you have some form of leaky gut syndrome
is a lot higher than you think in one
study of 114 people they found that 61
patients have either the first or second
impaired bacterial microflora so that's
actually pretty crazy because 54% of the
patients in that study who had acne also
had an imbalance of bacteria in the gut
AKA leaky gut syndrome this means that
over 50% of people who have acne very
well might also have leaky gut syndrome
that might be you all right so let's
slow down what is leaky gut syndrome and
why does it cause acne so your gut is
just a simple way of talking about your
small and your large intestines this is
where the food goes after your stomach
does its thing so that it can be
absorbed into your bloodstream now think
of the lining of your intestines as a
bunch of little bricks that when these
bricks are stacked up in a healthy way
it creates a barrier that does not let
toxins and food and other things escape
from your intestines into your
bloodstream right now when the lining of
your intestines is compromised those
bricks become loose and things can leak
through there that shouldn't so leaky
gut syndrome is simply when your gut is
leaking things into your bloodstream
that it shouldn't when toxins leak from
your gut into your bloodstream it can
cause inflammation of the entire body
including the skin which then can cause
acne your body can also have a really
hard time eliminating the toxins and the
waste that's circulating in your
bloodstream because of leaky gut
syndrome and then it can try to get rid
of some of those toxins and waste
through your skin which then can also
cause acne so what causes leaky gut
syndrome the main two culprits of leaky
gut syndrome are simple the first is
disbiosis which is just a fancy way of
saying an imbalance of gut bacteria
where there's more bad bacteria than
there is good bacteria this leads to all
sorts of problems in the entire body you
know bloating gas pain all sorts of
stuff but what we're worried about is
that the overgrown bad bacteria can
inflame the gut lining which then leads
to leaky gut syndrome and acne the
second thing is inflammation of the gut
and that comes from the things that we
eat and the things that we ingest I know
you've experienced this before you know
you eat something that doesn't agree
with you your belly gets super bloated
super hard painful feels like you have
to fart but you can't I'm actually not
super proud to tell you this story but
I'm going to do it anyways I remember
one time I ate like 12 Quest protein
bars and these things are filled with
sugar alcohol I ate all that in one
night the next day I could literally
barely get out of bed like my belly was
felt like it was going to explode it was
so hard I felt like I had to fart and I
just I couldn't it was not not fun so
bad bacteria and inflammation can cause
leaky gut syndrome okay so now we have
all that information but what can we
actually do about it so that we can get
rid of our acne so to put it very simply
we want to one reduce inflammation and
two increase the amount of good bacteria
and decrease the amount of bad bacteria
in our gut let's talk about improving
our bacteria first so we can do this by
ingesting probiotics and prebiotics
probiotics are living microorganisms
that are beneficial to the host's health
upon on ingestion they provide a
protective shield across the intestinal
mucosa the most commonly used and
therefore the best studied probiotic
strains to date are lactobacillus and
bifo bacterium so probiotics are the
good bacteria and they literally create
a protective lining in the gut and we
can introduce good bacteria by either
taking a probiotic supplement which
usually comes like in a pill form or we
can eat any fermented food so some
really good fermented foods are kimchi
sauerkraut pickles or really any pickled
vegetable miso temp yogurts kefir
there's a ton more really any fermented
food is going to give you good bacteria
probiotics so when I first started
trying to heal my leaky gut syndrome I
made a rule where I basically had one
fermented food each day and I aimed for
something like two to four servings so
that's probiotics now prebiotics are
plant fibers that feed your good
bacteria or your probiotics right so
probiotics are the actual good bacteria
prebiotics just feed that good bacteria
so that it can grow and you can have
more of it so Prebiotic food is
literally any food that has fiber in it
so things like whole grains you know
brown rice quinoa Etc you know oats
vegetables of any type fruits Etc
literally anything that has fiber is
going to feed that good bacteria now
here's an insane statistic an estimated
95% of American adults and children do
not consume the recommended amount of
fiber that is insane so if prob biotics
are the good bacteria and Prebiotic
fiber is the food that helps them grow
you can see why so many people struggle
with leaky gut syndrome cuz people
aren't even having enough fiber so
there's no food for the good bacteria
the recommended daily allowance of fiber
is 25 G although that is just a minimum
your body can handle much more for
example I have I would say between 50 to
100 gram of fiber a day but you may need
to work your way up to handle that much
or you might be a little farty and
constipated at first okay so now that
you know why good back is so important
it's also really important that we
reduce the bad bacteria right
dermatologists forever have thrown
antibiotics at patients with acne I know
this because I was on doxy cycling for
way too long and it didn't do anything
for me antibiotics destroy all bacteria
not just the bad kind they just
completely destroy all of it right and
in a study about using probiotics to
treat acne it says the authors reported
that patients treated with a probiotic
had improved clinical outcomes and
reported fewer side effects than from
the standard antibiotics I really wish
my doctor had informed me more about all
this stuff because I had a whole bunch
of other problems that came from using
antibiotics and I wish I would have just
used probiotics and just improved the
balance of good and bad bacteria right
all right so moving forward how do we
reduce bad bacteria and also going back
to the second thing I talked about
earlier that we can do to improve leaky
gut syndrome how do we reduce
inflammation in the gut it is super
simple we just need to be mindful of how
we eat so how high sugar and high fat
foods foods with chemicals and
preservatives processed foods alcohol
all of that stuff causes inflammation of
the gut and allows the bad bacteria to
basically grow and Thrive right now I
know when I was looking to this at first
I was kind of scared cuz I didn't really
want to make any changes to my diet
right but luckily when you are eating
more Prebiotic plant fibers and
fermented foods you know the thing we
were talking about earlier they already
have an anti-inflammatory effect on the
gut so then we just need to be a bit
more careful about the other things that
we eat eat you know if you drink alcohol
drink a little less often be a little
bit more intentional about when you're
drinking if you eat lots of fast food
reduce it and try to cook for yourself
more often you know things like that
just try to improve things slowly over
time you don't have to go Z to 100
completely change everything about your
lifestyle over time you're going to
notice how your body changes and feels
when you start to eat differently so it
will very quickly become intuitive okay
so this is pretty crazy when I had my
cystic acne at its very worst I was
covered like five to 10 cysts every
single day blackheads everywhere my face
was always red I was eating absolutely
terribly somehow I have no idea how I
never really put this together but I
never thought of what I was eating as
you know anything to do with my acne
right and when you hear what I was
eating your jaw is going to drop I was
having a gallon of milk every single day
yeah two to three protein bars every
single day I was using a box yes a box
that's 126 servings of Splenda every
single week I like my sweet oats I like
my sweet tea I like sweet everything and
that's just the start you know no fat
cheese no sugar candies just the list
goes on and on I was eating all the
weird products and nothing that was
really like Whole Foods So eventually
when I started to change my diet my acne
very quickly started improving and
that's what I'm hoping will happen for
you as well that being said improving
leaky gut syndrome is not an overnight
fix it takes time it takes patience so
do your best with the info I've given
you and pay attention to how your body
and your skin reacts to it and also I
would say you know research more into
leaky gut syndrome because there is so
much more info that I had to leave out
of this video so that it didn't get too
long I might make a part two to take a
deeper dive into it if anyone's
interested but be patient and and try to
