Activity-based Spawn Rates is an innovative feature introduced in the update that adjusts the spawn rates of resources, mobs, and treasures based on server activity. Transcripts

play00:06

Welcome to another Albion Online Dev Talk.Ā  Today I'm thrilled to introduce our next update,Ā Ā

play00:13

Paths to Glory, coming in July 2024. The updateĀ  derives its name from its key feature: the AlbionĀ Ā

play00:20

Journal. The Journal challenges players to takeĀ  on increasingly difficult tasks in different areasĀ Ā

play00:27

of Albion gameplay and receive unique rewardsĀ  to show off their success. There's quite a bitĀ Ā

play00:33

of content to go through for the Journal, and weĀ  have plenty of other topics to talk about today,Ā Ā

play00:38

so the details will be covered at length in ourĀ  next Dev Talk. What else do we have in this videoĀ Ā

play00:43

then? Well, with Paths to Glory we tried to focusĀ  on including specific community requests you madeĀ Ā

play00:50

in comments to our recent Dev Talks and,Ā  while we're still working on many of them,Ā Ā

play00:55

there's a number of community-inspired featuresĀ  that already made it into this update. First up,Ā Ā

play01:01

we're allowing guilds to own multiple islands -Ā  one per Royal City. We've taken the opportunityĀ Ā

play01:07

to introduce city-specific looks for each GuildĀ  Island, so now you'll have a snowy island for yourĀ Ā

play01:13

guild in Fort Sterling, or lush forest if you'reĀ  based in Lymhurst. Another frequently-requestedĀ Ā

play01:19

feature included is the ability to overchargeĀ  twice in order to prolong the overcharge durationĀ Ā

play01:25

at a higher risk of breaking the item after theĀ  total period. This should help the ZvZ communityĀ Ā

play01:31

in prolonged fights, while leaving the restĀ  of the game mostly unaffected. A nice littleĀ Ā

play01:37

change is the ability to use all spells on Tier 4Ā  weapons, taking an unnecessary complexity out ofĀ Ā

play01:43

the character build system and opening up moreĀ  gameplay variety with lower-tier weapons. AlsoĀ Ā

play01:49

at a community request, we're introducing a PartyĀ  Ready Check function. This helps party leaders toĀ Ā

play01:55

see when their group is ready to set out intoĀ  the world of Albion or tackle the next bossĀ Ā

play02:00

in the dungeon. Other improvements include theĀ  introduction of Corrupted Dungeon maps, three newĀ Ā

play02:06

activity events for Roads, Mists, and Tracking,Ā  and better filtering options in the rankings.Ā Ā

play02:13

We've also significantly improved the usability ofĀ  the Destiny Board by rescaling it and allowing youĀ Ā

play02:18

to further zoom in and out on the desktop version.Ā  Our most requested topic, and the one we spent theĀ Ā

play02:25

most of our thought and energy on, was improvingĀ  the Roads of Avalon. This posed quite a challenge,Ā Ā

play02:31

however. We didn't have a whole lot of specificĀ  feedback to go on, and what we had was in vastlyĀ Ā

play02:37

different directions. So we took some time toĀ  analyze the data and think about the topic. OurĀ Ā

play02:43

data showed that the activity - both PVE and PVPĀ  - in the Roads was higher than it has been for aĀ Ā

play02:49

very long time, but at the same time many of youĀ  complained that you weren't finding the contentĀ Ā

play02:54

you were looking for. This was a challenge for usĀ  because it told us many of you are looking for aĀ Ā

play03:00

completely different experience in the Roads thanĀ  what they were designed to be: an extension of theĀ Ā

play03:06

open world creating connections between placesĀ  and offering opportunities for small groups,Ā Ā

play03:11

but not as an action-packed instanced content likeĀ  The Mists. Finally, we came to the conclusion thatĀ Ā

play03:18

we're going to continue to see the Roads of AvalonĀ  as what we intended them to be. We still see theĀ Ā

play03:24

need for an accessible, action-packed, small-groupĀ  oriented feature, but we don't think the RoadsĀ Ā

play03:29

are the right place to offer it. Therefore we'veĀ  decided to improve what we have for the playersĀ Ā

play03:35

who are already enjoying it, and here's whatĀ  we're changing. We're standardizing the tiersĀ Ā

play03:40

of all mobs in specific Road sections to make itĀ  easier to know whether you're in the right placeĀ Ā

play03:46

to find the content you're looking for. Next, weĀ  made sure that Tier 4 Roads are primarily foundĀ Ā

play03:52

when entering from the Blue and Yellow Zones,Ā  while entering from Red and Black zones typicallyĀ Ā

play03:58

gets you into a Tier 6 Road directly. Tier 8 RoadsĀ  are now exclusive to Deep Roads and Raid Clusters.Ā Ā

play04:05

Talking about Raid Clusters, we've increased theĀ  quantity of these specific clusters to make sureĀ Ā

play04:11

Hideouts in the Roads connect to these moreĀ  frequently, but we've also sprinkled in a fewĀ Ā

play04:16

connections to these from non-Hideout clusters toĀ  increase competition in them. Next, we took a lookĀ Ā

play04:23

at the reward balancing and content distribution.Ā  We've reduced the amount of spots dedicated toĀ Ā

play04:28

gathering, but we've increased the respawn rate ofĀ  resources accordingly, so the total output remainsĀ Ā

play04:34

the same. We've used the space gained to addĀ  additional PVE spots which we've also rebalancedĀ Ā

play04:40

slightly, bringing down their Fame rewardsĀ  but increasing their loot rewards to ensureĀ Ā

play04:45

the Roads are not quite as powerful for levelingĀ  as they were whilst hopefully making them moreĀ Ā

play04:49

competitive with other forms of loot generation.Ā  One more piece of feedback we want to react to isĀ Ā

play04:56

the lack of content in the Roads. To addressĀ  this, we've brought Tracking into the Roads,Ā Ā

play05:02

and while we we're at it we also introduced oneĀ  more rare Tracking mob you can hunt down forĀ Ā

play05:07

loot. Additionally, we're introducing a key newĀ  feature to the world of Albion: activity-basedĀ Ā

play05:14

spawn rates. What this means is that we will makeĀ  a profile of each server by measuring the activityĀ Ā

play05:21

at each point in time. We will then adjust spawnĀ  rates for resources, mobs, and treasures, as wellĀ Ā

play05:27

as their upgrades based on this activity profile.Ā  This means that during the server's Prime Time youĀ Ā

play05:33

should have an easier time finding content thanĀ  you had before, whilst players hoping to exploitĀ Ā

play05:38

the low activity times for massive rewards willĀ  find them more scarcely. We're making sure notĀ Ā

play05:43

to go all-out with this adjustment, so off-timesĀ  will still see a little more content per player,Ā Ā

play05:49

but the amount of content will certainly beĀ  better-matched to the player activity. All-in-all,Ā Ā

play05:55

these changes are an iteration on theĀ  concept of the Roads, not a revolution.Ā Ā

play06:00

We'll observe how they affect the way theĀ  content is played, and will continue toĀ Ā

play06:04

think about a new way to offer more reliableĀ  small-scale PVP content which we believeĀ Ā

play06:10

many players were asking for when requestingĀ  improvements to the Roads. Finally, of course,Ā Ā

play06:16

this update also introduces the next batchĀ  of Crystal Weapons. The all-new Twin Slayers:Ā Ā

play06:22

a pair of crystal Daggers which can create a ringĀ  of spinning blades that can be recalled back toĀ Ā

play06:27

the caster, cutting through all enemies in theirĀ  path. The Dreadstorm Monarch: the new crystalĀ Ā

play06:35

Mace which can use its Eye of the Storm ability toĀ  create a growing storm around you, slowing enemiesĀ Ā

play06:41

and shredding their resistances. And finally,Ā  the Exalted Staff: the new crystal Holy Staff.Ā Ā

play06:48

Its unique ability can remove enemy ground areasĀ  like Sacred Ground. These three weapons will beĀ Ā

play06:55

available in the upcoming season's Conqueror'sĀ  Chests, and remember, as we're introducing theseĀ Ā

play07:01

weapons over time the total amount of ArtifactĀ  items dropped in each season's chest goes up,Ā Ā

play07:07

while each specific Artifact becomes more rare.Ā  That means these chests are becoming more valuableĀ Ā

play07:13

with each season until we're finished with theĀ  last set of Crystal Weapons. As you can see,Ā Ā

play07:19

the update is quite packed with features andĀ  adjustments, and we haven't even mentionedĀ Ā

play07:23

the visual reworks of Scythes and Quarter StaffĀ  base animations, and the many balance adjustmentsĀ Ā

play07:29

coming with the update. We also haven't gottenĀ  to the heart of the update: the Journal and theĀ Ā

play07:34

unique rewards you can earn by completing it. SoĀ  don't miss our upcoming Dev Talk where we'll coverĀ Ā

play07:41

these in depth, and of course we're hoping you'llĀ  join us for the release of Paths to Glory in July.
