12 Daily log ideas💜
Summary
TLDRThe video explores 12 different styles of daily logs that can be customized and used in a journal. It starts with a simple, classic daily log that lists tasks and uses headers to mark each new day. Other ideas include sectioning off the page into spaces like events, tasks, reflections; incorporating timelines and schedules; splitting personal and work tasks; grouping tasks by priority; focusing on habit tracking; and decorating pages. It also contrasts day-per-page and week-at-a-glance layouts. The goal is to spark ideas for readers to create daily logs tailored to their needs.

Outlines
📝 Classic Daily Log Layout
The first daily log layout is the classic style where you simply write the day's date as a header and list all your tasks and notes for that day sequentially. At the end of the day, you draw a line and write the next day's header.
🗂️ Sectioned Daily Log with Spaces for Events, Tasks, Reflection
The second daily log idea has pre-divided sections for events, priority tasks, a larger task list, space for reflection or memories, and potentially a section for meal planning.

Highlights
There are 12 different daily log layouts discussed
The classic daily log simply lists tasks without any sections
Sectioned daily logs allow custom organization of information
Transcripts
while the original daily log is super
simple maybe you're looking for
something a little bit more so today
we're going to have a look at 12
different styles of daily log that you
can try in your Journal as you can see
we're working in a traveler size
notebook for this ideas video but all of
the layouts we're going to talk about
can be scaled up or scaled down to fit
in different size notebooks if you're
working in a more typical A5 size you
can effectively take these ideas pretty
much as they are and just put two of the
same layout side by side for two
separate days start starting with the
classic though you can of course just
have a daily log where you write out a
title for whichever day you're working
on and then list out all of the things
you want to get done that day at the end
of the day or once you finished writing
your list you then just put in a header
for the next day and continue on the
nice part about this style is that you
don't have any wasted space and each day
just takes up the amount of space it
needs to also if you miss a day there's
no real harm because you just pick up
where you left off you can see in this
one I've put in some little green dots
to kind of highlight particular tasks I
like to do this to highlight my priority
for any given day once that thing is
done I can just cross it off and then I
can set my next priority to keep myself
moving forward as said though we want to
have a look at dailies that have a
little bit more so our second idea has
some sectioned off spaces what you
actually use each of these spaces for is
completely up to you but the ideas we
have for this top section are events for
the day priority tasks or affirmations
we then have a larger space for the task
list a smaller space after the task list
either for kind of an end of day
reflection gratitude or writing down any
highlights or memories from the day and
you could also put in a section for
either a meal plan or a meal log really
depends on what information is important
for you and what you want to record the
nice part about a structure like this is
that you can set all of them up ahead of
time and you also don't have to do the
ruled Line work you can of course just
put in the little green dots or bullet
points to say this information goes here
as we go through I have tried to make
these layouts look a little bit nice
with some you know decorative washi tape
and some different styles of headers but
you can keep yours as simple or as
decorative as you want to our next daily
log idea though Works along the idea of
a timeline so we have the times for the
day running down the page and then next
to the relevant times you write down
what's going on this one can be
considered a combined schedule and task
list so for any of the things that
you're doing in the day that have longer
periods of time underneath the header
for that time frame you can write in
some tasks that you need to do
associated with it either within that
time frame or before it happens notably
because we're working in a Travelers the
horizontal space here is a little bit
smaller but if you were doing something
similar to this in an A5 you could of
course split your page in half have your
timeline on one side and your task list
on the other if you like the idea of a
timeline but you don't want to take up
the full page with it you can of course
turn this horizontally and just use it
as kind of a visual representation
rather than writing in what's happening
so probably using some kind of color
code or key to remind yourself what each
of these mean on this daily log idea
though you can see we have the header
we've also got the weather prediction or
like forecast for the day a space for
the task list you don't have to use
bullets you can use boxes if you want to
and then depending on how you color in
or signify those boxes they could mean
different things another thing the daily
logs are really great for or daily log
layouts is journaling and these are
effectively spaces of infinite
possibility you could be responding to
pre-written prompts you could just be
writing about what happened in the day
listing out things you were grateful for
about what's in the news really whatever
you want and it's a great way to fill in
extra space if you're going with a page
per day view after this one though
flipping over this idea is one that's
closest to what I typically use for my
daily vogs or have been recently and
that's giving yourself a loose time
blocked schedule and then just a task
list each of these five dots at the top
here are blocks of time so I like to
think of it is two before lunch two
after lunch and then the block after
dinner again we've got an interesting
looking header which you can just swap
out for something simple or more
decorative if you want you can also
specify what your highest priority task
is and if you want to keep track of your
mood you could put a little dot on each
page and just fill it in with an emoji
face you can see some of the pages I
have tried to populate with some kind of
examples of how you might fill it in
whereas others I've left blank so you
can kind of just see the structure I'd
love to know which you prefer in the
comments do you prefer saying the
layouts with kind of like sample tasks
filling them in or do you really just
want to see the structure of them and
then you can kind of imagine how you'd
fill them in on the right though this
idea sees us splitting our page into
different sections in particular having
a work side and a personal side on the
work side we have the work task list and
then a work schedule this one I filled
in based on the idea of teaching and
then on the personal side we have
personal tasks and a daily reflection
which is another space of infinite
possibility of course you can take any
of these layouts chop and change them
put in things that you want take out
things you don't need and I very much
encourage you to do that we want your
daily log to work for you so get rid of
stuff that's not going to be useful this
one is another timeline style daily log
but we've condensed the timeline so it's
just at the top and treated it just as
more of kind of an events list so a
little green circle to check off when
the event happens the arrow indicates
how long it goes for and then the bottom
section here would be for your task list
this one gives you a good balance
between writing space for either tasks
or journaling or whatnot and then still
seeing that timeline of what's going on
if the very specific times things are
happening doesn't really matter so much
so you don't need to know that like 5:00
it's video prep time what you could do
is a morning afternoon evening style so
just taking your space that you've got
for your daily log splitting it into
three sections based on the time of day
for each of these sections you could set
yourself a highest priority or maybe
record any events that were happening in
that block of time or other tasks and
I've also attached a mini tracker to
each of these so three little dots to
represent energy mood and hydration and
then you just fill in the dot with a
symbol to indicate the outcome for that
thing so for instance if you are higher
energy maybe a little Lightning Bolt
versus a DOT to say low energy maybe a
smiley face to say good mood and a not
so smiley face to indicate not so good
mood and then a little water drop to say
yes I was hydrated versus a DOT to say
no I was not really depends on what
things you want to track and you can
also incorporate habits that aren't for
every single block for instance if you
had a medication that you only take in
the morning maybe you could have a
bullet for that one if there's a
particular time of the day that you're
trying to do exercise you could put in a
DOT for that really depends on what
you're keeping track of flipping over
though our next idea is another one that
is pre- sectioned out but the titles for
the sections are written down the side
this also means that you could kind of
drawer up that side panel ahead of time
for each of the days and then once you
know how many priorities you're going to
have for the day you can then write in
the head for the tasks if you after a
while realize you need more space for
gratitude you could bump that upper line
kind of tweak it as you go along when
you have more of an understanding of how
much space you need for each of the
different sections these sections again
are just examples so we have priorities
tasks notes and gratitude but you could
incorporate that habit tracking that we
said before maybe bring in a space for a
particular type of task so things all
related to work or whatnot in fact our
next idea is all about grouping your
tasks this one is the Alistair method
meod so we have a column for different
things and then a column for the tasks
in this case I've set it up based on
priority so H for high priority M for a
medium priority task L for low n for
either a note or something that isn't a
priority and if you haven't yet put a
dot in any of those first four columns
that would be a task that hasn't been
prioritized effectively the way that I
would tackle this is write out all of
the things that in theory need to get
done in the day and then once I had the
them onto the page then go and assign
them to each of the different columns
that way I know that while I'm working
through my task list I start with the
high priority then I move to the mid
then I move to the low so on and so
forth as I've noted here you don't have
to base this on priority though there
are different ways that we can group our
tasks so maybe you have a column
dedicated to tasks that need to get done
out of the house versus ones that need
to get done at home they could be for
Life areas so home work personal
whatever else it could be based on time
frames similar to the idea we had on the
last page so morning afternoon and
evening or you could prioritize these
based on things to do things to defer
things that you're going to delegate or
things that you're going to delete off
your task list once you decide that
they're really not all that important I
love the Alistair method it is a method
that I use often but our next idea is
one that really leans into the idea of
habit tracking up the top here we have
the daily habit tracker so I've just put
a dot for each instance of having done
the habit for for instance eight little
dots for eight cups of water three dots
for three meals one dot for exercise so
on and so forth we also have a space for
breakfast lunch and dinner and planning
out your meals and then this one is kind
of like an Abridged energy tracker so an
upwards arrow for high a downwards arrow
for low energy and then a little dash
for kind of medium energy each of these
dots would represent a different
check-in point so maybe every hour on
the hour you ask yourself how is my
energy going right now I've also noted
down here that in this sectioned out
dailies kind of method you don't have to
use it for the sections that I have
there are a bunch of different things
that you could put on your dailies so
themed lists trackers tasks gratitude
events whatever else but most of the
ideas we've looked at so far have been
fairly minimal or at least can be set up
in a fairly minimal way but if you want
something a little bit more decorative
you could try a style like this in this
one you'd probably go in and put your
decorative stuff in first and then just
work around the outside of this to put
in the the other stuff for instance in
this one we have some little kind of
photo spaces for kind of memories from
the day a space for your top tasks or
priorities a couple of spaces for your
checklists and then maybe a little
journaling space as said though you can
switch any of these things out for
anything on this list or anything else a
lot of the ideas we looked at work on a
day per page basis or if you're using a
wider Journal maybe two days per page
where you split it in half vertically
and you have one then the other but if
you want to see more days on one spread
and like the idea of them all taking up
the same amount of space then this idea
could be for you in this one we just put
in a header for each of the days that
you want to capture on the layout and
the nice part about this is that you can
make it look very balanced by having the
same amount of space for each of the
days and you can also go and add tasks
that you want to do on future days
before you actually get there for
instance adding things to your Thursday
task list while you're still on Monday
while there is certainly value in
letting a daily log take up as much
space as it needs to for instance when
thinking about the classic style where
you just write out everything for the
day regardless of how much space it
takes up and then cap it off with a
header for the next day this layout can
be very appealing for people now you
might be looking at this and think Jess
isn't this just a weekly log well I was
surprised to find out that a weekly log
actually means something different to
the bullet Journal method compared to
what it means to most of us if you're
curious about what a bullet Journal
method approved weekly log actually
looks like we do have a separate video
on that one so click or tap on that one
and I'll see you over there
