hi everyone my name is Ben and today I

have something special for y'all I put

my SIM card in the iPhone 5s and I want

to let you know how it is to use in

2023. let's get right into it

no my favorite part about the phone has

been just the feel of it in the hand it

fits perfectly in the hand and you can

reach the corners of the screen so

nicely I think there's really nothing

else that's quite like this in 2023

maybe outside of the iPhone 13 mini but

just the way that it looks and feels is

really

one of the coolest Parts about this

phone is just how easily it just flips

right into your pocket you almost forget

that it's even there in your pocket just

because it's so small and so light

now let's get into the most interesting

part about this phone and that is what

is it like to actually use this phone

now in 2023 and it's interesting overall

the performance on this phone is really

not bad at all if we stick to the stock

applications on here calendar opens

quickly photos opens quickly the clock

opens quickly enough and considering

this phone is a decade old it's pretty

amazing that it can do those functions

smoothly and without much lag at all

honestly it's aged beautifully for how

old it is and I think a lot of that has

to be attributed to the Apple A7 chip

that's in this thing it still has

pretty solid performance that probably

isn't too far off the lowest and Android

phones that are still sold new today in

2023 now there is a problem though and

that comes in app support since this is

running iOS 12 you're going to see

messages like this oftentimes when you

open an app

um update required these versions of iOS

are no longer supported now a lot of the

apps that I have on here gave me that

same message when I was downloading them

in the App Store you'll see a message

that says oh you're gonna have to

download an older version of this app

because you need at least iOS 15 or 14

to be able to run them and you're going

to get that a lot on the iPhone 5S

but overall it's it's pretty amazing

just how quick it is if you're doing

basic tasks but can't do too much else

more than that another thing about this

phone is of course the battery life

sucks let's go to my battery stats for

today uh not privacy let's go to the

battery and then we can see here I had

to charge it part way through the day it

just crashed at about 10 15 today all

the way down to zero and it was kind of

it was kind of a mess to try to use it

actually as a phone in 2023.

um however something that surprised me

with its quality was the camera now you

can see this shot here it's going to be

hard to tell on the camera but uh it's a

nice clear shot that I got outside now

if you zoom in there's hardly any detail

to the shot but the cameras in the

overall color reproduction here are

really solid likewise with this selfie

you can see my hair there's a lot of

detail in the hair and there's good

colors and good contrast to the photos

that come out of it so I think it's

really pretty impressive the photos that

that you're able to take with this phone

in spite of its age another thing that's

surprisingly aged well with the phone is

Touch ID it's amazing how quick it is

this is the very first iteration of

touch ID that came in the iPhone here

with the 5S and it does the job it does

it super well I would say it probably

takes a little bit longer to set up uh

than than more modern iPhones but when

you're actually just using it it works

and it works quickly and what's most

surprising of all about the modernity of

this phone is yesterday when I unpacked

the phone I got an update for it to iOS

12.5.7 so it's still getting updates

which is pretty insane for for the age

of this phone

uh and those are just going to be

security updates for the most part of

course this isn't on the most modern

version of iOS but you're getting that

Continued Care and support from Apple so

overall this is a stunning phone and

it's aged surprisingly well for what it

is I would say this is probably the

phone that's aged the best out of any of

the older iPhones that I know the only

thing that I think could potentially

give it a run for its money is the

iPhone 6s which came out just two years

later and gave you a huge jump up in

haptic feedback in performance and in

just how modern it feels since it runs

iOS 15 now instead of iOS 12 like this

phone and that brings me to mind

something that I did notice today is the

haptic feedback on this phone is

horrendous I had it sitting on the table

in class and I heard the vibration motor

go off when my dad tried to call me

and it was terrible it just was rattly

and it was banging the entire table and

the entire class looked at me so that is

one of the things that has not aged well

about this phone is those haptics and

you're going to get a huge Improvement

on that if you go to a more modern

iPhone like the 6s or seven or eight so

this is a fun little device to use in

2023

um but I don't I definitely don't think

you should do anything else more than

just play with it in 2023 and if you

still happen to have one

um Bravo to you but I think you can get

a much nicer phone for not much more

money now on eBay
