[Music]
dear friends today I'm going to start by
telling you about three phenomena that
actually touch on your unconscious
appreciation of
Harmony first I'll start with the
garden if you see the garden you see a
VI vanty of plants and
flowers and these plants and flowers are
seamlessly harmonized into one with
different colors different shapes and
different sizes that diverse nature
actually come together to make it what
we all call and appreciate as a
garden second a
symphony the orchestra has
different
instruments that produce different
sounds different Melody and different
Rhythm but each on itself cannot Just
Produce what you call an
orchestra it's the combination or the
interplay or of all of them that give us
that beautiful orchestra that will give
an Applause
for and the third my favorite
is and has to do with the rainbow the
rainbow is an age-old beauty of wonder
that has transcended thousands of years
and if you look at the rainbow each of
them are unique colors distinct
colors but they're just colors
except they come together and compliment
each other and are a
rainbow so these three distinct
phenomena actually remind me and
motivate me about
diversity and these three phenomenon are
actually metaphors for the issue of
diversity and they also remind us of how
we are our differences as human beings
as differences as a people are
differences in workplaces
diversity is actually when we have
different individuals with different
strengths different sexual orientation
it doesn't matter where you come from it
doesn't matter what you speak it doesn't
matter your accent it doesn't matter
your country doesn't matter your
religious obligation it's
getting respect
value
and um respect and value for what you
always do at workplace so when you have
a diverse environment you see that
Innovation prospers creativity prospers
and then there's respect and your voice
is heard diversity actually makes people
very happy and collaborate diversity is
actually powered by today's internet
world where you just have uh phones of
Def fingertips you're from um Yemen you
know what's happening in in India for
instance and then you appreciate what
these things happen and then you
harmonize and actually respect each
other at a workspace
environment you would always want to
most people want to be in a place where
they are respected and their values are
respected and they are heard and their
voices are also respected and when you
have that kind of environment you
naturally be happy people are happier
when they have an environment where
people
understand them and just listen to them
you mustn't necessarily actually take
what I say but you could actually listen
to what I say and that's
diversity whether I have a different
sexual orientation or a different
religion it doesn't matter it's just the
strength we've heard reports that have
told us that in a diverse environment
companies that have diversity and
cultural differences in their
environment M are 33% more likely to be
profitable and have social
impact and why is it important at this
day and age because diversity is a buzz
word you've heard and it's an anchor for
three major words equality diversity and
inclusion you must have heard of
EDI now EDI is how we are and how we
behave in a workpace environment M and
so what is diversity and how does it
concern us with the
Earth diversity why it concerns the
Earth and human beings is because there
are scientific evidences that we are
molecularly attached to our environment
the
Earth we are actually tied with our
signatures are signatures and Footprints
are everywhere in the environment and it
shows that we connected to our
environment the earth and the
planet but the challenge
is there's scientific
evidence that the Earth is in
crisis the issue of climate change can
never ever be overemphasized
today the intergovernmental panel on
climate change 2021 report says climate
change is a global crisis that affects
all of humanity
everybody and what causes climate change
it's
actually carbon emissions and our
Footprints human activities over
thousands of
years and this has shown that the Earth
is getting warmer and warmer every day
and these are irrefutable evidences that
we have to do something about and why is
it getting warmer and warmer every day
because of human activities over time
what are these human activities these
human activities are
industrializations it's um how we
generate power and how we do things how
we build how we modernize over time and
one of the culprits of this
system of climate change and
accelerating heat in the atmosphere it's
man it's man's
activity
appr Footprints of our activities have
generated carbon over time and if you
look at this you find out that from
power to building to Transportation are
actually powered by fossil foil and
these activities over time have affected
and increase the temperatures over time
we're at a point that this carbon
emission s are threatening livelihoods
in different parts of the world and man
is man's livelihood is
threatened so today we are going to
actually have to think of doing things
differently from the past the past had
issues of where the Earth has been the
Earth has been exploited by extraction
and waste a lot of man's system at the
time
after especially the Industrial
Revolution if you remember had a lot of
of of of Power by fossil Fu and this
fossil fuil over time has been the one
that powered the economy at that time do
I think they were wrong I don't think
they were wrong I think that was the
knowledge of the time that's what they
knew and that's how civilization
advanced and that wasn't anything bad
and it was actually labor intensive it
was actually very very difficult and it
was actually take take take and it was
actually showing that the economy was
better than the environment people
actually thought it was mutually
exclusive but today we're finding out
reasons to believe that it's not
actually Mally exclusive or it's
together and it's integrated today we
are thinking of how we could Transit
from that kind of thinking to a new way
of thinking today we're thinking of how
life and human beings will think
secularly people will think of restoring
the environment people think of
recycling people will think of
replenishing because we have an
appointment with Destiny at that time
they were their thinking was
civilization at our time our thinking is
how how to be sustainable and how to
keep a better world for the future yet
unborn and how we're going to power this
of course everybody's heard of renewable
energy Technologies renewable energy
sources solar wind power biofuels that's
the technology that is going to power
the future for us to be able to reduce
human activity so that our ecosystems
our biosphere can be comfortable for you
and I and the future yet un born and
today we're going to use a lot of
Technology we know technology has
advanced more than ever before and how
are this technological equipment and
systems going to answer the future or
the the the the the future that we are
about to come into and now we also know
that because at the time it was mutually
exclusive as I said the economy and the
environment today we're finding out the
economy and the environment are
integrated and they are mutually in
Alliance with each other you can't
separate one from the other people's
livelihoods depend on this and if we are
about to stop the kind of Crisis we've
experienced around the world today if
you go if you if you if if you are on TV
on the internet you see different crisis
different floods Cyclones hurricanes
farming droughts in different parts of
the world different countries have
experienced this different countries
have suffered this different countries
have not been able to adapt to these
changes and why is that so because we've
been always thinking nortic in nature
the approach was generaliz everybody
thought this is how it should be um but
today we're finding out that with the
floods in say India China Brazil the
heat waves that killed people in Europe
in 2002 it shows us that things that if
we think in silos if we think
individually if we think as Nations as
people different we would be able to
solve the issues of climate change today
coral reefs are bleaching in different
parts of the world especially uh
communities that are dependent on Co
coral reefs for survival the health of
those coral reefs if they were very
healthy this they actually save 75% of
the W wave energy that comes in to
destroy this Coral communities so it's
pertinent that we have indigenous people
that would think think and and would
take their knowledge borrow from them
and think of how to solve this climate
issue today they are wildfires
everywhere today these evidences are
irrefutable and they are real and then
we cannot change these things but today
the good news is as these things have
touched every single part of the
continent there is a solution there are
many solutions there are vared solutions
but in my opinion
these Solutions have to do with
everybody thinking together everybody
bringing their own ideas together
everybody bringing their own experiences
together into one because indigenous
peoples have actually been left out from
this kind of thinking so let's take an
instance and take the world and look at
each of the continents as human beings
or each of the continents are different
colors we can't make that rainbow we
want to make we can't have those that
flight we want to have to have a
sustainable future to reach Net Zero all
we can do is harness all our Collective
thinking all the way we think all our
ideas all our Technologies and harness
them to one to be able to solve this
issue another thing we I I tght when I
was um um um I'm making my slides was
the issue of um um um the Titanic if you
remember the Titanic or the movie in
1912 April 15 thereabouts a lot of
people thought it would not sink
remember and then at at in the movie
there were there were the first class
carbing and the economy but when the
catastrophe happened everybody was
struggling for a boat but if they had
all thought of it their conspiracy
theories that said more people would
have been saved if they had just
organized themselves and be save but
today our luck unlike the Titanic that
didn't have warning signals today we
have warning signals science is the
warning signal science and data has told
us that this is different something is
about to happen and when it happens
there are differences between the rich
and the poor there are differences
between if you notice the developed
countries and the underdeveloped
countries right there are differences
between educated people people and
non-educated people in this world today
but the climate crisis has no
differences the climate crisis has no
borders the climate crisis is consuming
each and everybody if everybody doesn't
think so what do we do now we shouldn't
be like um uh Natalia in a book I read
in climate Justice by um Mary Robinson
uh un United Nations Envoy for climate
change former president of um um Ireland
she wrote a nice book and there was a
character there her name is Natalia
Natalia was just an ordinary person a
beauty therapist and heard about climate
change but she always thought oh I mean
this is just not possible and everything
until in Sydney in Australia the floods
hit and it affected her and then she
started thinking so what are we going to
do together how our idea is going to
take flight I have a I have a proposal
and my proposal is that for us to talk
about climate resilience climate
adaptation there must be to talk of
climate Justice and climate Justice is
an anchor for every other person
thinking alike but not thinking not
thinking not thinking the same but
actually bringing these indigenous
people how do they survive how do they
do these things and there must be a talk
about just transitions because if we do
not stop climate just if we do not talk
together in big boards and come together
and bring people's ideas together
there's going to be a challenge the
challenge is we be making solutions for
Canada and then there's a flood because
some part of the Earth was leaking and
you didn't think of it so you cannot
isolate yourselves we cannot isolate
ourselves from each other we have to
think together and that's what brings
our diversity into one perspective today
we have to think as one we have to bring
bring the tables together we have to
think of a just transition how do we
think of a just transition the just
transition has to do with people coming
together and bringing actually what you
really think IND ideographic tendency
and an ideographic approach to how we're
going to solve this issue together and
what can you do individually you could
do something about Energy Efficiency how
much is your light bill how often do you
switch off your lights how often do have
you thought of planting a tree how often
have you raised your voice to say
something about climate change and
together when we do these things we can
be a big giant rainbow and solve the
climate issue together thank you
[Applause]
