alright let's get started so yes I will
be sharing some tips to combat frizz and
high porosity hair so just for some
background on my hair I have type A
type 4A 4B natural hair and I have high
porosity hair I have medium density and
I have fine hair strands as well so
before we get started I have my notes
over here so before we get started let's
review what high porosity is and talk
about why it's so prone to frizz
so high porosity hair is hair whose
cuticles are in a raised position
naturally
so therefore when your hair it has a
raised cuticle moisture comes in very
easily however it makes the hair have
difficulty retaining moisture so
moisture enters and Eaves moisture
enters and leaves the hair just as
easily if you're interested in finding
out some tips to retain moisture in your
high porosity hair you can feel free to
check out my retained moisture
um video that I posted on my channel
I'll link it on your screen as well as
in the description box but yes you can
check out that video if you want some
more tips on that topic but yes so when
your hair has this cuticle raised it's
prone to accepting moisture like I
mentioned when your cuticle is open your
hair is more likely to be frizzy whether
it is taking in moisture or just exposed
to a moist environment like steam in a
shower or after it rains and things like
that so high porosity hair is prone to
frizzy hair and becoming moisture
overloaded which is more likely for it
to be in a a frizzy state so yes that is
why High porosity hair is so prone to
frizz and that is what high porosity
hair is so let's get into some of the
tips that I use to combat frizz in my
high porosity hair tip number one is to
avoid too many humectants when styling
your hair so I've talked about
humectants I feel like in every single
video that I've made but just to review
humectants are ingredients that add
moisture to the hair and bring moisture
to the hair so some include honey maple
aloe slippery elm
marshmallow
um and I think that's it yeah so those
are some of the common humectants that I
see in natural hair products so I like
to make sure I'm not using too many
humectants when I'm styling my hair I
like to layer my products and so I pair
two products sometimes even three
products when I'm styling my hair and so
I like to look at the ingredients of
each of those products and based off of
the ingredients list determines how I
determine whether or not the product is
going to go with the other ones so how
it works is the ingredients list is set
up where the ingredients that are first
have the highest amount in that product
and then as you go down it's less and
less of that ingredient so if I have a
product that is high in glycerin which
is one of the humectants that I
mentioned then you will know that it's
very moisturizing and it's gonna have a
lot of Glycerin in the product sorry the
sun just went behind the clouds um yeah
but if the glycerin is low in the
ingredients list then you know that the
product is a little bit lower in
moisture content and so when I have two
different products so for example I use
the lco method which stands for liquid
cream oil method or leave-in cream oil
so my favorite combination which again I
feel like I've talked about
so many times on my channel is this
combination so I like to use the meal
pomegranate honey leave-in conditioner
so this one does have humectants in it
and if you catch on quickly then you can
tell by the title of the product the
name of the product rather that it has
honey in it so that is a humectant and
honey is high in the ingredients list oh
no glycerin is high in the ingredients
list there is Maple in here which is
kind of in the middle of the ingredients
list and then there's honey kind of a
little lower in the ingredients list so
in the middle like middle low and then
there's glycerin low in the ingredients
list as well
so yes there's a lot of humectants going
on but the main one that catches my eye
is the glycerin which is high excuse me
high in the ingredients list and then I
like to pair it with this this is the
curl Theory multi-style cream this is my
favorite cream one of my favorite hair
creams to put on my hair when I am
styling it because I have high porosity
hair and I need to make sure I have
moisture in my hair I do like to use a
lot of high humectant products
um so I like to have products like this
which this doesn't have any humectants
in it no protein in it so this is what I
call a nothing product and so these are
products that don't have any
particularly moisturizing or protein
like strengthening ingredients in them
so these are really good because they
just kind of go with anything like I can
pair this with this leave-in conditioner
I have a number of leave-in conditioners
that have a lot of humectants in it like
most of them do so it's good to have
products like this that can go with
anything
so yes so I would not pair
um my Mio leave-in conditioner with
something that is also equally
moisturizing so what's another example
um this product wouldn't match with this
one anyway but this is just an example
so this is the Jane Carter curls to go
curl cocktail conditioning styling cream
so yes this is an this is a product that
has glycerin in it so this has glycerin
high in the ingredients list and then
aloe low in the ingredients list so yes
that is a product that would not go very
well with I don't know where I went my
Mio leave-in conditioner that would not
go very well with it just based off of
the ingredients breakdown so that is an
example a long-winded example of how I
match up my products and so when you
want to prevent frizz in your hair you
don't want to use too many humectants
when it comes to styling your hair
because you're going to just overload
your hair with too many humectants and
your hair is going to be left frizzy so
yes that is my first tip avoid adding
too many humectants and have nothing
products on board to help balance out
the moisture content of your products
tip number two is to tie your hair down
at all times so for example in the
shower after moisturizing your hair or
after refreshing your hair in any way so
tying down your hair helps to seal in
the moisture because it helps your
cuticle to lay down and it forces the
moisture to go into your hair rather
than into the environment basically
if you tie your hair down it forces your
hair to lay down and it helps for the
moisture to evaporate and to sink into
your hair rather than you know your hair
being left with a lot of room for frizz
to kind of build up
so for example if I tie if I moisturize
my hair and don't tie it down after I
moisturize it the moisturizing products
can kind of sit on my hair and just open
the cuticle up and just continue to
cause frizz but if I lay down my hair it
kind of forces it to smooth down and
into place tip number three is to not
apply too much water when refreshing
your hair when it comes to refreshing
your hair or just doing something to
your hair in general I feel like the
natural hair community has kind of
taught us that we need to be doing
something to our hair every day to make
it grow to maintain it and things like
that now while I do support the idea of
having a routine and doing things
routinely to your hair to maintain it I
don't think that we need to be doing too
much to our hair so one of the things
that I don't think you should be doing
is applying too much water when
refreshing your hair so um there's been
like this trend for a while of always
carrying around a water spray bottle
with some oil and just refreshing your
hair from time to time
so like throughout the day even I don't
think that's necessary I find that when
I apply too much water to my hair the
cuticle raises and then I'm left with
frizz so unless I am refreshing my hair
in the middle of the week I usually
don't apply any other products to your
hair or to my hair rather I feel like if
you give your hair a really good dose of
moisture on wash day and you know you
tie your hair down so it sinks in and it
stays good you really shouldn't have to
keep refreshing your hair every day and
if you do I would question what products
that you have to use to actually get
what you need if that makes sense like I
think you might need to rethink what
you're using I would suggest going with
heavier products because High porosity
hair has an issue with retaining
moisture High porosity hair tends to
need thicker products so yes when I do
refresh my hair I do use a refreshing
spray I don't use straight water because
I just find that it makes my hair super
frizzy and it just doesn't add anything
to
my hair so I personally like this
refreshing spray this is the Mio
pomegranate and honey curl refreshing
spray so yes this is my go-to refreshing
spray at the moment I used to use a few
other refreshing sprays I was really
trying to experiment and figure out
which one I liked and just what type of
formula I would want and for a while
there I was using water and oil yeah I
think I have a hair refreshing video
that's a few years old and I was
spritzing my hair with water and then
oil and things like that and now I don't
do any of that maybe I need to do an
updated refreshing routine I don't know
but to be honest I just put this on my
hair like every couple days but yeah I
love this formula it has moisturizing
ingredients so it has glycerin in it but
it also has some protein in it has low
silk amino acids which means I has amino
acids that are lower in the ingredients
list and amino acids are the building
blocks of proteins so they're
essentially just per protein particles
like cut up so it's little bits of
protein and that's what I like to do
also I like to make sure that my
refreshing products have a little bit of
protein in them because I find that when
I'm refreshing my hair because I use
such moisturizing ingredients and kind
of like over moisturize your hair so I
like to make sure that I add a little
bit of protein when I'm refreshing my
hair so that I stay a little more
balanced as opposed to like in the
moisture overloaded side of the protein
moisture balance scale and it also
claims to be anti-frizz which I agree
with okay tip number four is that four
okay tip number four is to not touch
your hair when refreshing it so again
spray products when refreshing your hair
so every time you touch your hair there
is an opportunity for your hair to
become frizzy so when you're refreshing
your hair or doing anything like that I
would recommend using spray products
because I find that um it messes up my
hair when I am smoothing my hair on
smoothing things onto my hair you're
just gonna cause frizz and mess up your
style so it's good to go with spray
products so that you don't have to touch
your hair at all tip number five is to
cover or protect your hair when putting
on shirts so this is what I love to do
when I'm getting dressed I like to make
sure that I keep my hair wrapped up or
also throughout the day if I'm changing
my clothes or when I go shopping I like
to bring a satin scarf with me so that I
can have something with me to not mess
up my hair because it's like my least
favorite thing when I'm shopping but I
want to try on a shirt and it's going to
mess up my hair so I like to carry a
satin scarf with me when I go shopping
so that I don't have to worry about my
hair getting Frizzy from you know
clothes passing over it okay tip number
six is a really important tip it is to
diffuse your wash and go you guys Game
Changer wash and goes have been a
hairstyle that I've always struggled to
perfect so I wanted to try something
different than just my normal twist out
and yeah I just
was not having success with it and I
found out that the main reason was
because I was defeat wasn't diffusing my
wash and go and I was trying to air dry
I've been seeing this topic and talking
about why air drying is bad for high
porosity hair so I found an article
online and I will actually link it in
the description box in case you're
interested and it gave some information
like wrote out and explained why one tip
would be better than the other like pros
and cons so I will summarize it right
here so I'm paraphrasing by the way so
your curls look best when they have just
been styled diffusing your hair helps to
set your curls in place and hold their
shape better this means better curl
clumping and less frizz so I definitely
agree with that statement like if you've
ever washed wash and go your hair and
you just put your gel on your hair super
defined and it's in the place that you
want it to stay if you diffuse your hair
in that position your hair is more
likely to stay in that position if you
let your hair air dry your hair going to
shrink up it's going to get frizzy and
it's not going to look as defined and as
like you know slick down as possible
your hair will have raised and your
cuticle will have raised by then
also the time between the moment you
finish styling your curls until the
moment they are 100 dry is crucial for
avoiding frizz your curls pop once they
have had a chance to form and set air
drying your curls can leave them
vulnerable to frizz so yes so if you
make your drying time longer than it can
be then your hair is going to cause your
hair is going to have more frizz so I
found that air dry my hair again made my
hair super frizzy and it shrunk but I
felt it diffusing not only helped me
keep my length but in my curls world so
much more defined and shiny I definitely
agree with the article
because yeah
when you diffuse your hair your hair is
dry and the curls are defined and you
don't have any frizz but when you air
dry you have a bunch of frizz so that's
something that I would um think about
doing if you do like to wash and go your
hair but don't like the results I would
try diffusing it tip number seven is to
apply oil to your fingers so I love to
do this when I am manipulating my hair
in any way I like to apply oil to my
hands so the oil that I like to use is
actually an oil mixture sweet almond oil
with a bunch of different essential oils
so this is what it looks like like I
said it is sweet almond oil with a bunch
of different essential oils so I will
just apply that to my hair when it is
time just as act as like a barrier to
um prevent my hair from getting too
frizzy from manipulating it and you want
to use a light oil because light oils
tend to be a little more slippery I find
that the heavier oils are a lot more
sticky tip number eight is gentle
manipulation so especially when you're
fluffing your hair or during a take down
when you are applying oil to your
fingers and touching your hair another
thing to remember is to be gentle when
taking out your hair especially with
unraveling your twist I will see so many
videos of girls just
separating the two pieces so just be
careful I would say stretch out the hair
to separate it and then you know gently
bring it back into place I would not go
from the middle of your twist and try to
like separate it I know it takes a long
time and I know we have to do a lot with
our hair but I say be gentle when
manipulating your hair not only to
prevent breakage but to prevent frizz
Let Your Hair stays as nice as possible
and it will require less manipulation
likely because you won't need to fix it
over the week all right you guys that is
the end of this video I thought I had 10
tips but I only had eight so yes I hope

prevent frizz in my high porosity hair
