Should I try changing my hairstyle a bit?
SEOULIAN
Hello, this is Seoulian.
I attended the Galaxy S24 event,
and was all set to upload a video perfectly synchronized with the embargo.
But suddenly, I've lost my voice due to laryngitis.
Now, my voice is gradually returning,
so a bit late, but I've organized my thoughts on the Galaxy S24.
Rather than introducing specs or demonstrating detailed features,
I'll focus on evaluating the AI features and concept of the Galaxy S24 this time.
I'll keep it brief and share my thoughts.
[Two questions I want to throw at the Galaxy S24]
Today, I want to find answers for myself
and share thoughts with all of you.
I have two questions.
The first one is;
Are the AI features innovative and fascinating enough?
Galaxy highlights
the AI concept even more than the specs,
we need to evaluate whether the features constituting
that concept are convincing.
The second question is;
Does the AI functionality make the Galaxy S24 attractive?
As consumers, the most crucial aspect for us is this AI concept
is appealing enough to open our wallets,
whether it becomes a significant purchasing factor.
We will finally assess
whether it is worth replacing a smartphone
that hasn't broken, takes good photos
and functions well in calls, by paying an additional cost.
[Is the Galaxy S24's AI feature sufficiently new and impressive?]
First, my answer to the first question
is straightforward and without any need for elaboration;
No.
Real-time translation features.
I'm in front of the hotel concierge;
can you speak in English for me?
Of course.
What can I help you with?
'Hello, I'm a quest staying in room 2715.'
'Could you please bring me two shower towels, one toothpaste, and one toothbrush?'
As for the Note Assist solution,
there are many options, but among the ones I've recently tried,
using A-Dot allows for both making phone calls and automatically transcribing voice-recorded files.
It even summarizes the content.
Additionally, with generative photos,
it not only creates non-existent pictures
but also synthesize my face into them.
Video slow-motion transition.
Oh, this is really impressive.
However, the core of this technology is frame interpolation,
which is already a well-established and long-implemented technique.
It involves generating intermediate frames between existing frames.
Gamers might have heard of this through the NVIDIA DLSS option,
and video editors are likely already using it in software like Final Cut Pro with Optical Flow
like Final Cut Pro with Optical Flow
or DaVinci Resolve's retime feature.
When it comes to the freshness, novelty,
and ingenuity of the AI features in the Galaxy S24, it's challenging to give high scores.
As I've shown briefly,
there are solutions available that anyone can use if they wish to employ these features.
[Does the AI feature make the Galaxy S24 appealing?]
Now, let's evaluate whether these features are meaningful from a consumer perspective.
Since we're not AI developers,
what matters is whether we think the Galaxy S24 is worthwhile because of these features.
Despite being a function that,
as seen earlier, doesn't offer anything particularly groundbreaking,
the answer to this question is a resounding YES.
In terms of functionality,
there isn't an added uniqueness or creative element
derived from Galaxy's overwhelming technical prowess in AI.
However,
there's a contribution from Galaxy that should not be overlooked here.
Firstly, the decision to integrate AI into smartphones
might not have been an easy internal decision to make.
I believe the ripple effects of this decision on consumers
will continue to grow.
Even if we, as viewers, haven't directly experienced it through the media,
we're aware of the most noteworthy AI features currently
gaining attention.
When I say 'we' in this context,
I mean myself, the subscribers watching this video, early adopters,
and individuals highly engaged with technology
essentially, those actively involved in
at least interested in this field.
And among us,
some may have joined and tried using ChatGPT.
It could be out of curiosity
or because they found practical scenarios where it is genuinely useful.
You might be using it
through the web or mobile apps.
Furthermore, among us, a very small fraction
is likely utilizing AI for content creation.
How many have actually used generative AI in Photoshop
to flip vertical photos horizontally
or vice versa?
By using Stable Diffusion
and compositing their faces onto generated images,
experimenting with different models and scenarios,
how many have created images?
As much as the AI is still a distant technology for us,
it's not because we don't need it,
but rather because we don't know how it can contribute
so haven't felt the necessity to use it.
Consequently, we naturally don't invest time in learning and preparing for its use.
Moreover, if this applies not to us,
but to those who have no interest in tech at all,
the percentage of people who have tried using it would decrease even more.
However, the AI features included in the Galaxy S24
have a very low learning curve.
Honestly, I think the concept of a learning curve
is unnecessary
because it seems like something anyone can use.
Now, when our parents travel abroad
and need something in the hotel, whether there's internet or not,
they can just press a button and speak.
If the person who was supposed to pick them up at the airport doesn't show up,
there's no need to be afraid of making a call.
With real-time translation now available with just a call,
they can simply press a button and make it happen.
These days, even our parents
to see specific details more closely,
have naturally adopted the habit
of zooming in on photos.
Similarly, as a common and expected user experience,
it will become natural to long-press on a video to view it slowly.
While the media is buzzing with rumors about AI doing such things,
most of us don't use these seemingly irrelevant features.
Instead, what Galaxy has done,
simply opening the box, putting in the power, and making it instantly usable for everyone
worthy of recognition.
There's one more thing I want to talk about,
a commendable aspect that I'd like to highlight.
It's the fact that Galaxy
approached the UX and UI design for the AI features in a nonchalant manner,
making it easily accessible for actual users.
They didn't try to overly hype the inclusion of AI features
or create a special process to use all the functions.
Instead, they seamlessly integrated everything within the familiar apps users were already using.
Honestly, they could have made
a grand presentation, attempting to showcase
the immense artificial intelligence within,
creating an elaborate UI.
However,
apart from highlighting the new AI features with a single icon,
for tasks like generative image editing, you can do it in the gallery you were already using,
and for video slow-motion, you can continue using it as you did before.
Real-time translation is seamlessly integrated into the calling UI,
and chat-based translation can be done using the standard keyboard,
making it effortlessly natural to use.
This decision completely eliminates any awkwardness associated with using unfamiliar features,
making it easy for more people to give it a try.
Also, as a result of this,
the majority of people will be encountering these AI features for the first time,
and their initial exposure to AI features will be through Galaxy.
This will soon have an imprinting effect associated with Galaxy's technological prowess.
From a strategic standpoint, I consider it a brilliant decision.
[Galaxy S24 rental service at the airport?]
Now, if anyone is working at Samsung Electronics,
please share this on the company's internal board.
For Galaxy S24.
Target individuals traveling to countries where on-device interpretation is supported,
offer them the opportunity to rent the Galaxy S24.
Then, request them
to use real-time interpretation using the Galaxy S24,
at local hotels or restaurants and send short videos, capturing the experience.
Collect these videos to create online advertising materials.
And deliver an actual Galaxy S24
to the protagonists featured in these videos,
including children, mothers, fathers, grandparents,
ensuring a diverse representation of different generations in the stories.
And there's one more crucial point.
We need to produce promotional videos for this marketing campaign.
That involves sending Seoulian to Europe,
where they can travel between Italy and Spain, order from delightful local restaurants,
engage in conversations with locals,
take photos together, and capture moments of enjoyment.
Now it's your turn.
Wrapping up the video in this manner
is the most important
so make sure to post this on the company's internal board.
Please see you again in the next video.
Bye.
The end.
Take care of yourselves, whether it's a cold or anything else.
My voice still hasn't fully recovered.
If you have any questions
about the Galaxy S24 series, please leave them in the comments.
I'll use them as reference for planning the next video.
