Highlights
Prepositions of time in, on, and at are essential for indicating when something happens.
A preposition is a small word that shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence.
Use 'in' before a month to indicate when something occurs, such as 'in July'.
The four seasons in English are spring, summer, autumn (British English) or fall (American English), and winter.
Use 'in' before a season to talk about the general time, like 'in the winter'.
When discussing a specific year, use 'in' followed by the year, such as 'in 2015'.
For parts of the day, use 'in the morning', 'in the afternoon', and 'in the evening'.
Use 'on' before the day of the week for specific events, like 'on Friday' for a one-time meeting.
For regular events, use 'on' with the plural form of the day, e.g., 'on Mondays' for a weekly event.
Use 'on' before a specific date, such as 'on March the 21st'.
Preposition 'on' is used before special days like 'on Christmas Day'.
Use 'at' for specific times, like 'at 3 o'clock' or 'at 4 p.m.'.
For festivals or special times of the year, use 'at', but 'on' for specific days within the festival.
Use 'at the weekend' for general reference to weekends, but 'on' for specific days like 'on Saturday'.
The preposition 'at' is used at the beginning or end of a period, such as 'at the beginning of the meeting'.
Choose between 'at night' for general reference and 'in the night' for specific moments during the night.

hello this is Andrew from crown Academy
of English today's lesson is about
prepositions of time in on and art so
what is a preposition well a preposition
is a small word before a noun or pronoun
examples in on at after to and with and
of course there are many others an
example sentence I'm going to London in
July so in this is the preposition and
this is the noun prepositions show the
relationship between a noun or pronoun
with other words in a sentence so in
this sentence the preposition in shows
the relationship between July and the
rest of the sentence okay so there is a
link this links to two parts of the
sentence with the noun so in this lesson
you will learn how to use two following
prepositions of time in on and out and a
preposition of time indicates when
something happens so let's look at in in
plus a month so here are the 12 months
in English January February March April
May June July August September October
November and December so when we want to
say that something occurs
it happens in a we say in a month
example we always go to New York in
March in March my birthday is in
December in December so when we talk
about a month we always use a
preposition in in plus a month in plus a
season so in English the four seasons
are spring summer autumn and winter
notice that we do not write them with a
capital letter we start each season with
a normal small lowercase letter autumn
is British English and fall is American
English and the other three are the same
example Jane often go skiing in the
winter in the winter I love going to
Paris in the spring in the spring okay
so in plus the season in plus the year
so when we are discussing the year then
we use the preposition in example they
got married in 2015 in 2015
Marc was born in 1984 in 1984 not at not
on but in in
of a year in plus part of the day
example in the morning in the afternoon
and in the evening example I'll wash the
car in the morning we had a meeting in
the afternoon in the afternoon we do not
say on the afternoon we do not say at
the afternoon no we say in the afternoon
now let's look at the preposition on so
when do we use on well on plus the day
of the week so here are the seven days
of the week Monday Tuesday Wednesday
Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday I
notice with the days of the week we
always write them with a capital letter
the first letter is always a capital
letter example well we have an extra
rule in fact if the event is a unique
one-time event specific event then the
day of the week is singular I have a
meeting with my manager on Friday I have
a meeting with my manager on Friday so
when we say this this sentence means
only next Friday we're discussing one
specific Friday example
the bank is closed on Monday again since
Monday here is singular we are only
discussing one particular Monday so in
this context we're talking about only
next Monday
now if the event is a regular event then
the day of the week is plural look at
the difference same sentence I have a
meeting with my manager on Fridays
Fridays with an S plural so hey the
meaning is different the meaning is
different we're now talking about a
regular meeting with my manager every
Friday so we're talking in general here
the bank is closed on Mondays with an S
so since we have used the plural we are
discussing a regular event every month
this means every Monday okay so very
important difference which is always the
preposition on with the day of the week
and always write it with a capital
letter on plus a date we use the
preposition on before a specific date
example I received a letter on March the
21st she was born on the 30th of April
my exam is on February 12th okay so on
plus a date
on plus a special day we use the
preposition on before a special day I
had a party on my birthday on my
birthday I visited my grandparents on
Christmas Day so Christmas Day is a
special day so we say on on Christmas
Day on my birthday what are you doing on
New Year's Day okay so a special day we
always use on now let's look at at at
plus o'clock time so a time example
let's meet at 3 o'clock we have a
meeting at 4 p.m.
at 4 p.m. the train arrives at 5:20 p.m.
at 5:20 p.m. so we always use at when
we're discussing the time so we use this
when we are making appointments or we're
organizing a meeting with somebody at 3
o'clock at plus the name of a festival
or a special time of the year I saw my
sister at Christmas so we say at
Christmas this is the festival I'm going
to New York at Easter at Easter
so here is an exception but if we refer
to a single specific day during a
festival then we use on so we've already
seen it I've already shown you this here
is another example I went to church on
Christmas Day so this is a special day
on Christmas Day so notice the
difference this is one particular day so
we use on but here we are referring to
the whole festival Christmas in general
which is several days a few days I get
lots of chocolate on Easter Sunday on
Easter Sunday because Easter Sunday is
one single specific day during Easter
but here so here we use on but here we
are just referring to the whole festival
of Easter again which lasts several days
so here we use at and here are some
other situations where we use at at the
weekend he is going to play football at
the weekend at the beginning of example
at the beginning of the meeting we
discussed recruitment at the end of at
the end of the evening we went out for a
drink at the end of the evening we went
out for a drink at night or in the night
so with the word night we have a choice
of prepositions
but the meaning is different so at night
this refers to any night in general
example I enjoy walking in Paris at
night so we're talking in general a
general situation this is our general
preference I enjoy walking in Paris at
night and in the night is different
this refers to a short specific moment
during the night so this is specific I
woke up in the night so you would
perhaps say this one morning to explain
what happened I woke up in the night so
you're talking about a specific time
last night she heard a strange noise in
the night ok so again this is a specific
moment during a specific night so this
is general and this is specific ok so
there we are that's the end I hope you
enjoyed it and here are some other
lessons which I think you'll be
interested in
