📸 Understanding Your Ideal Instagram Audience
Identifying your ideal Instagram audience is crucial for DJs and producers to create effective content. Many fail to consider their target audience, leading to ineffective growth strategies on Instagram. This section discusses the importance of knowing your audience, creating content tailored to them, and the pitfalls of not doing so. Emphasis is placed on making content for the audience rather than for oneself, as well as the need to educate, entertain, inspire, or connect with viewers. It also mentions the common mistake of posting personal content that may not resonate with a DJ's fan base.
📝 Planning and Strategizing Content
Planning content is essential for maintaining consistency and narrative flow. DJs should write down 30 content ideas and plan them around significant events like gigs or releases. Pete Griffis' analogy emphasizes not to panic and post, but to plan first. Batch recording content and maintaining continuity with branded merchandise can also help. Additionally, knowing your audience's activity times through insights is crucial for maximizing engagement. Active engagement, such as liking comments before posting and going live on Instagram after posting, can boost engagement and reach.

Transcripts
who is your ideal Instagram audience
member as a DJ and producer this is one
of the big stumbling blocks for DJs when
trying to create content and trying to
get growth on Instagram either they
don't consider it or they're just post
content without even thinking about who
the person they're trying to post for
which isn't going to help your growth
and it isn't going to help you grow on
Instagram in 2022 and 2023. today I'm
going to chat about knowing your
audience and knowing who your ideal fan
is as a DJing producer and then the
types of content you could make for
Instagram as a DJ music producer in 2022
2023 recently the Disco shared I chatted
about the Instagram algorithm and how
it's changed once again oh no not again
did you see that video if you didn't
I'll link to it above and below go and
check it out it's really important watch
it it'll give you loads of stuff for how
to improve on Instagram one of the big
things I talked about in that video is
audience and understand who your
audience is and that's what I want to
talk about today the big thing is
getting your head around is who your
audience is but also you're making
content for your audience not for
yourself and so many people make content
from themselves and then when they don't
make it for Their audience they wonder
why they're not going forward and not
going fan base people are selfish and
always remember this and the most
important things is when you're trying
to make content is that people always
want to be either educated entertained
inspired or they're trying to connect
with their mates most people when they
start on a brand new platform is they
use the invite all and they connect with
all their mates and they start posting
content that's kind of just them and
themselves and they're connecting their
mates loads and it's all about
themselves and what they're up to and
their food and their family and their
nights out or whatever and their mates
are then really connected to that piece
of content then you might see some other
little bit growth from that but
essentially when you start changing into
I'm talking about you as a DJ and
promoting yourself and pushing yourself
forward as a DJ producer your content
flips and therefore then your audience
is going to change and that original
audience is not going to be the audience
you might want because they can't come
to all your gigs and not as interested
when you're talking about the latest
tech house track they just want to turn
up because you're your mate and it's a
bit of a pitfall to fall into kind of
inviting everyone in straight away the
best thing to do when you're starting as
a DJ is have an account just for that
and have a brand new account just for
that and if you're starting at zero I
would definitely do that don't change a
personal into a business start a brand
new with zero and it might be a bit
daunting but let we can do it with the
right content and push forward recently
we restarted someone in May and by by
August they've got to 1500 followers
just by driving forward with their
content the second big thing is when
you've got just your family or your
friends on and they are not into that
content that you're putting out there
then they're going to swipe past it if
they don't want to come to every gig
they're going to swipe past it they're
not going to like it they're not going
to comment and that's a negative
inflection on your account which you
don't want because it just pushes the
content down for those that don't know
your content gets shown to a small
percent of your audience if your
audience are into it or in the right
locations for it and just don't need to
know what you're talking about then it
gets your content gets shrunk so getting
your audience right and getting your
ideal fan right is so key then what
happens is you'll hit a bit of a dip
with your engagement and hit a dip with
your growth and this is what actually
solado had to happen to them they
tweeted they've got so much low reach
and I made a video on it 11 ways they
can improve their age if you didn't see
that one again I'll link to that above
and below some of their audience I think
might have got kind of older because
they've been a long time and they've
kind of grown up with Salado and they're
now 10 years deeper but they're they're
now in different place to where they
were 10 years ago they're not raving as
much they're not into the music as much
they're not partying all the time so
they need to re-change their focus and
re-change their plan because their
audience had changed from what it was 10
years ago so start a brand new one or if
you if you've got your DJ page make sure
it's connected to your Facebook and
start cross-posting content across both
pages but making sure they're both DJ
focused and all the audience in there is
on there because they're about your DJ
and they're following you as a DJ and
producer when you start out making
content as a teacher in producer I see
it as you're fishing in two pools first
pull is other producers and other
producers that they're gonna become your
peers maybe they're gonna maybe you're
gonna collab with them maybe they're
into the same music as you the second
pull is people that are into music
generally they go to festivals they go
to Raves they're like DJs they like DJ
culture and there's these two pools and
they overlap some and you definitely
overlap in both those pools because
you're a DJ and a producer so you're
starting to make content to fit into
both those pools it's definitely wise
because you want to try and pull
audience from both those poor and of
course then your actual mates might fit
into that second pool of DJ producer
fans because again they could be come
along with you and they are the kind of
into music and Inter festivals in
different clubs so then they would fit
into that group of people so you start
making content for those types of people
the two types of pools and what you want
to try and do is you want to try and
make content that fits across all the
surfaces of the platform and when I mean
Services I mean things like posts reels
live stories you've got all these
surfaces and you can use them
differently and you you should use them
differently for the different types of
content you might create now we know our
two pots are people either other
producers or people that just love DJs
and music now we need to start thinking
about the content what those people are
into and really broadening down what
those who the ideal people are in those
pots and I would definitely sit down and
make a list of things they might be into
and those might be like and how that
maybe crosses over to what you like and
what you're into always when you're
making content it's you plus the type of
content equals the bigger result and
then once you've done that you have then
got your ideal fan and once you've done
that you can then start planning out
your content a big warning to yourself
is if you think oh I need to post today
please please don't sit down write down
30 ideas of new content ideas and plan
them out and then it pushes your content
in the right way and it keeps The
Narrative of your content and it kind of
flows the content but also if you're
trying to focus your content around
certain points maybe you've got a big
gig or maybe you've got a release and
you're trying to build content around
those points it keeps the consistency
and it also keeps the kind of narrative
where you're going with your content and
the drive of your content don't panic
and post sit down and plan first this is
a lovely analogy that Pete Griffis said
when I told him the exact this exact
moment on an interview with I had with
him for the tourum Academy alumni
recently and I loved it so I'm nicking
it thanks Pete but I think it sums it up
perfectly let's repeat that don't panic
and post sit down and plan first I might
even get that on t-shirts let me know in
the comments if you blink one in the
T-shirt or on a wall as a poster once
you've then planned your content try and
batch record loads of it change outfits
if you need one of the lovely things I
have is I've made my own merch range and
I've my own merch range so that all the
time I've either got a DT t-shirt which
is black or DT jumper a DT hoodie and it
allows me to keep the continuity of my
content but also means I don't got
change outfits because I'm always
wearing the same stuff also gives me a
nice little headspace when I wake up I
haven't choose what I'm wearing I just
go and get another black T-shirt out and
if you haven't checked out our full
merch range I'll link to it below it's
coming to Christmas go and grab yourself
a new t-shirt for someone that you love
especially if they love data
transmission as much as we do and the
final tip for today is know your
insights know when your people are
online know when people are active on of
your fan base online look at your
insights study them learn what's working
learn what's not working learn what's
what you're getting reaction for you can
actually look on each post of the
insights of each post monitor them and
see what works and what what content
does work and then you can always repeat
it and repurpose it being active on the
apps before you go on post I for
instance got heart loads of my previous
comments giving a little to Hearts
because then it gives them a
notification that I've hearted their
comment and then I go and post my
content and they'll go and see that
content because of other notification
another little cheeky hack there
similarly going live on Instagram live
just after you posted gives you a
massive engagement Spike and pushes the
reach of all your current posts so if
you just post it real then you go live
and a lot of people see you on live and
interact with your live again then
they'll see your post this will be
working lovely for me recently and you
don't need to perform on there you don't
need to DJ 80 of people said they don't
watch DJ streams anyway on Instagram
just sit and chat with your community
and build that reputable Community ask
them questions find out more about them
because then when you run and find out
more about the audience you'll then know
what content is going to work for them
test and learn all the time and live is
a great platform for this what do you
think who is your ideal audience member
have you ever thought about it have you
considered it should we try and build a
picture in the comments post some of the
things that your audience members might
like so let's talk about it in the
comments below let's try and build this
picture of an ideal audience member that
likes DJs and producers I love to do
that and we can share with all the kind
of people in the comments and everyone
that watches these videos do you need to
up your Instagram game do you need a
stronger social media game in general do
you want to learn how to grow on Spotify
and SoundCloud and make better content
well my course the artist blueprint does
exactly that it teaches you how to grow
so across all these platforms and helps
you get more music signs and it helps
you get more gigs as a DJ producer and
if you think that's for you and you want
in then jump on a discovery call with me
on the call we just talk about what
you're doing now where you want to get
to and if the bit in the middle is the
course then we'll go through the course
if it's not right for you right then
that doesn't matter I'll give you some
videos and some stuff to go away with so
you can keep progressing I'd love to see
on a call I'd love to talk about you
more about it again I'll put the link
below if you've enjoyed this content
