Pondicherry, over the years, has become quite popular
And you should definitely visit for its beaches, cafes architecture and the churches
Other than this, you could also visit Auroville when visiting Pondicherry
So, first and foremost, the beaches of Pondicherry
You should definitely cover these four beaches
Number one, Rock Beach
Also known as Promenade Beach or Pondy Beach
This is the main beach of Pondicherry, with rocks along the coastline
Which give you a little feel of the Marine Drive in Mumbai
Along with this beach is a walking plaza by the name Goubert Avenue
Where people love to take their morning and evening walks and jogs
You can also check out the Gandhi Statue and French War memorial on this beach
Number two, Pondy Marina Beach
This Beach is about 6-7km from the city centre
And you will find a rocky coastline here
They have also built an entire plaza in front of the beach
That offers a lot of eating joints and a few arcade games
Also, a little further from the plaza, there are no proper roads
But, you can check out the fishing harbour
Third, is Paradise Beach
Which is about 12km from the city centre
You can reach here either by road
Or take a ferry from the Chunnambur Boat House

However, we still recommend you to visit Paradise Beach on your trip to Pondicherry
The fourth and the final beach of Pondicherry is the Eden Beach
This beach is about 9km from the city centre
And it is the only beach in Pondicherry which has a Blue Flag status
To put that in perspective
Out of thousands of beaches in India
Only ten of them have been awarded this blue flag status
The route to this beach is also quite beautiful
And we recommend that you watch the sunrise from here
And out of these four beaches, Eden Beach was Saransh's favourite
If you haven't watched the videos and posts from Saransh's Pondicherry trip
Then follow us on Instagram, the link is in the description
If you have more time, you can check out the Serenity Beach
Which is an equally beautiful beach in Pondy
And you can also try surf-boarding at this beach
Other than this, you can go to Karaikal beach for watersport activities
Especially for scuba diving
Temple Adventures conduct scuba diving lessons on this beach
And they are a 5 star PADI certified scuba center
You can contact them on this number
And once you have visited Pondy
Do mention in the comments, which beach is your favourite
The second that's popular in Pondicherry is the endless cafes it offers
So, let's get to where you should eat in Pondicherry
Each of these cafes has a whole unique vibe to them
But the best part is
Some of these cafes and restaurants used to be old homes
Which have now been turned into restaurants
In Saransh's visit to Pondicherry
He visited almost all of these cafes
And here are the top five picks that he recommends to you
Number one, Cafe Des Arts
It is undoubtedly one of the best cafes in Pondicherry
And you should definitely try their Croque Monsieur
Other than this, the paintings outside the cafe
Offer you a good background for clicking photos
Number two, Coromandel Cafe
This is an equally amazing cafe
That offers a whole different level of ambience
And the dessert here was really delicious
Number three is Pondy cafe or PY Cafe
This is relatively a small cafe but offers really great food
You can also play board games here while eating your food
Number four is the Rendezvous Cafe which is a rooftop restaurant
The ambience here is really good, and I recommend that you go for dinner
Last but not least is Le Cafe
This is a beautiful cafe built on Rock Beach
So, if you are sitting on the first floor here
You will get a beautiful view of the sea
The food here was really great, and do try their Cafe Au Lait
The third reason to love Pondicherry is its architecture
Be it the homely interior of the cafes
The tree-laden streets or the French touch in all the buildings
Overall, Pondicherry has a really beautiful vibe
You have already seen the glimpses of architecture in the section up until now
And I am going to show you even more in the upcoming sections
Do make sure to comment on how intriguing and beautiful the architecture of Pondicherry really is
So, let me cover the Rest of Pondicherry in the fourth section of this video
I am going to give you a quick overview of a couple of churches
And other things to do in Pondicherry
So, starting with the churches
We recommend visiting three of the churches
And the first one is Notre Dame Des Anges
It is quite beautiful from the inside and outside as well
And it probably is one of the most beautiful churches in Pondicherry
Another church is Immaculate Conception Cathedral
Looking at it from the front surely gives you a royal feeling
The last church is the Basilica of Sacred Heart
It contains rare stained glass depicting events from Life of Christ
And I think this church may be the biggest of the three
In general, all the three churches have a beautiful and grand architecture
If time permits, you should definitely visit all the three churches
Other than churches, you could visit Aurobindo Ashram
For a peaceful morning
Here, some people spend time in silence and refecting inwards
You could also visit Cluny Embroidery Center
They do handmade embroidery here, which is quite good
Pondicherry Museum has detailed the history of Pondicherry quite well
And if time permits, you should definitely visit the museum
You can also visit Pondicherry Botanical Garden
It is not one of the most well-maintained parks out there
But if you have some time to spare, you can give it a visit
The entry fee is just ₹20
And the last part is visiting Auroville
Auroville is not situated in Pondicherry
But it should definitely be on your list of places to visit when coming to Pondicherry
Auroville is an experimental township based on the ideal of human unity
As envisioned by Sri Aurobindo
You can divide Auroville into two parts
One would be the tourist centre
And other is the actual town where residents live and reside
Post-Covid you can visit the tourist centre part of Auroville
Where you find cultural pavillions selling products made in Auroville
And you can also visit the part where Maitrimandir is situated
Also, a little away from the main town, you can try Pizza at Tanto's
And you can also visit the Auroville Beach
Do note that this is really the extent of all the things you can do in Auroville
That is if you are visiting only for a few hours
If you book a stay in Auroville
Then you can enter the Auroville main town
And enjoy the following experiences and activities
So, if you want to enjoy art
Then you can visit Kala Kendra and Adishakti Theatre
If you want good food
Then you can go to Auroville Bakery and Naturellement Cafe
If you want to connect and network with people
Then you can go to the Youth Center
Or you can just hang out at Marc's Cafe
Other than that Auroville is also known for its
Arka Healing Center and Quiet Healing Center
Both these centres offer services like the ayurvedic massage and health spa
And even after all this, if you still have time on your hands
Then you can visit the Ousteri Lake
Sri Gokilambal Thirukameshwar Temple
Saram China Market and Roman Ruins in Arikamendu
Now, coming to where to stay in Pondicherry
In this section, right from high end stays to budget stays
I am going to give you all the options
In high-end options, if you want a beach facing hotel
Then you can check out the Promenade Hotel
And if beach facing is not really a requirement
Then you can check out Accord Puducherry
When it comes to mid-range options
You can try Arkida Hotel and Resorts
Or you can check out Annamalai International Hotel
And in budget stays
You can check out Devis Grand and Ravi Krishna Inn
How to move around in Pondicherry?
Pondicherry is relatively a small place
However, for the best experience
I recommend that you have your own vehicle or rent one
Best is if you rent a bicycle or a scooty
When it comes to Pondicherry, you can rent scooters like Activa or Access for ₹300 per day
And scooters like Vespa can be rented for ₹400
You can contact the rental shop on the below number
When Saransh visited Pondicherry, he rented it from them
And the condition of the scooters was really good
If you want to rent a bicycle then there are a lot of shops on the mission street
And the bicycle rent starts at about ₹100 per day
Please note that you will need a government-approved identity card
To issue any of these rented vehicles
Other than this, you could also get autorickshaws all across Pondicherry
However, do note that they tend to charge a little extra
Because of it being a tourist place
And now the last section of this video is some helpful tips
To remember when in Pondicherry
So, the best time to visit Pondicherry is from the months of October to February
When the temperature is bearable
March through June is really hot with temperatures crossing almost 40℃
If you are planning to go in monsoons
Do note that Pondicherry does receive some decent rainfall
Please make sure that you are carrying sunglasses and sunscreen at all the times
Irrespective of which season you go in
Because the sun is always harsh in Pondy
Also, pro-tip, do wake up early for sunrises
Since you are on the eastern coast of India
You can see the sunrise from all the beaches of Pondicherry
This can be a really mesmerising view to enjoy
Do note that the Chunnambur Boat Houses closes by 5pm
So, make sure to catch the last ferry from Paradise Beach that departs at 4:30pm
Post-Covid, they aren't allowing anyone inside Maitrimandir
However, in future, if it opens up
Do make sure to book your pass well in advance
Also, do make sure that you are travelling responsibly
Keep your plastic consumption to a minimum and don't litter anywhere
