in my book
flight crew job search handbook there's
actually an a chapter associated with
being a professional pilot has many
aspects and this is used as a way to
construct yourself as you move through
your career
but generally you want to have a short
quick answer
that targets exactly what they're
looking for in a professional pilot and
be able to articulate it pretty easily
without really making it long because of
course there's many aspects of being a
professional pilot
but you could
you could use this definition and for
your consideration i will give you this
answer
a professional pilot has all the
components of every other pilot out
there being capable and skilled
knowledgeable healthy
and responsible but what what a
professional pilot does is they use
their talent skills and experience to
further the goals and the mission
statement of the company that they're
working for
many times pilots make the mistake in
thinking that it's all about them their
talents building their talents building
their skills building their experiences
and receiving compensation
the difference
in my belief of a professional pilot
which i feel a lot of candidates don't
understand is our mission is that of the
companies
because the company has a long heritage
and a long
history of safety improvements
and it's important that pilots adopt
those policies the standard operational
procedures the crm concepts threaten
error management and alike to accomplish
the goals of the airline which are
clearly written out in the company's
mission statement
and the flight operations manual safety
operational policy i believe that
adhering to these
separates amateur pilots from
professional pilots
does that sound good you could go on you
could actually say well a professional
pilot is um you know being polite and
well-dressed and complying with sops and
um showing up on time and being kind to
customers and going the extra mile and
all the small components of how you
accomplish something but what you're
really trying to accomplish is
furthering the company's mission
and of course they spend a lot of time
detailing their mission statements and
you can find these mission statements in
their website
their company cultural mission statement
and in their flight operations manual
their operational safety policy which is
the flight department's mission
statement
that's really the definition of a
professional pilot and that is what
exactly they are looking for when
they're asking you will this individual
work
to further the goals of our company or
not are they going to be self-centered
in their the way they operate or are
they gonna be
