welcome back to China I am your American
friend and guide to this country on Ming
and if you haven't been here yet you're
probably wondering how you're going to
be treated just walking down the street
will people look at you especially kids
are they going to be curious are they
going to be a little scared I mean after
all to some people you are a walking
talking alien living in China for a
number of years I've been exposed to a
lot of kids through teaching English and
I can honestly say they are quite
curious about foreigners maybe even more
so than other Asian countries and
they're quite friendly they'll probably
say hello to you on the street even
adults
hello this is very likely to happen
outside of the big cities but even in
Shanghai and Beijing it can happen and
some kids might go even further just
because they may have never seen a
foreigner in their life like
this
they came all the way over to say hi
they're going to be
late we
out those kids came all the way over
here just to talk to me this was a
reoccurring almost daily event when I
lived in China all those years camera or
not the reactions seem to be the same
inside outside this kind of stuff
happened
[Music]
everywhere I keep seeing this kid he
keeps going behind and looking through
the glass over there and then he comes
over there and then he goes back there
oh there he is there he is oh look he's
going to run away he's going to run
away
[Music]
there he's
good they are super curious about
foreigners like they all have to learn
English and they they're kind of
interested in going up and saying hi
trying to use English it's pretty
cute
there he
is you may be chased by kids in China
there's
[Music]
another of course speaking Chinese as a
foreigner is going to draw more
attention to you but you could not speak
Chinese or not do anything just sit in
the coffee shop and people may look at
you through the window even if you're
not filming
it happens a lot or you could be walking
down the street and people may ask for a
photo with
you
[Music]
type
col
byebye
a that little girl was so cute she's
kind of scared um so yeah I've had kids
like when I used to teach English I walk
them to the classroom if they're really
small I've had kids cry just seeing me
you know you got have tough skin to do
that job they just see your face they
start crying these little kids but most
of them were okay a lot of them were
just curious a couple of them cried on
the first day but then they got used to
me and once they were used to me
teaching them then it wasn't a big deal
at all but there was some Shock Factor
on the first
[Music]
Dayo
sh
wow
[Music]
byebye he said I'm on Earth I'm an
Earthling well yes I am I am an
Earthling I did not come from
Mars
of course Chinese kids are not the only
ones that are surprised and curious
about foreigners I've seen the same
exact kind of reaction before in Japan
many times like
this byebye
good byebye
and kids may want to practice a little
bit of English with you but do recognize
it will be a very limited
conversation
dog cat
so if you really want to communicate
with people smoothly you got to put in
some effort and learn the local language
that's why I always start with audio
lessons I'm using this method daily to
learn Cantonese and Vietnamese right now
it's the method I always use to start a
new language pimsler there are 51
different languages for you to choose
from it's focused on conversation and
it'll get you talking and pronouncing
things correctly right from the start I
swear by this program and right now is
the cheapest time to buy language
learning software because of all the end
of the year sales so go into the video
description right now and take advantage
of that before it's too late even a
little bit of foreign language skills
will go a long way you never know when
you're really going to make someone's
day like

interactions to be had just by learning
a foreign language yes as a foreigner
