Transcripts

play00:00

Hey everyone.

play00:00

Welcome back to our another episode of Exploring CA Profiles, and this episode

play00:05

is gonna be different because this is not only about the profile, but yeah.

play00:10

This about the CA in Dubai.

play00:11

So a few days back I just posted on Instagram that, what are

play00:14

the questions which you want to ask from the ca in Dubai.

play00:17

And I have received a very good response on that.

play00:19

Okay.

play00:19

So in this episode we are going to ask all those questions to one of my friend who

play00:23

is a working professional in Dubai and who is recently got married and like still, he

play00:28

is giving me time to take this interview.

play00:30

Thank you so much, Raul for that.

play00:31

Okay, so let's get started.

play00:33

Okay, so my first question is, can you just give me a brief introduction,

play00:36

like when did you clear your CA finals?

play00:37

What other qualifications do you have apart from Ca and how did you

play00:41

decided that, okay, you want to ship to Dubai and everything about you?

play00:45

Where from, where do you belong like that Thank you kavita So I am, uh, Rahul Ranjan

play00:50

a chartered accountant by profession.

play00:51

I cleared my chartered accountancy in November, 2018 . After that, I got a

play00:57

job in Dubai via Linkedin uh, apart from chartered accountancy, I did diploma

play01:01

IFRS because, uh, when I cleared my ca exams, India was not in arts labors.

play01:06

So, and I always wanted to work overseas.

play01:09

So I thought getting an, uh, getting a diploma in, IFRS will be, uh,

play01:13

will give me a little bit advantage to get a job in, uh, middle East.

play01:17

I have total four years of experience working in dubai.

play01:20

Uh, three years I was, uh, in financial accounting advisory services where

play01:24

I was implementing IFRS standards, like if RS nine, if RS 15, 16 and 17.

play01:30

And then, uh, from the last, uh, the last year, I shifted to a new company,

play01:35

uh, that is also consulting firm I am in the risk and compliance department.

play01:39

So currently I'm doing operational risk assessment for, uh, and some fraud

play01:44

risk assessment for insurance company.

play01:46

Okay.

play01:46

So when, uh, did you shifted to Dubai, like as a fresher chartered accountant?

play01:49

Did you got, uh, the job in the Dubai or like you have some working experience

play01:53

in India and then you got shifted it?

play01:55

No, I was only having articles of experience of three years,

play01:58

which we all sees have.

play02:00

So I got a job there as a fresher.

play02:02

So, uh, uh, just your next day of me clearing, uh, the Chartered Accountant's

play02:07

exam, I got a message on Linkedin.

play02:09

, uh, from one of, uh, my senior managers in that firm.

play02:12

Uh, do you want to work in Dubai?

play02:14

I told yes and interview was done and within one week I got the job.

play02:18

Yeah.

play02:18

And, uh, this one is for the, uh, those, uh, students, the CA final

play02:23

student who have multiple attempts.

play02:24

So I'm also multiple attempt Chartered accountant.

play02:27

You.

play02:28

But, uh, what I want to say is that always work hard, improve, keep working

play02:32

on your skills and you will get a job.

play02:34

It's very easy to get a job if you have the right skill set.

play02:37

So me being a multiple attempt CA I easily cracked all the,

play02:40

uh, interview and I got it.

play02:42

That's so great to hear.

play02:43

And it's kind of a motivational too.

play02:45

Okay, so let's start with a chain of questions, which,

play02:48

uh, students have asked to me.

play02:50

Okay.

play02:50

So their first question is like, is there any campus placement program

play02:53

organized by ICAI for, uh, generally for the, like, for the aspirants

play02:57

who wants to work in the Dubai?

play02:58

Because I guess our degree is applicable to the Dubai also.

play03:01

So, uh, I'm not sure of any campus placements specifically organized

play03:05

for Dubai, but I think our institute organizes some overseas campus placement.

play03:09

So I have never participated in that, I'm not sure.

play03:12

But, for those, students who want to work overseas, uh, the best

play03:17

way to get a job is via referral.

play03:19

Build your connections on LinkedIn.

play03:21

and, do networking.

play03:23

A lot of networks, send cold emails, text messages, build your network.

play03:28

And then I think you may land up a job in overseas.

play03:31

This is one of, uh, the best way.

play03:33

The second way, is to apply, in the carrier.

play03:36

Job websites like you have in, middle East.

play03:40

You have gulf jobs, you have Nok gulf apply on those websites and you

play03:44

have to keep on applying because it's not, sitting in India and getting

play03:48

a job overseas is not that easy.

play03:50

So you have to keep on applying, build your network, and you will

play03:53

land it if you have the right skill.

play03:54

Set the skills which recruiters want if you have it.

play03:58

You will land a job.

play03:58

Okay.

play03:59

So that means like while being in India, like while staying in India

play04:03

also we can start to apply and we can give the interviews and after clearing

play04:06

their interview, we can move to Dubai.

play04:08

Right?

play04:08

Like we don't need to go to that country and then find the jobs third way.

play04:12

Yeah, definitely.

play04:13

If someone is able to travel to the Dubai, because it's a costly thank you,

play04:17

need to, be there for at least a month.

play04:21

, there will be some expenses.

play04:22

So if you're ready to invest that much time and money, then

play04:26

yeah, the probability of getting a job in the way is much higher.

play04:30

If you are in the Dubai and you're looking for a job, but that is a bit costly.

play04:36

So, because many students, those who are freshers will not be

play04:39

able to invest that much amount.

play04:41

So it's better, uh, to build your connections in India and start applying.

play04:45

Okay, so my next question is, what are the profiles available for

play04:48

Indian CA's there like auditing.

play04:50

Auditing must be different, I guess.

play04:52

In India, auditing happens with our laws.

play04:54

So how different is that and what are the other profiles available?

play04:58

Like taxation or IFRS?

play04:59

You have said profiles for Indian ca are, uh, if you are in Big4's

play05:04

there will be audit profiles, statutory audit, internal audits.

play05:07

Then, uh, UAE also introduced, uh, value added tax.

play05:11

In, I think November in 2018 or 17 it got introduced.

play05:15

So there is a lot of opportunities in indirect taxation that now, they

play05:19

are also introducing corporate tax.

play05:21

So there are a lot of opportunities now in corporate tax and international

play05:24

taxation because, Saudi, they also have.

play05:28

Corporate tax from, from many years.

play05:30

So now they're, uh, the companies in Dubai, uh, they have a lot of

play05:34

transactions, across the Middle East.

play05:36

So those countries which have corporate tax, there will be a lot

play05:38

of transfer pricing things, which, uh, there are a lot of opportunities

play05:41

in transfer pricing right now.

play05:42

So this is about the ca in job, let's say like a ca wants

play05:46

to, build a practice in Dubai.

play05:47

So is it, is it possible practice?

play05:48

Yes, there are a lot of, uh, ca firms a lot of chartered accountants who

play05:52

are practicing, they have their firms uh, there are a lot of small firms,

play05:56

uh, cas, who are doing practice.

play05:58

So my next question is like, what is the average package a CA fresher can get?

play06:02

So if you are in big four, uh, you can get something around 10,000 s to 11,000 s as

play06:07

an associate consultant or a consultant.

play06:10

So it all depends on your skills and negotiation.

play06:13

So if someone is getting 10,000, there will be cas who might

play06:15

be getting 5,000, 7,000 also.

play06:18

So it all depends, uh, based on your qualification, based

play06:21

on how you gave the interview.

play06:22

So there is no right or wrong answer for this.

play06:25

So something around seven to 11,000, uh, ca can get easily,

play06:29

someone is getting less than that.

play06:31

Then, then this would makes sure that they're, uh, being, they're provided

play06:35

with accommodation by their company.

play06:37

If they're not provided accommodation and their salary is 5,000, then it's a bit d.

play06:42

Otherwise, seven to 11,000 is what most of the freshers get.

play06:47

I'm talking in dhirams right?

play06:49

Monthly.

play06:50

Right, right.

play06:50

Okay.

play06:51

Monthly.

play06:51

Okay.

play06:52

This is monthly.

play06:53

And how much is the average, uh, cost of living, like the rent expenses,

play06:56

food expenses for a bachelor, and as well as for a settled person,

play07:00

like who are living individually.

play07:02

So someone, uh, who is a bachelor, if they go for a shared accommodation,

play07:06

the cost of living will be less.

play07:08

Suppose 1500 s, they can get a monthly sharing accommodation, then maybe

play07:14

thousand s for food and traveling.

play07:16

So 2,500 to 3000 is the average expense.

play07:21

It can be less also.

play07:22

It can be more also depending on people to people.

play07:24

So 3000 s for a batch.

play07:26

Okay.

play07:27

And like someone who is not a bachelor, who wants to get settled in the Dubai.

play07:31

Maybe six to 7,000 or, uh, it may be more, uh, depending on

play07:36

which location you are staying.

play07:37

If you're look, uh, staying in under metro.

play07:39

If you are, if you're having, uh, one bhk, it'll, uh, the rent, the cost will go up.

play07:45

. It all depends on your lifestyle.

play07:46

So, but someone who settled, they can, uh, manage with six to 7,000 grams per month.

play07:51

So how much is like, how much we can save on an average in

play07:55

Indian rupees, like monthly?

play07:56

How much we can save?

play07:57

It all depends on your package.

play07:58

Someone's salary is 10 thousands dhirams and they, uh, their

play08:02

expenditure is 50%, 5,000.

play08:04

They can save 5,000 tariffs, which is equivalent.

play08:07

Right now the exchange rate, uh, exchange rate is 22.

play08:10

So 5,000 into 22.

play08:12

Something around one lack 10,020.

play08:14

Okay.

play08:15

Okay.

play08:15

So anyways, it's like better than doing job in India, . Okay.

play08:18

And how is the monetary growth in long run?

play08:20

Like, how is the increment percentage on an average, like you can say a

play08:24

range, or if you wanna switch from one company to another company, then

play08:28

how is the average hike you can get?

play08:30

See, uh, many people I've heard, uh, including me, I will say,

play08:33

uh, you can expect a hundred percent growth if you are to.

play08:37

Uh, again, I will say, uh, not everyone will get that.

play08:40

It depends on the way you negotiate, the way you gave your interview.

play08:43

It's, it depends on person to person, so there is no average rate.

play08:47

Some people get 50.

play08:49

If you're not able to give your interview well, are not able to negotiate,

play08:52

you may end up getting 25%, 20%.

play08:55

So, but, uh, there is a lot of growth op uh, growth opportunities in, uh, You can

play09:00

easily get a hundred percent growth also.

play09:02

Okay.

play09:02

And like if you're staying in the same company, then how about the agreement?

play09:06

Promotions and all again, depends on the performance, how you are performing.

play09:09

So it can range up to 20, 25%.

play09:14

If you are not perform well, maybe 10% depending on what package you are.

play09:18

If your salary's loaded, uh, then the percentage will.

play09:21

Like if your salary is 7,000, 8,000, then 20, 25% or 40, even 40%

play09:27

they give if your salary is less.

play09:28

But if your salary is, may be more then 15, 20%.

play09:32

So, uh, again, it's very subjective, you know, it depends on person to

play09:35

person, the way you are performing.

play09:39

If you're performing well, then definitely you don't have to

play09:41

worry about money in the Dubai.

play09:42

Okay, , so my next question is like, how is the work culture there, how it is

play09:47

different from India, and how do you feel?

play09:50

Like being there, how is the food and all these things.

play09:54

So the work culture is very good.

play09:56

I have not faced any problem in my last four years.

play10:00

I'm traveling to other GCC countries like Bahrain, QAT, Saudi.

play10:04

The work culture is very good everywhere.

play10:06

I have never faced any problem as of now.

play10:10

The are a lot of Indian cas who are working there.

play10:12

We have a Dubai chapter also.

play10:14

. So which organizes lot of, um, CP events, which happens almost on a regular basis.

play10:20

So, uh, the work culture is good.

play10:22

The food, if you are, you get all kinds of Indian food in Dubai, you

play10:28

will not face any problem whether you are a gujrati , Marathi , Rajasthani

play10:31

you get everything Punjabi.

play10:35

You get, there are people from all the different parts of INDIA.

play10:39

And there are places where you will only find Indians.

play10:42

Okay, that's great.

play10:43

Like you don't miss the Indian touch there.

play10:46

Yeah, you don't miss the Indian touch, you don't miss the Indian for, so how to apply

play10:50

a job in Dubai you have already said that via LinkedIn or like via telecom groups.

play10:54

You can, but like is there anything from where we can get to know,

play10:59

okay, this company is having vacancy so we can apply there.

play11:03

No, I don't think there is any such thing.

play11:06

, if there is any vacancy that will be posted on LinkedIn.

play11:09

So on LinkedIn you can just, go to the search criteria and, put

play11:13

a filter in the country, Dubai.

play11:15

Then you will get all the jobs which are there.

play11:17

This is one of the way in which you can, because most of the

play11:21

companies, post the jobs in LinkedIn also, so you can apply from there.

play11:25

If you see any job from X measured company, then start connecting with

play11:29

the people in that company on LinkedIn.

play11:31

Send your CV to them on LinkedIn and send your CV to the hiring manager.

play11:35

If, you are able to find the name of the hiring manager

play11:39

or to the HR of the company.

play11:40

So this are some of the ways in which you can, send your

play11:44

CV across the right person.

play11:46

There is no particular website I will say where you can get to know.

play11:49

Yeah.

play11:50

So there is only, uh, the other way I told build connections.

play11:52

So my last question is like, uh, how is the opportunity if someone wants to

play11:56

come back, let's say, okay, you have spent five years or 10 years in the way

play11:59

and now you want to come back to India.

play12:01

So, um, for that Kavita it depends on which profile you are working.

play12:05

If someone is working in, UAE okay.

play12:07

That is, different from Indian gst.

play12:11

So, uh, it'll be a little bit challenge for them to adopt gsg.

play12:15

But if you're working in internal audit, if you are working in risk and

play12:18

compliance, if you are doing operational transfer banks or fraud risk assessment

play12:22

or, uh, the profiles which do not require, knowledge of Indian laws,

play12:27

So then it'll be very easy to come back to India and, start a job here.

play12:33

But, uh, if you, uh, are working in corporate taxation, say, then again, you

play12:39

will have to learn the Indian income tax.

play12:41

So, There will be some efforts required to transition.

play12:44

Okay, so I guess like I have asked most of the, commonly asked

play12:48

questions to you and thank you so much for attending this session.

play12:52

Like even though you are so busy with your marriage rituals, if I have left anything,

play12:56

then I'll provide Rahul's LinkedIn ID in the description box and you can definitely

play12:59

message him and Rahul will be so happy to guide you further and answer you.

play13:04

And you can even send your CV to him.

play13:06

Thank you Kavita, for inviting me to your show.

play13:08

Okay guys, so let's send this video here and, uh, please subscribe

play13:11

for more such useful content.

play13:12

Thanks for watching.
