Transcripts
I started Healing Little Hearts in 2009.
And the reason I started that, was to send volunteer teams across the world
to perform heart surgeries on babies, children and teenagers for free.
What motivated me to start the charity was the shocking statistics
which exists even in the 21st century.
And that is there are 1 million children born across the world each and every year
in the poorest countries of the world. And 90% of these children will
never, ever get heart surgery.
And I wanted to try to make a difference, try to start helping tackle this
absolutely enormous problem, which I think, and I feel very
strongly is a major public health problem for children's health in the world.
Well, the experience has been very good.
We have been here for five days, very intensive days.
We have performed six surgeries a day.
So it's a lot of work, but it has been a
great experience in order to help people, and especially children.
The highlight, of course, was a huge honour to meet Sadguru.
I have traveled widely.
I've lived in different countries in the world
and I rarely met an individual with such power, such magnetism, such profound knowledge.
His knowledge of my specialty, of the
huge problem of congenital heart disease across the world was astounding.
Definitely we can create a world where every child has access to healthcare
and nobody is denied healthcare for want of money.
But coming to this hospital,
the whole, the entire campus, there's a serenity about it.
There's a calm, there's a peacefulness, which you do not get in the outside world.
The team who are inspired by Sadguru are very driven,
they're very passionate, they're compassionate.
The ethos, the passion here mirrors what we have and I think hopefully
we will have a very long and fruitful partnership and collaboration.
