Outlines
🖱️ Mouse Customization with 3D Printing
The speaker discusses their experience using the Logitech G304 mouse, highlighting its affordability and impressive battery life, which has not required a battery change in a year. However, feeling the urge to personalize the mouse's appearance, they decide to completely replace the exterior using a 3D printed model found on Thingiverse, a popular platform for 3D printing designs. The chosen model resembles the G Pro shape with a modern honeycomb pattern. The video outlines the process of outsourcing the 3D printing to JLCPCB, a site known for PCB manufacturing but also offering 3D printing services, using the SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) method, which is ideal for complex shapes without the need for support materials. The final product arrives from China with high-quality printing that matches or exceeds home 3D printer capabilities. The speaker then proceeds to disassemble the G304, listing the parts needed for the assembly with the new 3D printed shell.
🛠️ Transforming a Mouse with DIY Aesthetics and Weight Reduction
After receiving the 3D printed shell, the speaker assembles the mouse with the original internal components, resulting in a significant transformation in appearance and a substantial weight reduction from 100g to 57g. They also address the absence of mouse feet by creating custom ones using a sliding sheet from Daiso and a hole punch, achieving a cost-effective and functional solution. The video recommends purchasing a used G304 on platforms like Mercari for those without the original mouse, as the exterior is not used in the modification. The speaker concludes by estimating the total cost of the project to be around 5000 yen, including the purchase of the mouse and the 3D printed parts, and encourages viewers to try this mouse modification.
