place I fancy myself kind of a

connoisseur of hand Grinders I've owned

dozens and dozens and dozens of them and

I have made a plethora of videos of

Ultimate Showdown videos of Ultimate

comparisons and uh today I'm going to

kind of just put that all in one place

so that I can talk about any particular

situation you might be in to help guide

you to the hang grinder for you these

are the ones I kind of keep around me at

all times but there are plenty others I

no longer have that I've given away that

I do want to recommend in this video

today I wanted to go ahead and equip you

if you're looking for a new hang grinder

purchase this season now right off the

bat you're going to notice one

particular brand that stands out right

in front of me which is easy presso

spilled with a one Z presso I think the

most Innovative brand currently in the

world right now as far as their

widespread of selection as well as their

hitting of each individual Market they

have things in the budget range and

things in the premium range they have

things that are espresso focused light

roast dark Ross Focus uh filter focused

they kind of hit every little niche you

could absolutely think of we also have

here the Petro grinder which I've made

one video on and I don't really talk

about it often because I was in the

development of the pro Brew bur set of

this grinder now I personally think it

is by far if you want a luxury hand

grinder that you're probably not going

to travel much with but you like the

hand grind experience this in my opinion

is the best filter hand grinder on the

market I specifically made the burs to

be the best for filter my desire was to

beat out my favorite filter hand

Grinders and to beat out the fellow OD

with SSP multi-purpose burs and I did

not approve the burs until it did that

both on the on a blind cupping table and

with particle size distributions the

multi-purpose burds that it you can also

get it with are uh really great I did

not help develop those so I don't really

get anything for saying that they are

really great and I think they rival even

the best hand grinders for espresso but

now that I have set it I'm going to go

ahead and take it off because I don't

want to further blurry the lines with

the the bias that I do have with that

grinder there are different Realms of

potential markets within the hand

grinding space and you can be any one of

these Realms we're going to go ahead and

start off with budget options so a lot

of you are looking for a $50 hand

grinder or something along those lines

and when sales come around that's your

best bet at getting a really great

grinder at a really cheap price my top

recommendation if you can find it

without question is a king grinder k6

normally is not around 5060 $70 but

every so often like Black Friday sales

and random sales around the year you can

find them for under $100 pretty

regularly and the k6 grinder is

absolutely fantastic it has a 48 mm cone

bur in it that is the same bur

essentially as what is in the K series

from Easy presso which is another highly

recommended one for me it has a great

dialing system where you just twist the

the top it's none of that silly internal

click system which I cannot stomach

especially on more expensive hand

Grinders and it has a great burst set in

it it's very easy to use I talk about it

in my ultimate hand grinder video which

I will link right there but it does a

great job the K4 from King grinder is

also an awesome option but it is not

nearly as good with lightly roasted

coffees as the k6 k0 I don't really like

that much I would say maybe just get the

Ty more C2 over that then I believe

there's um K2 as well which does a good

job maybe that's similar to the C2 and

you can go either one there but in all

reality if you can find the k6 that one

is my favorite without question that one

at that price point it's very very hard

to beat when you find it under $100

another great option when you're looking

in the budget realm that is more

consistently cheaper are from time more

Grinders they have the C2 grinder which

does a great job now the C2 is more

geared towards medium and darker roasted

coffees and it's much smaller it's more

portable you can shove it into an air

press and you're good to go whereas the

K King grinder k6 can span more roast

levels but does really well and shines

mostly I found with medium to lightly

roasted coffees it can do both pourover

and espresso pretty easily same with the

time more C2 though that does skew to

Espresso into darker roed coffees it can

also do lios and it can also do por

overs they just are kind of both in

their own specific Realms the Q2

heptagonal from Easy presso it normally

runs at 99 so it's on the upper end of

that sub 100 obviously but you can

sometimes find them on sale uh but this

one is also fantastic and it's very

compact much more compact than the k6

this one does filter an espresso equally

well this one has a similar in Cut

profile as the k6 if you do the Q2

pentagonal that one's going to be more

similar to the C2 from time more it's

going to be more apt to darker roasted

coffees espresso things like that but

the Q2 heptagonal is lighter filter Etc

but can also do espresso with those

coffees you might suffer a little bit on

body but that's how those go and I would

stay away from the Hario skirt and I'd

stay away from ceramic bur hand Grinders

I would stay away from anything else

under that price point let's move on

let's talk about just filter focused and

espresso focused at two different tiers

of pricing we have espresso Focus this

is what a lot of people look for with

hand Grinders is they have like a flare

espresso machine and they want a hand

grinder to hit espresso at the lower in

you have the jeries from Easy presso you

can get some of those at around $10

to150 us these all have different

capabilities and I go over them in my

easy presso overview here uh one of the

big things to really take into account

is what the pitch is the thread pitch

when you're dialing in cuz you want nice

granularity obviously at the top of that

is the J Maxx but it's also the most

expensive one there where it has 8.8

microns per click but you don't need

that much granularity if you're really

trying to save money you might as well

go for something like the time War C2 or

the king grinder K4 and save a ton of

money I don't really see much of a need

to go more expensive than that unless

you're willing to jump up to something

like the quenu something like the jmax

or alternatively you could do something

like I said earlier the Petro with

multi-purpose burst but that's taking a

big jump in price another great one to

mention at the higher price point that

has a build quality to die for is the

orphan espresso their Leo grinder does

an absolutely fantastic job with both

espresso and filter of that medium style

coffee they have a big old cone bur

inside of it that is similar to what you

see from It's actually an ET Ander Burr

so it's similar to what you see in the

Bron aete it does an absolutely

fantastic job with incredible incredible

build quality and I do highly recommend

that as well so if you're looking for a

luxury espresso grinder I really would

narrow those options down to the Petro

to the kinu the jmaxx and to the orphan

espresso Leo those to me are kind of the

upper end of those options the Ettinger

ets1 or Si I think it's called that one

does a solid job it's easy to use but

it's very much espresso forward and very

much more medium to dark roast coffees

but if that's something if you take a

look at it you like the aesthetic you

know you can go with that I do have a

video on that as well that you can check

out which I'll link here you also have

something like the B+ grinder the Apollo

which is a much bigger and more

expensive grinder and it does fantastic

for espresso and darker roasted coffees

now if you're looking for a filter

forward grinder that is more luxurious

of course uh like I said earlier the

Petro but you also have the K series

from from easy presso now those are more

multi-purpose they do both espresso and

they do filter but a lot of people like

the filter from them more so than the

one I'm going to name which is the easy

presso zp6 now this for the longest time

was by far my favorite filter grinder

now it's not for everyone because the

clarity on it is really high and the

flavor Separation on it is really high

and a lot of people do tend to like a

little bit more Blended flavors I will

say that everyone I've recommended it to

with the exception of literally one

person and this goes for all the

comments I see online about it well all

say it's her favorite filter grinder but

it didn't do well in the Taiwanese

Market when first launched because

people thought it was too watery they

thought it was way too clear they wanted

more blending of their coffee flavors

that's why I include the K series here

even though it's not filter focused it

is more of a multi-purpose bur the zp6

is only filter you can't really do

espresso with it it produces very few

finds and gives you a really nice filter

cup of coffee at the luxury stage I

would actually still keep the Q2

heptagonal in the k6 there that's how

good they are I think that the zp6 the

Petro really just those two I think are

better than the C2 heptagonal and the k6

the biggest difference between the Q2

heptagonal and the K series is honestly

the luxury feel of them so the K series

I think is a bit easier to dial I think

it feels a lot better in the hand but in

the cut profile they may marginally be

better than say the Q2 but it's really

close this tastes to me almost identical

to a comodante C40 in the cup this one

does have the same type of dialing

system as the C40 but it's a third of

the price now there are even more

premium Grinders that we could really

talk about right now like the orphan

espresso Apex which is a filter only

grinder with massive ghost bird discs

inside of it but those run a lot more

expensive and honestly it's really

difficult to use and gives you a very

unique flavor profile in the cup and

it's something I would recommend if you

have the disposable income it might not

be the filter coffee profile you want

every day but it is a very unique one

let's say you're 80% filter 20% espresso

the K series from Easy presso is a great

option the K Ultra K Max k+ it's better

in my opinion at filter than it is at

espresso but it does a fantastic job

with espresso as well it's similar to

something like the commandante C40 which

I don't usually recommend because in my

opinion I think it's priced way too

highly for what it's giving you I think

you can get the cheapest entry level of

the K series from Easy press so it gives

you the same cut profile at a much

cheaper price with more intuitive grind

settings that doesn't force you to go

inside and twist which I absolutely

despise I just don't think it has the

same feel uh and and I don't think it

has the same ability of dialing that

some of these others do and it doesn't

really give you a step up in in grind

quality to be honest with you any of the

K series you're going to have a great

premium experience with multi-purpose

use whether that's espresso or filter

outside of that again you can go back to

that King grinder k6 and of course I'm

going to be skewing towards more lightly

roasted coffees when ever you're wanting

to do something more medium or dark

that's when you can look at a lot of the

time Moes they have a really premium one

with their Chestnut X that's an

incredibly premium hand grinder I

absolutely love the feel in fact it

might be my favorite feeling grinder out

there but it's definitely more uh for

those people looking for uh the

experience of uh a medium to darker

roasted coffee more more espresso

forward Etc but it does a fantastic job

you also have stuff like the Maser Omega

which does a good job with the medium to

darker roasted coffees but but again at

the price point I think you're better

off with one of the ones I've mentioned

earlier now there are some interesting

Grinders that are on the market that are

like dual cone bur Grinders I've tried a

couple of these um one of my ultimate

Grinders showdown in another one a

little bit more recently and even though

in theory those should be really nice

really good I've not really been very

impressed with those so as of now I

still wouldn't necessarily recommend

those over any of the ones I've already

mentioned today you also have the

massive ones like the hg2 from Weber

workshops or the one from Craig Lynn

those cost you know closer to $800 to

$1,000 to $1,200 those are massive 83 mm

conical hand Grinders incredibly luxury

type goods and ones that very few people

tend to really look into you also have

the fixie from morphan espresso which is

a really cool one that's very specific

to people who are hiking to traveling

that don't want to like mess around with

a lot of the uh different changes in

your grind setting and whatnot it's just

you know you set it you go that's why

it's called a fixie you can check that
