Q & A
What is the main theme of the sermon from the Book of Judges?
-The main theme of the sermon is the dependence on God for leadership and help, rather than relying on human rulers like prime ministers, kings, or presidents. It emphasizes that God will raise up helpers when needed, and that the Israelites' victories were not due to their own righteousness but because of the sins of their enemies.
How are the judges in the Book of Judges described in the sermon?
-The judges are described as leaders chosen by God, not through official national elections or successions. They arise when there is a crisis, perform their duties, and then disappear without their leadership being passed on to their children or families.
What is the significance of the tribe of Judah asking for help from the tribe of Simeon?
-The request for help between the tribes of Judah and Simeon signifies interdependence and mutual support, which is likened to how the church should operate, with different parts supporting each other as one body.
What does the sermon say about the relationship between the Israelites' obedience to God and their victories?
-The sermon suggests that the Israelites' victories were a result of their obedience to God, not because of their inherent righteousness. It contrasts this with the defeats they faced when they were disobedient.
Why did the Israelites cut off the thumbs and big toes of Adoni-Bezek?
-The Israelites cut off Adoni-Bezek's thumbs and big toes to prevent him from fighting again, as a person without these body parts would be unable to effectively wield weapons or engage in battle.

What does the sermon imply about the role of God in the rise and fall of nations?
-The sermon implies that God is not biased towards any nation or tribe but allows the rise and fall based on their obedience or disobedience to Him. It is not about favoritism but about the consequences of one's actions.
What is the message of the sermon regarding the equality of all people in God's eyes?
-The message is that God sees everyone as equal, and that the successes or failures of individuals or nations are not due to God's favoritism but are a result of their adherence to or deviation from God's commandments.
How does the sermon encourage reflection on the actions and consequences in one's own life?
-The sermon encourages reflection by drawing parallels between the actions and consequences faced by historical figures in the Book of Judges and the potential outcomes in the lives of the listeners, prompting them to consider their own obedience to God.
Outlines
🙏 Dependence on God Over Human Leadership
This paragraph discusses the concept of divine intervention in the absence of human leadership. It emphasizes that when people fully depend on God, they may not have a prime minister, king, or president, but God will raise up a helper when needed. The narrative draws a parallel to the Book of Judges, where leaders, or judges, were not official or hereditary but chosen by God to lead during times of crisis. These leaders served their purpose and then disappeared without leaving a legacy, illustrating a complete reliance on God's guidance and intervention.
🤝 Unity and Mutual Support Among Tribes
The second paragraph highlights the importance of unity and mutual support, using the example of the tribes of Judah and Simeon from the Book of Judges. It explains that the tribe of Judah sought help from the tribe of Simeon to fight against the Canaanites, demonstrating interdependence among the tribes. This is likened to the functioning of a church, where members should support each other as part of one body. The paragraph also references 1 Corinthians 12 to stress that each part of the body, regardless of perceived strength or weakness, is essential and should work together for the common good.
⚔ Consequences of Personal Sin and Divine Justice
This paragraph narrates the story of Adoni-Bezek, the self-proclaimed 'Lord of Lightning,' who was defeated by the tribes of Judah and Simeon. It describes how Adoni-Bezek's pride and cruelty led to his downfall, as he had previously cut off the thumbs and big toes of 70 kings, reducing them to begging. His own thumbs and big toes were cut off as retribution, illustrating the concept of divine justice where one's actions eventually return to them. The paragraph concludes with a reminder that God's justice is not biased but is meted out based on one's deeds.
🕊 Lessons from History: Obedience and Consequences
The fourth paragraph delves into the consequences of disobedience and the importance of learning from history. It discusses how the Israelites' disobedience led to their suffering at the hands of their enemies, contrary to the belief that they were always victorious because of their faith. The speaker uses Deuteronomy 9:4 to explain that the defeat of enemy nations was due to their wickedness, not Israel's inherent righteousness. The paragraph serves as a cautionary tale, reminding the audience that disobedience to God can lead to suffering, even for the faithful.
📖 Reflecting on the Book of Judges and Repentance
The final paragraph invites the audience to reflect on the recurring cycles of disobedience, enemy attacks, and divine intervention as described in the Book of Judges. It suggests that these cycles are not just historical but are also relevant today, serving as a reminder of the consequences of disobedience. The speaker encourages the audience to examine their conscience and consider whether they are experiencing a similar cycle, emphasizing the need for repentance to break free from this pattern and return to God's path.

prime minister there is no King there is
no president God was their King
but whenever they were in need there was
a helper
so this is what happens when we depend
on God totally you may have nobody to
help you nobody to support you no prime
minister no King no president but
whenever you are in need a helper will
be raised God will raise one helper for
you God will send one helper for you
that is what happens for all those who
depend on God completely
instead of depending on human beings
when the Lord your God trust them down
trust them out means enemies will trust
them thrust out
do not say to yourself when you see
enemies are being defeated don't say to
yourself it is because of my
righteousness the Lord has brought me in
to occupy this land
never ever say this because I'm so good
and they are God is chasing everyone out
and his God is showing partiality to me
because I am so good and that is why God
is helping me and chasing everyone out
but God says don't ever say this
I am chasing them out because they
committed sin
not because you are better than them
it is because of my righteousness that
the Lord has brought me in to occupy
this land don't ever say to yourself but
rather because of the wickedness of
these nations
because these nations were doing
wickedness they were committing terrible
sins that is why they are wiped out from
this land not because you are special
for me everyone is equal
God says
[Music]
is the Lord
my dear brothers and sisters we were
having Bible study on the Book of Judges
and chapter one onwards we were
reflecting from yesterday there before
yesterday started and we continued
reflecting about it and when we speak
about these judges the leaders of Israel
they are not officially national leaders
of all Israel
they are not successors of royal family
they are not elected leaders they are
not selected leaders
they are just chosen by God Whenever
there was a need in the country
therefore there was no literally there
was no leadership for the whole Israel
whenever the whole country or maybe some
tribes out of tall tribes any One Tribe
faced some crisis suddenly God lift one
leader from that tribe when another
tribe find a crisis face a crisis the
Lord lift one leader from that tribe
and there is specialty for this
leadership these leaders suddenly they
come up
and they do their Duty and they
disappear
and their children are not known their
parents are not known they come do their
Duty finish their Ministry go back
disappear that's how the judges were
seen there is no success succession
there is no continuation of this
leadership
so it is like they were totally
depending on God and God raised correct
leadership in the correct time just to
protect the people and these leaders
whom who are selected need not be the
perfect leaders they all have their own
weaknesses shortcomings but still God
used them God used them powerfully to
perform the Miracles and conversion and
repentance therefore they had no prime
minister there is no King there is no
president God was their King
but whenever they were in need there was
a helper
so this is what happens when we depend
on God totally
you may have nobody to help you nobody
to support you no prime minister no King
no president but whenever you are in
need a helper will be raised God will
raise one helper for you God will send
one helper for you that is what happens
for all those who depend on God
completely
instead of depending on human beings
praise the Lord now let's reflect about
this Bible passage from the Book of
Judges chapter 1 verse one on verse as
we started yesterday after the death of
Joshua the Israelis inquired of the Lord
who shall go up first for us against the
Canon eyes to fight against them and
where was to
the Lord said Judah shall go up I hereby
give the land into his hand
and verse 3.
then Judah said to his brother Simeon
when we speak about Judah said to his
brother Simeon these are not about two
people two judai is not one person
because the Jacob had 12 children and
all of them are dead and this Judah
spoke to Simeon means the tribe of Judah
spoke to the tribe of sibion it's about
the whole tribe he's not one person
speaking to another person the tribe of
Judah spoke to the tribe of zimeon and
that is what is mentioned there so tribe
of Judas said to his
brother's semione come up with me into
the territory allotted to me
that we may fight against the Canaanites
then I too will go with you into the
territory aloud allotted to you we will
help each other we will support each
other
you come with me and I will come with
you
so this is a kind of a intercession
asking the help support from each other
this is how the church should work
any church which is dependent on God
total dependent on God will work like
these because we are all part of one
body
they cannot exist individually different
tribes cannot exist by itself they all
have to depend depend on each other and
that is why the tribe of Judah spoke to
tribe of Simeon and asked for a help and
let's read verse 4.
then Judah went up the tribe of Judah
went up and the lord gave the Canaanites
and the parasites into their hand and
they defeated ten thousand of them at
besek
so mighty brothers and sisters the Lord
then the Judah went up Judah means is
not one person went up it is the whole
tribe went up so then Judah went up and
and the lord gave the Canon eyes and the
parasites into their hand God gave them
up God gave all the enemies in their
hand why why did God give them
why did God allow them to be victorious
because they sought God they they were
seeking God
they inquired about God they obeyed God
and they depended on each other they
asked the help from each other
they seek God obey the Lord and work
together
in the in the church this is exactly
what is half supposed to happen they
wish seek God we obey God and we work
together not individually hand cannot
work alone the whole body has to support
eyes cannot work alone the whole body
has to help that is what we read in
First Corinthians chapter 12.
First Corinthians chapter 12 verse 21
onwards we read like these First
Corinthians chapter 12 verse 121 the eye
cannot say to the hand I have no need of
you nor again the head to the feet I
have no need of you the I cannot work
alone
the head cannot work alone the feet
cannot work alone therefore the eye
cannot say to the hand I have no need of
you
suppose somebody is attacking something
is coming straight to your eyes
and the eyes cannot just just because I
closed his eyes doesn't mean it will be
protected the hand should come and block
it
therefore we need to support each other
so that's how the church works and
that's how the early Israelites worked
when Judah went Simeon helped when
Simeon went help Judah helped and all
the tall tribes helped
and then verse 22 we read like these
verse 22.
on the contrary the members of the body
that seemed to be weaker are
indispensable some members of our body
seem to be weak but they are
indispensable everyone is important in
the body verse 23
and those members of the body that we
think less honorable
we clothe with greater honor we have
certain body parts which we consider
dirty or Eve or not less honorable but
we clothe with greater honor
every part of our body is important we
cannot deny something or some part of
our body Unholy or unclean or dirty or
useless or and all these things every
member of our body is Holy and good and
needed and are less respectable members
are treated with greater respect
verse 24 we read like these
whereas our more respectable members do
not need this but God has so arranged
the body giving the greater honor to the
inferior member
God has arranged the whole body as if
every part has got its its play its role
to play it was 25.
that there may be no dissension within
the body
but the members may have the same care
for one another
so there should one body cannot declare
fasting one suddenly or maybe one part
of the body cannot declare uh you know
today is a half day they can't declare
the one hand cannot say from today for
two three days I'm going for Holiday the
the body parts cannot say this because
the whole body works together
with common good with common intention
and verse 26 we read like this
if one member suffers all suffer
together with it if one member is
honored all Rejoice together with it
verse 27.
now you are the body of Christ
individually members of it that's how
the Israel the whole Israel is the child
of God the whole Israel is considered as
a one person but individually there are
12 members 12 tribes and they were
supporting each other they always
supported and depend on each other and
that is why they survived in the Dark
Ages praise the Lord thank you Jesus
let's go back to the Bible passage the
Book of Judges chapter 1 verse
3 4.
and the lord gave the Canaanites and the
parasites into their hand
and they defeated ten thousand of them
at besek besek is a place called
lightning the basic means lightning
so there is a there was a king called
adoni basic adoni besek means a lord of
lightning
so we are going to read verse 5 let's
read
and fought against him
and defeated the Canaanites and
parasites they came and defeated
the name meaning the Lord of lightning
because he considered himself as a God
himself he considered himself as the
Lord
and he was so cruel
and then we read verse 6. adoni basic
fled
but they pursued him
and caught him
and cut off his thumbs and big toes
many brothers and sisters he looks like
so cruel you know when adoni basic the
king of basic and his name is Lord of
lightning when he accepted the defeat he
ran away when he ran away this Judah and
Simeon the whole Army of Judah and
Simeon they chased chased this King and
they caught him and they cut off his
thumbs his thumbs and his big toes he
cut they cut it off
why do they do normal Romans used to do
like this because if your thumbs and
toes toes are cut off then you cannot
fight a battle
normally during the time of um second
world war and first world war and even
those days especially in Roman times
Roman times Roman Empire times everyone
is supposed to go for military practice
military service
therefore If the parents are not happy
to send their children for military
service they used to cut off the thumbs
of the children and also the children so
that the military will not accept the
children so they don't want to send
their children to military therefore
they used to cut it off
so the same way here these people they
hope they pursued him and caught him and
cut off his thumbs and big toes because
he should never fight again he should
never do battle again and this is what
he did but looks like so cruelty but at
the same time let's read verse 7.
then the Lord then this Lord of
lightning this self-projected
self-proclaimed God he said
70 Kings with their thumbs and big toes
cut off he used to pick us pick up
scraps under my table as I have done so
God has paid me back
see why did Judah and Simeon happen to
do these cruelty to him it is because of
his own sin he is going through the
consequence of it
the circumstances made him to go through
all these things
otherwise God will never allow these
kinds of things to heal anyone it
happens because his own sin followed him
he cut off the thumbs and Toes of 70
Kings
as there is and they used to pick a
scraps under his table now as he has
done it is done to him
every sin that we do commit today
tomorrow it will come back to us
115 we read like The zobadia 115.
the word of God says 150 and the word of
God says for the day of the Lord is near
against all the nations as you have done
it shall be done to you your Deeds shall
return on your own head
as you have done as you have done it
shall be done to you your Deeds shall
return on your own head the same thing
happened to adoni basic
he cut off the toes and and the thumbs
of 70 Kings and it happened back to him
and let's read verse 7 of Judges chapter
1 verse 7.
so at 70 Kings with their thumbs and big
thoughts cutoffs used to pick a scraps
under my table as they have done God has
paid me back they brought him to
Jerusalem and he died there he died in
Jerusalem Mighty brothers and sisters
always remember
many a times these kings are destroyed
and killed in front of Israelites not
because God was showing partiality to
Israel but because these Kings were
wrong
Deva falling victim of their own evil
Deeds
because of their evil Deeds they were
destroyed it's not because God's side
sided one part fam one Community or One
Tribe it's not because God loved only
Israel but not the people of the adoni
basic God loved everyone everyone is
children of God but because of their own
mistakes they were defeated
because this Israel was obedient to God
they were protected later you can see
that Israel was disobedient then they
became
victim they were defeated
so anybody who is disobedient will be a
victim
will become prey of the enemies let's
read this passage Deuteronomy chapter 9
verse 4 when Israelites were coming out
of Egypt to the promised land on the way
they defeated so many enemy Nations and
the Lord says
when the Lord your God thrusts them out
before you
trust them out means when God pushed
many enemies out of your sight when
Israel has came forward all the enemies
who came against them were defeated one
by one all of them were defeated why
when the Lord your God thrust them down
trust them out means enemies will trust
them thrust out
do not say to yourself when you see
enemies are being defeated don't say to
yourself it is because of my
righteousness the Lord has brought me in
to occupy this land
never ever say this because I'm so good
and they are bad God is chasing everyone
out and his God is showing partiality to
me because I am so good and that is why
God is helping me and chasing everyone
out
but God says don't ever say this
I am chasing them out because they
committed sin
not because you are better than them
it is because of my righteousness that
the Lord has brought me in to occupy
this land don't ever say to yourself but
rather because of the wickedness of
these nations
because these nations were doing
wickedness they were committing terrible
sins that is why they are wiped off from
this land not because you are special
for me everyone is equal
God says
praise the Lord
my dear brothers and sisters even it is
applicable today
you know Israel was not always
successful
Israel was not always Victorious
sometimes you can see the Philistines
coming and destroying Israel
just like today
the church will be all don't ever say
that just because you believe in Jesus
Christ Church will be always successful
everywhere
some Nations some religions will be
successful sometime for a time being
just to teach you a lesson
just to teach me a lesson teach us a
lesson because we are not living our
life properly
therefore God will allow some others to
rise up against us so that we may be
taught the Lesser and repent and come
back to the Lord this is what exactly
happened in the Book of Judges seven
times the sake cycle happens
disobedience
enemy coming and attacks them then they
cry out for help and then God raised
their Savior and then their life is
restored this cycle is repeated seven
times in the Book of Judges and the same
cycle is being repeated in this
2022-23 to
therefore don't get scandalized or
disturbed when you see these things are
beings these Cycles are being repeated
Even in our generation because it is
because we are failed in following the
right God true God
we are disobedient and we are rebellious
just like our ancestors in the
wilderness did
praise the Lord thank you Jesus praise
to Jesus thank you Father praise you
father that is why we read book Judges
chapter 1 verse 7 we read like these
with their thumbs and big toes cut off
used to pick up scraps under my table as
I have done so God has paid me back they
brought him to Jerusalem and he died
there
let's close our eyes
we will continue reflecting about these
Bible patches continuation of the Bible
passages in the coming days let's close
the eyes and sing together the offer to
him and let's examine our conscience and
see do we go through the same kind of
experiences with judges and the Book of
Judges Israel is going through the cycle
of
rebellious and will be Disobedience an
enemy coming attacking and then crying
out for help and as Savior comes and
restores everyone and this cycle we may
also being go through again if we don't
repent
