today I'm going to be looking at this

this is the beta fpv Aquilla 16 and it

comes as a ready to fly kit to help

beginners get started in the fpv hobby

now this is actually quite nostalgic for

me because when I first started to learn

fpv I learned with a similar kit like

this actually also from beta fpv and a

full disclosure beter fpv did reach out

to me and offer to send me this k out

for free for review but I've not been

paid in any way for this video and my

opinions and my own I can say whatever I

like about it now one of the reasons I

wanted to show you guys this is because

it's a cheaper option of getting into

the fpv hob things like the DJI evat and

the IAT 2 they're actually quite

expensive when it comes to just if you

wanted to just try out fpv and see if

you like it or not something like this

is much more affordable and it's a much

more budget friendly way of getting into

the fpv hobby so let's start off by

covering what comes in the kit and we'll

have a look at this little guy and if my

voice sounds a bit dodgy I've been a bit

sick for the past couple of weeks so

finally starting to get over it so

hopefully it holds up throughout this

video so the kit comes in a really nice

carry case which holds everything in

place and keeps everything nice and

protected you also get a really nice

little beta f PV light Radio 2 SE which

is running elrs transmission protocol

now elrs is a really high quality radio

link it's what I actually use on my

other fpv drones so it's really nice to

see that on this little guy here you

also get a set of analog fpv box goggles

now because this is a more budget

friendly option we get a more budget

friendly set of goggles but these

Goggles do actually have an inbuilt DVR

which allows you to record your flight

footage onto an SD card in the goggles

so you can play it back and watch it

later now a quick thing to bear in mind

only supports up to a 64 gig memory card

in the goggles so don't try and put

anything bigger than that in there

because you won't be able to record your

flights now like I just mentioned this

drone is running an analog video

transmission system so it's not that new

high defition HD digital systems that we

have but it's a nice and cheap analog

system which gives us a good enough

picture quality to fly around the house

fly around the garden it's plenty good

enough for a drone like this so you

should be fine it's also going to help

you appreciate digital systems even more

when you move on to that it's also

really nice just to come back and fly

analog I find it really nostalgic and

people all the races and all that still

use analog cuz it's got really low

latency transmission so moving on to the

Drone we have a really nice little one

cell tiny up with prop gas to protect

the Drone and to also protect all the

things that you're inevitably going to

crash into now it's also got a kind of

new clip in battery design normally you

have a battery lead that you plug in

somewhere on the Drone but this it's all

built in and you just push it and click

it into place and then the Drone turns

on there's no on andof switch as soon as

you push the battery in it turns on now

when you first get this and you first

putting the battery in it will be a bit

tight for the first couple of fits but

after a couple of uses it's absolutely

fine and to take it off you just pull it

out like that nice and easy this drone

has also got brushless motors as opposed

to running brush motors so we got nice

high power motors there even though it's

only a 1s quad still got plenty of power

for its size and up front we have the

camera and VTX the video transmission

system is actually capable of up to 350

Ms of transmission power so you're going

to get plenty of range for this little

guy and the camera angle is adjustable

it's not adjustable by very much but on

something like this you're going to be

flying it really slowly anyway so you

don't really need to move the camera

angle all that much so going back to the

batteries they are 1100 Mah one cell

batteries and they charge using this

really nice little USBC charger you just

use the provided cables to plug into the

charger and then connect to the battery

and the battery charger actually also

doubles as a battery tester if you put

it in the test port it will show you the

voltage reading of the battery with

around 3.3 being empty and 4.25 4.3

being full just be careful when you're

plugging and unplugging the battery not

to pull too much on the little cables as

you can damage them that way so try and

hold on to the connector and pull it off

that way that's all the sort of

technical details now it's going to

actually use in this guy so first thing

we're going to do we're going to power

on the radio then we're going to plug

the drone's battery in and we're just

going to let it sit there on a nice flat

level surface so it calibrates now when

the blue light is flashing really fast

it's calibrating then once it stops

flashing the Drone has calibrated and

you're ready to start flying then power

on your goggles now all of this stuff

does come preconnected from the factory

but you might have to just search for

the video transmission signal on the

goggles and you do that by just pressing

and holding on the S button for a couple

of seconds then the goggles is going to

go into its Auto search function and

it's going to find the video signal

coming out of this drone and once you've

picked up the signal you're ready to go

now this kit is aimed at taking you from

a complete beginner who has never done

any sort of fpv anything to being

somebody who can completely comfortably

fly in manual mode now because of that

we have three different flight modes and

three different speeds in each of those

flight modes so I'm going to break it

down you have normal you have Sport and

you have manual mode and in each of

those mode you have slow medium and fast

speeds so normal is where you're going

to want to begin if you've never flown

any kind of fpv before it's the most

assisted mode so the Drone is going to

self-level whenever you release the

sticks and it's also going to hold

altitude and position now this drone has

a very highly sensitive barometer and it

also has downwards facing sensors which

allow it to detect its height above the

ground and also look down and help it to

hold position and from my experience

this actually works remarkably well for

such a budget drone like this it will

just sit there hold position pretty well

and it does sort of Bobble up and down a

little bit I did a test where I put a

full battery in set it to hover and just

watched it and it basically stayed in

the same place it just went up and down

a little bit as it was sort of trying to

maintain a set altitude but for

something as budget friendly as this it

really did a really good job and it's

going to help you overcome that first

step of throttle management because you

can just focus on controlling the Drone

and figuring out how all the controls

work before you have to actively manage

the throttle which is what comes next in

sport mode now in nor mode you have

those three speed settings so slow is

going to be the slowest the Drone is

going to move at its slowest speed and

then you got medium and fast and as you

go faster and faster the Drone is just

going to move faster and faster then you

move into sports mode now sports mode

basically takes away the sort of

altitude and position hold and now gives

you Full Throttle management control so

it's still stabilized the Drone will

still want to come back to a level

position but you have to actively manage

the throttle to keep the drone at the

same altitude and all that good stuff so

this basically just takes you to the

Next Step so you're going to be learning

how to fly the Drone more completely

while you're managing the throttle while

it's alsoo flying around but it's still

going to self stabilize to give you a

helping hand now like normal mode we

have slow medium and fast speeds in

sports mode and it's really nice to just

fly around in sports mode in the house

nicely stabilized and yeah it's a good

Next Step from normal mode then moving

on from spot mode you have full manual

mode now that's basically no assisted

modes there you are just basically

flying the Drone completely manually

like a normal fbv drone so this doesn't

come back to self steadying anymore if

you put it this way it's going to stay

in the angle until you physically input

a maneuver to correct it now you can fly

around in manually inside the house in

slow medium and even fast speed when you

sort of get used to the things you can

make a little courses like I did make a

little race course around the house to

just practice flying it's loads of fun

now you can take this guy outside but

try and make sure if you're going

outside it's a very calm day because if

there's any sort of wind this is only a

little 1 s tiny up it's going to get

blown around a lot I took it out on a

windy day just to see how it does and it

does get blown around an awful lot so

try and keep it calm or just stay in

your backyard or stay inside and you'll

have a great time with it and once

you're fully used to manual mode you can

even throw in a few flips and rolls and

you can really start to have a lot of

fun with this guy so let's get on to

some more of my personal thoughts on

this kit Now Beta fpv claim that you get

around 8 minutes of flight time on the

included battery and on a hover test I

actually got just over 8 minutes of

flight time now when I'm flying around

the house just sort of in manual mode or

whatever I'm averaging in around 6 to 6

and 1/2 minutes of flight time obviously

I'm flying this a lot more sprightly

than you would be in maybe normal or

sport mode but even still 6 and 1 12

minutes of flight time on a little 1s

whoop it's really impressive so great

job on that and it is a pretty big

battery it's an 1100 Milli 1s but flies

really nicely and I've got no complaints

of battery life on the Aquilla 16

something else that's really cool as

well actually these LED lights when the

battery starts to get low it actually

starts to flash red so if you're flying

line of sight you can also know your

batter is getting low and it's time to

land something else that I like I really

like that everything charges via USBC so

you don't need a different charger for

your radio your goggles and your

batteries they all just charged by USBC

it's dead easy just plug them in charge

them up and you're good to go now this

drone also has Turtle mode now what

turtle mode means is when you crash and

you're upside down you can flick a few

switches and you can get the Drone to

come back to being the right way up so

to use this on the Aquilla 16 it's a

little bit different you flick the arm

switch and then you flick the turtle

mode switch which is the lower switch on

the right hand side then you just move

the control sticks one way or the other

and the Drone will flip over back the

right way up and you can continue to fly

now something a lot of people worry

about is turtle mod putting a lot of

extra load on the ESC and stuff I must

have total modow this thing 50 60 70

times and it's still absolutely fine no

magic smoke has come out of it total

mode works really well I use it honestly

I can't even count how many times I've

smashed this thing into the wall on

purpose and by accident just doing

testing but really solid little guy

super durable but I'll get on to that a

bit more in a second something you do

need to bear in mind is if you're trying

to do turtle mode make sure that you do

flick the arm switch before the turtle

mode switch if you flick the turtle mode

switch without the arm switch on it

actually changes the video output signal

of the Drone so you're going to lose

that image in your goggles it's all

going to go static you can regain it

again just by pressing and holding the

search function so it searches and

regains the video signal but just make

sure you arm it before you flick the

turtle switch if you're trying to do

turtle mode okay let's talk about

durability because this being a beginner

kit it's got to be durable and I can

safely say this is an extrem extremely

durable little quad I must have crashed

this thing on purpose and by accident

coming up to a 100 times honestly I've

smashed this thing into the wall into

solid objects it's bounced off the walls

and floor and everywhere in my house and

it's been absolutely fine I haven't even

broken a prop which is absolutely

ridiculous honestly the durability on

this thing absolutely phenomenal which

it should be and I'm very happy to say

that it is something to BR in mind if

you are crashing this a lot and you're

using one of the stabilized modes so

normal or sport mode after a few crashes

you can actually that are off the

calibration so you'll notice the Drone

starts to drift instead of staying in a

nice level orientation now to correct

that you just need to recalibrate the

Drone you can do that by either uh Power

cycling it so take the battery out plug

the battery back in and lay it on a flat

surface to recalibrate or you can

actually just go into the OSD menu so

without the Drone arm just push the left

stick to the left and push the right

stick upwards this will put you into the

uh betaf flight OSD menu then you just

want to select option by pushing the

right stick to the right and then you

want to just select Cali Pro Pro by

pushing again the right stick to the

right that's going to set the aircraft

to do a calibration make sure it's on a

nice level surface and then once the

calibration is done that menu is going

to disappear and you're going to be

ready to fly again something else you

can do with the fbv controller you can

also connect that to your computer and

use it with a flight simulator if you

want to practice flying in manual mode a

bit more and it's also something that's

going to be really handy for sort of

future proofing your flying so when you

decide to move on to something maybe a

bit bigger than this you can train in

the simulator and just have more fun and

be more prepared for your next steps but

also it's going to give you loads of

practice for flying this guy and if you

want a recommendation for a simulator I

personally use veloc drone I've been

using it for I don't know well over a

year now and I have no complaints with

it really nice accurate simulator so

yeah check that one out if you're in the

market for Sim the next thing I really

like is I really like the carrying case

I like how everything is just so compact

in one piece and it's really protected

everything is veled in so it's not

jiggling around and not moving I love

the carry case nice and discreet great

work okay let's get on to some of the

Nega ative things about this guy now one

of the things is going to be the dynamic

range on the camera now if you're flying

outdoors and you're sort of close to

Sunrise or Sunset when you're flying

into the Sun the camera does tend to

struggle with a dynamic range so a lot

of things are going to look quite dark

and it can make it difficult for you to

see so to get around this you basically

want to be flying it throughout the

middle of the day or try and just avoid

pointing it directly into sort of that

bright sunlight because the dynamic

range does struggle a little bit if

you're flying indoors or in your

backyard or anything it's absolutely

fine there are no issues with it but if

you're flying outside and you've got a

really bright source of light like the

sun you can struggle a little bit to see

things in sort of Darker shaded areas

something else that I've also notice is

if you have a really sort of hard

head-on crash you can actually lose

video signal now I'm not sure what's

happening here but I think with a sort

of heavy impact it causes the VTX to

sort of skip a Channel or something CU

if you click search again on the goggles

it will find the video signal but

sometimes on a really hard impact you

can just sort of shake things up and the

video signal tends to be lost on the

goggles but it's easy to get it back

again just by pressing the search

function so yeah it's not a real Biggie

and it only tends to happen on a really

really big impact something else I did

is on the goggles I actually sanded down

the nose area a little bit I found that

when it came from Factory it had quite a

sort of sharp edge on it so I just took

a bit of sandpaper and smooth that off a

bit just to make it a bit more

comfortable on the nose apart from that

the goggles are really nice and

comfortable to wear as box goggles go no

issues with them whatsoever so I'm more

than happy with that so who is this kit

actually for well if you can already fly

fbv comfortably in manual mode

this Kit's not for you but if you're a

complete beginner to fpv you sort of

thinking oh I would like to try that out

but I don't want to spend too much money

something like this is going to be

absolutely perfect for dipping your toes

into the fpv hobby it's really durable

it's got all those features to take you

from a complete beginner all the way up

to Flying nicely in manual mode you can

fly it around your house you can fly

around your garden and it's honestly

it's such a durable little machine it's

going to withstand the test of time when

it comes to your punishment on it and

yeah so this is aim that people who have

never flown FP PV before and would like

to get a really nice budget friendly way

of trying it out and getting their toes

wear so i' just like to say once again a
