so today I'm talking about a Dodge with

the P0455 code what it is and how you go

about fixing it and so what is a Dodge

P0455 code was an EVAP system large leak

detected and what does this mean well

modern vehicles have what's called an

EVAP system that basically takes all the

gas Vapors from the gas tank and feeds

them back into the engine to get burnt

off so they don't escape into the

atmosphere and the onboard computer

isn't a problem with this mainly that

there's a leak going on and so it's

going to be troubleshooted to know why

and some possible causes well it could

be a bad gas cap or Inlet it can also be

a bad leak detection pump which can also

contain the vent valve and pressure

sensor there could be an EVAP leak could

be in the wiring could be the charcoal

canister and possibly the purge valve

and so the basics of what's going on

inside the EVAP system is that you're

gonna have the gas papers they're going

to leave the gas tank they're going to

go over to What's called the charcoal

canister and this basically stores the

gas papers until they can be sent to the

engine to get burnt off and there's

going to be some components on the

charcoal canister Dodge quite often

calls this a leak detection pump but

it's also going to contain the vent

valve and pressure sensor and quite

often this is all just can contain

inside of one package it's just inside

of one little package and it'll be

located on the charcoal canister this is

very common for dodges but keep in mind

that sometimes these components can be

separate it could depend on the Dodge on

the year and the model and things like

this and then a host is going to leave

the charcoal canister it's going to go

up to the top of the engine to what's

called a purge valve and the purge valve

basically just opens when the engine's

running so all the gas Vapors could go

in and get burnt off and then it closes

when the engine's not running so they

don't escape and so the first thing to

go and check when you get this code is

going to be the gas cap because the gas

cap is a part of the EVAP system it

needs a seal in order for it to work

properly and so basically go and check

it out be sure it's not crack damage or

anything like that be sure that it's

sealing correctly because if it's

leaking then the EVAP system is going to

be leaking but first thing you're going

to do is check out the gas cap and be

sure it looks like it's good and so the

gas cap looks good the next thing you're

going to check out is going to be this

leak detection pump which again can also

be called the vent valve and it quite

often contains the pressure sensor

that's inside of it these components can

vary a little bit on exactly how they're

laid out so it can be a good idea to go

get an EVAP diagram for your particular

Dodge for example this is a 2003 Dodge

Dakota and as you can see the leak

detection pump and vent valve is inside

the same package which is this package

right here which also contains the

pressure sensor and this is a very

common problem with the Dodge P0455 code

this is that the vent valve inside of

here gets stuck open and it causes a

leak and so the first thing to go and

check out is going to be this leak

detection pump which is usually located

on the charcoal canister which will be

up and underneath the vehicle by the gas

tank somewhere for example here's a 2005

Dodge Ram 1500 and this is the charcoal

canister right here and this is the leak

detection pump right here and so this is

going to be the first thing to go and

check out since it is a common failure

and so if you check out the gas cap and

that looks good and you check out this

leak detection pump and that looks good

then they're very likely is a leak

inside of one of these hoses somewhere

going around all these components and a

leak inside the EVAP system can be kind

of hard to spot you can go around and

examine all these hoses and be sure they

look like they're connected and not

damaged or anything like that but Elite

can be kind of hard to spot sometimes so

if you took it to a mechanic what they

would do is they take a smoke machine

and they feed smoke into the EVAP system

and then wherever the smoke come out

they know where the leak's at there is

some low-cost smoke machines on like

Amazon or Ebay I'll put a link down

below if you need one you can also make

these up yourself there's a lot of

videos on how you go about making a

smoke machine for like five ten dollars

but the next thing to do is to go around

all these hoses and components and be

sure nothing's leaking because if the

gas cap is good and the leak detection

pump is good then one of these hoses is

leaking or one of these components and

it's just gonna have to be found in

order to fix the problem and so that's
