๐Ÿ• Israeli Actions Against Palestinian Christians

This paragraph discusses the Israeli government's portrayal as a defender of Western civilization against Islamist extremists, specifically Hamas. It contrasts this image with the reality of Israel's attacks on Palestinian Christians, including the bombing of a church compound in Gaza and the killing of Christian Palestinians. The narrative highlights the lack of attention given to Palestinian Christians in the West and the restrictions imposed by Israeli policies on their religious freedom, as reported by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom. The paragraph also introduces Reverend Dr. Mona Isaac, an academic dean at the Bethlehem Bible College, who provides firsthand accounts of the suffering of Palestinian Christians and the lack of international outrage.

05:02

๐Ÿ”ช Escalating Violence Against Palestinian Christians in the West Bank

The second paragraph delves into the increase of violence against Palestinian Christians in the West Bank, with specific incidents of attacks on clergy, churches, and cemeteries. It emphasizes that these acts of violence are not merely from fringe groups but are enabled by a broader structure that offers them protection. The narrative challenges the common narrative that blames Hamas and Islamic extremism for the exodus of Palestinian Christians, arguing instead that it is the harsh realities of life under Israeli occupation, including land confiscation and restrictive family registration systems, that drive this migration. The paragraph also touches on the feelings of betrayal by Christian evangelicals in the US, who are perceived to support Israel over their fellow Christian Palestinians.

10:04

๐Ÿ“– Christian Zionism and Its Impact on Palestinian Christians

This paragraph explores the role of Christian Zionism in shaping American evangelical support for Israel, despite the adverse effects on Palestinian Christians. It discusses the deep-rooted beliefs that tie American Christian identity to support for Israel, and the ignorance about the realities on the ground. The speaker calls for a shift in focus from end-times theology to the sanctity of human life and the need for faith leaders to hold politicians accountable for their policies. The paragraph also addresses the issue of black and Latino evangelicals, who do not share the same views as their white counterparts and have shown support for Gaza.

Keywords

๐Ÿ’กIsraeli government

The Israeli government in the video script refers to the ruling authority in Israel. It is portrayed as attempting to position itself as a defender of Western civilization against perceived threats from Islamist groups. The script challenges this narrative by highlighting the Israeli military's actions against Palestinian Christians, suggesting a contradiction between the government's claims and its actions.

๐Ÿ’กWestern Civilization

Western Civilization is a broad term used to describe the cultural, political, and social systems originating from Europe and influencing many parts of the world. In the script, it is mentioned in the context of the Israeli government's alleged portrayal of itself as a bulwark against threats to this civilization, specifically from Islamist groups.

๐Ÿ’กIslamist

Islamist refers to someone who supports the integration of Islamic values and principles into a state's governance. The script uses the term to describe groups that the Israeli government claims to be fighting against, but it questions this by pointing out the Israeli military's actions against Palestinian Christians, suggesting a more complex situation than a simple 'us versus them' narrative.

๐Ÿ’กHamas

Hamas is the acronym for 'Islamic Resistance Movement', a Palestinian political organization with a military wing. It is considered by some as a terrorist organization, while others view it as a resistance movement. The script mentions Hamas as the group that the Israeli government claims to be fighting, but it also points out the impact of Israeli actions on Palestinian Christians.

๐Ÿ’กPalestinian Christians

Palestinian Christians are the Christian population living in Palestine, which includes the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The script emphasizes their plight, often overlooked in the narrative of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, by detailing instances of violence and restrictions they face, including attacks on churches and the impact of Israeli policies on their religious freedom.

๐Ÿ’กOccupied West Bank

The Occupied West Bank refers to the territory of the West Bank, which has been under Israeli occupation since the Six-Day War in 1967. The script discusses the challenges faced by Palestinian Christians living in this area, such as restrictions on movement and attacks on their religious sites.

๐Ÿ’กApartheid

Apartheid is a policy or system of segregation and discrimination based on race. In the script, it is used to describe the Israeli policies that the speaker believes are more severe than the racial segregation policies previously implemented in South Africa, affecting the lives of Palestinian Christians and other Palestinians.

๐Ÿ’กEvangelical

Evangelical refers to a diverse group of Christian denominations that emphasize personal faith in Jesus Christ, the authority of the Bible, and the importance of evangelism or spreading the Christian message. The script discusses the perceived lack of support from some evangelicals for Palestinian Christians and the influence of Christian Zionism on their views.

๐Ÿ’กChristian Zionism

Christian Zionism is a belief among some Christians that the return of the Jews to the Holy Land and the establishment of Israel in 1948 were in accordance with Bible prophecy. The script criticizes this belief for influencing the support of some evangelicals for Israel, despite the impact of Israeli policies on Palestinian Christians.

play00:26

Palestinians in the occupied West Bank

play00:27

in East Jerusalem are believed to be

play00:29

Christians pre- October the 7th at least

play00:31

a thousand Christians lived in Gaza one

play00:33

of the oldest Christian communities in

play00:35

the world dating back to the first

play00:37

century into Philip the Evangelist from

play00:39

the New Testament and yet just in the

play00:41

first month of Israel's brutal assault

play00:43

on Gaza the Israeli military bombed the

play00:46

compound of the strip's oldest church

play00:48

killing 16 Palestinian Christians

play00:50

Sheltering there the church more than

play00:52

800 years old suffered damage to its

play00:54

facade and an adjacent building

play00:56

collapsed as a result of the strike then

play00:58

in December in Israeli military sniper

play01:00

shot and killed two women inside the

play01:02

Holy Family Parish in Gaza an action

play01:05

described by the most senior Catholic

play01:07

cleric in England as a coldblooded

play01:09

killing just Days Later over in the

play01:11

occupied West Bank this past December

play01:13

holiday celebrations at the world's

play01:15

capital of Christmas Bethlehem were

play01:17

cancelled by Palestinian Christians in

play01:20

solidarity with their brothers and

play01:21

sisters in Gaza but look even before

play01:24

October the 7th Israeli government

play01:26

policy was restricting the rights of

play01:27

palestine's Christians and that's not

play01:29

mean saying that it's the US government

play01:31

yes the US Commission on International

play01:33

religious freedom wrote in a report on

play01:35

Israel's aparte war quote the separation

play01:38

barrier significantly impeded Bethlehem

play01:40

Area Christians including clergy from

play01:42

reaching the Church of the Holy Seiler

play01:44

in Jerusalem and made visits to

play01:46

Christian sites in Bethany and Bethlehem

play01:48

difficult for Palestinian Christians who

play01:50

live on the Jerusalem side of the

play01:52

barrier so where is the outrage from

play01:55

Christians here in America from

play01:57

evangelicals in the South for example

play01:59

who love to speak up in Outrage over the

play02:01

persecution of Christians in places like

play02:03

China or North Korea but not in

play02:06

Palestine why have palestine's

play02:08

Christians been abandoned and ignored in

play02:12

this way who better to ask the Reverend

play02:14

Dr Mona Isaac academic dean of the

play02:16

Bethlehem Bible College in Palestine

play02:18

director of Christ at the checkpoint

play02:20

conference he pastors at the Evangelical

play02:22

Lutheran Christmas church in Bethlehem

play02:24

and is here this week on a visit to

play02:26

Washington DC Pastor thanks so much for

play02:27

coming on the show thank you for having

play02:29

me for starters I know that members of

play02:32

your congregation in Bethlehem in the

play02:34

West Bank have family in Gaza how are

play02:36

they

play02:37

doing no one's doing well in Gaza uh

play02:41

everybody is impacted by this war

play02:42

everybody I mean we're they're

play02:44

fortunately few survive uh actually

play02:47

right now uh they thought they will be

play02:49

safe in the church they took refuge in

play02:51

the two churches the Orthodox and

play02:53

Catholics but uh tragically uh people

play02:56

were killed in both churches uh as a

play02:58

result of Israeli attacks uh and right

play03:00

now the biggest problem they're facing

play03:02

is the lack of uh medicine and food uh

play03:06

many from the Christian Community were

play03:07

killed because of uh there is no

play03:10

hospitals there's no medicine uh chances

play03:13

are right now if you get sick in Gaz uh

play03:15

that you won't survive uh it's been

play03:18

traumatizing for us to witness because

play03:22

uh they're very close by but we can do

play03:24

nothing uh and all we can do is if Lucky

play03:28

uh get hold of them on the phone to

play03:30

encourage uh and uh say anything you

play03:33

know just to comfort them uh on the

play03:35

other hand we're trying our best to

play03:36

mobilize church leaders around the world

play03:38

to speak out uh for the Christians in

play03:40

Gaza but also for all the everyone

play03:42

involved in Gaza it's it's a tragic

play03:44

humanitarian situation right now what is

play03:47

your understanding of the situation on

play03:48

the ground in Gaza specifically for

play03:50

Palestinian Christians who are trying to

play03:52

worship because in jabalia refugee camp

play03:55

we recently saw Friday prayers held for

play03:57

Muslims for the first time since the

play03:59

start of conflict do Christians in Gaza

play04:01

have any safe places Left To Worship

play04:04

in they're taking Refuge literally

play04:06

inside the two churches so they're

play04:08

praying almost every day uh this is the

play04:11

only thing they can do right now uh

play04:14

because as nowhere is safe and they

play04:16

think at least within the church

play04:18

compound uh it's safe uh but many of the

play04:22

uh regular players were impacted

play04:24

Christmas was not the same Easter was

play04:25

not the same uh one of the oldest

play04:28

traditions in Palestine is the Holy

play04:30

Saturday tradition in which the light

play04:32

comes out of the Church of the Holy

play04:34

slica and then literally goes all over

play04:35

the world and this was the first year

play04:38

that it not it did not get into uh into

play04:41

Gaza uh everybody's impacted right now

play04:43

by this war and as I said they're

play04:46

fortunate if they can only survive it's

play04:48

a war of a genocide that has literally

play04:50

left no one uh uh safe and nowhere is

play04:55

safe let's talk about the West Bank

play04:58

there has been while we've all been

play04:59

focused on Gaza the world there's been a

play05:01

an increase in violence in the West Bank

play05:04

a rampage by settlers against

play05:07

Palestinians has there been an increase

play05:09

in specifically anti-christian violence

play05:12

in the occupied West Bank since October

play05:13

the 7th in your view and do you believe

play05:16

Palestinian Christians are being

play05:17

targeted by the Israeli farri by

play05:20

Messianic Jewish satellites for example

play05:22

yeah this is not a matter of opinion M

play05:24

did statistics and uh reports about

play05:27

incitements and attacks against

play05:29

Christians testify to that and in fact

play05:31

even Israeli human rights organizations

play05:33

are raising concern about the fact that

play05:36

these incitements against that that are

play05:38

targeting Christians specifically in E

play05:41

Jerusalem uh but within also the West

play05:43

Bank are uh on the rise and it did not

play05:47

start on October 7th it actually the it

play05:49

has been going for a while but since

play05:52

this current Israeli government took

play05:54

over we've seen a big rise in these

play05:56

incidents of uh spitting at clergy

play05:59

attacking uh cemeteries uh attacking

play06:02

churches arson at churches

play06:05

um and uh many times when I hear about

play06:09

how these reports these uh incidents are

play06:12

reported the focus is on Fringe

play06:15

Messianic Jewish groups the problem is

play06:17

not only that the problem is the

play06:19

structure that protects them because

play06:21

right now they feel they have immunity

play06:24

uh right now they feel they are

play06:25

protected and certainly after October

play06:27

7th with all the focus rightly so on

play06:30

Gaza uh they have been Unleashed uh

play06:34

attacking everybody including Christians

play06:36

and in the West Bank uh you know while

play06:38

the world is watching Gaza and and the

play06:41

focus there settler activities is on the

play06:43

r settler violence and land confiscation

play06:45

and building of settlements uh on land

play06:48

confiscated from Palestinian including

play06:50

Palestinian Christians is also uh on the

play06:52

rise you've mentioned in the past that

play06:54

one of the biggest problems you're

play06:55

facing in the West Bank as a Christian

play06:56

Community uh is The Exodus of young

play06:59

Christian Palestinians due to life under

play07:01

occupation the Israelis and their

play07:03

supporters in the west often blame Hamas

play07:06

and the rise of Islamic extremism for

play07:08

The Exodus of Palestinian Christians

play07:10

from both Gaza and the West Bank what is

play07:11

your response to that line of

play07:13

argument my response has come and talk

play07:15

to these people who are leaving and ask

play07:17

them why are they leaving uh we're tired

play07:19

as Palestinian Christians from people

play07:21

speaking about us and framing the

play07:23

narrative in a way that fits their own

play07:25

political agenda rather than listening

play07:27

to our concerns it's it's impossible to

play07:30

flourish as any Community right now in

play07:32

the West Bank uh it takes us sometimes

play07:34

two to three hours to get from Bethlehem

play07:36

to ramala because we can't get access of

play07:38

course to Jerusalem and the checkpoints

play07:40

are becoming more and more difficult uh

play07:43

life under an Israeli occupation system

play07:46

that's so brutal that controls every

play07:48

element of Our Lives is so difficult uh

play07:51

but we must ask the question why is it

play07:53

being phrased this way why is it always

play07:56

as if uh you know Muslims are to blame

play07:59

for the Exodus of Christians uh again

play08:01

because it fits a certain narrative uh

play08:03

it serves a certain agenda and um people

play08:07

in the west would go crazy if a church

play08:10

is attacked by uh Muslims in the West

play08:13

Bank yes but we've seen all these

play08:15

incidents and it's not just the

play08:16

incidents it's the limitation of our

play08:18

freedom it's probably the biggest the

play08:21

two biggest problems we're facing right

play08:23

now as a Christian Community in the West

play08:25

Bank one is the confiscation of our land

play08:27

we cannot expand we cannot live

play08:30

and when I say our land I'm not making a

play08:32

political statement that this is

play08:34

Palestinian land I'm talking about land

play08:36

we've farmed and inherited for

play08:38

Generations this is this is the

play08:39

difference when we when we say This Is

play08:41

Our Land so we're not able to flourish

play08:44

as a community in the Bethlehem Area in

play08:45

particular because Israel confiscated

play08:48

most of the land that was supposed to be

play08:50

part of the three municipalities in the

play08:52

Bethlehem area where most Christians

play08:54

live the second is the family

play08:56

registration system the majority of

play08:58

Palestinian Christians live outside and

play09:00

are denied to come back to their

play09:02

Homeland in some instances uh

play09:04

Palestinian Christians like all

play09:06

Palestinians are forced to leave

play09:08

Palestine because they can't um be with

play09:11

their spouses so if I as a Palestinian

play09:13

marry a foreign spouse yes uh Israel

play09:15

would not grant that spouse a visa to

play09:18

come and live in Palestine so what do

play09:19

you do you just end up leaving if a

play09:22

Palestinian from the West Bank Mar as a

play09:23

Palestinian from East Jerusalem it's

play09:25

also complicated all of these policies

play09:28

uh that have been rightly described as

play09:30

as apartheid are causing Palestinians to

play09:33

live including Palestinian uh Christians

play09:36

as well you're here in the US you're in

play09:38

Washington DC right now on a visit have

play09:40

you spoken to Christian evangelicals

play09:43

here in the US and asked them why they

play09:46

so strongly some would say so blindly

play09:48

support Israel over their own Christian

play09:51

Brethren like yourself living under

play09:53

military occupation do you feel betrayed

play09:56

by them we certainly feel uh betrayed uh

play09:59

the reason is this theology called

play10:01

Christian Zionism uh which is so

play10:04

prevalent in among Evangelical circles

play10:07

uh and it's deeper than simply how we

play10:10

read the Bible um to them they have

play10:14

created the world VI in which support to

play10:17

Israel is integral to this American

play10:21

identity American exceptionalism

play10:23

American National Christian identity

play10:25

part of it is you know support uh to

play10:29

Israel is and they read the Bible and

play10:31

they only think that the right way to

play10:33

read it is to support uh Israel and when

play10:36

you couple that with a really very

play10:39

limited awareness of what's happening on

play10:41

the ground I mean ignorance to be honest

play10:44

uh because I meet with these pastors all

play10:46

the time uh and the thing that usually

play10:51

changes them is when they come to

play10:52

Bethlehem they're shocked and they

play10:54

always say we didn't know we wish we

play10:55

knew so it's ignorance on their it's

play10:57

ignorance and then that

play10:59

the the mere fact that Palestinian

play11:01

Christians exist and then they come and

play11:03

see the wall they see how we live in

play11:05

within basically concentrate you know

play11:08

very uh uh compacted areas whereas the

play11:12

settlements are flourishing around us

play11:14

makes them you know ask questions and

play11:15

that allows us to open the Bible and say

play11:18

do you really support the concept of a

play11:20

tribal God of a racist God uh so we're

play11:22

trying to have these conversations um by

play11:25

and large we have a problem uh but for

play11:28

the first time we feel some are

play11:29

beginning to listen uh for the first

play11:31

time we we feel maybe we have an

play11:34

opportunity uh to engage uh and I think

play11:37

Gaza has uh made many question uh their

play11:42

assumptions and of course we should

play11:44

point out black and Latino evangelicals

play11:46

do not take the same position as their

play11:48

white Evangelical brethren we talk about

play11:50

evangelicals we're talking very much

play11:51

about white Christian evangelicals black

play11:53

pastors have come out very strongly in

play11:55

support of Gaza but what's interesting

play11:56

is you're saying you're seeing some

play11:57

change because of Gaza from where I'm

play11:59

seeing I'm seeing a lot more religious

play12:01

crazies uh coming out of the woodwork

play12:03

because of Gaza we've seen several uh

play12:05

Israeli officials top us Christian

play12:07

evangelicals and Messianic Jewish rabbis

play12:10

try to spin this war into a religious

play12:13

one uh with some hoping that it marks

play12:15

the return of the Messiah others

play12:17

predicting the end of times Armageddon

play12:20

uh there's talk of some settlers wanting

play12:21

to uh uh sacrifice a red heer to bring

play12:25

about the Third Temple and the end of

play12:27

the world how do you react to those both

play12:30

in the holy land and here in the US who

play12:32

are trying to turn the genocide in Gaza

play12:34

the violence in Gaza the fighting into a

play12:37

religious conflict into a holy war yes

play12:40

uh I'm sad I'm troubled traumatized

play12:43

because you know for us we're talking

play12:44

about real people friends relatives who

play12:47

could be killed every day this war goes

play12:50

on uh yet we have pastors here who are

play12:53

excited about the end times and uh even

play12:55

you know calling for more War uh it's

play12:58

hard for for us to understand this

play13:00

obsession with war and violence among

play13:02

many Christians uh in this country uh

play13:05

and honestly anybody who understands

play13:07

what some of these fundamentalist groups

play13:10

Christian Zionist are saying uh should

play13:12

be shocked that you know they are

play13:14

friends with Israel to begin with orbits

play13:16

Israeli Jews you talk about the end

play13:18

times because in many of these scenarios

play13:21

that they hold uh Jews will come to

play13:23

Palestine only for two3 of them to be

play13:25

massacred and the other third then will

play13:28

be rescued by Jesus when he returns and

play13:30

they will believe in Jesus you know

play13:32

convert to Christianity and somehow

play13:34

that's a Israel friendly theology it's

play13:37

hard for me to understand uh how you

play13:41

know those are considered friends of

play13:43

Israel but when we speak against

play13:45

occupation we are called uh all sorts of

play13:47

things including anti-semites

play13:50

um very it's it's very sad

play13:53

because the conversation should shift

play13:55

should focus on the sanctity of human

play13:58

lives yes this is what people of Faith

play14:01

should focus on human life should be

play14:03

above every every consideration yet

play14:05

rather than caring how do we stop this

play14:07

war they justify it and they connect it

play14:10

to end time scenarios they get excited

play14:13

uh whereas to us it's about real life

play14:16

issues it's about our existence as as

play14:18

Palestinians and certainly as as

play14:21

Palestinian Christians so these are some

play14:22

of the conversation we're trying to have

play14:24

and as I said some are beginning to

play14:26

listen and we're asking them for help

play14:28

please help us reach out to those I I

play14:31

wish they understand the consequences of

play14:34

what they're saying and doing because

play14:35

they give money to Israel many of these

play14:38

Evangelical churches give millions of

play14:40

dollars to Israel I wish they understand

play14:42

the impact uh on our daily lives you

play14:45

mentioned aparte earlier the a word that

play14:47

gets a lot of people very upset here in

play14:49

the US there's also the GW genocide what

play14:52

would you say to someone who says I

play14:54

don't think it's aparte I don't think

play14:55

it's

play14:56

genocide When someone tells me you know

play14:59

do you think it's aparte I saw it's it's

play15:01

not a matter of opinion it's not what I

play15:03

think apartheid has a definition does it

play15:07

fit is do Israeli policies fit and then

play15:10

the second thing I ask I mean do we

play15:12

really care about the international law

play15:14

or not because if we truly care then

play15:17

what do we do about the reports from

play15:19

Amnesty International to Human Rights

play15:21

Watch to Israel's own Bim I mean

play15:24

Palestinian lawyers have demonstrated

play15:25

that it is a parti long before alhak and

play15:29

others

play15:30

um I have many South African friends uh

play15:33

even Evangelical South Africans who come

play15:36

to to Palestine and all of them tell us

play15:38

the same thing what you have is worse

play15:40

than aparte they say we can smell aparte

play15:43

for distance what you have is much worse

play15:45

than aparte and ironically it's the same

play15:48

people who supported aparte are now the

play15:51

ones who support Israeli policies and so

play15:55

you ask yourself did we really learn

play15:57

from history and the fact that the icj

play16:00

case was so quickly dismissed by church

play16:03

leaders and by American government shows

play16:06

you that actually these attitudes of you

play16:10

know Supremacy actually didn't go away

play16:13

uh I would you know you would assume

play16:16

that people would respect what South

play16:18

African theologians church leaders are

play16:20

saying at least you know people in the

play16:21

church but they continue to dismiss you

play16:24

know they celebrate someone like Desmond

play16:26

Tutu the late uh Archbishop except when

play16:29

he speaks about Palestine the same way

play16:31

they celebrated Nelson Mandela with the

play16:33

exception of when he spoke about

play16:34

Palestine there's always a Palestine

play16:36

exception um last question you have

play16:38

accused Joe Biden of complicity in

play16:40

genocide you've called out the American

play16:42

president saying he's worse he's a worst

play16:44

Christian Zionist and even American

play16:45

televangelist John haggy uh whose

play16:48

extremist and racist rhetoric we've

play16:50

discussed on Zeto in the past you're

play16:52

here in Washington DC right now we're

play16:54

around the corner from the White House

play16:55

what is the message that you are trying

play16:57

to get across to the president of the

play16:59

United

play17:00

States um that um you know that his

play17:05

policies have directly contributed to a

play17:07

genocide the fact that he says one thing

play17:10

yet continues to provide Israel with the

play17:12

weapons needed to uh conduct this

play17:15

genocide make him directly uh complicit

play17:19

and I think my message is also to many

play17:21

uh church leaders who continue to focus

play17:23

on the Evangelical right while ignoring

play17:27

that we also have a problem in in of the

play17:29

progressive liberal uh churches because

play17:31

as I said uh Joe Biden is a

play17:33

self-confessed

play17:35

Zionist uh self-confessed catholic

play17:38

christian yet he supported and he

play17:40

continues to defend uh this genocide now

play17:44

sadly it's too late to reverse the

play17:45

action uh what has been done has been

play17:47

done in Gaza uh thousands have been

play17:49

killed but at least we can stop it from

play17:52

going to the West Bank and at least we

play17:54

make sure those lives were not killed

play17:56

for nothing that something good I I hope

play17:59

you know for the for Palestinians for

play18:01

the whole region comes out of this uh so

play18:04

I think as Faith leaders we need to hold

play18:07

politicians accountable and uh I I I

play18:09

think it's imperative that we speak with

play18:12

uh our convictions our conscience and

play18:14

speak truth to power and uh he must hear

play18:17

it from us that we think uh he has been

play18:20

his policies this administration's

play18:22

policy has directly contributed to the

play18:24

killing of thousands of Palestinians

play18:26

including 15,000 children

play18:29

sadly it has Reverend M ISAC thank you

play18:32

so much for your time I appreciate you

play18:34

coming in thank you for having me thank

play18:36

you that's our show May the unfiltered

play18:38

will be back next week in the meantime

play18:41

play18:44
