struggling why was it struggling I think

I'll repeat it here again Reagan came

and he was bristling with Star Wars this

was an initiative that was a favorite

one of his and they were basically

trying to match uh USSR and they were

trying to Output them forcing them to

spend more and more more money in their

satellite technology Star Wars was

supposed to be everything to do with

satellites and the space a lot of money

got pumped in in fact one of the summer

projects I worked as a master student

was funded by this program but be that

as it may so the United States was

applying pressure trying to force the

USSR into spending more and more money

money that they did not have

simultaneously the pressure was being

built to drive the crude price lower and

lower in fact I remember summer of

1986 at the pump in United States it was

53 cents to a gallon you do the math

guys unbelievably cheap that summer I

had a lot of fun we I drove with my

roommate all length and breadth of

United States very very cheap gas and

that translated to around $13 a barrel

and at that point of time the crude that

USSR was exporting out of its Ural

Mountains was the biggest uh generator

of economy and when the price of crude

dropped so steeply they were forced to

take some hard calls for example get out

that happened so without firing a bullet

the United States won its war against

USSR and during this time you know there
