Transcripts
today we have to talk about an official
patent from Nintendo that actually backs
up a leak we talked about for Nintendo
switch 2 features because you might
remember a while back on the channel
there was an accessory manufacturer by
the name of mipad then we also had a
separate company take to the internet to
leak a bunch of information that they
knew about the nextg switch console and
essentially claimed that Nintendo
briefed them on the console for the
ability to get accessories rolling for
it but they were actually having to feel
the console through an opaque box and
they could not actually see the mockup
of the console but rather feel it with
their hands and they learned some things
about the dimensions they took to online
to make some pretty interesting claims
that actually detailed a lot of
information about the console and if you
were worried about any of that being
legitimate now not only do we have this
magnetic joycon feature actually
outlined in a brand new patent from
Nintendo but we also have seen this data
leak out via shipping documents over the
course of time which means Nintendo's
ordering these parts for their nextg
Hardware so that more or less in my
opinion confirms this previous leak to
me now that we have all of these
multiple data points of information so I
definitely want to walk through all of
that and also what was leaked out from
mobad cuz it's been a while and you may
have forgotten some of the features that
we discussed at that point in time and
there is also a renewal for a cartridge
patent that is exactly tied to the
switch one cartridge that leads many
online to believe that this is just a
necessary step that Nintendo would have
to do on the back end to allow backwards
compatibility from a physical games
perspective to take plays on their nextg
Hardware so we're going to get on the
same page with all of that before we do
make sure you like subscribe and turn on
your bell notification to join Suber
Nation if you're new here and we have to
first take a look at the patent mockup
that does detail the internals of a
Nintendo switch but we do not know what
model of course and Nintendo doesn't
have to be specific about if this is the
successor model or not but there are
some key differences from what the
internals have looked like in the past
compared to this one one of which has to
do with this magnetic force sensor that
you can see on screen that you would
only need to put in the console if
there's some kind of Mag switch action
going on which is the big thing that
people have noticed and beneath that you
can see the ambient light sensor the
temperature sensor but the big new thing
that is really being called into
question here is this magnetic force
sensor especially with that being
spotted and is new in this patent
compared to all of the previous filings
we have seen you can also see two
different slots above which should
reference a cartridge slot it's possible
that this would be an SD card but it two
separate slots and one says first slot
and what's not clear is if this is in
the same exact spot on the console
meaning like maybe you can put in a
cartridge One Direction and then also
put it in a different direction or if
there's just two different readers that
it connects to kind of like you would
expect with a 3DS SL DS situation when
you're popping in an old DS cartridge
into a 3DS it's still able to read it
even though the 3DS cartridge slot is
different that is very much what this
type of patent could be pointing towards
or maybe an Nintendo actually has to do
two entirely separate cartridge slots
again it's not clear how that's being
handled but that is outlined in this
patent you then also have one that kind
of breaks down the magnetic feature just
a little bit further and it does appear
like there is a lock and unlock
mechanism where it shows the magnets
connecting it seems like these joycons
for the nextg console should still be on
some kind of rail system but the mag
switches will essentially make it to
where there's not that give or that kind
of lower grade feeling when playing in
handheld if you're in the middle of
intense gameplay and you notice like
your joycons are kind of bending off the
console a little bit if you're just kind
of moving it back and forth or trying to
shake it a little bit you notice a
little bit of give currently this would
in theory eliminate that and make for a
much more secure connection it is not
clear though entirely that Nintendo will
still use a rail system it's also
possible that these mag switches when
enabled are just that strong that you
don't have to worry about any kind of
rail system in general so like the slide
on slide off thing isn't even a a thing
anymore but rather you can just detach
them when they're unlocked perfectly
from like pulling it away from the
console so interesting Concepts from
that front and then you can also quickly
see just a renewal for a patent for a
Nintendo switch cartridge which does
lead into the idea that Nintendo after 8
years essentially from the last time
they updated this patent just
coincidentally doing it now could be a
signal that yeah they're kind of getting
the back end of things ready for us
being able to purchase switch one
cartridges and also have them supported
in the nextg console so the magnetic
joycon thing and obviously the big win
that is we should be able to pretty
safely expect at this point backwards
compatibility obviously nothing's
confirmed until Nintendo says it but it
seems like there's enough writing on the
wall that we can pretty much safely
assume that Nintendo is going to allow
us to play our entire library of switch
games both physically and digitally that
is great news but this also ties into
like I mentioned the previous list of
leaked information from mobad because
now that we have shipping data from the
past and we have these patents and we
have all of these different renewals
happening that suggest that backwards
compatibility and the mag switches are a
thing both of these were claimed in the
mipad article so that's what I want to
quickly revisit and you can see the
following six pieces of information that
they outline in bullet points which
reads the switch 2 will continue to
support existing joycons and the Pro
Controller still equipped with Alps dual
access linear motors for HD Rumble the
cartridge slot for the switch 2 will
support backwards compati ility with
physical switch Game cartridges ensuring
compatibility with players existing game
libraries including digital versions
however the second generation cartridges
may not be compatible with the first gen
console which I don't know who would
think that they would but that's
outlined nonetheless the new version of
the joycon has a larger volume and the
sliding rail structure has been changed
to Magnetic suction the SL and Sr
buttons are metal buttons magnetic
suction is achieved through
electromagnetic suction technology
controlled by electric current it's
worth noting that in addition to the the
L zlr and ZR buttons on the side of the
joy-con controller a third button has
been added on both the left and the
right sides additionally below the home
button on the right joy-con there is an
additional function button the bottom of
the switch 2 will still feature a USBC
port for docking and the new generation
dock will undergo minor changes in
appearance while enhancing performance
supporting 4K resolution the new dock
will feature a dampening bracket on the
back allowing for greater range of
adjustable angles the screen will be
upgraded to an 8in display supporting
1080p resolution though again the more
data points that are uncovered online
that back up all of these previous leaks
and rumors that we've heard about the
system just gets me that much more
excited while we wait for Nintendo to
officially reveal it because yeah if we
have everything like magnetic attaching
joycons that are going to feel extremely
solid for the console additional buttons
on the backs of the console which would
might be very nice for the joycon and
handheld a bigger overall form factor
for the joy-con and an 8 in display
that's going to be all big win type of
stuff now we still don't know about the
display technology it seems like it's
suggested that it will be an LCD and not
an OLED that will very much feel like a
step backwards for most folks after
you've played on an OLED because myself
included the OLED is a massive massive
upgrade from the base model switch in
handheld play but what I would like to
point out is that we are not going to be
dealing with a 2016 2017 technology LCD
in this console like we did on the OG
switch like we are definitely going to
see it look significantly better in
terms of color brightness and everything
it supports but it is hard to match OLED
technology even if it's a very Nic
looking LCD but that's probably going to
give Nintendo the ability to three four
years into this next gen consol's life
cycle maybe give us that OLED model just
like they did with this switch so it's a
possibility that it's a feature that's
not there day one I would love Nintendo
to even if they had to throw an extra
$50 on the price tag bump it up to 450
but give it a little bit of extra memory
as well have a premium OLED model at
launch and you can choose between which
model you want if you don't play in hand
handheld that much you get a $400 price
point console and if you do play in
handheld and you want that OLED
experience you get a 450 price point for
the console but all of that remains to
be seen but the fact that everything
mobad has suggested here has just gotten
more evidence as time has gone on
unfolding makes me that much more
confident that this is legit information
and that also spells great news for
backwards compatibility and US physical
game collectors not only will it be
backwards compatible with like your shop
purchases and stuff like that but also
all of your game cartridges and I kind
of figured that was a no-brainer for
Nintendo on this console because one the
library of the switch is just too vast
and too awesome for Nintendo to just cut
it off because they actually have
Evergreen games that continue to sell 7
and 1 half plus full years since this
console has launched and they continue
to do serious numbers so one you want to
continue to sell that software in your
next gen console but two they've had a
really good track record with offering
backwards compatibility on their
handheld console cons specifically at
least with the prior model and I really
feel like the only times they've missed
is when they've gone through a massive
media shift in terms of how you actually
play the game if we exclude like NES
SNES and N64 obviously those are a
little bit different situations but you
go to the Game Cube and forward and
outside of like the jump from the Wii U
to the switch which was a media shift in
terms of how you read your games well
they've really done a good job of
supporting backwards compatibility at
least with the most recent system before
it so that's what I think of all the
stuff but now I really want to hear from
you guys what do you think of these
updated patents with Nintendo now
essentially outlining in their own
official documents that magnetic force
sensors are included and that we have
exact outlines of just how that
technology works and them updating their
official Nintendo switch cartridge
patent this late into the switch's life
cycle do you think that things like
backwards compatibility and magnetic
joycons are now more or less a lock and
do you think that the rest of the
information from the mobad article that
we saw an accessory manufacturer for
Nintendo switch is indeed real and it
has all of the legit info on the nextg
console and would you be happy to
purchase an LCD 8 in screen day one at
400 or you like me and you would
definitely like to see an OLED option
even if it cost you $50 more at retail
on day one but make sure you share all
your thoughts and feelings in the
comments down below before you leave
regardless if we agree or disagree also
make sure you like subscribe turn your
notification Bell and with that I've
been Sun brro you've been Nation thanks
so much for watching and I'll see you
guys in the next video
