Transcripts
now it's time for the honorable mentions
this is where I'll talk about a project
that the company did that isn't really
an animated movie but it's worth talking
about for Disney I thought of talking
about a Disney film that's half animated
half live action only one problem
there's a lot that they have done in
that category there's Enchanted Pete's
Dragon songs of the South the list goes
on then I realize that I'm an idiot OT
because if I thought of a half animated
half liveaction film the first thing
that would pop up in my mind would have
been this film Mary Poppins it's the
story of an English Nanny named Mary
Poppins who arrive at the Banks family
to take care of Jane and Michael because
that their parents are too busy the kids
are unhappy so Mary and her Chimney
Sweeper friend Bert teach them how to
have fun and how to make the banks
household a happier place during the
entire production one person actually
had the balls to become enemies with
Walt Disney PL Travers the author of the
book the movie was based on it had been
a while that Walt wanted to do a film of
Mary Poppins since
1938 but Travers thought that making a
movie based on her book wouldn't do
justice he finally got the rights in
1961 but Travers wanted and got the
scripts approval rights to plan the film
and compose the songs it took about 2
years one reason was that she would
usually come and object about almost
everything instead of original songs she
wanted known songs from the early
1900s and she objected of the animated
sequence did Walt respect her
orders hell no on the contract that
Travers signed it said on the F print
that Walt would have the final say Walt
one Travers
zero it was the film that made a
Broadway actress into one of today's
greatest movie stars Julie Andrews she
was supposed to have her movie debut on
the film adaption of my fair lady but
then she got replaced by Audrey heer
then when Walt saw her on Broadway in
Camelot he went backstage and asked her
to do the role of Mary but she declined
it because she was pregnant at the time
then Walt told her we'll wait for you
after it was released she starred in
many other popular films like the sound
of music and the Shrek
series also Dick Van djk who played
Berke would always remember and keep in
mind that this is what he said to do the
worst attempt of a British accent ever
by an American actor to do this special
effect is cited as the most challenging
thing that Disney had ever done they had
to do everything the two- strip sodium
process piano wires and even bungee
cords it took years to make these
effects look good choreographers Max bro
and DD wood and musical arranger IR Cal
had to be brought in the staff members
went to do all the other stuff the songs
in this movie are the most well-known
ones that the Sherman Brothers ever
wrote actually he written over 30 songs
for the film and some were either
rejected or cut for time when it was
released on August 27th
1964 it was the highest grossing film
out of that year with $28
million on the Academy Awards he got an
amazing 13
nominations one of them was best picture
and five wins including best actress for
Julie Andrews best for Chim Chim Cheree
and best score later on it made an
animated short for the 40th anniversary
DVD called the cat that looked at it
King today this film will always be
remembered as one of the crowning
achievements of Walt Disney's
career now I'm going to do something
that might be very rare or might never
happen again in animation look back have
a second honorable mention which is in
this case Who Framed Roger Rabbit it's
about the case of one of Tomb Town's
biggest stars in 1947 Roger Rabbit said
that he got framed for the murder of
Marvin Acme so the liveaction detective
Eddie Valiant who isn't comfortable with
Tunes ever since his brother's accident
decided to work on the case to clear
Roger's name when director Robert zamus
wanted to direct it Disney turned him
down because he was making some films
that bombed at the time
then after he released Romancing the
Stone and back to the future he finally
got hired the film can be noted as
possibly the biggest crossover ever with
the characters of Disney Looney Tunes
and many other Animation Studios of the
50s together in one film this is
probably the only time that we might see
Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny appearing at
the same time I
repeat Mickey Mouse
and Bugs
Bunny together at the same
time actually since this film was made
by Disney War Brothers agreed to add
their most famous characters in the
movie but only if they have the same
amount of screen time as Disney's
characters even though there's a lot of
known characters of the ' 50s there are
some That Couldn't appear because of
Licensing like Tom and Jerry little Lulu
the cast of popey and Casper the filming
was supposed to be in LA but then they
moved to England because the animation
director Richard Williams refused to
work in La there were a lot of people
who were considered to do many different
roles for the film like Jack Nicholson
Harrison Ford Robert Redford and more
were considered for Valiant Rody
McDowell and Christopher Lee were for
judge doom and Terry Gilliam was
supposed to be the director they have
used two different programs to make the
liveaction animation mix to work there's
the Vista vision camera to accommodate
the split screen photography of
animation and live action and there's
George Lucas's industrial lights and
magic for the blue screen effects in the
tont town scene this was the last time
that we would hear the man with a
thousand voices Mel blank voice the
Looney Tunes characters he's known for
and may qule returned to do the voice of
fetty Boop ever since
1939 on its release in 1988 it was a
major success almost everybody praised
it and it was the second highest
grossing film of 1988 behind Rainman it
won four Academy Awards including a
special one for Richard Williams for
animation Direction and creation of the
cartoon
characters it had some theatrical shorts
released in later Disney films and a
land called Mickey's t town that was
made in several Disney theme parks there
was a controversy about some nudity with
Jessica Rabbit but I think that one
Disney executive says at best people
need to get a life than to notice stuff
like that some people who worked on the
film are thinking of making a prequel of
the film called who discovered Roger
Rabbit in conclusion Disney had to go
high and low to be the oldest and one of
the greatest animation companies in
history literally everybody has at least
one film that was made by them that they
considered as one of their most favorite
films of all times Walt Disney once said
I only hope that we never lose sight of
one thing it was all started by a m but
we all know by now that it actually all
started with a man a man with a dream
and a mouse so you might be wondering
what does the future hold for Disney
well at the end of 2010 they will
release their 50th animated film
Rapunzel Glen Keane the directing
animator of the film said that his
biggest goal for the film will be to
make the computer animation look like
traditional Disney classic handdrawn
animation well I don't know how the heck
you're going to do this Glenn but good
luck with that then the year after that
there will be a handdrawn animated film
of Winnie the Pooh
the three people as of today announced
as the cast are Jim Cummings as Pooh and
Tigger Tom Kenny as rabbit and Craig
Ferguson as owl in
2013 they were released another
handdrawn animated film The Snow Queen
the songs in this film will be done by
Alan manin and Glenn Slater oh by the
way they're also doing the songs for
Rapunzel and finally in the same year
they will release King Of The Elves
which will be directed by the same guys
who also did Brother Bear so to finish
it off I'm going to tell you the top 10
Disney films for my top 10 not only that
I will count on what I think is the best
but also on other top 10 from
professional movie websites like rotten
tomatoes and IMDb on what critics say
and on its impact to the studio now
listen care y I'm going to do it pretty
fast here we go number 10 Cinderella
number nine Dumbo number eight Bambi
number s 101 Dalmatians number six
