Hi, welcome to Fantastic Workspace. Bow with my hands.
This time, I'm going to talk about the minimized set up of the iPad mini and its ultimate utilization". I'm going to talk about the theme of "How to use iPad mini in a very small setup & ultimate utilization",
I've been researching "how to make things easier with tools" for almost 20 years, I think this video is the most useful one ever !
I must confess that I've reached the method to dramatically utilize the iPad mini.
I may have completed the minimized portabe desk environment in the world.
I'm going to reveal the secret technique to incredibly increase the iPad mini productivity.
I am sponsored by Lofree this time. Thank you very much.
Lofree's keyboard is amazing. I'll introduce it to you later in detail.
First, warming up. About the revolution of mega-combination of the 2024 version iPad mini Z.
Its expandabilty is unlimited with MagSafe. All metal rings for MagSafe are much the same, so I've been using ESR's.
Its thin, fine, notched and silver appearance is the key.
Then, the pen holder. It is the birth of a trillion times cleaner solution.
The world's smallest sticking area, maybe.
Chargeable.
Holding power is sufficient enough.
Very easy to put on and take off.
On a desk you can keep it by flipping it 180°.
And it's made of titanium, our soul material. It takes only 3 steps.
step 0: We call upon Sergeant Strapper, the legend of the strap holder world. We call upon Sergeant Strapper, the legend of the strap holder world.
Geeks who like to keep a low profile can rub the logo and delete it. I rough it up with #600, and then finish it with #2000.
D-ring can be easily removed with two very small flat-blade screwdrivers.
Step 1: Attach it with double-sided tape. Strong, peelable double-sided tape from 3M is recommended.
Regarding the mounting position. It doesn't interfere with charging and does not rattle when placed flat,
and it can be nullified by reversing. So, It is good to put it either up or down.
Step 2: Attach the pen hook by twisting it 90 degrees from the normal position.
My recommendation is TOHKIN. The tip bounces up then, the hooking is the smoothest and it feels smooth to the touch too.
Step 3:Enjoy the smooth detachability and the good suppleness of the metal. which is strong enough not to come off.
By the way, when you peel off the Sergeant strapper, dab some anhydrous ethanol in the gap. and wait a little, then it will peel off incredibly easily.
Please don't force it to come off because the plate tends to bend crookedly and you can't fix it.
About the important holding power, Suppose no holder is 0,
and the standard hole type is 100,
This pen hook type is like 70. It is the best if you are okay that it doesn't come off in your room or in your bag.
The following is a list of carefully selected upgrade parts that boost the usability of each formation.
I highly recommend the iRing Mag for handhelds. You feel 100% more comfortable when you read books for a long time.
I think the key point in choosing a ring for iPad is whether I hold it with only one finger or not.
If the ring is too squishy or too big, I can't hold it with one finger.
In that case, reading books can't be comfortable for me.
The iRing Mag, on the other hand, is about 2 cm in diameter and has a smooth edge, It feels really good.
In addition, it is definitely different from most of the products. It has one more axis of rotation.
If the ring itself can be rotated, position adjustment becomes a billion times easier.
The magnet adsorption is strong and secure.
However, it is originally designed for smart phones, so if your hand is small, you may feel the ring is too far.
In addition, if you hold the phone horizontally, the ring seems to be far away.
Next, about handwriting. If you take everything away, you can make it completely flat.
It's good for concentrating on writing something.
You don't have to worry that your bare camera may hit your desk.
I've been using it without any cover very hard for 2 and a half years, the lens is not scratched at all, and the iPad's camera was almost never used in the first place.
One thing you need to know is that in the flat position, the Starbucks' stylish lighting is 100% in the way.
Therefore, with the MOFT's Snap ON,
be ready for creating a shallow angle, then you will be okay.
Snap On can hold your driver's license, credit cards, etc. and can also be used as a stand, It is an excellent item.
The iRing Mag can also create shallow angles. It's good when porting from Snap On is a little nuisant, or when you don't want to put your iPad on a dirty floor during DIY work.
The only weak point is that it tends to slide around a bit, If you are concerned about it, you can use rubber feet or non-slip stickers.
By the way, the must-have item for desk work is a keyboard, right?
Actually, the keyboard itself is the item that decides our Quality of Labor, it's true.
So, let me introduce an excellent keyboard, which I can confidently recommend to my comrades who are not swamp dwellers and have a decent social life.
It's the LOFREE FLOW.
Let me focus on the special aspect from the point of Fantastic Workspace.
First of all, the appearance. The sense of luxury is at the highest level, and the design is superbly stylish.
The aluminum body is cool, and the body color is slightly different between white and gray. I love this subtle difference.
The keycaps are also wonderful. Needless to say, the precision of molding and the feel of the keycaps are also excellent,
The printing right in the center and the orange accents are very modern and tasteful.
The material is of course PBT. I myself like its soft texture and durability so much that I use PBT caps for all my other Keyboard Brothers.
Then, the keystroke impression. This is definitely one of the best, smooth and super comfortable.
There is no shaky feeling or cheap clackety-clack feeling.
The custom-made Kalilh's POM switch, the super shock-absorbing and gasket-mounted structure that even Airmax can't have are great. Their passionate pursuit of keystrokes is amazing.
HHKB Professional HYBRID Type-S, the king of the keyboard world, is like this.
How about LOFREE FLOW then?
And this amazing quality concentrated on a thin body = Low profile is absolutely unique and fantastic.
Low-profile generally has advantages such as stylish appearance, no need for a wrist rest, easy to carry, and so on,
On the other hand, it inevitably has a cheap crackey-clack feel due to its thinness.
LOFREE FLOW breaks through this weakness.
The weight is almost the same as a compact HHKB at 600g.
Bluetooth can be switched between 3 devices.
The battery saving system is also excellent, with a saving mode that turns off the LED after 1 minute of standby, and turn into a deep sleep mode that Bluetooth turns off after 10 minutes.
I only tap a key to recover from sleep mode. It's ideal.
Do I have any concerns about it? I haven't found any particular weak points,
after fully using it at my main desk for the past 2 months.
So, I'll try to find out any weak points any way.
I am a little concerned that the keycaps are mixed up between Mac and Windows. I expect in the future they will be sold separately.
I don't mind it at all, but some of you may not be satisfied with the lack of Japanese alignment and the lack of an angled foot
Last, let me tell you one more. The standard key switches are different between Silver White and Space Gray.
The quiet type of white is like this,
A little clicky gray called "Tactile" is like this.
I'm going to say it at the risk of being scolded by the senior mounting gorilla at the Keyboard Zoo,
Actually there isn't a big difference between the two, I think. What do you think?
Therefore, for those who are not swamp dwellers, it's perfectly OK to choose your favorite "color".
The paperwork is something to be processed, people are something to lead, and keyboards are something to increase, Please check out LOFREE FLOW from the overview section.
Sorry for waiting. I'm ready. Now, let's get into the heart of this video, the iPad minimum desk & the most important technique.
Let me call the actual potable environment that I carry every day as EDC desk.
EDC stands for EveryDay Carry items in my bag.
It is not Estimated Conception (date of fertilization).
I'm going to seek for the ultimate lightness, smallness and empty-handedness.
My bag is Bellroy Lite Sling and the total weight including all items is 1.4kg.
The iPad mini and the size of the bag are perfect for each other.
I hook it up with a clipper anytime and anywhere.
Speaking of clippers...
It's been more than 10 years ago and it makes me angry to remember it still now, I was in Starbucks, taking a break after returning from a solo trip to India, I was in a Starbucks and was taking a breather. 00:08:21,417 --> 00:08:29,008 All of a sudden, I had an uncontrollable dripping of juice from my buttocks. After that, I became afraid to put my personal belongings on a public chair.
So clippers are really an indispensable to me.
I keep my keys in a carabiner made in Japan by Adachi Tool Store. I love the easy-to-hold form of the carabiner.
Now let's see what's in my bag,
00:08:41,312 --> 00:08:44,982 The world's most brilliant MagSafe stand has been completed at this point.
The MagSafe stand is so small and lightweight, yet it can be tall enough to hold it up.
I have a high seat height. For me the height directly affects the comfort of my neck.
I connect a great Leofoto's phone stand with MagSafe mount of NEEWER .
Remove the holding part of the Leofoto stand,
flip the top short arm back and forth,
screw it in the tubercle screw,
put the spacer,
and just attach the MagSafe mount. That's all.
There are two small disadvantages.
First, it is fixed with a single foot screw, so if force is applied in the direction that the screw loosens, it will inevitably loosen.
Practically, it's not a problem at all because you can always turn the screw in the direction of tightening.
Another disadvantage is the unnecessary angle for an iPad stand for desk work, for example, it can move to an oblique direction.
There is nothing we can do about it because of its ball-shaped base. However it doesn't matter once you get used to it.
I evaluate more the compactness and lightness of a little over 100g rather than two weaknesses.
The stiffness of the joint can be adjusted by rubbing the screw.
I haven't found a use for it yet, but it is Arca-Swiss compatible, so it can be fixed to a tripod.
In addition, another very welcome solution is conversion of Majextand to MafSafe.
It's really easy. The unfolding/folding operation is much more comfortable than with Leofoto & NEEWER stands.
Pick up the magnets,
and screw MagSafe, a kind of Brother of Moment, on.
Two screws are fixed, so I don't have to worry about it rotating on its own.
Moment's magnetism is very strong, so you can make it 10 times easier to remove iPad by putting a 5mm thick rubber sheet on it.
The weak point is that it is too big and awkward when folded,
and it weighs about 146g.
So this is a stand for home use.
I can use both of them on my iPhone as is. Once I was seriously trying to use an iPhone 15 Pro as my EDC desk computer.
But the screen is too small to work or read, not being able to write by hand or splitting the screen
So, I ended up going back to the iPad mini because of the inability to split the screen.
Without exaggeration, I'm convinced that the iPad mini has the power to change our lives.
For example, we can GET the seeds of ideas from books, keep e a piece of inspiration i the memo,
develop and nurture it with mind map, and shape it by writing them down.
It is the best device for "thinking.
A neighbor says that the thinking ability is the ultimate secret tool and the only power we can completely control over.
Therefore, we can change our lives with the iPad, especially iPad mini, which we can carry with us at all times rather than MacBook..
Back to the story, the keyboard is minipeg48. It is only 21cm wide, 7cm deep, 2cm thick and weighs 251g.
It's great that it has 48 keys, so it is easy to use with the keyball on the main desk.
The body is actually aluminum and has a high-end feel.
But the keystroke feel is not so good.
If you are used to LOFREE FLOW, you may feel the keystroke of minipeg48 like a cheap toy.
Moreover, there are a lot of hurdle before using it ,
I can't recommend it at all to 99.999...% of my viewers who are not swamp dwellers.
By the way, when carrying, I wrap it with a magic cloth that sticks together when stacked.
Please remember this cloth because the self-adhesive ability is excellent.
The mouth of Rapoo M600mini is the best.
The size and thinness are ideal for EDC desk, and I have no particular complaints about the usability and design.
About the cable, master CIO's soft one,15cm is the best.
I've been only using the soft Type C 30cm cable for EDC desk of Mr. Rasta Banana, but finally a strong rival has appeared.
However, from the perspective of wiring engineering aiming for the shortest connection, 10 cm of Δ (delta) is hopeless.
As a result, millimeter-by-millimeter adjustments, making full use of connector orientation, part lengths, and terminal positions, will continue to be necessary.
By the way, EDC desk has a good secret rival against with the iPad mini.
Some know, the others don't know and keep losing their losses for their life time like a fossa magna-like lifehack, MEMO.
I always take notes at both my main desk and my physical work desk.
For example, the super neat pen-holding solution I mentioned in the first half,
It's just an idea that came to me unexpectedly when I was browsing through some random notes I had left.
I take voice notes on my Apple Watch while driving or in the bed.
An app called Draft is super because it transcribes audio on its own. I introduced it in another video.
And for this EDC desk, I've been using Grovemade's notepad for years, which is my super, super favorite desk brand.
It's not just a notepad.
The leather texture, design and size are excellent, of course, but my favorite point is the disk-shaped ring.
With this, multiple sheets could be unfolded, turned inside out for spreads, or rearranged in order...
and you can put everything back together again. It's really fantastic.
And the best input device is Pen Type-C by CW&T, a genius design firm in New York.
First of all, I love its thinness and lightness.
Do you guess that it's hard to hold🥱?
The wide width actually makes it easy to hold, it's true. This is created by the genius.
The material is grade 5 titanium alloy, the same as the iPhone 15 Pro series.
Refills are made by Pilot and you can buy them easily on Amazon.com in Japan.
The steel part tends to rust a little. I sometimes wipe the rust off with KURE 5-56.
I take care of it and cherish it more because I feel like I'm nurturing it.
Just looking at the color variations is fun. Why don't you buy all of them and compare them with each other?
Now, let me intorduce other necessary items.
Mye wallet is Bellroy as well as my bag. I like its compact size and softness that won't damage the surroundings.
I keep it in my bag as a holder for cards, bills, receipts, etc. that can't be put in the Snap On.
As a hand-sweat person, a cloth is also indispensable. Elecom's cleaning cloth is very popular, but it is a little bulky.
So, I recommend Kyung Cham leather for EDC desks. It has perfect wiping power and can be washed many times without any worries.
In addition, a mobile battery is also a must for the iPad mini desk.
I've chosen a super compact Anker Nano Power Bank with a terminal.
The battery capacity is enough to fully charge an iPad mini less than once, but I think it is enough for daily use.
I'm happy with the function of Charging Walk.
Finally, I would like to tell you about a special final trick that I really recommend, or rather, I really like it myself.
It could change the environment of your iPad desk work. Now I'm going to demonstrate it for you.
I tap keys.,
choose the task I want to do from now on,
then the workspace I need will open automatically.
And I can work while switching workspaces quickly and easily.
Let me explain what's so great about it, by showing writing sentences.
On the right is the main work area. All workspaces is set with the same application and the same screen.
For example, this time it is the text editor Ulysses.
And only on the left side, Chrome for information gathering per workspace, Notion for information DB, and Draft for notepad are opened separately.
In this way, I can refer to the necessary information across the applications on the left side, while I can work on the main task on the right side.
Naturally, all updates in the right side app are immediately reflected in the workspace.
What do you think? There were about 70 million comrades who said Split View iwas convenient but stressful to reopen the apps and they were going bald 👨🦲
Only me🌚?
Let me explain how to do this just in case. The first step is to call it with the keyboard.
I set the command; Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard > Full Keyboard Access.
I just call a shortcut I will explain later with this command.
Note that if you turn on full keyboard access, you can activate various commands just by pressing a key,
It is a good idea to delete all commands except those you use to avoid unexpected actions.
Next, let's look at the key mechanism to automatically open the Split View workspace. You can do it with a simple shortcut.
About the first popup part to specify the work. This is the "select from menu" action that comes up when you search for "menu".
Here are the items to try them out.
I set an action for creating Split Vew workspace here.
Now search for "split" and you will find "split screen with multiple apps". It'll be okay if you drag this under the target item.
Then, specify the app to open in Split View. That's all.
If you are concerned about the whole picture, please pause and check it out.
Last, set this shortcut that you just created to a command from the full keyboard access that you just did.
You can now call it with just a keystroke.
And let me add something about switching workspaces.
Basically, the iPad's default shortcut: 🌐 globe key + arrow keys do it instantly, but many external keyboards don't have the 🌐 key, do they?
So, General > Keyboard > Hardware Keyboard > assign the 🌐 key at Decorative Keys
I've been working with the 🌐 key assigned to the Ctrl key for many years and have never experienced any inconvenience.
I would be very happy if you could comment with more recommendations on how to use it.
All the items introduced in this article are listed in the summary section.
By the way, let me apologize for one last thing! 🙇♂️ Thank you for watching.
As many of you may have noticed, the iRing Slide and the rubber foot peeled off marks, as shown in the previous video...,
A lot of marks are left 😱...
These may not be caused by iRing Slide or rubber feet, but anhydrous ethanol for cleaning, or aluminum erosion due to my excessive hand sweat.
Anyway, I am very sorry if there are any viewers who are in a similar situation and feel shocked.
If so, please give this video a low rating and call it a done deal 🙏.
I'm sorry for such a crazy channel
but I hope your continued support in 2024 🎍.
