Transcripts
alrighty y'all welcome back to the show
we're looking at 10 surprising facts
about Austria really excited about this
we have had some viral videos about
Austria I tell you what awesome comments
and I've seen just a couple screenshots
uh from videos you know I've done uh
just just barely diving into Austria so
far but I tell you what it looks
absolutely beautiful very intrigued and
I want to learn more so we're going to
start with this video this is from a
channel called FTD facts it will be
linked down below so you can watch the
whole thing uninterrupted of course
browser Channel this is a Discord
suggestion from
stefan2000 so thank you for that let's
jump right into this y'all here we go
foreign
all the time but it is an important
place with a fascinating culture and
people and of course history and today
here on FTD facts we are looking at the
great country of Austria and finding out
what is interesting about this country
it is a country that has its own unique
story and has made its own individual
contributions to the world up
that is a beautiful place
good to hear me say wow a lot because I
am a uh I'm a sucker for natural beauty
damn Austria looks really mountainous I
like mountains we're off to a good start
place in people who have their own way
of doing things that may be different
from the rest of Europe and the rest of
the places on the planet so when it
comes to Austria it might be a country
that is very similar to Germany but that
doesn't mean that they are German
because the country itself has its own
borders and land that stretches out to
83 879 kilometers Square
113th largest country in the world and
throughout these borders the people of
industria have their own unique rules
and they've got their own different
types of people and when it comes to
population they have roughly eight
million 794 000 people right eight
million sixth in the world where the
population density of 104 people per
square kilometer I'll say my own fact
they might even mention before they
start I have seen
a couple articles I think and then I've
also seen people comment this in my
comment section before on some other
videos I believe that recently
um I believe that Vienna which is a
beautiful city in Austria I believe
Vienna Austria was ranked as the number
one city in the world for like quality
of life or something along those lines
so again very impressive place now of
course being interested in Germany the
main language is German coming in at
88.4 percent at about 2.4 speaks Serbian
2.3 percent speak Turkish and 1.3
percent Croatian and of course there are
many other different languages that are
under the one percent that looks like a
clean beautiful place approximately 81
of all these people are straight up
austrians so that's just interesting
idea guys when you go oh yeah you're
probably from Germany no they're
different austrians are different from
Germans guys we did talk about land size
but when it does come to the land
Austria is known to be a very
mountainous country with most of the
country being a part of the Alps and
actually about maybe 32 of the country
is under 1 640 feet above sea level
which basically means most of the
countries is up very high yeah but what
is the highest point of Austria well
that goes to mount gross block which is
the highest mountain in Austria twelve
thousand years she's actually look at
that
dude they are in the sky look at this
parking lot on the top of the world
that's crazy is that part of like a
national park or something I imagine
dang ah that'd be a fun place to have
lunch yeah
highest mountain in Austria coming in at
12 461 feet she's actually the highest
point in the Alps east of Brenner passed
and although people have been living in
Europe for a quite a long time and a lot
of Europe was discovered way back in the
day this mountain was not documented
until 1561. so with all these people
living up in very high mountainous areas
one thing that austrians are known for
is Alpine skiing yeah basically it's
downhill skiing that's right taking skis
and going downhill it's my favorite
thing to do it's on my list it looks so
fun from videos I've seen like this with
action cams and they go down it looks so
fun I know it could be dangerous as well
so I wouldn't literally start with the
mountain like this I'd rather start with
the hill like a small hill but it's on
my I'm 30 years old and I've never gone
skiing it's kind of a shame they have
lots of skiing just you know nearby of
course in Wisconsin then of course when
we're in New Mexico there's tons of
skiing in Northern New Mexico Southern
Colorado but I've never done it and I
really really want to is it too late to
start skiing I mean I'm 30 already dang
matter of fact the people of Austria are
known from all around the world for
being great downhill skiers with skiing
being the most prominent sport within
the country and what's really important
about skiing Austria is pretty much the
place where it invented modern day
Alpine skiing this is because the design
for steel edges on skis was invented in
1928 in Austria as well when it comes to
skiing one thing that's really amazing
about Austria is the little Villages
that you can go to yeah for skiing they
just look so quaint and quiet and like I
just love these little Villages I love
yeah all the buildings together they're
all different colors against the white
uh beautiful trees and the White
Mountains you know with the snow
everywhere it's really cool that looks
like something out of a book like a
storybook or something really cool and
one of the most famous places that you
can go for skiing is alberg and it's not
just famous because of skiing but this
is also the region where Han Schneider
invented modern day ski techniques
almost a century ago now okay we could
talk about skiing in Austria for a long
time because it's the most prominent
sport in the country and there's just so
much history to it but moving right
along one thing that's fascinating about
Austria is that on January 1st of 1995
the country did decide to join the
European Union however although they're
part of the European Union they're
actually not a part of NATO one of the
reasons is because when Austria became
after the USSR and the Allied countries
removed their occupation in 1956.
Austria pretty much from there on
decided that they just wanted to be a
neutral country because of the issues
that happened in World War II they just
didn't want to be a part of anything bad
that would happen in the future of the
country swore itself into neutrality and
remained from war now Austria as a
matter of fact she stands at sixth in
the world when it comes to economic
complexity the country makes 141 billion
dollars in exports and about 146 billion
dollars in Imports and comparing Austria
to other countries that we've talked
about here on FTD facts one unique thing
about Austria is that it doesn't really
have a prime import or export that's
right the country seems to export and
import a little bit of everything
because for example their highest
percentage of imports is cars coming in
at 5.6 percent and out of all the
imports and exports Austria is labeled
as one of the wealthiest countries in
the entire world
it was listed as 21st in the world when
it came to the human development index
scale and this is probably due to the
fact that you know Austria's just been a
great country that's been around for
such a long time and it's been such an
important place when it comes to history
and diving into this history slightly
when we talk about the country's flag it
is actually one of the oldest in the
world although it was officially adopted
in 1980 now I'm not quite sure if
there's a word for this but I am like a
flag enthusiast
I know it sounds funny I loved like
geography and learn about maps and and
stuff like that but I also like flags
and uh Austria's flag is cool right the
the famous the red and white and red and
then um if you want to explain what that
in Insignia in the middle is it's pretty
cool it's almost got like a mini Austria
flag within that thing
um but yeah their flag is really cool
it's really neat to hear it's one of the
oldest that's interesting as well
because some flags are really new some
are really old I want to do some videos
sometimes looking at flags of the world
I think that'd be fun but uh between the
style of the flag has been fun we've
been adopted by the coat of arms of the
babenberg dynasty which is roughly
around the 12th and 13th century even
further into this country's past the
country has had multiple days in history
of Independence even dating back to 976
A.D when it became the margravian of
Austria but however its official year of
foundation was in 1804 when it became
known as the Austrian Empire as well as
diving into their history Austria is a
country that has provided a lot of great
musical composers from the classical era
you have great composers such as Mozart
and even though Beethoven was born in
Germany he lived in many years in
Austria composing Music and on top of
that there's also Johann Strauss just
Strauss Mozart Beethoven
what damn Austria Austria we could thank
them for some classical music influence
yeah and Friends Schubert and the reason
for this is because big players are such
a huge important center or hub for music
way back in the day and actually if
we're gonna talk about Vienna we should
probably mention some really cool
interesting features about this place
yeah for example it is home to one of if
not the world's largest emerald this is
the emeraldarian which is
2860 carats and it might have been
carved out of a Colombian mine in 1641
but it is now on display at the Imperial
treasury in Vienna Austin that's wild
and also when it comes to being the city
itself is pretty much completely a
UNESCO Zone although I even if it's not
from there I imagine some of those
mountains in Austria at least at one
time had some pretty cool stuff in there
as well though right Austria may have 10
UNESCO zones all over the country with
nine of them being cultural and one
being natural which basically when it
comes to its natural Zone that's the
Primeval forests of the country Vienna
is listed as one of the most important
cities and listed as a UNESCO Zone
because of its importance in history and
one thing as we mentioned before it just
was a place that provided so many great
composers in history and break it down
when it comes to Vienna about 371
hectares or 3.71 kilometers square of
the city is considered a protected
UNESCO zone of this city about 75
percent of it is owned by individual
people and 18 of it is publicly owned
while seven percent is owned I can't get
over just the intricacies and every
building everywhere you look it's not
like just this little District or
something like no it's like everywhere
you look on every block it's just so
wild it's very beautiful looking and
intricate and just damn it is so
different as it should be I mean I'm
just saying like whenever I see a lot of
these beautiful cities within Europe
Vienna definitely included it's just so
worlds different than cities here in New
U.S it's fun it's fun to see people from
Austria or or anywhere in Europe that
goes you know to these cities a lot
you're probably laughing like what's the
big deal you see this all the time here
I've unfortunately you know haven't been
outside of the Americas and I would love
to of course travel you know the world
someday and I just never seen anything
quite like this it's very very cool very
different from what I'm using by the
Roman Catholic church and you know what
I don't really want this video to just
be focused on Vienna but there is one
thing that Vienna does have that no
other country can ever claim and I mean
Austria can claim it too because it's
you know within Austria and that is
which is the world's oldest zoo and not
only that no it's also special because
it's one of the fuses it's gorgeous and
how's the giant pandas as well Austria
can claim that this Zoo had the first
Panda to be birthed by natural
insemination in all of Europe and this
was baby panda food which happened on
August 23rd of 2007. and on top of that
Austria can also claim that they had the
first elephant born in captivity on July
14 of 1906. however as for the zoo
itself it opened in 1752. like I said
making it the world's oldest zoo but one
thing that's really fascinating about
this is that there was also a zoo that
existed since 1540 in the same grounds
before this zoo was ever created ah it's
just destined to have a zoo there I
don't know who to thunk forgive my bad
English there it's funny sling
who would have thought I mean that's the
that's the OG that's the original Zoo
uh I'll just zoom um culture I guess
right damn Austria has got the zoos down
to a science
that is amazing that is I would have
never guessed that that's why videos
like this are interesting I would have
never guessed that I'm gonna have to
take a look at that at a future time I'm
gonna jump off the Vienna topic because
I've been talking about Vienna for so
long but it is a very interesting City
but I want to talk about one thing that
Austria has that no other country can
claim and that is the country has the
world's longest Ice Cavern this is the
awesomest caves which are natural
Limestone caves and they are sometimes
referred to as the world of the ice
giants because this alone cave goes
approximately 42 kilometers deep and
although it was officially discovered in
1879 locals didn't build the cave before
but they refused to explore it because
they thought it was an entrance to hell
anyway this fascinating natural
structure I mean can you blame them
that'd be freaky something that long
caves are like weird for me because I'm
very uh kind of excited by them I think
they're wild and mind-blowing and uh
mysterious right but at the same time
they're freaky to me as well and uh to
be quite honest with you I don't feel
like I'd be brave enough to venture very
deep into a lot of caves you know we
have no shortage of caves here in the
U.S and some of them have really spooked
me uh go and do a
crazy big cave in the Alps in Austria
yeah that would be freaky I feel like
that's a powerful Place 20 000 tourists
a year and it's really quite an amazing
thing to see it's wild seeing the ice in
there that's a look at the great country
known as Austria a country look at that
that is beautiful you know some of the
windows you know like your computer the
window shows like uh really beautiful
places when you launch your computer and
you log in I feel like some of these
have had to be from Austria I feel like
I've seen this shop before and it's it
is Stellar there is just not enough time
to talk about when it comes to not only
its culture but its history which
reminds me guys if we forgot anything be
sure to let us know down there in the

about Austria and for our recurring

joining here all the time and learning
that is really cool that definitely only
scratched the surface I realize there's
probably uh you know a thousand facts
you could have about Austria but you
know what this was is a good starting
point for me this is a big video for
comments so I would appreciate your
thoughts down below your thoughts about
these any corrections to these you would
like to add and of course any other
facts you would like to share any
suggestions for videos like this or
about Austria or really anything
interesting in Europe uh or anywhere
that you would like to share I'm all

these videos come from you from you guys
so this was great Austria beautiful
place absolutely beautiful seemed like a
very great economic Powerhouse as well
and of course there's no denying they
have some deep rich history and of
course they have and of course they have
Vienna which is one of the best cities
in the world that's what I keep hearing
so really interesting stuff much more to
