Transcripts
this is XP Pen's magic drawing pad it is
a standalone Android tablet designed
specifically for artists so let's check
it out hello my name is Brad I review
tech for Creative professionals and I
think it's really interesting that these
products are coming out right now this
is XP pens version of an Android tablet
hon is releasing one right about now as
well if that review is not up on my
channel it probably will be over the
next week or so so subscribe to see that
but I'll probably wind up doing a
comparison video it's all said and done
just for fun so this thing comes in at
around $500 US this is a 12.2 in screen
this is about as wide as an iPad Pro not
quite as tall it's similar to like a
Galaxy Tab S9 plus so this is slightly
larger than the standard like 10 11 in
Android tablets that you see out there
it's got a 3x2 ratio and it's got a
2160 pixels by
1,440 pixel resolution one area where
you could improve the screen or the
drawing angles when it's sitting flat on
your desk you can definitely tell that
the colors offset a little bit and you
have to tilt it up to a good like 20°
before you get to that like premium
color range the screen does leave a
really good first impression and I think
the main reason why is some of the
wallpapers that they've included with
this thing are just really nice and
funky and Illustrated so many Android
tablets just have these like boring like
abstract looking wallpaper things having
a little bit of personality to your
drawing tablet as soon as you boot it on
is pretty cool now makes this cool is
this comes with the same pent Tech that
XP pen uses in most of their tablets
that's what makes this really appealing
as an artist in illustrator this is
their X3 Pro technology now when it has
made the transition from their drawing
tablets to the Android tablet most of
the things are intact in fact you can
actually take a pen from any of their
other products and use it here the pen
that comes in the box is a very thin pen
it reminds me of like the Galaxy Tabs S
Pen which makes sense as a portable
device you want a lightweight thin pen
easy to carry but if you do like more
flared pens with rubber tips that XP pen
has and many of the other pen makers
have you can use one of XP Pen's other
pens here and works really well it's
pretty much the identical drawing
experience now many of the non Samsung
tablets that I've tested the Pens have a
fair bit of wobble and that's my main
critique in why I usually steer people
towards those Samsung tablets this
doesn't really have that problem these
lines are super smooth the pen pressure
is really really good there's only one
thing that holds me back from like
fullart saying yeah this is the one and
that is is that the pen tip is offset
from the cursor it's just enough to kind
of throw you off when you're trying to
complete a line and match things up now
on XP pens tablets if this does happen
which is pretty rare but nowadays out of
the box it's calibrated really well you
can go back in and you can recalibrate
that screen that's something you can't
really do on an XP or on an Android
tablet but so many other things about
this tablet are done really well first
of all the screen looks pretty good it
does have a uh like a matte coating on
it this is something that's really
Comming on drawing tablets and Graphics
tablets very uncommon for an Android
tablet most of the time like if I'm
using an iPad or something like that I
wind up getting a matte screen protector
to add a little bit more texture to
drawing because I just prefer it now
this is a pretty smooth m
almost a little too smooth I think they
could have gone a little rougher with it
when we're talking about the matte
coating that you put on a tablet this is
really there's a trade-off to be made
here the rougher that that mat gets the
more it dulls the colors in the image
and so what you're always trying to do
with the graphics tablet is is add that
matte coating so that you get that rough
texture so it feels good to draw on
while at the same time not like messing
up your colors and your image too much
because it is a is a visual medium you
want it to look good I think this screen
for my taste airs a little too much on
the side of smoothness I want just I
want it to be just a little bit rougher
but I don't think it's a bad thing I
still think you get a fair amount of
control this is another area where I do
like the fact that I could pick up one
of XP Pen's actual like large size
styluses those have more of a like a a
wider tip a wider nib at the end and
some of them even come with like rougher
nibs like more of a felt tip nib if you
wanted to use something like that so
that is a nice thing here that there is
an option that if you were okay with
spending a little bit more to pick up
another stylist you could get a slightly
better feel you could get a wider nib
that may gives you a little bit more
drawing control so having some of those
options within their ecosystem is a big
plus quick note I totally missed this in
the box there are some extra nibs you
get eight extra nibs and four of them
are felt tip so if you want a felt tip
experience you can get that without
having to buy the extra pen sweet when I
started taking online art courses I
quickly found myself way in over my head
it was like jumping from elementary
school straight into college I needed
something that was in between that my
learn to draw in 60 days course is that
middle step that goes over the basics of
drawing so you can jump into more
advanced tutorials and courses with
confidence to learn more about that
course and my other ones go to bradart
school.com now as far as being an
Android tablet is pretty solid it's
running stock Android which is really
nice there's not like a lot of bloat
wear there are some like program
pre-installed on here some drawing apps
izs paint X Art rage Concepts bamboo
paper which is a Wacom app that's kind
of funny medy bang is also pre-installed
here I jumped into the Google play store
installed my favorite drawing app which
is clip Studio paint the performance
itself it's good enough this is using
like a midlevel processor this processor
is on par maybe like just a little bit
of a step down from something you might
find in Samsung's latest Galaxy Tab S9
Fe which is kind of their lower version
of their S9 line if you go looking for
some lag on the pen some drawing lag you
can definitely find it uh I ended up
testing this against the Galaxy Tab S9
light Fe since they're both kind of in
the same price range they kind of have
similar specs to them and I found the
lag to be comparable to that so that's
just what you're going to find on an
Android tablet in this range it's not
bad it shows up more on camera than it
does in person and it's something you
get used to the build quality is pretty
solid here now one thing you do find in
a lot of these kind of like mid range to
higher range Android tablets is they try
to pack in some like premium materials
there's not a lot of like premium
feeling materials here the back is
plastic the front is glass it's got that
matte screen on it but that didn't
bother me too much in fact one of the
things that I really liked about here is
the the materials they've chosen to use
don't attract a ton of fingerprints that
matte screen surface isn't going to
fingerprint as much as a glossy screen
surface the back plastic doesn't attract
a lot of fingerprints so this is just
going to look nicer longer now in the
box we have a couple things one of the
things that it comes with is this little
protective case I personally don't like
cases a lot of people do you want to
protect your investment I totally get it
so it does come with something that will
help you do that you also get a drawing
glove that's kind of cool of course you
get a USB type-c cord you get a power
charger so you can charge this thing
that's something Samsung has stopped
putting in their tablets for I don't
know some reason probably because Apple
does it with their phones and of course
you get like a quick start guide and we
card and all that fun stuff too other
than the processor what other tech specs
are we looking at here we have a
256 GB of storage there's also a Micro
SD card slot along the side so if you
want to add more yourself you can
totally do that we have two cameras
along the front both of those are 8
megapixels and we also have a rear
camera along the back that is 13
megapixels so what do I think about XP
Pen's magic drawing pad I think it's a
really good first start as far as the
next iteration of this tablet I'd love
to see like a little bit more texture on
the screen I'd love love to see that
cursor fixed outside of that I think
they've got something really good here
even though I love Samsung's Android
tablets like that glossy screen isn't
the best to draw on they offset that by
putting a little bit of a rubbery tip on
the SP pen that's just not an organic
feel to it you know it's it's something
you have to get used to and I know for a
lot of new people that sort of thing
drives them nuts because it doesn't feel
natural it's good to see people who
really get drawings start to dive into
Android because there are so many great
drawing apps available on the platform
now but what do you think let me know
Down Below in the comments thank you all
for watching and I'll talk to you in a
couple of

days
