pizza in the city.
None of those slogans actually help you make a choice
as to what you want to eat for lunch.
Get me?
Get to the heart of what makes your product
or service special.
Don't use insider language.
Using language that only industry insiders will understand
is a big no-no.
Choose words that resonate
with the people you're trying to reach.
Your slogan should be accessible and understandable
to your target audience.
Lastly, it's not all about you.
Your slogan isn't just a reflection of your business,
it's also a message aimed at your potential customers.
Make sure it focuses on the customer's needs,
how you solve their problems,
or how you make their lives better.
Avoiding these common mistakes
will set your slogan up to be way more relatable
and appealing.
You now have all the tools you'll need
to go make your brand pop in a crowded marketplace.
Now it's your turn to put these steps into action
and make a slogan that speaks to your audience
and helps your brand shine.
