Transcripts
some games feel like they should be Game
of the Year with exceptional gameplay
story or visuals that set them apart
while the actual winners often deserve
the title it's disappointing when a game
you love misses out I am counting down
the top 10 games that should have won
game of the year but didn't let's jump
in the souls Series has always been a
prime example of how a franchise can
maintain its quality even after multiple
entries by staying true to your vision
instead of chasing random market trends
While most of them are tonally similar
to each other bloodborne is an amazing
exception as it takes place in a world
that resembles a mixture of Gothic and
Victorian Aesthetics this unique
atmosphere is supported by great level
design amazing gameplay and boss fights
that are memorable enough to get
imprinted in your memory even those who
don't usually enjoy Souls like gameplay
find bloodborne really fun bloodborne is
widely regarded as a masterpiece making
its loss of the Game of the Year award
even more more tragic the award went to
The Witcher 3 a game equally deserving
of the honor this just highlights the
unfortunate reality that only one game
can win even when two are equally
worthy Uncharted 4 was highly
anticipated serving as the conclusion to
one of the best action adventure
franchises of recent times with Tomb
Raider no longer holding the same
influence despite a solid reboot
Uncharted 4 had even more eyes on it
making its release a major event for
fans of the genre when Uncharted 4
finally released it exceeded all
expectations fully harnessing the power
of the PlayStation 4 to deliver a bigger
and better experience the story was
deeply personal the gameplay remained
cinematic without feeling automated and
the visuals were spectacular showcasing
the potential of the new generation I
remember being blown away by how massive
it felt especially coming from the PS3
which struggled to run realistic
Graphics Uncharted 4 received high
scores and widespread praise making it a
strong Contender for the game of the
year award however OverWatch with its
high production unexpectedly claimed the
title at the time the hero shooter genre
wasn't oversaturated which likely
contributed to its win in hindsight this
outcome seems questionable especially
since OverWatch 2 is now widely regarded
as a piece of garbage game by much of
the Gaming Community looking back many
would agree that Uncharted Ford deserved
the honor instead it's sure thing
hey really lots of lifting and crawling
under things
huh the Glamorous Life of a treasure
hunter death stranding was a divisive
game due to its unique gameplay and
concept plus as with most hideio Kojima
games the story was was very confusing
too unless you pay attention and begin
to connect the dots however those who
did like the game realized how beautiful
it is the graphics are great and the
game does a great job at recreating
Hollywood actors in the digital world as
we have great talent such as Norman Reus
and Leo sadu the open world of the game
is very fun to explore and it's filled
with different kinds of quests resources
threats and Terrain in every corner the
more you explore the more you discover
the gameplay gets criticized for having
too much walking but that's just a part
of the experience it's about exploring
and you do unlock Vehicles as you go
managing your inventory and packages is
addicting and there's a bit of action to
be found too when the story calls for it
it's a very entertaining game that keeps
you busy for close to 40 hours and even
more so if you wish to see all of it and
for those who love the game which
includes me we believe that it should
have won game of the year sadly it did
not because SEO was also released in the
same year and it did deserve the award
too since it's a phenomenal game
[Music]
Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most
detailed and meticulously crafted video
games in recent years it looks
phenomenal still rivaling current gen
titles despite its age the open world is
diverse and teeming with life the story
feels like reading a richly written
novel and the gameplay is incredibly
engaging the game offers nearly 100
hours of content if you complete the
main story and some side quests but it
can stretch even further if you dive
into activities like Hunting Fishing
cooking gambling and more the level of
detail is astonishing from the food on a
character's plate to the way your
character feels warmer or colder based
on their clothing and the environment
when a game is crafted with such passion
and attention to detail it's no surprise
that fans hoped it would win game of the
year unfortunately for Red Dead
Redemption 2 it was released in a year
packed with great titles and God of Wars
reboot ultimately took the crown God of
War was deserving of the praise with its
stunning visuals engaging gameplay and
beautiful story but it's still striking
that something as extraordinary as rdr2
was
[Music]
overshadowed you d
[Music]
the of
[Music]
the let's get
him ghost of tsushima is a great example
of how you can do a great action
adventure video game with an open world
without making it repetitive or Bland
some people had their doubts when it was
initially announced because of the
burnout caused by Assassin's Creed
series which falls under the same genre
in terms of gameplay however when when
people got to play the game they
realized just how amazing it is the game
play is very fun and offers a lot of
variety as it's up to the player whether
they wish to fight honorably or
stealthily then we have the open world
which is filled with detail side
missions and side activities that keep
you busy and help you feel immersed
further in the world the story is
beautiful and tragic which reminds you
of classic samurai Japanese movies The
Game's portrayal of feudal Japan was so
accurate that the developers received
official thanks from the country for
their respectful attention to cultural
details with all of this in place it
seemed like it would win game of the
year it truly deserved the recognition
but unfortunately it lost to the last of
us to which in my opinion is absurd
while I don't dislike The Last of Us two
as much as some do it's undeniably
flawed with poor pacing and overly edgy
writing that fails to match the original
ghost of tsushima with its more focused
narrative and design should have taken
the crown in
2020 old bandages not much blood
minor
wounds lots of Ashes campfire has been
used many
times God of War Ragnarok is the sequel
to one of the most acclaimed games ever
so expectations were very high to No
Surprise Ragnarok managed to live up to
most of them and even EX eded them in
some cases as the game play had far more
variety in terms of combat this time
around and being able to explore more of
the universe was a welcome addition the
game did suffer in a few departments
such as the last fight not being what
some hoped for and the overall pacing
being less tight than its predecessor
but none of that stopped it from being
one of the best games in recent times it
feels so Majestic and massive due to how
beautifully it is designed it has the
scale that you always expect from a god
of war game however 2022 had another
phenomenal game that deserved to win as
well and that was Elden ring I honestly
can't complain about this as it's a very
fair pick but I just wish Ragnarok was
released in a different year so that it
could have gotten the title that it also
deserves
fck while DC had their successful
superhero video game franchise thanks to
the Arkham series Marvel was lagging far
behind other than the occasional Hit or
Miss adaptation of their movies and
Comics it was only a matter of time
before Marvel also figured out that the
best way to approach this is to just
make something original and eventually
we got the 2018 Spider-Man game game
this game managed to outdo even the best
Spider-Man games that we had before and
gave us a near accurate New York City to
swing into the story was great combined
with some very good acting performances
the gameplay is extremely fun and it's
really addicting to combine your fists
with tech-based gadgets that come from
the genius mind of Peter Parker and the
pacing of the game really immerses you
into the struggle of maintaining the
lives of Peter and Spider-Man
simultaneously it was the perfect
Spider-Man Adventure that everyone was
waiting for and other than a few hiccups
it set a new bar for superhero games
going forward but similar to Red Dead
Redemption 2 the game Lost to God of War
instead this really makes you realize
how insanely packed 2018 was since so
many games deserved the game of the year
spot and you can't disagree with God of
War getting it
either 1079 reports of mass terrorists
arming a bomb officers needed in
Portside
over after many years Doom was finally
rebooted in 2016 and it immediately took
the World by storm not only did it serve
as a phenomenal follow-up to the
original games retaining all the best
aspects of its gameplay presentation and
soundtrack but it also stood out as a
fantastic shooter in its own right
thanks to its sheer fun and intensity
whether you play the story with Focus or
just want to destroy hordes of demons
while listening to heavy metal Doom is
everything that you'd want it to be and
more and it really deserved to win game
of the year award shockingly Doom lost
to OverWatch just like Uncharted 4 did
which is absolutely absurd the idea that
an unbalanced trash game like OverWatch
could win against both Uncharted 4 and
doom is mindboggling
yikes demon Presence at unsafe level
lock down in
it's not very often that you see a
survival horror game as a contender for
the game of the year award because let's
be honest they are mostly hit and miss
while we have some consistent franchises
like Resident Evil a lot of them are
simply low effort projects that try to
go for cheap scares and some of them are
better than that but they still fail to
make a balance between action and horror
but sometimes we do get something
special and alien isolation is one of
those rare times based on the
Blockbuster movie franchise the game is
very faithful to the source material and
features an original story instead of a
direct adaptation it does a great job at
capturing the atmosphere and feel of the
movies which means that it's scary
confining claustrophobic and very
intense the game's Graphics are
impressive with beautifully crafted
environments that enhance the overall
experience smaller details like the
lighting do an excellent job of building
atmosphere the game is highly
challenging requiring players to focus
on stealth to survive given how
threatening the aliens are both in their
visual design and their ability to harm
the player this creates a deep sense of
immersion and vulnerability setting the
perfect stage for a truly terrifying
horror experience the sound design plays
a crucial role making you feel like
you're truly there when the game's
intelligent AI decides to hunt you down
it's a fantastic game though its slower
pacing can be divisive for some
personally I find it excellent despite a
few minor hiccups along the way it lost
to Dragon Age Inquisition which is a bit
of a mixed feeling for me I definitely
understand the appeal of Inquisition and
don't think its win was undeserved
however I wish alien had taken the crown
because while great RPGs are plentiful
every year truly exceptional survival
horror games are much rarer
[Music]
Allan Wake 2 not only met the high
expectations set by its predecessor it
exceeded them in every way the
photorealistic graphics mindbending
story engaging gameplay and top tier
presentation all under the direction of
Sam Lake made it a standout title
despite being a terrifying game it knows
when to lighten up and nearly break the
fourth wall adding layers to its
immersive experience it's challenging to
discuss the game without giving away
spoilers but it truly blew everyone's
mind with its excellence in every
Department as I mentioned earlier such
high production value in the horror
genre is rare making Alan Wake 2 even
more remarkable however I feel a bit
conflicted discussing this because Allen
wake 2 lost to balers Gate 3 a game I
deeply respect and believe fully
deserved its win yet I can't help but
wish Allan Wake 2 had been released in a
different year as it undoubtedly
deserved a game of the year award as
well Alice's photo equipment set to go
off when the door opens
and that's it for today's list of the
top 10 games that missed out on a game
of the year award but should have won
these games hold just as much importance
to me as if they had the game of the
year title but it's still a bit
disappointing when something doesn't get
the recognition it deserves as always
let me know in the comments if you think
I missed a game that belongs on this
list and I'll see you in the next video
