Transcripts
- what's up boy so welcome to see the
cement is and today we're going to talk
about how do you write an SOP as far as
your HR program from gem knowledge is
concerned now to be very honest now
there are a lot of people they do fine
right the SOP but when it comes to HR
it's gonna be a bit different now it's
not only for HR let's let's say if
you're somebody who's a finance guy
right or if you are applying for any
marketing program right for all these
things your SOP is going to be a little
different because we have some standard
rules when we talk about SUV but rush me
those things have now become cliche
those things do not work in the market
and those things are not really
appreciated by the into the model it if
they examiner or you know you could be
interview parent because now we know
that you know as a panel I can tell you
that you know we know what you're gonna
write in the SUV because it should be
format if you look at SUV format it's it
has become now so much clean sure that
you know it's so bloody old that we know
what you're going to write in the SUV so
have the maker ish will look a bit
different now when we talk about HR
write your HRA should be got to be a
really awesome compelled it with finance
marketing sales or whatsoever right
because HR is really you know it is the
most interactive you know domain of the
management and it comes with a lot of
responsibilities you have to have human
interaction and your SOP should give
those personality traits so if you are
adding whose recipe very seriously but
might not gonna help you but then yeah
when you write your SUV you want to make
it a point that you write SOP in such a
manner which countries that yes you do
have a quality of becoming a pretty good
HR manager and as a reason you know
before when we move it there is a bit of
hygiene that you only to understand when
you write HR SUV predominantly and it
just cannot just stuck with you don't
leave points you know talking about
yourself and so on its food so we'll
talk about HR couple of points I can
give you right now it got to be
interactive right humor I don't mind
having humor of there but it should
connect
okay it should connect whatever you
making main level should connect
people's person right I want
whenever you write your recipe in a
manner I should see let me know you were
not somebody whose laconic know you're
somebody who's over booze right so you
have a good balance alike you know I
should see that you know that that
social connection that social network
kind of thing right number five at the
same time I should also see a bit of
maturity because trust me I can tell you
that you know being an Englishman banker
right there are certain times that we
have when we have to make crucial
decisions but if you look at those
decisions can actually been a bad
company financially and again you have
this management in place though but when
I look at H R as a function right in
when I when I look at HR as a domain
there are so many things there are so
many decisions that HR people duty which
impact your business the reputation of a
company you could will any any goddamn
thing University related to the company
so yes whatever you write in in your
recipe should poetry a bit of maturity
should have a sense of responsibility I
mean you should know what what you're
writing people do right any should in
their SUV not really appreciate it so
you need to have a good skeleton a good
proof for minor as far as your SOPs
concern and number seven reason right
you know because it is a statement of
purpose
now that purpose is the most important
thing in it should be I I get little
flabbergasted you know when you know I
see people don't talk about purpose but
they talk about all the other things in
the world that does not make it should
be a really good SOP right so these are
a couple of hides ins that you guys it
to keep in mind when you write your
recipe
and though I think if you do this your
SUV will still be able to stand out I'm
gonna guys kinda fit walk it through the
pointers one by one one by one because
as I said you know it has to have it
proforma you get at random you start it
so yeah we have to go through the
perform on though it's at least you kind
of thing right first point is
introduction now you're people talk
about my name is ABC and I'm from let's
say XY let's see it
some people say that if I'm from this
city and this city is known for you know
XY z-- I think that that's that's not
what I have right because I understand
this though you are a student and you're
uploading for an interview but but for
the panel you know I am NOT taking you
as an it as a student I am taking
you had somebody who was going to be
doing the HR program so I expect you to
be a bit of mature and I expect you to
beat the competition we're adding
something really different but should
you have sense in it you know you've
gotta cannot decide any nonsense out
there right so if you talk about it from
ABC and all the stuff it doesn't really
appeal to me right so it doesn't really
appeal and the reason I say right now as
a parent I can tell you that if a moment
I really introduction I'd know what kind
of talent you have what kind of
intellectual ability you have and what
is going to be there in your SUV later
on so trust me first five lines or first
three lines of your statement of purpose
you can actually make it or break it for
you and that is the reason your
introduction is going to be a little
different now when students do try to
write introduction I always tell them
try to write something which is out of
the world now when you write this
introduction there can be a lot of stuff
number one you can start with freeze any
freeze that you know that you know any
any best HR manager or HR head of any
term you know Fox affiliate company has
ever said that you know you can probably
code that up right for an example if you
happen to write an example of a finance
sob right I would probably know code
somebody like in a Warren Buffet or I
can quote somebody who was known as a
finance you know business tycoon on and
I can whatsoever it now I understand
this it might click you that you know
one new friend is a you know it's it's a
very famous personality you know you
talk about other you know traitors and
all that these guys are like really
famous personalities in the world we
know about it but then we've never heard
about any top-notch HR manager or any
top-notch HR head of XYZ company coding
something in the market I know that's
rare I know that's rare and that's the
point that's the point of what I make
for the fact it's rare when you write it
down it has more value because people
don't know about it right when I would
Warren Buffet a lot of people have heard
about it you know maybe the person who
is reading the SOP he might have heard
about it right but when I'm when I'm
quoting X Y Zed HR head of let's say
PepsiCo or let's say Goldman or let's
say actual or PNG or McKenzie or you
know BCG what server right it gives a
great impression because that shows you
that you're serious
seriously interested towards HR as a
career and that's what you follow
because you know that you know some HR
head of fortune phonetic companies has
quoted something now that code should
match with your personality right so if
you're somebody who has got a work xr8
and it believes strongly in the teamwork
and the leadership and all the stuff and
if you see anybody making that coat in
the market do right that doesn't make
you a fantastic impression because that
gives me a clue that you know what this
guy knows the HR stuff right that's
number one
nobody can talk about your qualities
right now when I talk about qualities do
not write qualities such as I'm
hardworking person I understand people I
have interactive I'm interpersonal you
know I love to talk to people
Dora no you can't really write that now
when you talk about it quality is there
to talk something which is not you know
a routine kind of thing right so here
you can say that I am patient rather
Agana quick a little bit more attractive
you can say that I'm a good listener I
am a patient listener because HR got to
listen to its employee that's the most
important personality trait of an HR if
you are somebody who only believes in
talking probably not a good fit for HR
right that's number one right that that
that can be one of your quality that you
can talk about right interpersonal
skills good communication it's not
necessarily to go to be able to
communicate or if you really want to be
good HR right so I don't really want you
guys should you know write all that
stuff so qualities we only talk about
something which is a little bit
different right then you can probably
talk about your story right something I
mean you can make it a bit of negative
right out here you can probably write it
in this way I never thought that I will
ever mention it to HR because this is an
eye-opener not exactly an eye open um
but I will see this is going to be a bit
of a kick or it's kind of a hook you
know because when I read this thing see
the first thing is that as a reader I
had never gonna expect that somebody's
gonna write in the negative in a
connotation right so I'm not expecting
anybody to write in a negative
connotation I'm gonna see that word and
I see that line is gonna be I catchy
it's gonna have my attention now right
so you can say
tottering I will be venturing into HR
because I have always been laconic I've
been shy I've been through word so and
so forth and that's where you start your
story because now I'm so got them
involved in your story that what I read
lying now I want to read second line
third line fourth fifth line that's how
you're named easily so that's a book
actually that's the strategy because of
that book the reader will read your SUV
if you read it in a simple format or if
you would like this SUV in a cliche
format or in the old format of the old
pattern what every mentor is posting on
a youtuber you know what people have you
know giving in their courses and all
that trust me is not going to be
backfilled because you've got to get
their attention so you're going to write
something a little different so I see
here like something a little bit
negative but not really negative in that
sense but just to make it a point that
you know it's gonna be I catchy hard you
can just start talking about your life
experiences right you know what were you
I don't know how did you you know kind
if you know started grooving in your
life so it's good but do not talk
something on a label of yeah you might
want to write your name out there write
a name out there but then start with a
story because people would love to read
the story right and trust me if your SUV
is damn good
you are halfway through your pie because
you know this is what I believe in this
is what as a panel I have always
experienced that the moment I need
somebody's SOP right and if it is really
interesting I look forward to see that
candidate trust me it happens it happens
with all normal human beings in the
world right if you read something good
about somebody if you read something
good been written by somebody you would
love to see that person another now
you're eager to see that person you want
to see that person I want to talk to
that person you wanna ask that person
why did you write this so I'm gonna wait
for you I'm gonna wait for you till the
time I see you and I'm gonna ask you why
do you wanna I want you to write this
now let's say you are number five as a
candidate and you've got one two three
foot and let's say I am a panelist right
I am interviewing people but still
somewhere down the line
see this question right something that
you know very viewed where you've
written your recipe is actually holding
on my hair you know it's something in
the back of my mind and I'm really
really you know kind of you know I'm not
able to kind of cope
I want to see this person I'm gonna ask
him you know why did you write this
that's how you create an impact I have
done this multiple time it works very
smooth it gives you result it's a
fabulous strategy I would definitely
advise you to do that but yeah you've
got to be very smart when you put this
across you cannot write eleven or ten
lines out of it right it's got to be
very very precise it should be like two
or three lines period right so that's
what I want you guys to write so when I
talk about an introduction this should
be your introduction you can probably
start with one of the phrases I said or
you know probably you can start with the
tagline right now whose tagline you
gonna write right in any company which
has been known for its HR practices it
can really foster 200 company it can be
any IT company any goddamn company out
there or it can be any HR consultancy
company for example Michael please write
all that try to dig into the data a bit
try to have a bit of knowledge because I
want you to see because it takes it
takes 30 minutes to write here should be
but this 30 minutes should have three
hours of research right and that's how
we're going to create an impact fair
enough so that's the introduction that I
want you guys to write about qualities
and synergy and this is really important
now people do not talk about their
qualities or rather I have seen lot of
student Riya lot of students they write
about their qualities but what the
mission is they do not try to write or
they never try and think about it that
my qualities and HR as a domain or as a
career how it has a sync between each
these to write because whatever the
qualities that you have you cannot say
that you cannot say that you know I am
I'm good at number crunching you know I
love number crunching you know I I love
you know selling the products now you
are on a different tangent altogether
probably you can say that you know and
you love number this is a finance word
but then you have compound man wearing
number crunching is there in HR so you
probably want to take it to that level
wherein you really want to direct your
reader to say that you know you are
somebody who really listen in to contact
pain right which is compensation and
benefits anyway right so I want you I
want you guys to write in these
qualities and show them the synergy
between these two and how these
qualities will help you to become a good
edge
or to a tree to a chance now why HR once
you put this synergy into place right
now I understood about your life now I'm
talking about your qualities now I want
to understand now I'm curious and
interested to know why do you want to
pursue each other right and that's when
you say you know why do you love HR then
you can talk about a bit of importance
of each other something that really you
know kind if you know make make you
motivated let's say HR is something you
know which actually looks include
360-degree o for business right I mean
HR is just not all about recruitment I
always tell my students to write this
and I love this line HR is the only
segment nature is the only segment that
takes care of onboarding from on loading
till exit of the employee so if you look
at HR is the only function wherein you
made the employee first and you made the
employee in the end that's a beautiful
thing too right because that shows how
important is HR and that shows a charged
role of one building the employee
including that employee in the family
taking care of that employee because to
the common man will suit the policies
protecting the interest of the employee
by having those kind of policies for
reasonable compensation policies sexual
harassment you know leave laughs
policies that you include that member in
the family you take care of that member
in the family you nurture him or her by
giving the promotion by giving new
responsibilities and when it's time to
bring the relationship
you take the exit interview trying to
understand it why do you want to leave
the family now and that's how you exit
the employee by having something called
as full and final which is the payment
thing and all that stuff right so I
always tell my students to write this in
a very beautiful manner first anybody
who's reading your SOP if he or she is
an HR
they'll fall in love with you there
should be that's for sure because you're
writing something which is practical and
people don't really think about right
that's what I wanted to caterpillar
right as far as why HR is concerned try
to understand how HR creates more value
in the organization right how HR is so
goddamn important as far as your
companies are concerned and trust me
where you talk about India India is a
service B
country the service industry is the most
important industry in India and that's
where the most human resource
requirements are and as it is you know
HR jobs are going to be a fury really
demanding they are so bloody important
like any other domain out there and as I
said I want you guys to write it in a
very much realistic way I mean I can go
on and on you know as far as this topic
is concerned I am already running into
the 16th minute I can talk about this we
should be meeting for like one one and a
half hour but I don't want to do that
that is something I doing my you know
programs which are definitely paid for
by my for my students but anyway this is
going to be a kind of a shortcut for you
guys again this road is going to be
round about 20-25 minutes but whatever
I'm going to tell you out here it's just
going to be round about one fourth of
the entire session or a lesson whatever
it is fine so why HR I want you guys to
include all these points and trust me is
going to be real fun they would
definitely fall in love with the recipe
now five years down the line now you
started with your introduction you
talked a bit about your introduction you
also told them that you know why do you
want to do HR and all that stuff now
it's time for you to kind of you know
collect everything from your this three
point and tell them where do you where
do you see yourself five years down the
road now try and not to put the
designation Lord of students do this
mistake they are so keen on writing the
designations that I want to be head HR I
want to be the vice president I want to
be the a VP and all the stuff you just
have to be a bit diplomatic and you have
to give them an answer which is not
spot-on but gives them the idea or helps
them go understand your thought process
and your personality so you can just say
that you know fine is down the line I
would love to be a part of a company who
is known for its best HR practices in
the world or in the country and I would
like to have
lion's share in that development or in
that policymaking done trust who you
write this once you are done for the day
because nobody writes about it nobody is
right see I wonder SUV who have a value
right I just don't want to read the SUV
which has no you know head and tail or
you know which has nothing in there
right so I always I always can't even
request my student to write SUV which is
a value addition and that's the reason
and I always say that if you write in
this way you are taking care of the
purpose statement of purpose right
when you say introduction qualities wise
and five years look at the flow
everything is connected to each other
you're not breaking anywhere like you
are in a such a gloomy flow and as I
said that you know you are an HR end
because whatever SUV that you are
writing on the basis of this SUV I'm
going to judge you the way you write the
way you express your thought because HR
is more of emotional question or
emotional intelligence that's more of
the IQ oh I mean yeah definitely IQ is
required but it's more of an EQ kind of
a job so I'm trying to understand
whether this student out here is capable
enough to provide this EQ or not trust
me it can be Jamie it can be any goddamn
thing but trust me even for exhilarate
I train my students right in the same
fashion I have got fantastic results out
of it so I'm telling you guys so rather
than a very much high level because it
becomes very easy to select you rather
than comparing your SOP with somebody
else and trying to eliminate you be
outstanding and go for the next one
right so if I it's not gonna end well do
you want to be next we talk about is now
these like this is what you are these
are your qualities again you talk about
this is what like the reason why do you
want to sell do HR add five years down
the line where do you see your career
pick maps you can probably talk about
your career map definitely heading
upward I'm going to talk about this when
you combine this as a whole package
how GB as a brand is going to help you
is something I wanted to talk now and
then you can probably talk about why
germinal arbitrage is so important for
me to actually get my ex RN degree turn
from you and that's it is it then you
talk about ygv now don't talk about it's
a brand and blah blah blah everybody
knows that it's a brand right talk more
about the curriculum talk more about the
faculty talk more about the industry
exposure right talk more about how
industry perceives this as a brand so
just don't say that gem nada but that is
a great brand it is agreed ranked good
no doubt about it
but to say that it has become a great
brand because industry respected
industry wants people passing out of
German arbitrage because that's the way
industries look
I jump another Alvarez's a brand and
that's what it that's what you know you
know something that makes JB one of the
fabulous brand in the country so I want
you guys to write about that right now
after this you may rewrite all these
things I wanted to conclude continue
whatever I've written everything should
be concluded in three to four lines
right now this is going to be your
beginning this is going to be the end of
your recipe now these one two three four
points are going to be your main body or
rather the body of your SOP now the
point is they should be can be for 300
words or 500 words or may be for a
thousand words right whatsoever it can
be right I want you guys to kind of sit
down jot down all these points try to
write sob at least three to four times
then normally you will have a final
distribution do not write SUV at the
first go and make it final try to write
three four five times and let's see how
can you actually minimize those words
