finale of smarton 2023 in the hardware
Edition I'm super excited to bring this
video today uh as everyone knows this
smon 2024 is just around the corner I
know there are lots of questions and
doubts how to prepare what strategies to
use how to crack this Martin acon in
this massive
competition that's why I came up this
video to help clear up those doubts and
give the possible trips tricks and
strategies to use in this smart inia
aaton
2024 and to make more even more special
I'm thrilled to welcome a very special
guest onea who was the winner of smart
India aaton 2023 he's here to share his
experience and advice on how you can
stand out and succeed in this
competition and one more person AA
Thomas is a participant of smart India
aaton so he's here to clarify himself so
without wasting the time let's
[Music]
re good evening uh my name is Thomas and
I'm studing studing for B computer
science in third semester and I'm right
here to ask some questions which I'm
having for Smart in hacker so uh my
first question will be how to choose
problem like a proper actually a good
question see choosing a problem is one
of the most important aspect of making a
solution for it right so according to me
you should have a points to choose a
problem statement that first that what
technology St that you know right that
you will be implementing the problem
shap second what is your team diverse
skill set means if you're choosing a
particular problem treatement then these
are the parameters that you have to see
that if we will be able to make it
happen or not right so first thing you
should have a diverse skill set a team
with a diverse skill set right and
choosing a problem is just a thing if
you don't know AML and if you're
choosing a ofl then there is no point
that you will be able to build that
right yeah so according to technology
stack and according to the
implementation that you are having the
current technology that you are having
you can choose according to that only
yes okay so my next question is you know
how to come with a solution like
whenever we are having so many problem
statements how to come with a proper
solution okay so coming with the problem
uh coming with the solution is actually
one of the most important part because
you have to like show the solution only
right so according to me first analyzing
the problem statement is one of the most
key aspect
before making a solution right so if you
have chosen any of the problem statement
just analyze it what it wants right what
it is required and what are the
government or any of the states that has
given that problem what they require is
a past history of that problem statement
right according to that you have to
implement it right because if you uh go
into the finals then they will ask
everything every single point about what
is your problem statement you have to
explain your whole problem statment and
the solution to it that you have made
right yeah so solution is totally based
on analyzing the whole problem statement
that you have right so analyzing the
problem statement will be helping you to
make a better solution of it right
yeah okay so my next question is how to
make a proper PowerPoint presentation
see making a PowerPoint presentation is
one of the most important thing because
PP is one of the most thing that is
being seen everywhere in si right so to
make an effective PP what I follow at
that at my time was I included flowchart
diagrams right if a person is non-tick
in front of you and you have to explain
your whole project then you should have
a flowchart of it that you can explain
that person your whole project into that
small flowchart diagram right so
implementation of flowchart diagrams
secondly you should
uh you should like write the content the
PBT in a very precise manner right what
are the key factors that you are having
what are the features that you're
providing in your solution right what is
the business opportunity that you are
having what is the unique selling point
of your project that you the project the
solution that you have made so these are
the key factors that you can follow to
make a better PP and presentation yeah
so while making the presentation do we
have to you know use colors that
impresses others and also like you know
some F size and
all see
actually according to me like sh
provided PD template right you can
change the font you can change the size
but the format should remain the same
that is the whole key aspect right and
according to me if you would say your
content is one of the most important
thing that you are doing in a p because
in the main SI they only see the content
what solution you have made and what the
key factors key aspect of your solution
right so content should be very precise
and for precise content you should have
a good knowledge of problem set that you
have chosen yeah okay so my next
question is uh any tips for firsttime
participants yeah see see if you are
firsttime participants then I would
suggest you should take part in Smart in
the hon first of all right because
according to mahak is not about just
winning it's all about the learning
aspect of life right because in a
particular time frame you have to
implement a like you have to build a
whole solution in a particular time
frame right for that time frame as a
fresher don't know that much technology
at that moment but doesn't matter he
will learn new technology to implement
in the solution right he will grind
himself that yes I have to do this I
have to build a solution to it like
doesn't matter if he wins or not it's
all about your mental level your
learning aspect actually grows into it
so for the first time participants for
the beginners I would recommend that you
should go in the hypon it gives you a
great experience of life that how you
can Implement a big thing in a
particular time frame yeah yeah yeah as
I have remembered like last year I was
having a hacker on internal hacker on my
college itself and I still remember like
you know the way our team and we were
like thinking hardly deeply about Sol
for particular problem and the thing is
we failed still we failed but this year
also still we are going to try but yeah
it was part of my question there so my
next question is uh Can I submit
multiple problem
stats yeah actually yes you can submit
multiple problem treatment right because
uh the provision in my college that I
was having that time right if you have
built a solution particular solution to
it right and it is it got selected then
you have a provision to have a second
problem statement but according to my
advice or my experience I would suggest
pick one problem statement and grind
through it and make a best solution of
it right don't go on the two problem
statement un unless you're very skilled
and you are very experien enough to work
on two problem statement right so pick
one and go for it whole a whole lot of
hard pick on the one I would suggest so
how is it like you know how is it
possible for us to decide this is our
problem statement the things is like uh
I remember last year while I was having
this uh program uh I was going through
so many problem statements but the thing
was like I was confused like which
problem statement should I choose what
the what's the thing like uh so how is
it how is it like how is it possible for
us to you know decide this is the
problem statement which we have to
choose how is it like yeah see uh if I
would tell you my point that I have done
first of all first I would suggest the
whole lot of problem statement that you
are having like 170 problem statement
160 problem having set for two hours
right set for two hours and read every
single problem that you are having and
create a word do right word so select
out like select out the problem s that
you can think of the implementation like
a solution is coming to mind of a
problem shat noted down in other tab
right I would so according to me in the
whole lot of 170 problem statement you
can at least have a choice of 10 to 15
problem statement in a V do right these
are the problem statement that you can
implement or you can think of a solution
of it right you have a little bit idea
that yes if I would do this I can build
a solution to it then then sit with your
whole team and grind on that 15 10 to 15
problem that you having right and the
best St will pop it out according to the
whole teammate that yes it is very good
and we can implemented a Winer in a very
best manner right so how this is how you
can choose a like good problem statement
with your team and the
whole oh yeah that's a nice point so um
my next question is how to find
teammates and create a strong
Network okay so finding teammates
according to me like I uh my team was
made six hours before the registration
right so if if you are bner of a fresher
then you should have a confidence and
secondly you should pick a teammate
which is really enthusiastic about the
particular project working on a
particular project right if you thinking
we will take a step person or a senior
of it right first thing your how is your
Bor with your teammates right because
your Vibes should match with your
teammates then only you can work
together on a particular problem
statement right should have a single
particular mindset that yes we have to
achieve it and we have to work on a
particular PR together yeah right yeah
so that level of enthusiasm you should
have to pick a teammate that should have
a vision that yes I have to craft it
right doesn't matter he's that much
skilled or not he will learn to it right
to to execute that project he will learn
something but likely minded choosing
likely minded people for team is the one
of the main point that I would recomend
to
you yeah you know problem that happens
is like you know during these programs
and like we see friends picking up
friends and if you don't pick up other
people they why didn't you pick up
how to overcome any of those kinds of
situations see actually I would suggest
he you should have your personal life
and your professional life you should
have a gap minut it right because if you
going in a hackathons and all that that
is increasing your mental level that is
increasing your skill set that is adding
a value to your Skillet right so if you
will think about friends and all that at
that moment then you will not be able to
grow at at that place that you want
right working with likely minded people
right connecting with new people will
help you in the growth right so if your
friend forces it and it you can you can
directly say what value you are adding
to you to my team that I should take you
right as a leader you should ask it what
value you can add if it is a valid point
that is I can add this this this I know
this technology and all then is worth it
taking right rather you should have a
like Vision that yes you should say no
to somebody right you should have a
courage to S is very important this like
yeah next question is can I do cheating
in
s okay see see uh cheating according to
me you cannot do cheating in s because
there is no point of doing it cheating
in essay because the the judges that
you're having in front of you have
experience of 20 to 25 years in the
industry right so they have a lot more
experience than you and they can easily
identify that you have copied this or
you have made it yourself because in my
case what happened in the last round of
evaluation they actually told us to
explain the whole python script that we
have written in the back end right yeah
so you should have a very strong
knowledge about your code base that you
have written right it's not just copying
or cheating because you cannot do do it
because if you have copied something or
cheated then it can be easily identified
by the because they very experienced and
the evaluation part is actually is a is
a very tough part according to me so you
should you should be sensible enough to
execute all the things in life right so
that is a answer
this yes sure uh so I'm a professional
and I'm having no coding skills so is it
worth participating in si
2024 absolutely my friend it is worth
participating in smarting the hone I
just to I just told you in the my last
answer that hackathons are not about
just winning it's all about winning if
you don't have a coding experience in
any of the cases then doesn't matter
right if you're taking in a hakon and
you've chosen a problem sh you made your
team then it will it will automatically
force you to search that what is holding
right how websites are made how apps are
made what is front end what is back end
what are the Technologies used in front
end with the Technologies Us in back end
right these are the skill set that that
these are the knowledge that you are
having in that place these are the
things that is in the world these are
the technologies that you can learn to
implement all these things right so
according to me right finally the end
goal is to increase your skill set and
knowledge about the particular domain
right and that is happening if you're
coding if you don't have a coding
experience and you are fresh then
automatically taking part in a hackathon
is benefiting you as it is increasing
your knowledge in the particular domain
that you want to go right yeah so going
to haathon will increase your coding
experience according to yeah okay and um
yeah my next question is how to present
our project to the judg
how to
impress how to impress
them see to impress judges first of all
you should have a very good knowledge
about your solution that you have made
of a particular problem yeah right
because the first question of the judges
that they ask is what is your problem
statement and what solution you have
made to right this is the first question
now now if you have to impress it then
you should have a precise knowledge of
of the solution that you made second the
pp thing PP is very important the pp and
the content that you have implemented
the flowchart diagram that you have made
into it right you're able to explain
that flowchart diagram you have able to
justify the content in front of judges
that yes this is these are the features
that we have made we can show in the
Prototype and third is the presentation
skills right how you are presenting
yourself right at a national level you
are representing your University then
how appealing you are to the judges that
matters a lot so presentation skills
matters very much to impress us is
because the way you say the way you
express your Express what you have made
right it is very important so there's
about a body language of confidence that
yes I have made this and I can explain
it this to you right this can make the
judges impress on
yeah so next question is like what
question should we expect from them
while when we like know presenting our
projects what what question should we
expect from
them uh like what judges will ask you
the questions yeah yeah okay so judges
first of all as I say they for us they
understood the whole python code that
they explain this scod according to me
they will firstly ask you that what is
the business oppos to it that is a very
important question according to me right
because they ask because the solution
that you have made right it should have
a business model right it should
generate a a source of income it should
have a source of income right then only
it is a feasible and avable product that
you first thing is this and second thing
is how who is the end consumer like who
is the user who will use it right yeah
and third is that explain your whole
solution that what extra features that
you having as the existing because the
thing you have made right existing
Solutions might be existing at that time
right so what new you have implemented
it what is the unique selling point of
your product that you they will you can
expect these all the main questions that
you can have right and yeah yes yeah
okay so my next question is how to qu
like it's like any winning formula or
something okay so we want a winning
formula see see the winning formula is
very simple yeah it's not simple but
yeah it's it it actually includes a lot
of hard work right lot of hard work pres
perseverance right and resilience to
achieve that according to me see first
make a good team right a team with a
diverse skill set second choose a prod
statement that you can Implement and you
have a confidence to it that yes I can
build the best solution of it right yeah
third your PP presentation right the pp
that you have made is very important
yeah because pbd is a thing which when
you submit it in the S portal first
thing is not a prototype that is seen it
is your PD that is seen that how you
have implemented Your solution and
fourth is your presentation skill that
how you present yourself these are the
basic mantras that you can have to
achieve like you can help in achieving
the smart and according to luck is also
very big factor into it right but hard
work it is in our hands and we have to
do it at Max potential so I would
suggest all people do hard work and have
a vision in your mind that yes we have
to achieve it and we can so you should
have confidence that to achieve it yeah
yeah yeah okay my my last question is
how many levels and routes are there to
go to the F Grand
Finale okay so uh in the grand finale if
I will tell you from the start then in
my internal hakon the internal hak was
24 hours hakon and it had a four round
of evaluation that was in my college
right and in the main siia jumping to
the main s we had six round of
evaluation and it was a 36 hours haathon
that we were having at that time yeah
these are the rounds and the hours of
Aon and in the multiple evaluation you
should you have to show the progressive
like Pro Progressive progress of your
project that you can show right that how
much you have done in each evaluation
and the last evaluation you have to show
your whole prototype that you have made
in the whole lot of one months or
like in the whole 36
hours yeah so here's just a question
just for me the question is like uh what
do you give us a suggest suggestion for
a know first year loser
like as a motivation for this this year
H for this year hak
motivation see see my friend see I
always say because see as a fresher you
should have you actually have many
insecurities right that I will be able
to make it and I will not be able to
because my journey if I would say it is
a little bit motivating because when I
started my college right I only know C++
and I was a winner of smart and this my
first semester right so when my journey
started of the SI right so we were all
the my whole team was a first semester
they were all freshers right and we
didn't have much knowledge about it so
it was a thing which I said you in the
whole podcast right you have to choose
these Pathways that I suggested you
right we choose a problem statement we
implemented solution and I would and
truthfully I was saying in the internal
haathon we didn't have any of the back
end of a project we only had a front end
right so we was selected we had a 62
rank out of 280 teams in our college
right then we submitted our Solution on
the SI portal and as the 62 rank we got
we actually got motivated right because
as a fresher achieving 62 rank out of
280 teams is actually a big achievement
for us because we were not expecting
that on also right so we were at that
moment we were really enthusiastic at
that time that yes now we have to learn
new things and Implement into a project
that we can make it the best solution
right so as you got selected in the
smart in the haathon it was the biggest
it was the biggest like I cannot explain
in words what was the feeling when we
got to see our name on the website that
yesan Sai is on the website then we went
to jaur and finally we presented
ourselves at our best Max potential that
we could yeah and at that we won so this
was a whole journey and and it is easy
to say my whole journey but it was whole
lot of hard work and patience like
patience is very important because the
time span of the screening the screening
evaluation is actually time taking so
you should have a patience and have a
courage that yes we will get selected
and a confidence that yes you have to
get selected and a vision that yes this
is my vision and I have to achieve this
this kind of mindset if you're having
then not
