Outlines

Transcripts
Lately one thing is really funny
As you all know, I have always been labeled as a "Da Waixuan" (i.e., a big propagandist) on the Internet ("Da Waixuan" is part of the "Grand External Propaganda Strategy" initiated in 2009 by the CCP)
They say words like "Hu Xijin inside China and Wang Zhian outside China" (Hu Xijin "has been accused by the western media of being a political propagandist" according to Wikipedia)
these two people echo each other
that they are both representatives of "Da Waixuan"
Fang Zhouzi told me so on the Internet before
Fang Zhouzi has a grudge against me
because I took away his job for life
Of course lots of people agree with him
thinking that I'm a Da Waixuan
But recently these people on the Internet who kept saying that I'm a Da Waixuan
were also labeled by the revolutionary masses as Da Waixuan
So, I think this is really funny
It's a bit like the "Cultural Revolution"
that every day they catch spies, traitors, capitalists, and counter-revolutionaries
but in the end, they themselves became spies and counter-revolutionaries being caught by others
Your own logic eventually went to your opposite side
I think this is full of humor
So, today I especially want to talk about the topic "Da Waixuan"
Because on Twitter as well, in the circle of overseas Chinese
many people are keen to discuss who are Da Waixuan and what a Da Waixuan is like
today I talk about this topic
First of all, I want to say the reasons why those people think I'm a Da Waixuan
are nothing but of these few aspects
The first reason is that I was from China Central Television (CCTV), that's my original sin
You have worked for CCTV for nearly 20 years, how can you not be a Da Waixuan?
Then you quit your job and worked for a newspaper for 2 years
and then you went overseas, suspicious
So some people say, at that time the purpose of banning me that made me lose millions of Chinese Yuan a year
the purpose is to play "a two-man act" (a type of Chinese folk art, with one speaking/singing while hiding behind the other who does the acting)
so I can infiltrate the overseas forces of pro-democracy movement and disintegrate the overseas pro-democracy movement
in this case, you have to suffer a bit beforehand
like in that movie "Steel Soldier" (a Chinese war movie filmed in 1950)
or in other words, when you want someone to infiltrate the enemy
you have to beat that person first
Like Yang Zirong went up the Tiger Mountain
when the bandits inspected him, they also had to inspect his contact codes
they even asked him to kill the revolutionary masses
to show his loyalty
so the purpose they banned me
is to let me break into the overseas forces of pro-democracy movement
This is the first reason
The second reason is that I did not shout reactionary slogans online
For example, everyday people shout "Down with of the Communist Party" when mentioning it
besides, they call the Communist Party "the Communist bandit"
I still call it "the CCP", and sometimes even call it "the Chinese Communist Party"
Another example, I call "Lao Mao" (i.e., Chairman Mao), while others call him "Cured meat"
Xi Jinping, others call him "Xi Baozi" ("Baozi" is a very common Chinese bun)
why do you call him "Xi Jinping"?
Because if you call "Xi Jinping" on the overseas platforms
to put it bluntly, it means that you're actually a Da Waixuan
because you dare not call him "Xi Baozi"
"Lao Mao", why don't you call him "Cured meat"?
Why do you call him nothing but "Lao Mao"?
This is the second reason
The third reason is that
sometimes your words seem to be beneficial to the Communist Party
for example, you say that the Chinese economy can catch up with the US
that China's high-speed rail construction is quite good
Look, what we're talking about
We are all talking that, whatever is beneficial to the Communist Party, we cannot mention
whatever the Communist Party says real, we assume that it's fake
The "Two Whatevers"
But what about you? you failed the loyalty test
you said something beneficial to the Communist Party
aren't you a Da Waixuan?
This is the third aspect
The fourth aspect is that
you see, although it may be true that he was banned
his words leave some leeway as he never says never
He doesn't like to yell "You the Communist Party, we're absolutely irreconcilable"
He still leaves some leeway and wants to go back to China
For example, if the Communist Party now appoints him as Director of CCTV
he would immediately buy a plane ticket, flying back
he'll definitely not stay overseas
Basically these four reasons
I personally think we can divide them into two aspects to discuss
The first aspect is the motivation theory
such as saying that I want to go back to China
Another one is, for example, the conspiracy theory, saying that someone wants me to lurk overseas
These are the conspiracy theory and motivation theory
In fact, the motivation theory and conspiracy theory cannot be falsified
For example, about what's on my mind
how would anyone know?
About what others are thinking
I have no way to know either
So, when we discuss a problem
I personally think motivation theory is worthless
When I was on Weibo
when I was discussing with others on the Internet, I often emphasized this principle
that is, do not get into the motivation theory
because we have no way to falsify the motivation theory
This is the first point
Besides, I personally think that
for some people who have lots of connections in China
we have to be considerate
Take myself as an example
when I just left China 2 years ago
because I was thinking that I'll go back to China and I may continue to do interviews
I certainly had to leave some leeway when talking on twitter compared to now
Now I can speak my mind in so many ways
but at that time I had to take into account that if I say some words
the relevant departments will sort me out after I went back to China
so I certainly had to leave some leeway
I think this is understandable
Everyone of us, as a Chinese
may have lots of connections in China
some people have parents in China
some people have assets in China
some people work in China
some people's hometown is in China
for a variety of reasons, they can't talk whatever they want on the Internet
cannot be extreme in their words
In my eyes, these are understandable
Why?
Because if we cannot understand and empathize with the difficulties of others
then faith is meaningless to me
We all know that the Communist Party
in fact, has no bottom line in doing things, has no bottom line when persecuting people
So in this case, why do we force everyone
to go to the point where they'll be persecuted by the other party at any time?
Some people do not want to be persecuted by the other party
though he also wants to express online
So, we should respect others
So, I personally think that showing empathy for other people's difficulties
is a very important sign of whether a person is kind or not
If a person is kind enough, then he/she can understand others' difficulties
Instead, if you replace all right and wrong with political standards
you will force others to express their opinions
This is the first point
The second point is why I didn't shout those slogans like "Down with of the Communist Party"
Although now I say that I have no plans to go back to China
I see the issue like this
that is, it's meaningless to shout any slogan
Can you overthrow the Communist Party by shouting "Down with of the Communist Party"?
You have been shouting overseas for decades, and the Communist Party has not fallen
what is the value of shouting such extreme slogans other than self-amusement?
For me, it has no value
The other thing is who would benefit from what you say
This question actually is not in my scope
Why?
Because as a journalist
I think the most important criterion is whether it's a fact or not
If it's a fact, then we should tell it
If it's not a fact, then we should ignore it
or tell people it's not a fact
As for who benefits from this fact
it should not be the standard a journalist considers
Let me give you an example
for example, when I just began using twitter
I was still in China back then
I saw lots of people on Twitter saying that the Three Gorges Dam is about to collapse
Every year when the rainy season comes, some people would say
damn, the Three Gorges Dam is about to collapse
What's their reason?
They say that the Three Gorges Dam
because when building this project, the Communist Party
certainly looted people's properties, there's certainly corruption
the quality of this project can't be good
the Three Gorges Dam certainly will collapse one day, sooner or later
either this year or next year
I thought it ridiculous when I saw these posts
Why?
Because I did an interview when the Three Gorges Dam was under construction
Its chief designer is Lu Youmei
I also interviewed him
I know that the Three Gorges Dam won't collapse
Should the Three Gorges Dam itself be built?
There is indeed a huge controversy in China
for example, people say that it has environmental impact, etc.
But if you say that the Three Gorges Dam is about to collapse, in my opinion, this's extremely ridiculous
Why?
Because it's not a fact
What's the value of spreading such information that isn't a fact?
Do you think that spreading such information can really threaten the Communist Party's governance?
I don't think so
So, in my opinion, it doesn't really matter who benefits from the information
If you spread fake news
it's funny enough by itself
So, in my opinion, it's that the standard of discussion
shouldn't consider at all who benefits from it
rather, discussions should only be based on facts and logic
This is the standard about discussions I stick to online
I am willing to adhere to this principle no matter it's inside or outside China
This is my own discussion
Next up we'll discuss
does the Communist Party have any Da Waixuan overseas?
If there are Da Waixuan, what's the criterion of being a Da Waixuan?
I personally think that first of all there is Da Waixuan, no doubt
In my opinion, there is only one criterion of being a Da Waixuan
Did you take money from Communist Party?
We all know that there is one criterion for hosting shows on YouTube
that is, if your show was made by someone paying you to make it
you must display these words on your video
"This is a paid show, and there is paid content"
What does "paid content" mean?
It's reminding the viewer that someone paid for your content
so the content of your show may have an interest with that person
This is the principle of YouTube, as long as you display it clearly, you can still host
same with Twitter
These words are displayed on the YouTube shows of China's Xinhua News Agency and People's Daily
including Hu Xijin
which means these media are funded by the Chinese government
Why?
Because they have an interest
think twice over what they say
I personally think that this is the criterion of Da Waixuan
Did you take the money?
If you took money from the Chinese government (then you are a Da Waixuan)
Well, the Chinese government has established many such propaganda organizations overseas
We all know that, for example, there are many fake foreign media
The World Journal, Nouvelles d'Europe, The China Press, Ta Kung Pao, South China Morning Post
These newspapers appear to be foreign media
but actually are all funded by the Chinese government
So, the purpose of the Chinese government investing in many such media
in fact, is to create an overseas media matrix that supports the CCP
because it has needs
Its needs are mainly in two aspects
The first aspect is to create a need for all parties to come to China
We all know that during the "Nineteenth National Congress" of the CCP
there came a piece of very interesting news
During the press conference, at that time foreign media was still allowed to ask questions
there was this female reporter in the press conference
who was Executive Director of "AMTV News (American Multimedia Television USA)"
her name is Zhang Huijun, and she kept asking questions
Next to Zhang, there was a domestic female reporter who cannot put up with it any longer
she began to roll eyes, kept rolling eyes
The two of them, one in a red suit and one in blue
and this scene was broadcast live
As a result, it blew up all of a sudden
Finally, the media found out that the agency Zhang Huijun
works for which is called "AMTV News"
is actually a fake foreign media
Although the TV station is called "AMTV News"
there may be no more than 100 people in total in the US
its entire TV station may only have 3 to 5 people
and it's fully supported by the Chinese capital
There are many organizations like this
When the CCP engages in some major activities in China
it wants to invite some foreign media to come
but if it's all CNN and BBC, they won't listen to the CCP
they would ask questions that CCP doesn't like
so if you want to create a scene where foreign media can ask questions
while you want to be in control, then what could you do?
So, the CCP invests in fake foreign media overseas
Just that the names of these foreign media are big
maybe the media actually has only 1 person
for example, The World Journal, The China Press
their title sounds very big
Go visit many Chinese communities around the world and you'll see that
those news organizations with particularly big titles
may actually have only 1 or 2 people
Quite a few such media in Japan as well. There are more than 20 Chinese-language media in Japan
Their names are all very big, but usually there's only 1 person
We also discussed the name when we started this organization
I once thought we might just call it the "Cosmos News Service"
because the "World Journal" has already been taken
It can't be bigger, if bigger, then it must be the cosmos
and "solar system" sounds not interesting
just call it cosmos, "Cosmos News Service", it sounds absolutely high-end
Xinhua News Agency and People's Daily sound like little brothers compared to ours
The Associated Press or something, they sound like our affiliates
giving people that feeling
Later, I said this isn't ok as "cosmos" is like that cigarette brand "Yuzhou" at first glance ("Yuzhou" means "cosmos" in Chinese, "Yuzhou" cigarette is an old brand which appears to be low-end)
I said it should be called "Mars Service", "Mars Service" is a pun
Why? Where there is huoxing (a spark), there we go report ("huoxing" means "spark" and "Mars" in Chinese)
Another thing, Musk will immigrate to Mars soon
Mars will be the second home of mankind
and looking at the earth from the standpoint of Mars couldn't be more objective
Later, we did not adopt this plan
it's still called "Wang Sir's News Talk". Why?
Just because those terms are too much like Da Waixuan
The characteristic of Da Waixuan is that the name is infinite, but in fact it has only 1 person
There are also some Chinese news agencies in Japan. I don't call the roll here
In fact, only 1 works there, swindling money
I personally think there are this kind of Chinese groups all over the world
They either take money directly from the CCP
or they do this in order to do business in China
They use this type of big title to deceive Chinese living in China
because Chinese people especially recognize titles
As soon as they hear "World Journal", they would assume that it must be a large-scale newspaper
its influence must be huge, otherwise how dare you call it “World Journal”?
but in fact, maybe those "World Journal"s are the world of only two people
This is one purpose
The second purpose is, why does the CCP invest in fake foreign media?
Because it tries to spread some fake news
We all know that last year between China and the US
when everyone is arguing about where the virus came from
domestic newspapers quoted a foreign media report
saying that a Swiss scientist named Wilson Edwards spoke on the Internet that
the US has been cracking down on scientists who are working in the first phase of virus origin-tracing
in fact, it means that this virus is caused by you Americans
and then in the process of origin-tracing, it was discovered that you Americans did it
so you Americans started to oppress us
It began to be widely reposted in China
This Wilson Edwards is said to be a Swiss scientist
As a result, within a few days, the Swiss embassy in China issued a statement
saying that after checking, there's no man named Wilson Edwards in Switzerland
no such person
Secondly, there are no articles under the name of Wilson Edwards in academic journals either
Thirdly, this Twitter account tweeted only this 1 post after 3 days of registration
We think that the Twitter account may not be registered for social needs
Later, we found out that Wilson Edwards' account must be fake
it was some Chinese official media who did this
After creating this fake account, they sent that piece of fake news
A Chinese website in Fiji with its mobile app called South Pacific News
When you hear its name, the title is so big
think about it, the South Pacific even includes the US
This app reposted a newspaper in English language
and then the People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, and Global Times in China all started to repost it
This is to deliberately spread some fake news to China
This is also one of the purposes of these fake foreign media
But for publicity
in fact, these big publicity agencies are not very useful, as we all know
but they're not totally useless
because there are a group of overseas Chinese who read The World Journal, The China Press
but I think they're the minority
There're also some following self-media
for example, on YouTube, YouTubers like Zheng Guocheng
He bypassed the Great Firewall in China and started to work as a self-media on YouTube
think about that being able to bypass the Great Firewall could be charged with "Picking quarrels and provoking trouble"
and he could still host shows on YouTube
However, he harshly criticizes the US, Japan, and Taiwan in almost all of his shows
of course, sometimes he harshly criticizes me too
But the accounts of these "little pinkos" ("little pinko" means a fan of the CCP)
must have been tacitly approved and supported by the relevant departments of the CCP
otherwise, they would have been caught
But once Zheng Guocheng drank too much
he accidentally exposed his true humanity after drinking too much
He said that his own family member was sorted out for bypassing the Great Firewall
and then he started yelling that
on the one hand, these people harshly criticize the US every day
on the other hand, they send their children to the US
Ordinary people were sentenced to 3 years for stealing something
but they (government officials), after embezzling hundreds of millions, were also sentenced to 3 years
Where's the justice?
He drank too much, and it was broadcast live on the Internet that day
He freaked out the next day and then deleted it
After it was deleted, it actually spread all over the Internet
The patriotic youth Zheng Guocheng turned against the CCP
Then his account was closed for a few months
don't know how he showed his loyalty to have it slowly recovered
But the account recovery is useless
What I mean is that
people like him, you know very clearly that he took the money
My purpose of saying these is just that
do not say a person is a Da Waixuan unless there is evidence
to prove that this person took the money, so I think he is a Da Waixuan
If you don't have any evidence to prove that this person took the money
in fact, we cannot easily say that a person is a Da Waixuan
It doesn't matter whether what this person says is actually good or bad for the CCP
I don't think that's the standard for examining the problem
We have a real discussion in such an environment of freedom of speech
and to me the issues should be discussed based only on facts and logic
I can even say that, even if the other party is a Da Waixuan, so what?
In an environment of freedom of speech
even if the other party is really a propagandist, you can still defeat him if you have confidence
For example, there are Maoists in the US
they just believe in Lao Mao's stuff
Red Guards, things like that, and they give you a red book
But in an environment of adequate freedom of speech
in fact, they cannot have a huge impact
no harm to the American society
You can express what you want to express
as long as you don't promote violence
don't incite others to carry guns to attack the White House, you can do whatever you want
So, I think that in an environment of freedom of speech
people should have the confidence
that under full competition of information
fact-telling, reasoning, truth-telling
will definitely defeat false propaganda
If you don't even have this confidence
how can you compete with them?
This is a very important point
In the end I want to say
Actually, I think lots of people overseas
You see they harshly criticize the CCP every day, in reverse, they're actually the CCP's Da Waixuan
What does this mean?
These people are so extreme
they go against communism through spreading rumors and defamation
In fact, for many ordinary people in China
it drove them all to the side of the Communist Party
Like what I said at the beginning, when I just began to use twitter
I noticed that among those anti-communist people online, one thing is their extreme discourse
The second thing the kind of hostility they show towards their opposing forces
Another thing is that they spare no effort to spread rumors
such as 90 million people quit the CCP, the Three Gorges Dam is about to collapse
China's economy is about to collapse
spreading rumors online like this
They scared most people away, including me
At that time I just thought these people unreasonable
Although when living in China, many people
think that the CCP is bad
restricting freedom of speech, no human rights, suppressing dissidents
We all know that, how could people living in China do not know?
But comparing the CCP with some overseas Chinese
people found that these people are even more extreme than the CCP
Think about what they said online
that kind of murderous look when facing different opinions
In my own experience
against the CCP, I ran from China
the CCP hasn't taken any measures against me yet, but you see lots of people
are about to make death threats against me
Then think about it, for many ordinary people
people who don't have strong political demands
they would feel terrible
Although we say that the CCP isn't good, but compared with these people
they feel as if the CCP is better than them
So, between two rotten apples
at least the CCP this rotten apple has a little more bottom line than them
These people actually pushed most of the
moderate and rational ordinary people to the side of the CCP
I'm not talking about myself, in fact, many ordinary people in China
hold this common feeling towards these people
So why do I insist on reasoning online?
Reasoning with facts and logic
in my opinion, the first point I want to emphasize is that shouting slogans is useless
Secondly, shouting extreme slogans
would not only useless, but it would also scare moderate ordinary people away
Only by telling facts, logic, and reasons
can we win more people's support for us
can people truly realize what the problem is with
the CCP ruling clique
then people would firmly believe those who truly oppose the CCP
are a healthier force when they take its place someday
I am willing to work hard for this kind of job
I also hope that our overseas Chinese living in an environment of freedom of speech
to become this kind of person
to feel comfortable with this kind of person, and to become a person who's willing to work hard for such rules
Let me call it a day
I don't care if they call me "Da Waixuan" or not
As for them being labeled as "Da Waixuan", well, they deserve it
