play01:47

let's uh let's dive a little bit in into

play01:48

your story here first of all why don't

play01:50

you tell us a little bit about yourself

play01:51

your journey through uh your journey

play01:53

into uh P pod and then how you f found

play01:58

success on Etsy

play02:01

um okay so I actually started um well

play02:04

about myself my name is April duplis I

play02:06

from Texas I am 40 years old I am a

play02:09

stay-at-home mom um and I work from home

play02:13

and so this is kind of how I started

play02:15

with pod um this is actually my one year

play02:17

on pod I just celebrated my one year in

play02:20

May um and so last March I before pod I

play02:26

had a Children's Boutique online where I

play02:28

was Drop Shipping

play02:30

um from some vendors inside the United

play02:32

States and I um I had a website through

play02:35

Shopify which I love Shopify um and um

play02:40

you know kind the problem with having

play02:41

your own website is driving your own

play02:43

traffic to these websites and I I solely

play02:47

used Facebook to drive my traffic to my

play02:49

website long story short I got some

play02:52

violations on Facebook in March of 2023

play02:56

last year first ever violations never

play02:58

had a violation before in my decade on

play03:00

there and they shut down my Facebook

play03:04

permanently um and so yeah I was told

play03:07

that it was an accident and that it

play03:09

should have been a temporary suspension

play03:11

but they permanently shut it down and

play03:13

they said that they couldn't go back um

play03:15

what's done is done and they advised me

play03:17

to start a new Facebook which at the

play03:19

time was devastating now I'm super

play03:21

grateful that this happened to me um but

play03:25

so that day I essentially lost my job I

play03:28

um I went from making good sales every

play03:30

day with my business to zero sales and I

play03:33

lost my I I completely lost my income

play03:35

that day which was a really big blow for

play03:37

my family because we're a dual income

play03:39

household like most people are um and so

play03:43

you know I talked to my husband and we

play03:44

were like we've got about a month to

play03:46

figure out something to do um or I'm GNA

play03:48

have to go work outside the home um and

play03:51

so I was on YouTube I was researching

play03:53

how to drive some traffic to my Shopify

play03:56

store I was watching a video by Hannah

play03:57

Gardner and she kept saying pod it was

play04:00

like the third time she said pod and I'm

play04:01

like what is POD um so I open another

play04:04

little window and I'm like what is POD

play04:06

um on YouTube and I always say this is

play04:08

like the YouTube search that changed my

play04:10

life um and a video came up by Cassie

play04:13

Johnson and she explained to me what pod

play04:16

was well just explained in General on

play04:18

this video what pod was and like I think

play04:21

there were like dollar signs in my eyes

play04:23

like when she was explaining this

play04:25

because I could immediately see the

play04:27

potential of being able to have this

play04:30

much inventory this deep and this wide

play04:32

without putting any money into it and

play04:34

and purchasing this inventory and and

play04:36

overhead and stuff like that and so I

play04:39

decided that day in um May of last year

play04:43

that I was going to stop my business and

play04:45

start my pod journey I absorbed all of

play04:49

the information that I could off of

play04:50

YouTube I watched every video that I

play04:53

could find of everyone telling me how to

play04:55

do pod and and how to get on Etsy and

play04:59

and just just everything there's so many

play05:00

good videos and I was just that day I I

play05:05

shut down my other business I cried a

play05:07

little bit and then I was 150% in on on

play05:10

pod and I worked just nonstop for that

play05:14

first month just listing and researching

play05:17

on what to do for pod and that is how I

play05:19

got started on print on demand okay wow

play05:22

well it's really a story of perseverance

play05:24

where most people probably would have

play05:26

given up after after that big blow from

play05:28

from Facebook but not you you rolled

play05:30

with the punches one door closed another

play05:32

door opened and here you are so you had

play05:34

success on Etsy what made you make the

play05:36

transition to Tik Talk

play05:38

Shop um yes so well I really kind of

play05:42

avoided Tik Tok for a little while um

play05:45

Andre my like PR ofi adviser kept

play05:47

telling me like you should get on Tik

play05:49

Tok you should get on Tik Tok and I'm

play05:50

like oh I don't want to I don't want to

play05:51

post and you know I'm I was I'm doing

play05:54

really well on Etsy um and so I don't

play05:57

know I kind of freed up some time just

play06:00

just recently I've only been on Tik Tok

play06:01

for a couple of months now um and so I I

play06:05

kind of freed up some time after I got

play06:06

through one year of experiencing every

play06:09

quarter on Etsy because I needed to

play06:11

design new listings for every quarter

play06:13

last year um and so after I got through

play06:17

all four quarters I I had a little bit

play06:19

of free time because I had designs going

play06:20

into the next quarter and so I was like

play06:22

I'll try Tik Tock shop um and I did it

play06:27

was very easy to start it was just like

play06:29

Etsy the the research that goes into it

play06:32

is just the same as you do on Etsy um

play06:36

you know my motto with Etsy and with Tik

play06:38

Tok shop is to not reinvent the wheel um

play06:42

do not do not just try to come up with

play06:44

designs that you want to sell see what's

play06:47

selling um go to Tik Tok shop see what

play06:50

has sold thousands of items you know if

play06:53

I'm selling T-shirts what's what are

play06:55

people buying in the t-shirts and then

play06:57

make that same with Etsy make what

play06:59

people are already buying and that's

play07:01

exactly what I did with Tik Tok and I my

play07:04

first Tik Tok sale was the day after I

play07:06

opened my Tik talk

play07:08

shop so I mean my goodness it went very

play07:12

well okay so basically you took your

play07:14

already successful business model you

play07:15

had built on Etsy transferred that one

play07:18

to one over to Tik Tok shop and got

play07:19

rolling immediately I really like that I

play07:21

really like that story um and just a

play07:23

quick reminder to you folks out there

play07:25

we're going to have a a uh a Q&A session

play07:27

as soon as we're done with this

play07:28

interview portion so if you got those

play07:30

questions pop those into the chat right

play07:31

now and April and I will be happy to

play07:33

address those at the end okay so great

play07:35

so now you're on Tik Tok shop let's talk

play07:37

a little bit about about what it is you

play07:39

do on Tik Tok shop so what Niche have

play07:41

you targeted is it the same Niche that

play07:43

you were targeting on Etsy what products

play07:45

are you selling can you take us through

play07:47

that yeah it is the same niches that I

play07:50

um targeted on Etsy um it's a it is a

play07:53

little bit different because on Etsy I

play07:55

um I go more towards personalization on

play07:58

Etsy um but do Target women um moms

play08:02

women niches um that kind of deal but

play08:05

and on on Tik Tok I Target the exact

play08:07

same thing but I don't do any

play08:08

personalized items on Tik Tok so you

play08:11

know anything that's trending with women

play08:14

in in t-shirts I've only done t-shirts

play08:16

so far on Tik Tok um I have lots of

play08:19

items on Etsy but I had more time um I

play08:22

there are lots of items I would love to

play08:24

add to Tik Tok and if there were more

play08:25

hours in the day I I would have them

play08:27

already I will eventually I just don't

play08:29

have the time yet um but yes t-shirts

play08:32

specifically the uh Bell canvas 3001

play08:35

Comfort color 1717 those the only two

play08:38

products I've sold I sell them all day

play08:39

long and in the W in just trending

play08:43

women's niches that's the only Target

play08:46

that I have right now okay wonderful

play08:48

well let's talk numbers like how many

play08:50

sales do you get a

play08:52

day well up until about two days ago I

play08:55

was averaging about 30 to 35 cells a day

play08:58

um which is fantastic fantastic um and

play09:00

then just just starting the last three

play09:04

days I have been hitting over 60 cells a

play09:06

day so yesterday I did 78 cells um the

play09:10

day before that was I think like 68

play09:13

cells um so I'm hoping this is my new

play09:16

like trajectory but I have seen a steady

play09:20

increase since I've started selling on

play09:23

on TI Tok so I'm not expecting it to go

play09:25

down as I'm I'm expecting it to

play09:27

exponentially go up actually as as I

play09:30

gain more followers through my videos

play09:32

and my post and this stuff I'm I'm

play09:34

expecting this to really Skyrocket for

play09:37

me if I'm at you know I'm at today

play09:40

yesterday I did 78 sales and I have

play09:42

about 3,000 3,000 followers right now

play09:46

which isn't a ton um but you know if I

play09:49

can get 78 sales with 3,000 followers um

play09:52

I I just can imagine how many Sals I

play09:54

could get if I had 10,000 followers you

play09:56

know exactly exactly well and that's

play09:59

that's that's not bad at all in just a

play10:00

few months so I hope everybody out

play10:02

there's paying attention to this story

play10:04

um well let's talk a little bit about

play10:05

how you get there like how many products

play10:07

do you publish on like a on like a daily

play10:08

or weekly

play10:10

basis right now in total I have about

play10:12

240 products on the Tik Tok shop um I I

play10:16

plan to have much much more

play10:19

my my um you know every day I must um

play10:24

post three so that is like my 100% no

play10:28

matter what happens I'm putting three um

play10:30

products on Tik Tok today I have the

play10:31

same

play10:33

um rules with my Etsy Shop no matter

play10:36

what happens I want to put this many

play10:37

products on per day because I think that

play10:39

it is super important to show both Etsy

play10:41

and Tik Tok that you're consistently on

play10:44

the platform um and you're consistently

play10:46

posting products you're telling them I'm

play10:48

serious I'm I'm a serious business I'm

play10:50

putting products out every every single

play10:52

day that's my theory it's worked for me

play10:54

um but you know some days this morning

play10:57

before I I am here with you guys I've

play11:00

put 10 items on Tik Tok today um and so

play11:04

I have some days where I I try to get a

play11:08

lot more and then um you know some days

play11:10

where I don't get as much because I

play11:12

split my time between Etsy and Tik Tok

play11:14

but a minimum of three items per day for

play11:16

me okay and then how many videos are you

play11:18

posting on a daily

play11:19

basis I am at a minimum of two a day

play11:24

that's a lot right now but it's only

play11:25

because I'm trying so hard you know you

play11:28

with my mom with Etsy Tik Tok and really

play11:31

just anything I do in life is to just

play11:32

come in hot you know like you've got to

play11:35

do a lot at the front end and so some

play11:37

days I do four videos you know but I'm

play11:40

trying to do a minimum of two and not

play11:43

not miss that Mark yesterday I think I

play11:45

did three um so it's I think with the

play11:49

videos as well it's about staying

play11:50

consistent okay and then what's what now

play11:53

that you've been on on Tik Tok shop for

play11:55

a while uh what what have you found that

play11:57

is surprising about the about the seller

play12:01

experience um well I mean really what I

play12:04

found the most surprising so far um is

play12:07

that you don't actually have to post

play12:09

videos to Tik Tok to make sales um so

play12:14

with me in the last 28 days I've done

play12:16

about $20,000 on Tik Tok in sales and um

play12:22

and this was actually before my sales

play12:24

yesterday in the day before that I that

play12:25

I checked this but um about 15% of that

play12:30

came from about $3,000 of that came from

play12:33

the videos that I posted um so if you

play12:37

don't want to post the videos you don't

play12:40

have to I would have still made $177,000

play12:43

in sales this month had I not posted any

play12:45

videos to my Tik Tok however I do think

play12:49

that posting to your Tik Tok is what's

play12:51

going to am I like do I want to stay at

play12:53

$177,000 in sales no I want to hit much

play12:55

higher than that and I think that

play12:58

posting a video

play12:59

and growing a following is going to

play13:02

really Skyrocket my CS okay well I've

play13:05

got one final question for you before we

play13:06

move on to the Q&A portion and that's

play13:08

that's if someone out there right now

play13:10

watching is eager to get uh in on on Tik

play13:14

Tok and follow in your shoes what advice

play13:16

do you have for

play13:18

them um I mean just well first of all

play13:23

the advice that I would definitely give

play13:24

you is to just go on YouTube and um

play13:28

YouTube like Tik Tok violations first

play13:30

because you do not want to get caught

play13:32

with the I've already gotten a few of

play13:33

them um and so it's like Etsy you know

play13:37

you have to follow their rules and you

play13:39

can get shut down you know pretty

play13:42

quickly and so fi figure out what the

play13:44

violations are first and and make sure

play13:46

that you do not violate those my my rule

play13:49

of thumb now is if I did not take the

play13:51

photo and I did not take the video do

play13:54

not post it because Tik Tok is all about

play13:56

original content you cannot share

play13:59

a video that you've pulled off of canva

play14:01

or you cannot share a video that you

play14:04

pulled off I don't even know how they

play14:06

know it's not your video but you cannot

play14:07

share any other video I got some

play14:09

violation points for sharing a video off

play14:11

of canva um so know the violations and

play14:15

then just do a little bit of research

play14:17

there's so many people on YouTube

play14:19

telling you exactly how to do this and

play14:21

make money and just get started it's so

play14:24

easy all you have to do is set up your

play14:26

account and then you use Tik Tok for

play14:31

your research or use Etsy for your

play14:33

research and just go to the product

play14:35

Marketplace and see what's selling and

play14:38

then make that better don't don't take

play14:41

the exact exact design just take it and

play14:44

make it better and then and post that

play14:47

and you know you can find designs on

play14:48

Etsy I find a lot of my designs I make a

play14:50

lot I find a lot of out on Etsy but it's

play14:53

it's really very easy to just today you

play14:56

could open up your Etsy uh your Tik Tok

play14:59

Talk Shop be approved by tomorrow list

play15:01

10 items tomorrow and have a sale by the

play15:03

next day that's how easy it is there you

play15:06

go True Rewards have never been spoken

play15:07

thank you so much for sharing your story

play15:09

April I really appreciate it well we've

play15:11

got some questions from our audience uh

play15:12

are are you ready for this April I'm

play15:15

ready excellent all right Leah what is

play15:17

our audience out there saying what would

play15:19

they like to

play15:20

know yes we actually have a lot of

play15:23

really good questions and specifically

play15:25

for April so let's start with shadman

play15:28

octar he's there asking what tip helped

play15:32

you start earning online in the first

play15:36

place um what tip for Etsy that helped

play15:40

me start um earning online I will say go

play15:43

and watch Stephen Chin's million doll

play15:45

challenge um that was the one video

play15:48

where I took a piece of advice from him

play15:50

about

play15:51

personalization that landed me $50,000

play15:54

in sales by my second month on

play15:57

Etsy um what tip on Tik Tok

play16:01

um I don't even remember what video I

play16:04

was watching on YouTube but it was just

play16:07

about doing your research on Tik Tok and

play16:09

going to find what items when you go to

play16:12

the pro product Marketplace it will tell

play16:14

you what items are in thousands of carts

play16:17

and how many people have bought this

play16:19

item um and then you know that people

play16:22

are out there looking for that item and

play16:24

so those are then those Niche whatever

play16:27

that item is that niche or if I can't

play16:30

find the product in printify I will just

play16:33

take whatever that saying is that people

play16:35

are loving so much and I'll put it on a

play16:37

tote bag in printify or I'll put it on

play16:39

something else and that has always

play16:41

worked for me as well okay wonderful

play16:44

excellent well let's let's keep the

play16:46

question train rolling uh let's what is

play16:48

our next question Leah so kind of going

play16:52

about designs again we have a question

play16:54

from Emma could you explain how to find

play16:57

trending designs how how do you find

play16:59

trends for your

play17:00

Niche um so on Etsy um I will um find

play17:06

what's in 20 plus carts really I I like

play17:08

to add it to my cart because if you add

play17:10

it to your cart and then you go to your

play17:12

cart sometimes you will find some

play17:14

designs that when you put it in your

play17:16

cart it'll be like this is in 547 other

play17:19

carts and that is what I like to call

play17:21

like a golden nugget you're like you

play17:22

know that so many people want this

play17:24

design um and so that will immediately

play17:26

go on Tik Tok because I'm like if 547

play17:29

people have this in their c um so these

play17:31

are designs that I find on Etsy and I'll

play17:33

put them on Tik Tok um it's with Tik Tok

play17:37

I just I either find what's trending on

play17:39

Etsy or I go into the Tik Tok

play17:41

Marketplace up in the search bar I type

play17:43

in women's t-shirts and I see what comes

play17:46

up and I see what people are buying and

play17:48

what has lots lots have sold and lots in

play17:51

the cart and stuff like that and and

play17:53

those are the niches I will Design in

play17:56

and and the designs that I will do okay

play17:59

all right uh yes and and I preach I

play18:01

preach the gospel of competitor research

play18:03

if you want to know what designs are

play18:05

trending find find and seek out other

play18:07

people that are selling in your Niche

play18:09

and see what they're doing build on

play18:10

their ideas and make them your own okay

play18:13

make competitor research part of your

play18:14

regular workflow okay excellent all

play18:17

right well let's move on um let's cover

play18:19

some more questions in the time we have

play18:20

left and I just want to apologize in

play18:22

advance if we don't get to your question

play18:23

but let's see how many we can fit in

play18:24

what's what's the next question Leah yes

play18:26

let's continue the topic about research

play18:29

Haley has a question uh April what is

play18:31

your recommendation for keyword research

play18:34

for Tik

play18:36

Tok listen I'm going to be perfectly

play18:38

honest with you guys I have not put in a

play18:40

lot of effort into the keyword um like

play18:44

with Etsy with SEO that has seemed

play18:46

completely different for me for Tik Tok

play18:49

I have I have looked at what is selling

play18:52

I've done my research on what has been

play18:54

selling and people are just naming it

play18:57

what it is and it's kind of like Etsy a

play18:59

few different things so like if I have

play19:01

like a a summertime shirt and say that

play19:04

it says like salty on it okay so I'm

play19:06

gonna say like salty shirt um comfort

play19:10

colors if mine's on Comfort colors or

play19:12

salty shirt and then I'll do salty shirt

play19:15

Beach

play19:15

t-shirt um summertime t-shirt and then

play19:19

maybe one other thing like women's

play19:21

t-shirt or women's shirt I try not to

play19:23

repeat the words too much because Tik

play19:25

Tok really doesn't like that and so I

play19:26

try to to use like shirt t-shirt t te

play19:29

and then that's kind of where I drop off

play19:30

because I can't think of any other words

play19:31

for t-shirts so um I don't put a ton of

play19:35

effort and Research into the keywords um

play19:39

and my Tik Tok has been pretty

play19:41

successful so I I would say don't put

play19:43

too much thought into that okay yeah but

play19:46

but the thing to take away from that is

play19:47

try to make each each uh title unique so

play19:51

that you're not repeating yourself over

play19:52

and over again good advice there let's

play19:55

go let's go for uh two more quick

play19:57

questions okay Leah all right so this is

play20:00

actually kind of a two-parter we have a

play20:01

question from Katherine do you see

play20:04

better sales with lives or with just

play20:07

posting and then also you mentioned that

play20:10

you don't have to post a video on Tik

play20:12

Tok to make a sale in that case how do

play20:15

you make the sale do you put a link in

play20:17

your bio how does that

play20:19

work okay on the first question I can

play20:22

answer that Beyond a doubt because I've

play20:24

never gone live I'm terrified so I will

play20:28

I'm working up to it um but I haven't

play20:31

yet I you know I've done a little

play20:32

research well I've watched some lives

play20:33

and like I If you're on Tik Tok you and

play20:35

let's please keep in mind I'm very new

play20:37

to Tik Tok so like they're like oh

play20:39

thanks for the tiny Dino and stuff like

play20:41

that and I'm like what is that um so I

play20:43

don't know what any of these things are

play20:44

yet um but as far as your second part

play20:47

I've never gone live that isn't that

play20:49

hasn't worked for me yet so as far as

play20:51

your second question um so this was kind

play20:54

of confusing for me in the beginning but

play20:56

you know your your Tik Tok shop is

play20:58

separate from your Tik Tok like social

play21:01

where you're posting and stuff from when

play21:02

you put your items in your Tik Tok shop

play21:05

now you can link your Tik Tok shop in

play21:06

your social but when you put your items

play21:08

in your Tik Tok shop you know these

play21:10

items are called Product cards and Tik

play21:13

Tock shop is is like a a search engine

play21:17

and so Tik Tok shop is just pushing out

play21:19

your product cards already so like I

play21:21

said earlier like if there's a salty

play21:23

women's T-shirt If someone goes in to

play21:26

Tik Tok shop and searches for a women's

play21:28

be t-shirt mine is probably going to

play21:31

come up in the Tik Tok shop um and this

play21:33

has nothing to do with my posting or

play21:36

social so that's how I've made $177,000

play21:39

in sales from just the Tik Tok shop it

play21:43

doesn't have anything do with social I

play21:45

never needed to post on my social to get

play21:47

these sales so you can start your Tik

play21:49

Tok shop today put all your items in the

play21:51

Tik Tok shop never post a video and make

play21:54

money I do think you'll make more if you

play21:56

grow a following and post some videos

play21:58

but you can still do it without posting

play22:01

excellent all right let's go to our last

play22:03

question all right uh yes last question

play22:06

from Nerdy

play22:08

kitten with all those sales how often do

play22:11

you get Returns on Tik Tok um you know I

play22:14

was thinking about this earlier when you

play22:15

guys were talking about it and so um

play22:18

embarrassingly I don't know my entire

play22:20

Tik Tok total sales but I would have to

play22:24

assume they're somewhere

play22:26

around um I would have to assume I've

play22:28

only been on for a few months like let's

play22:30

say that they're around 40,000 or

play22:32

something like that um I have had less

play22:34

than 10 Returns I do not mess with them

play22:38

I eat the cost and I move forward I I I

play22:41

just don't care um it's not worth it um

play22:43

I have the same theory on Etsy that I

play22:46

just you know I I accept the return and

play22:48

I move

play22:49

forward okay well thank you very much

play22:52

and I don't know why you're nervous

play22:53

about going live we're live right now

play22:54

and you're doing great so uh thank you

play22:57

very much for thank you very much for

play22:59

for sharing your story with us April

play23:01

you're doing great
