Q & A
What is the Po 79 car SOS project, and what has been accomplished in Part 10?
-The Po 79 car SOS project is a car restoration project, and in Part 10, the project has been completed. The speaker spent 235 hours over 132 days working on the car, rebuilding and restoring it to the best possible condition. All major construction and repairs are done, except for a final cleaning and touch-up painting.
What challenges did the speaker face while working on the car?
-The speaker faced several challenges, including bad weather, issues at home, and the time commitment due to having a full-time job. Additionally, the front wheels and suspension caused problems, requiring coilover adjustments, changes in tire size, and wheel spacing adjustments.
Why did the speaker need to change the front tires, and how was the issue resolved?
-The speaker found that the profile of the front tires was wrong, causing rubbing in the arches during test drives. The profile was higher in the front than in the rear, and the thickness was too thin for the wheel. The issue was resolved by fitting new tires with the correct profile and spacing the wheels out to prevent rubbing.
What advice does the speaker give regarding the wheel spacers?
-The speaker recommends changing the 40mm spacers to a solid 40mm spacer or switching to wheels with the proper offset. The current setup uses a combination of shims and spacers, which could be optimized for better performance.
How did the speaker solve the arch rubbing problem on the driver's side?
-The arch rubbing on the driver's side occurred due to a mispositioned fuel filter inside the arch. The speaker repositioned the fuel filter and zip-tied the connectors to prevent rubbing. After the adjustment, there was no rubbing during normal driving or going up slopes.
What modifications were made to the car's exterior and interior?
-Exterior modifications included new headlight fittings, custom grills, proper positioning of shark vents, repainting parts, and adjusting the side skirts. Interior modifications involved new door cards, replacement seals, a new radio with Bluetooth, repainted interior parts, and a sport steering wheel. The car also had its windows, arch liners, and trim panels adjusted or replaced.
What challenges did the speaker encounter with the car’s suspension and wheels?
-The speaker initially installed coilovers, but the car was too low, and the front tires had the wrong profile, leading to rubbing in the arches. After changing the tires and adjusting the spacers, the speaker had to resolve further rubbing issues by repositioning the fuel filter and making sure everything fit correctly.
What is the speaker’s plan after completing the car project?
-The speaker plans to move the car to a top-secret storage location while waiting for the owner to settle the bill. The speaker's wife will be happy to have the driveway back for their other car. The speaker is also looking forward to attending a car show at Motorfest in Essex.
What is the speaker’s view on working on future car projects?

What is the significance of the upcoming Father's Day event for the speaker?
-Father's Day coincides with a car show called Motorfest in Essex, which the speaker is excited to attend. The speaker will be taking their white car to the show, looking forward to meeting new people and enjoying modified cars.
Outlines
🚗 The Final Part of the Car SOS Project
In this opening segment, Paul expresses relief and satisfaction that the car rebuild is finally complete after a long, hard process. He shares details about the time spent—235 hours over 132 days—and describes how this personal project affected his personal life due to his regular job and the poor weather. Despite these challenges, Paul feels proud of the results and hopes the car's owner will be happy. He briefly mentions that only minor cosmetic touches remain, such as cleaning and applying touch-up paint.
🛞 Troubles with the Front Wheels
Paul discusses the final issue he encountered with the car's front wheels. Initially, the coilovers were set either too high or too low, causing rubbing on the arches. After much trial and error, including tire replacements and adjustments to the wheel spacing, Paul resolved most of the issues. He explains how incorrect tire profiles and insufficient spacing were causing the rubbing. By adding a 10 mm shim and using the correct tires, the rubbing improved, but some minor adjustments were still needed for perfect clearance.
⚙️ Adjustments to Wheel Spacing and Suspension
Paul continues explaining how the car's wheels needed additional adjustments. He describes adding a 40 mm spacer to achieve proper clearance between the wheels and the arches, recommending a solid 40 mm spacer for better performance. He also talks about repositioning the fuel filter in the driver's side wheel arch to prevent rubbing when making right turns. These changes eliminated the rubbing in normal driving conditions, though full-lock turns may still cause minor rubbing against the arch liners.
🚘 Recap of Exterior Modifications
In this section, Paul provides an extensive summary of the external modifications. Starting with the front of the car, he details the replacement of headlights, installation of new front grills, and adjustment of side skirts. He also touches on finer details like repainting grills behind the arches to blend them in and making custom arch liners for both the front and rear wheels. Overall, much of the work involved making precise adjustments to ensure the components fit properly and looked professional.
🔧 Interior Overhaul and Final Touches
Paul goes into detail about the work done on the car's interior. This includes replacing door cards, fixing window alignment issues, and installing new drip rails to prevent water leakage. He also refreshed much of the car's interior trim, including painting parts like the center console and dashboard. Additionally, Paul upgraded the radio to a modern system while maintaining the functionality of the original navigation system. The interior now looks clean and finished, providing a factory-like appearance.
🔑 Preparing for Storage and Reflections
In the concluding section, Paul discusses his next steps, which involve moving the car to storage as he waits for the owner to settle the bill. He reflects on the entire journey, expressing exhaustion but a sense of accomplishment. Although unsure if he would take on such a project again, Paul hints that he might consider it in retirement. He ends by sharing his plans for the upcoming Father’s Day, where he will attend a car show, and wraps up the video on a cheerful note.

hello everybody how are we all Paul 79
here I hope you're safe and well welcome
to Part 10 of Po 79 car SOS project this
is the final part and uh the reason why
I'm sort of smiling is I'm very pleased
to say the car is
done yes such a relief um it's been a
long hard slog I've enjoyed doing I've
enjoyed doing it um but it's been long
um it's been hard cuz I obviously have a
proper job it's caused is a few issues
at home and the weather hasn't been very
good but I'm really pleased to say it's
uh it's all done um I've got it to the
best that I can um I hope the owner will
be happy with it and yeah just some
stats for you um I spent uh I've spent
235 hours on it uh I've had it 132 days
and and yeah um those 200 odd hours
that's basically yeah I've basically
rebuilt the car um you know um apart
from fitting the kit I've pretty much
redone and done everything that is
required of these builds um it took
longer for certain things because there
are things I had to sort of undo and
then redo but anyway that's all in the
past um sorry I'm looking a bit soaked
um yeah it's it's summer here in the UK
and as uh you know as standard we're
having a great British
summer um you know I was I was looked at
the calendar the other day and um it's
going to be the 21st of June soon and
that's when the nights start drawing in
so and it feels like we've had no summer
and that's like you know about 10 days
away so or less than 10 days so it's
about a week away in fact so but anyway
right so um the car is done there are
there are a couple of bits that I still
need to do on it uh and when I say done
I mean all the construction all the sort
of hard jobs um getting it up to up to
standard all it needs doing is it needs
a thoroughly good clean and uh I need to
go round it with the old touch-up paint
because there are you know a few um
little chips here and there that need
doing but there's no point doing that
yet uh until the owner is ready to pick
the car up so so what we're going to do
now is we're going to go and have a look
at it and I'm just going to go through
everything I've done um just to refresh
your memories it's actually been raining
outside so we can't go into too much
detail sort of on the inside because
it'll get wet but um yeah let's go and
have a look at it see you in a bit
bye would you believe it it stopped
raining anyway funny old weather we ring
at the moment you know it rains and it
stops it rains and it stops anyway Let's
uh let's go through to the front of the
house and
there she is all done um the latest Saga
um that we had was the front wheels so
you may remember that um I fitted
coilovers cuz it was too high put the
coilover well fitted lowering springs
too low got some coilovers fitted them
perfect test drove the car um horrendous
rubbing in The Archers went back to
basics and I really realized that the
front tires that were on this car were
completely wrong completely wrong
profile in fact the profile and for
those of you who don't know that's this
bit right was actually higher at the
front than the
rear and the thickness of the tires was
far too thin for the wheel that is there
so
anyway got some uh part Wars got some
ones that are the right size now they're
the right profile there 10 C oh sorry 10
mm uh slightly thinner than my ones here
which I've just had actually brand new
ones put on um but yeah so now we've got
the right tires and the problem was with
the tires is because this profile was so
high when the wheel turned you can
imagine it's like a tractor it was
catching on the Arches anyway so got the
new tires on Arch rub was better but not
not
brilliant then I realized that these
wheels actually needed to be spaced out
more right they were too sunken in in
the Arches I compared them to mine you
know I know it's not never going to be
exactly the same but mine if you look at
the fronts you can see down the bottom
here how much of the tire sticks out
there that wasn't the case on this one
so it had to space the wheels out right
and because the wheels were spaced out
further when they turned they missed the
uh the inside of the uh of the arch or
so I thought so what we can see now here
is we've got a 10 mil shim here we've
already got a spacer because these
particular wheels these are Oz Wheels I
think their offset is very low or very
high or you can see here there is no
actual depth to the wheel here so what
we have here now is basically a 40 mil
spacer right now I would recommend when
this goes back to the owner and or
whoever actually ends up um owning the
car to actually change that spacer to be
a one solid 40 mil one or change the
wheels uh with a you know with the right
offset if you want to know what the
right offset is get in contact because I
have on my car the offset I designed so
we don't need any spaces whatsoever so
um I thought that' be the end of the art
rubbing it was for the passenger side
but
then after test driving it um when I
turned right on the driver's side it was
still rubbing right when we were sort of
going up a slope so when I was pulling
onto the drive here it rubbed had a
looked worked out what it was so
basically below here inside the arch is
the fuel filter okay uh it's just like a
box it's like um sort of a rectangular
box and it sits inside the arch here
that had been sort of moved down and
almost forward a
bit um I don't think you need to do that
so what I've managed to do is I managed
to reposition it back how it was
standard I I didn't move it on this car
I didn't move it on that car I've never
moved it on my cars and I don't think
you need to move it um I had to zip tie
the connectors to it back so the wheel
wouldn't catch and then with the arch
liner everything is good so now we've
got no rubbing in normal driving mode or
going up slopes obviously with these
cars because you are putting bigger
wheels on um full lock you have to be a
bit careful you're going to have a
little bit of arch line of rubbing front
and back but nothing you know it's
touching the arch line it's just PL
plastic so it's okay as long as you take
it slow um right so we got the front of
the car sorted what have we uh let's
summarize what we've done on this car so
where do I
start okay let's start the front okay so
um headlights completely taken out
redone reput in place and sitting
properly nice and secure all these front
grills have been made and bonded in
number plate plin in place number plate
on built an under bumper
cover
um the drls um have been uh we've used
the proper frames they're bonded to the
inside of the bumper so they don't move
but they're easy to take out should you
ever a need to we've got the right
indicators now so you can see here the
RS indicators have an extra curve in
there they all fit um we got new shark
vents um they have been uh trimmed up
bonded in properly so now they don't
wobble I've basically inside here I had
to reposition the fuel flap um the pipe
so this would shut properly so that's
all done um side skirts are uh been
taken off um they do need repainting but
they've been um cut heated and bended
into the correct shape and attached yeah
they're actually satin at the moment
they don't look too bad in the brain the
front we still need to get that painted
but I'm not going to do that any body
shot can do that um we took these grills
out we I say we are
[Laughter]
me I didn't have a team of people
helping me anyway um we took these out
painted behind them black you know
that's the in that's the other side of
the uh the arch liner for the rear
painted that black so you can't see it
it was gray before um completely remade
or completely made the arch liners for
the this part for the rear that's all
been redone that's all done it's all
painted black everything's blacked out
behind here made all the arch liners
you've got a grill at this bit here you
can probably just see that maybe you
can't but yeah oh there there you go you
can see there's a bit of the grill so
you got a grill that's under this
section so you can see through lets a
bit of air through don't know whether
that makes any difference but yeah so um
that's obviously been done on both sides
at the rear of the car again basically
everything's been redone took the lights
out redone all the wiring fitted this
well made this Grill sprayed all the
actual trim panels black fitted it in we
got this basically redone in satin black
cuz it was gloss black to start with
these uh these holes I cut out and I put
grills in and then covered with flashing
tape to stop the water coming through
redone the third brake light wiring
restuck these on because they would come
off one of them came off in my hand um
what else obviously the rear window has
been put taken out and then restuck back
in we've got Seals All Along here to
stop the water coming in of course
completely
redid the door windows so now they
actually shut they line up put in these
uh can't what they're called now drip
rails yeah these drip rails from the
Cayman they're all now in there now so
the window tucks in nicely here made
extra trim panels here that fit in to
then make it look like it's uh it's
seamless um new windscreen
wipers because the others were a bit
tired resprayed the Scuttle
cover
um what else what else I think that's
pretty much it for the outside
a lot of stuff has been done behind the
scenes or underneath that you can't
actually sort of see but you know that
it's been done and
it so underneath here all the wiring is
done here we have all the canvas eror
councellors they all work underneath
here now um this all looks very standard
and Factory um blacked out everything
the Bonnet underneath the bonnet's been
blacked out we've put in some uh extra
lighting there um yeah it just sort of
looks Factory um we've got this panel
here which houses the uh the original
DVD and satinav um players we had to
keep them because we've changed the
radio in the car to be an aftermarket
one but the way the Porsche system is
set up you still need to have them
connected um let's go and have a
look at inside
so basically yeah what have we what we
done here brand new door not brand new
but new door cards cuz the other ones
had yellow paint on um completely
replaced all of these seals because they
were yellow and uh they were cut in half
um yeah everything I've had all of this
carpet out completely dried it all out
oops I accidentally locked
it um yeah completely stripped this
whole interior dried everything off um
painted anything that was black and
plastic got a lick of satin black um
painted the uh the center console here
cuz these this used to be a gray color
this uh actually we haven't got any of
that color oh yeah see in a steering
wheel here that dark gray that's what
used to they used to be that color
replac the switches on here because they
were looking tired new
radio um with Bluetooth and all of that
new Gear New Gear
Gator
um dashboard there is all pretty
standard as it was before different
steering wheel got the sport steering
wheel I had a spare one of them so I've
put that on um and yeah so it just looks
like a normal car nothing exciting but
you know it just looks finished um even
if I do say so myself and then of course
at the rear we've all seen what I do at
the rear of these cars basically parcel
shelf uh C pillar trims B pillar trims
the roof is all covered in carpet seems
ages ago since I did all of this to be
fair and yeah it all looks sort of just
normal and um it's just usable I
suppose nothing really much to do on it
um at all it's just sort of done um and
yeah
so so what happens now well I'm going to
move this car now to a top secret
location in storage um my beautiful wife
will be happy to uh get her drive back
so I can put my other car on the drive
and not in the road um yeah so just
going to um go and store it and uh and
wait for for the owner to uh settle the
bill and then hopefully he can enjoy it
um you know in the summer if the weather
actually ever impr improves so uh so
yeah I'm I'm exhausted um but pleased
I'm pleased it's done would I do another
one maybe not and while I'm working
maybe when I've retired which will be a
few years uh maybe I'll do another one
but yeah I think uh my brownie points is
massively in deficit at the moment so I
need to get that at least less of a
deficit and maybe flat or even a surplus
got a few for the outside kitchen but uh
you know that was quickly uh quickly
erased
uh anyway I'm blabbering on I better go
um this Sunday's Father's Day in the UK
and I'm going to a car show I'm going to
motorfest which is in Essex so I'm
really looking forward to that I'm going
to take the white one going with a group
I'll do a separate video on it anyway
but I'm really excited really looking
forward to seeing it and you know
modified cars and spending time and
meeting new people because that's what
it's all about anyway I better go got to
go and stick this in the storage place
so take care everyone lovely to see you
and I'll see you on the next video see
you later everyone
