Transcripts
XPP has proposed that we take our graphics tablet out
into the street, turning it into an Android tablet.
Well, let's do it.
But before continuing, I have to thank XPP for sponsoring this video, that Will not
change my opinion at all and I Will tell you both the pros and cons of this tablet,
but thank you very much to XPP for continuing to support this channel.
If they are some cracks.
No, but seriously, you all know that I am
going to say both what I liked and what I did not like.
Now let's start with the video.
First let's talk about the design.
It is completely built in plastic, aluminum and glass, although the truth is that for a
long time I have been thinking that it was
completely built in aluminum, because the plastic
feels very good quality and does not give at all the feeling of being a cheap tablet.
It is large, 12.2 inches and 2/3 format, more
or less the same size as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro , only this one is a little narrower.
And despite being large, it is quite light and portable.
The 2/3 format is a good format for tablets, it is between the 4/3 of the iPads
and the 16/10 of the rest of Android tablets,
so it is very comfortable to work, read or
take notes, but the screen is also greatly used when watching videos.
But I think the most important point of its
design is its matte anti-reflective screen, which
being textured gives the feeling of being using a foil more than a tablet screen.
Its screen looks great.
It is a 60Hz IPS panel and although it is not
the screen with the best colors I have seen
or the one with the highest resolution, it has the
right of both points and a brightness that together
with its anti-reflective panel makes it very pleasant
to use even outdoors or places with a lot of light.
In addition, I have done the color reproduction
tests that I usually do with my Spider X Elite and these are the results.
And while it is a screen that you can trust, it
is not the most accurate in color reproduction
or the one that reproduces the greatest range of colors,
so it is a bit far from tablets with better screens.
And although it would have been good if it
covered more color space, I think this screen
does very well for the price of the tablet
and that its main attraction is how big it is and how good its texture is.
Which not only removes the reflections, it also
makes the experience when touching the screen and drawing with it much better.
And believe me, it is much better than any
matte screen protector that exists and without
worsening the quality of the screen, which is what
all such protectors do to a greater or lesser extent .
I know very well because I have tried a few.
So I think that although it is not the best screen
I have seen, it does meet the Mark at this point.
XPPEN is a brand that, in case you had not noticed it already, I like it a lot.
Because compared to the decisions of other manufacturers
to remove accessories and make you buy them
at an exaggerated price apart, they still include everything.
It brings its Charger and its cable, pencil,
spare tips and its already classic drawing glove.
And not only that, it comes with a very good
case included so that it is protected from the first moment.
And it is not one of those typical cheap cases, it is of very good quality.
And of course, it also comes with this pencil,
which although it may seem new, I already know it
very well, because it is the pencil with which I
have been working for more than half a year, but in a new format.
And yes, this tablet is compatible with the
XPPEN X3 Pro pencil, that is, it has one of
the best professional pencils of the moment.
But it is that the tablets that are compatible
with the X3 Pro pencil are also compatible
with this pencil, so if you like fine pencils, now you have an option.
The screen texture, although it is not exactly
the same as that of the Artis Pro Gen 2, is just as good.
The pencil is very solid and feels of good quality.
It has a button and it has hardly any lag or parallax.
And I have to point out that the palm rejection
works great on this tablet, I have not had any accidental touch using it.
In addition, the pencil has the same diameter
as the Apple Pencil 2, so it is compatible with its grips.
Of course, this pencil is not possible to hook it magnetically in any way, but this
is for a good reason, and it uses EMR technology, so you never need to charge it.
It is always ready to draw.
But in short, it uses magnets to work, so the magnets
interfere with the correct operation of the pencil.
But yes, its official cover grabs and protects the pencil and
tablet better than any magnet or magnetic cover that exists.
Apart from bringing the pencil, it comes
with a few spare tips, both plastic and felt,
which together with the textured screen give the best
drawing experience I have ever tried on a tablet.
Yes, better than the iPad Pro or the Tab S9
Ultra, and this costing a third of its price.
Although, obviously, this is the only point where you surpass tablets, because both
in design, power and cameras, it has nothing to do.
Of the speakers, I have to say that I was very surprised by how loud they sound.
They are not the ones that sound best that
I have heard, but they sound pretty good for the price of the tablet.
But of course, this tablet has not come to
compete in those points, but to give the best
drawing experience at the lowest possible price.
And about the pencil, I have a good point to say and a not so good one.
The not so good one is that this tablet does
not detect the inclination, but to test how
important that feature is for most of you, I did a survey in which
700 people participated and the result surprised me a lot.
Because for 86% of the drawers, it is a feature that we do not care too much about.
And I already knew from before that it is a function
that many people do not use or that they do not even
know that it exists, but I did not expect,
not by far, that we were so few who use this.
So, well, it seems that it is not a too important deficiency.
But of course, I have to point out that if you
use that function a lot to work, this is not your tablet.
I am going to add this function to the following
because it is the only thing that is missing to have a perfect drawing experience.
And let's see, although it is something that
I have sincerely missed using it, I have
gotten used to using a tablet without this feature very quickly.
Come on, it's not a drama.
I actually only use it to control the angle of some brushes
and I have been able to replace them very easily by others.
In addition, it is honestly compensated with growths
with the good point, and it is the good control
that it gives of the stroke and the pressure.
This pencil has 16,000 levels of pressure, which
by itself does not tell us anything really,
but what is true is that it detects a huge real pressure range.
And it is that just by dropping the pencil with its
own weight on the screen, you are already
drawing, but it also detects very High pressures.
This added to the good curve of the pressure
it has, gives you practically perfect control of the stroke.
And its screen, along with the stroke control
that its tips give, makes it just as good as its more premium graphics tablets.
And it is also compatible with its Pro Pencil,
which works just as well but is more ergonomic to be working many hours with it.
Although at this moment you can only use one
of its buttons and neither the eraser nor the other button work with the tablet.
Although really what interests me most about
this pencil is ergonomics and not so much those
other functions, but to tell the truth it would
be good to be able to use them in the future.
In short, this tablet in drawing experience is without exaggerating at the level of the
most professional graphics tablets such as the Artist Pro or the new Cintiq Pro.
But unlike the graphics tablets that are connected to a computer that can be
as powerful as you want, much of the experience
of use and drawing of this MagicPad Will depend on its power.
It comes with a very clean Android 12, 8GB of RAM, 256 of storage and expandable
via SD card, thanks to XP-Pen for not charging us the storage at a price of gold.
And it mounts a MediaTek Companion 800TU-8771
chip, whatever you prefer to call it, which is a
mid-range processor that in the benchmarks gives fair results compared to
the beasts that mount the highest-end devices.
More or less, it is just as powerful as the
latest Tab S6 Lite, although in everything else this is much better.
And the truth is that I was a little bit of a repair this point because I am used to
using very powerful equipment, but that happened to me in the first hour of use.
Simply the tablet flies, the system moves very fluidly and all the apps work
practically as well as my OnePlus Pad or the Tab S8 Ultra.
Speaking of apps, in case someone has not yet found out,
Android has a lot of professional applications for creatives.
And if you want to know more about this, I have
other videos on the channel in which I talk about this topic.
I usually work with Krita and Infinite Painter, and
the Magic Pad moves my larger projects perfectly.
In this case, I have not noticed any difference
in real use with the Tab S8 Ultra or the OnePlus Pad.
Studio Paint clip works great too.
Maybe it does not give the same performance as a High-end chip, but it can be worked
perfectly and it is not slow or anything like that.
And even NoMad Sculpt, which I thought would
be a pain in the ass, works perfectly for me.
And although the processor is not very powerful,
it moves very well simple projects like this Bulbasaur that I made a while ago.
It also has a desktop mode to use it with mouse and
keyboard, so you can use it also as if it were a laptop.
And in summary, Android is more than prepared
for tattoo artists, illustrators, photographers,
designers, architects and all kinds of creatives to use
tablets like these to work without the need for a computer.
And as I have been saying for a while now and these tests confirm, you do not need to
buy the most powerful tablet for this type of task.
And it is that buying an iPad Pro to make tattoo
designs or illustrations, however elaborate
they are, is like buying a computer of 5,000 Euros to get you to use the Paint.
You can do it and it Will work perfectly, but maybe you are spending too much money.
And also, when you are at home you can connect
it to your PC through SuperDisplay, which if
you are interested, here is a video that I have dedicated entirely to that app.
And when you connect it to the computer it
feels like any other High-end graphics tablet
and it also has a very good screen size,
because although it is 12.2 inches, as I
have said many times, the format also counts.
And this 2/3 format, being much more square than the 16/9, gives you more screen space
than for example the Wacom One, which by the
way, I say from now on, that having come out
this tablet, it does not make any sense to buy that graphic tablet.
This is 200 Euros cheaper, has a better screen
and you can also use it without connecting it to the computer.
In case someone asks, I see no doubt in that decision.
And it is that if you want a graphic tablet
of 500 Euros with touch, I think I would buy this.
Although yes, I would like XPP for future tablets to allow you to connect it to the
computer without the need for third-party
apps through USB-C so that the experience is
as good as possible, even if it is already great with Super Display.
If they do that and add the tilt control, it
would be their best product without any doubt.
And that, which already seems to me right now that it can be perfectly.
And although this tablet is not designed to play, it can be done perfectly.
Do not expect the performance of a High-end tablet, but the experience is good.
It has been able to move all the games that I have tested
perfectly, yes, with the graphics in low or medium.
Although to play, soon I Will show you another tablet that I think you Will love.
But the last great point of this tablet is its battery.
And although it is only 8000 mAh, it seems that it Will never run out.
It has given me 11 hours of screen and not precisely
watching a video or Reading, it has been using it
with demanding programs as it can be called.
And it is the tablet that lasts the longest on the
battery of which I have tested with difference.
Of course, on the other hand, its charge is 18
watts and it takes 2 hours to charge from 0 to 100%,
which is not bad, but compared to many others it is quite slow.
And let's see, in other tablets this would be a
problem, because if you use it for a while and it is
discharged and you have to be charging it twice a day, well, it does not cool a hair.
But it is that with the battery life so good that it has, simply leave it charging
at night and you Will have battery to draw at
full capacity with it throughout the next day.
And I prefer that it has that battery life so
good and that it takes a long time to charge
that it takes very little to charge but the battery does not last at all.
Yes, the ideal thing would be to have both,
but in my daily use I have not had any problem with the battery charging slowly.
It also has a perfect size to take it anywhere and work very comfortably.
These weeks that I have had it, it has taken
me every time I have gone out and it has not
become troublesome to use at any time, not even in the subway or in the bus.
It seems that the difference is not much with
a Tab S8 Ultra but it is quite noticeable when you take it out of the house.
Well, now to tell you a little about my
drawing experience with this MagicPad, I know
that I have to tell you that I have waited
until the last moment and I am recording this the night before publishing the video.
And I have been testing it for about two
weeks and I have to say that I have loved it.
I am not exaggerating if I say that it has been the
tablet with which I have been most comfortable drawing
and it is literally like taking the Artis Pro
16 Gen 2 that I have on my desk and taking it
out anywhere, except for the detail that it
does not detect the inclination, but the truth
is that I have gotten used to that point very quickly.
And also the other point that I was a little
afraid of was the issue of power, but I have made
this 5,000x4,000 pixel illustration completely
written on this tablet, which has more than
72 layers and a lot of adjustment layers,
and I have been able to work on it perfectly.
And you don't have to work on such a large
file to have good quality, but I have done it
this way to force the tablet to the maximum and
I have to say that I have done it perfectly.
The only point where it simply takes a little
longer because it is not complicated at all
of that is to apply filters to very large layers.
Of course, in this illustration I have used many layers of filters, some above
others, so it is normal that it is complicated.
It is also complicated for my desktop computer,
which costs more than 4 times what this tablet
costs, and even so, sometimes it happens a bit to the canoes moving these files.
What I am going for is that it has enough power to
do absolutely any work that I want to do with it.
The only point that I have missed a bit has been
a greater color reproduction on this screen.
And it is that, let's see, the screen is quite good, but I am used to working with
screens that cover a lot of color, practically
100% of the Adobe RGB and also of the DCI-P3,
and let's see, this screen, although it is good, it
is not as good as those of the higher-end tablets.
But for the price it has, I think it is something very understandable.
And well, one point is that I loved the detail
of the case with which the XPP Magic Pad comes
, but I have missed a cover for this case, basically because the screen
is very good to be putting a screen protector on it, but it is also a bit prone
to scratches, it has been a bit because I am a
man and putting it in my backpack together with
a padlock that I did not realize that it was there and
the screen has been scratched a bit, it does not change
the experience of use or any of that, but it has
made me think about that point, and it is that
the case with which it comes does not have a cover.
And I do not recommend putting any screen protector
on this tablet because it seems to me that it
would completely spoil the experience using it.
Because I repeat again that with the pencil that comes and both with the felt tips and
with the normal ones, the drawing experience is the best I have tried on a tablet,
above the iPad Pro, the OnePlus Pad or the Tab
S8 Ultra, this tablet is better for drawing.
Well, the summary of my experience with this tablet is that I loved it and I am
thinking of changing it for my OnePlus Pad, although this is much less powerful than
it, but as I say, for drawing it has seemed much better to me.
And to finish, let's move on to the price and conclusions.
The Magic Pad has a single configuration
and costs € 499 with Charger, drawing glove,
case and pencil included, which by the way you
have purchase links in the description, which
if you use them you help me to continue making these videos.
I think it has a price more than fair for
everything it has, a large and good quality screen,
the best battery I have tried and above all a better
drawing experience than tablets the triple of faces.
Let's see, of course I think it has improvable
points, I would have loved it if it had an output
and an HDMI input, a screen with more color
volume or that detected the inclination, but
curiously, although I thought that one of my complaints
when using it was going to be the power, this has not been like that.
And it seems that having a modest processor
benefits the tablet a lot on the battery, but
even so I have not noticed that it is worse than High-end tablets.
And it has not heated up at all while I was using it.
It is true that in games it performs less, but
that is not its audience and even so it is not like it performs badly.
So for all this, of course I recommend it.
And we have been a few years, but I doubt that someone can
take the place of a better tablet, High quality / price.
Honestly, I think it is the best option for people who get into digital and want
an all-in-one with an excellent drawing experience without spending too much.
But in general I think it is a very good
option for anyone who does not want to spend
a lot on a tablet and wants the best drawing experiences there is.
All this taking into account that it is his
first tablet and that XPP is doing a brutal job.
So I am sincerely looking forward to seeing what is next with what surprises us.
And I remind you that you have purchase links
in the description, which if you use to buy
the tablet you help me to continue making
these videos or you can also join the channel
as a member as all these good people have already
done, to which I take the opportunity to thank them again.
And if you liked the video, don't forget to leave a like, subscribe and all that.
Greetings and see you in the next video.
