Transcripts
hi everyone this is part two of our
lecture video for the third lesson the
manager okay let's just continue
[Music]
with the management roles okay there you
go all right so aside from what I have
mentioned to you and what you know about
the role of a manager in general we have
10 specific management
rules and those 10 have three
categories first is interpersonal roles
next is informational roles and the last
one is decisional
roles so let's have first the
interpersonal management
rules for so in this category we have
three so let's have this one
the Figure Head okay what do you mean by
figure head so aside from what was
written there in the slide so a figure
head it's they are like the brain of the
company if you are familiar with a
poinar abini he is
the right so
that's just an analogy it's like the
role of the figure head okay so they act
as the symbolic role symbolic role or
symbolic leader of the organization or
the company okay so what they do they
attend
ceremonies G they give speeches and they
rep they represent the organization at
official events like for instance there
are like a gathering of all the um
let's just say
um like a frch franchising companies for
instance or the shoppy
sellers the Gathering of the sellers and
um shop in shoppy store the online store
so the Figure Head usually attend those
um events so that is the role of the
Figure Head
okay next one is the
leader so the leader motivates and
manages the team so first the figure
head is like the brain of the company
and then the leader is the one who
executes who executes the things that uh
that the company must do to achieve the
goal so they motivate so they manages
the team members they provide guidance
and support so for instance they conduct
some performance evaluation they offer
trainings they Foster the team
development how they do team buildings
they do
seminars they communicate with the
members inside a department or in the
company okay that is the goal of the
leader now the third one for
interpersonal management roles we have
here
the Leon or the liazon so there are two
pronunciation for that one leaon or
liazon okay so
well usually I hear people say liason
liason officer so the correct one is
liazon with a z sound liazon or the
liazon
okay so what do what do or mean what do
leas and officers do so they are the one
who maintains
relationships and they communicate with
some groups or with some companies
outside the
organization so they are the ones who
always uh visits places who visits other
companies to ensure that their partners
to ensure
the the situation or the what do you
call
this
the updates I cannot find the right term
not updates but something like related
to the to the partnership of certain
companies so they ensure
that I cannot find a term but the thing
is um but the main point of this one is
leoon officers always communicate with
their Partners to ensure that their
companies or their partnership is still
on or it still is working well they
interact with the clients or the
suppliers they interact with the
external partners and they um they
ensure
that I cannot really find the right
ter okay
all right let's just give me let's let
me give you an example
so I have a cousin who is a leoon
officer of uh are you fam if you're
familiar with the store um Auntie ants
it's like a bakery you usually see it in
the mall an the ants so he works there
and he you what he usually do what he
usually does is
that the company or the main off office
of that company was situated in passic
city and he usually goes to bulakan to
Laguna to interact with or to
communicate with their Partners there so
that's the that's the role of a leoon
officer okay now let's proceed with the
informational management roles oh by the
way just to wrap things up so usually
for
the for interpersonal management roles
they focused on communicating so
first so first the Figure Head they
still communicate like they give
speeches they attend events like they
are the public figure of the company so
that's the figure head and then the
leader they interact with communicate
with their
um with their with the employees with
the members and the leoon officers they
communicate with external partners of
the
organization okay now let's have the
informational management
roles first one here is the monitor okay
so what do they do so they collect and
they analyze information that is
relevant to the organization ation so
for example they review
reports sales like for instance it's a
it's an e-commerce so they review the
sales there they track the industry
Trends and then they also gather
feedback from the employees or even the
customers like for instance um let me
give you an example M inal so those
people who give service to service to
customers they are the monitor or
the managers who monitor the the status
quo or the situations or even the uh
operation of the management or operation
or the production of the company or
department so that is the role of a
monitor okay next is the
disseminator so when you disseminator
they disseminate information they
distribute they Cascade information to
team members and even
stakeholders so for example they share
updates so for instance if the sale is
good I mean the sale um the sales rate
of the company is positive they
distribute that
information they really important news
so for instance they have um raise uh in
terms of salary so they they inform the
members they inform the employees about
that and even if there are changes in
the policy or procedure this um the
information about policies and
procedures is very crucial in a company
why because if you failed as a
disseminator if you fail to disseminate
or distribute the
information it might cost your
company there might be client who will
complain about the service and the
product just because a certain man a
certain department or a certain um
employee did not know about the change
in the policy so their role is a very
important so just to compare so in a
classroom setting they are the
Pio they are the Pio officers of the
room so ass simulator okay now let's
continue with the spokes
person okay spokes person they represent
the organization to external entities
and they communicate exp positions or
actions so for instance they speak to
the media so for
example there
is I am not sure if you were familiar
with the issue about Shawarma
shock yeah Shawarma shock I am not sure
it was during my high school year so
perhaps
2015 yeah somewhere that year summer
that period there were there were rumors
circulating about Shawarma Shack they
said that um there were rats in
their in their storage
rooms so of course if they did not
defend the company the Sharma Shack will
lose its Integrity will lose their
license
perhaps so what they can do to control
the situation they can have like a
conference or they will they can publish
something in the news and they speak to
the media to present their stance their
positions so that's one that's one of
the role of a spokes person okay they
also make oh yeah the public statements
like a
mentioned um
showtime for instance the show um
Showtime about a
certain
um you're if you're familiar with the vi
and ion issue about the cake
tasting yeah
so in if you visit if you visit the page
of Showtime They have this public
statement there so the person who posted
or the person who delivered that public
statement is a spokesperson of the
company all right so that is the role of
a
spokesperson now let's have the last
category which is the dis decisional
management
roles in this part we have four so first
one is entrepreneur so all right people
so it's not Entre preneur it's
entra entrepreneur or entrepreneur but
usually in um American pronunciation
it's nure entrepreneur okay so I hope
you practice practice with me
entrepreneur okay so when you say
entrepreneur they are the
ones who initiates and they implements
new ideas and Innovations for a company
so for example if you're an entrepreneur
you
have your team or your department was
able
to create or formulate a certain idea or
a certain
Innovation which can help the company
for
convenience for their production and the
efficiency of the operation in general
so that's why one so decisional rules
meaning
that the term itself they Implement they
initiate for Innovations for the company
for example they develop new products
they explore new markets and even some
improvement initiatives in a company so
for
example
um for example uh I have used this
example before about the National
Bookstore so for them to have or
to to gain more people to buy their
product so they have the they have the
project where you buy an envelope in um
consisting of school supplies for
students so you will buy that envelope
that set of school supplies you will pay
the cashier but you were not able to you
are you won't be able to get that school
supplies they will distribute it to
those students who need it so that's one
like for example you thought of that
idea oh for instance you're an
entrepreneur inside a company so you can
you can suggest that one we can do this
to to have or to increase our sales rate
and to encourage people to help I mean
to help students and to buy the product
so that could be one of the things that
you will do all right so those are the
things that entrepreneur do in a certain
and um in a certain
organization all
right the next one is
the disturbance Handler so disturbance
Handler so they addresses and resp
solves conflicts and even the unexpected
issues inside the company like for
instance for instance there were
disputes um there were
disputes among employees so dis
disturbance hand disturbance Handler um
resolves that issue they they handle the
situation they control the
situation another example if there are
crisis management crisis in a company
even disruptions in the operation so
they are the one who handles that
okay next one is the
resource resource allocator So when you
say when you say resource allocator they
decide how to allocate
resources like money the time Personnel
when you mean Personnel the people the
employees so for example how many
employees will be working inside the
operation in the field itself and how
many employees will work in the
workforce management or workforce
management they are the ones who handle
the schedule
the scheduling of the
operations okay so I am not sure if um
other companies have that one but in ESL
and BPO companies they usually have
workforce management like for
instance um these this team will have
this um the shifting SC the shift so
they decide the shift of the employees
like for instance morning shift 8 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. and then the pm. shift will
be 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. so just an
example so one that's one um for money
of course the budget for the company so
there are the ones who all who handles
that one okay next the last
one
negotiator well from the word itself
they negotiate
they negotiate on behalf of the
organization like for
example negotiate um negotiating
contracts they also set um settle
disputes for example there is a there is
an employee who complains to do are you
familiar with Dole I hope you
are it's very important that you know
what Dolly means
okay so Dolly means
the all right I'm so
sorry Dolly means the department of
labor and employment I hope you remember
that one so as early as now please
please um learn about those government
agencies that is related to your to your
especially to your
what all this strand okay by the way so
for instance there's an employee who
complains to Dolly so of course if the
dolly finds out about finds out about
the um issue inside the company it will
ruin their it might ruin their
reputation dolly dolly have the power to
close the company so what do what
negotiators do
they negotiate they settle the disput
of so they will speak with do and they
will speak with the employee like
perhaps some of the PE um some of the
people in the companies sometimes give
monetary um what do you call this they
give money to those who are affected
just to resolve the issue but others
they don't really accept the money they
go to court so if you are a negotiator
you must do what it takes for you to
what do you call this mitigate or
deescalate the
situation so that what negotiators do
okay so those are the management roles
in an organization or a company now for
the last one we have a manager M skills
so we have three here we have conceptual
skills human skills and technical skills
So when you say conceptual skills they
have the ability to understand the
complex ideas Concepts and the product
the service of a company they they're
the one who
viewed those Concept in a bigger
picture Okay so they they develop
long-term plans they understand how the
organization interact with each of its
um component or each of its uh um what
do you call this
departments all right so they also
generate um
ideas how to improve those things how to
do um how to achieve
growth Okay so
for example the um they develop new
business models or products for the
company they create a vision uh or
strategy for the organization to achieve
its goal so those are the conceptual
skills so you as a managers as a manager
should have this one you should be able
to see the bigger
picture you will um you should
think three three four five steps
ahead for the Ben um for the benefit of
the company now let's say the human
skills so they um they have the ability
to work with people effectively the term
is effectively okay so they communicate
with them you this is your skill their
communic your communication skill you
should you should know how to use
psychology and communicating with people
not just with employees but even with
the um higher levels in the
management so those are the things that
you need to do so if you have a human
skills you'll be able to manage and
resolve issues or disputes among team
members or even the or the organization
as a whole and the last one is technical
skills so this part it's your specific
knowledge and ability is in performing a
task related to the job being assigned
to you so for example ABM you you are
all ABM students so it's your specific
um knowledge about um
bookkeeping um about um the salary um
one of the students uh told me about
journaling so account account in the
accounting department they do journals
and even the budget budgeting and
allocations of resources so those are
the things that you need to have the
technical skills
technicalities okay your expertise in
the
field so those are the management skills
you need to have for you to Be an
Effective managers someday so again
conceptual skills focusing on the bigger
picture Str
strategies next the human skills they
emphasize on the communicating with
people and the Team Dynamics and last
one technical skills involves your
specific
expertise on the uh related that tasks
okay
so that's all and I hope you you learned
a lot in this lesson
