hello everybody in today's video i'm
going to show you how to glue the
leather covering back on a camera once
the leather covering has started to peel
off for this we're going to need some
rubbing alcohol which i have in this
little film canister
and we're going to need cotton swabs
probably a few more than i have actually
grabbed here first thing we're going to
do is we're going to peel back the
offending piece of covering
oh it does not want to come off of there
does it
see
there we go opening the camera back
fixed that little problem
we're going to grab
the piece of covering and we're going to
clean it now it is a good idea to clean
this in its entirety but also can be a
little bit challenging to do
so
just clean this the best that you can
with the way that we're going to be
repairing this which is with some plyo
bond 25
this does not have to be perfectly clean
in order for the glue to work plyo bond
25 is the ideal glue for this repair
because
it is dissolvable with rubbing alcohol
so if you need for some reason to take
the leather off or send the camera in to
be repaired it can the leather covering
which has to be removed for the repair
in most cases can be done so with some
rubbing alcohol
and your repair person will know that
do not use epoxy crazy glue or gorilla
glue to put these back on or anything
like that which is not removable as that
will cause the leather covering to be
removed permanently with a grinder or
scraper or something like that by your
repair person if they need to take it
off in the course of a repair now might
be a little bit hard to see but
i hope you can tell that the
backing on this piece of leather
covering is significantly cleaner and
more glue residue free than it was when
we took it off
now we're gonna have to do the same with
the metal and because
that door overlapped the metal we're
just gonna get it out of the way for
right now you might be able to see how
dirty these cotton swabs are getting as
i use them and that should give you an
indication of the kind of grime that's
being taken off as i clean this
i didn't get it all all off entirely
again as you can see there is a little
bit of residue it does have a slightly
tacky feel to it
but that's okay we're going to hold on
to this last cotton swab because if i
get
the plyo bond outside of the boundaries
of where i want it
then i want to be able to clean it up
and i might actually do that on purpose
to show you how that works here's our
plyo bond 25
or as i call it the forbidden and stinky
caramel
this is an older jar it has gotten a
little bit gummy it's
new plyo bond does not look like this by
the way this plyo bond is a a very high
voc a very low voc
glue
and
so it gets thick as you use it
you can see it's very caramel like i'm
going to put some plyo bond on here and
oh oopsie oopsie got it outside the
boundaries oh i can't believe i did that
terrible
terrible
all right so we've got some plyo bond
there we're also going to put it on the
actual leather
if you get plyo if you want to wear
rubber gloves to protect your fingers
you can if you get plyo bond on your
fingers as i just did oh goodness oh i'm
going to die of toxic plyobon shock
what you can do
is simply
clean it off with
rubbing alcohol or soap and water
the stuff's not particularly toxic now
we've got the old leather placed on
there fairly well i'm comfortable with
that gonna get some rubbing alcohol on
our cotton swab we're just going to go
around the edges here where i
accidentally got a little bit of plyo
bond outside
of the leather
we're just going to clean that up as you
can see when the rubbing alcohol touches
the plyo bond it makes it really gummy
and the only
and it makes it kind of bind up on
itself and not really sticky anymore
so you want to make sure of course when
you do this that the rubbing alcohol
underneath the leather on the surface
it's going to be glued is completely dry
which takes a few seconds before you
apply the glue otherwise any glue you
apply to it is going to be ruined and
you'll have to start over
i'm just going to get that last little
glue booger
and
that leather is going to stay in place
now one other thing i want to show you
is how good of a repair is this you can
see here this this
side was plyo bonded
honestly probably by me
some years ago and it's holding in place
really well the leather has shrunk a
little bit or had shrunk before that
probably before that but the plyo bond
is holding in place with this leather
repair and has been for some time
now if your leather covering is not
holding down as well as this one is
holding in place very well because the
leather is very well formed from having
stayed on this camera for years if it's
not holding in place very well what you
want to do is grab a handful of cotton
swabs and place them like this or some
some sort of pattern
like that
and then a rubber band
over
these cotton swabs so that you can hold
the
leather in place you use cotton swabs
here because the rubber band will press
the cotton swabs into the leather
evenly distributing the force you can
use multiple rubber bands of course and
if you evenly distribute the force it
does a better job of causing the glue to
adhere evenly
and stay in place for the long run but
as you can see with this camera i don't
need to do that so this beautiful
never used mint condition other than
that one little piece of leather camera
is uh ready to go and and take what i'm
sure will be the first photos
that it has ever taken
i actually cannot wait to use this
camera
all right have a good day everybody and
i will see you in the next video thank
you for watching this video please give
me a thumbs up that lets me know that
i'm on the right track producing content
which is useful and helpful to you if
you have any questions or comments
please leave those in the comments
section below i'm pretty good about
checking these every couple of days and
answering questions
if you have any suggestions or ideas for
future videos and if i have the
technical know-how and equipment i'm
more than happy to make those one last
thing
thank you everyone for watching and i'll
see you in the next video
gotta get up steinbeck i have to turn
off the camera
