so here we go then the remarkable paper
Pro and well I bought this one and it
came pretty quick they actually got here
a day earlier than they said they would
which is great news let's get out of the
box and have a look for you they've also
agreed to send me one I haven't actually
bought a folio this time and I will also
go ahead and get in a range of the
folios and the type folio to test as
well now if we just meetting and I'm kit
and on my channel I focus on Tech for
your joyful productive professional life
I'm a physics teacher and I'm also a
creative and I love making
[Music]
videos as I predicted the black does
look more like a deep blue than a black
it's not unpleasant but it is a deep
blue and that's because of the way this
gallery 3 in Inc Screen Works I've gone
into that in a lot of detail on my sort
of preview content of this how that
screen works one thing I think that they
do miss on this for a pro level device
not to have a fingerprint reader many of
us need to have our notes secure on this
type of device so now you're going to be
stuck putting in a pin all of the time
does look amazing just to say of course
you get a charging cable which is quite
a nice little
one flat one CTC and of course warranty
and quick start information so I've been
reviewing eink tablet since the end of
2019 when I bought the remarkable one
and I found that like many people and
let other people know in the comments if
you're one of them I found that I just
couldn't go back to paper planners and
notebooks now there's just so many
advantages of using e in notebooks for
that reason unlimited pages is one of
them being able to move the content
around as another one and although the
Remar was one of the first there is much
more choice now in the in tablet market
and I've got reviews and comparisons of
most of them out there because with this
type of device it isn't really just
about what's best but rather what's
going to be the best in in tablet for
your workflow so that's got the text in
there and here's the marker itself now I
bought the standard marker in this case
although I'm sure at some point I will
make a comparison and it snaps to the
side there and it charges magnetically
because this time it's not whack on EMR
which I think is probably a Miss they've
had to actually redesign this marker or
use a different standard to work better
with the gallery 3 ink screen they do
give you some marker tips although this
nib they are saying will be longer
lasting than the previous
ones in a very nice little case for you
to keep it in oh I see and you can just
insert the pen in there and that pulls
out a n when you do need to change it
over now if you do decide this is the
one for you then please consider going
there via the link in my description
because that really supports the channel
and there's no extra cost to you now it
is important to see because it is an
earing screen isn't going to be the
tablet for everyone and some of you
might just take a hard pass on this type
of tablet altogether and I think
honestly if you're totally happy using
OLED and LCD screens there's not really
a lot of reason why you need to go for
these however if you're someone who
still relies on paper alongside those
there is a reason why you can get
digital paper into your
life it's worth saying that the onscreen
keyboard is pretty responsive now so in
this video I'm just going to get it set
up and I'm going to have a look at two
things really Happ does the screen
response perform how are the colors on
it and how does the new marker perform
but then yeah I am very excited about
this tablet and I am going to absolutely
evaluate the out of it over the
next few weeks so if you have got any
questions then please fire away in the
comments and I will just try and address
those in my content as we go forward and
also let's do a live stream so maybe
tomorrow night Tuesday night I'll be
here live and I can answer those
questions about the tablet live it's
always really fun and one thing you do
have to remember when you watch this
video is that I do really want to love
this I really want this to be my go-to
for sketching and for digital notes and
for reading PDFs and really for writing
as well cuz I do a lot of writing to
prepare for these videos but I have been
over the last sort of three years
converted to the idea that I do want all
of the apps on eink as well so there are
lots of options in the open Android
category there's no app store on the
remarkable platform let alone a Google
Play Store it really is designed to be
this place for your focus for your
thinking for your notes but if this this
is good enough then there will be space
in my life for this to be my creative
iink canvas and then also for there to
be a productivity eing device like an
open Android books device and I'm just
really looking forward to finding out
drawing on this and writing on
it it should be the case that that now
just comes through with all of my notes
from my remarkable to so that is one
thing they have added in recent update
is you can have more than one remarkable
device on the same account and all of
the notes should sync between them
that's good news and the remarkable
Cloud apps are pretty good although it's
worth mentioning if this is your first
experience that to get the full use out
of those to be able to edit them on
different devices then you do need to
pay for The Connect subscription which
is about $2.99 per month so it's not
massively expensive now one question I
did have is will it actually scale my
notes from the remarkable to so this is
a slightly larger
screen and we've seen the comparison a
few times but the actual screen on this
is about the size of the remarkable
tablet itself was before there a a
little bit more room whilst it's doing
that let's have a look at the enclosure
they have gone for a sort of aluminum
bucket this time and they've managed to
make it only 0.4 of a millimeter thicker
than before now I can see there's this
yellow burn in here and that is the
ghosting that's typical of the gallery
free screen I don't think I've seen that
actually mentioned in any video yet that
is something that when it was on the
galley the big me device that is
something that was a real off-putting
thing because that gradually over time
using it built up and didn't look so
good and there was no way before to
actually do a full refresh you had to
just wait for it to decide to do a full
refresh and I wonder if they've changed
that now so some tutorials to go through
but yeah there's all my remarkable notes
down from the cloud so go ahead let's
open up a quick sheets yeah it seems to
have scaled everything up from as it was
before so it's the same notes but
everything is slightly larger because
it's a slightly larger screen when I
write on this when I view on the
previous remarkable it'll be slightly
smaller and I write on this it'll be
slightly larger so not the end of the
world you can zoom in and
out but of course you're going to be
happy with the sort of one size oh that
was pretty icky wasn't it what I'm going
to do is I'm going to go through these
tutorials on my first testing video and
that's going to be available in my
members only area and then I'm going to
actually sit and do a full drawing on
this tablet which I'm really excited to
do and that drawing on remarkable paper
pro video will be along shortly let's
try out the marker right away it's nice
and Light by the way
[Music]
yeah that feels really good there
certainly it's a nice giv in the screen
it's a nice feel in the marker there's
nothing wrong with
that that is nice and accurate diagonal
lines although this needs a battery it's
not too heavy so that's interesting that
it does need to be charged here on the
side you see the battery indicator comes
up there it hasn't made the whole marker
too much heavier this is the simple
marker that doesn't have the erase on
the back so you have to press the erase
[Music]
button that's interesting so there is
actually a bit more wubble than there
would be on a Wacom EMR stylus that
might disappoint some of
you but I am aware using active
capacitive styluses like the USI that
that generally doesn't get in the way
when you move the pen w
quickly and when you hand write so I
think that's going to be disappointing
for some of you though to
see it's a USI
stylus so they haven't really redesigned
the whole thing have they they've gone
for the USI standard perfectly
acceptable standard incidentally but
isn't the bespoke tech that it was made
out to be and this ladies and gentlemen
is why you need independent reviewers I
like the USI standard it's as I said
you'll in the preview video I said if
it's a USI standard it will be
acceptable but no better than acceptable
let's go ahead and look at some color
content and see how that screen actually
[Music]
looks wow there's a lot of flashing but
it said that I've got some screen
options automatic let's put the contrast
filter on
[Music]
W it's my
[Music]
book the Reds a little bit washed out it
isn't Speedy doing a page turn that's
for sure so I think images look better
without the contrast filter and text
look better with the contrast filter on
so hopefully you can just leave it on
automatic and it will detect whether
you've mainly got a text or images and
change
[Music]
it so I really wanted to see how
distracting that flashing is when you
read or write on the content and
actually yeah it is quite
distracting there's no latency when
you're making notes which is great in
black and that's because all it's having
to do is really just pull up all of the
color in to the surface so it can just
do that in one go no need to flash when
you're picking any kind of color well it
should do the S magenta and yellow
pretty quickly so let's try magenta
first so it starts blue actually and
then so it pulls all of them up and then
pulls down the other two inks so hence
why that flashes that color initially
the
cyan starts are kind of washed out color
there's not a lot of color to that is
there oh gosh then it has to flash
afterwards
through all the different colors there
to get to the
canion the yellow seems to be pretty
quick and then it has to refresh the
whole yellow there as
well oh I've had the front light right
on the whole time it's making very
little difference in my well lit room so
I've got video lights on the whole time
but there we are you can see that there
okay so I'm going to now go ahead and do
a drawing on it and then do my members
tested footage and yeah I'll tell you
what I think about it afterwards now I
talked a lot about bespoke tech so I've
already found out that the stylus is not
thepoke although it does seem to perform
better than the USI styluses themselves
so they've clearly tuned it to their
device you can see the USI stylus isn't
working very
well perhaps this needs to be charged at
a
minute perhaps they partnered with USI
to develop
this it's still very nice
and the colors are still very washed out
but I mean they're great for eting
standards let's not forget they're
certainly looking better than Kido free
colors but this gallery 3 that much
quicker refresh has been enabled by iink
working on a new controller chip called
the T2000 now that's something that you
really wouldn't want to see in your
rearview mirror would you and I'll be
really interested to see as I get to use
this does that make that much of a
difference and does that mean that this
Gallery 3E can be quick enough to not be
distracting when you're using it and so
let me know in the comments what you
want to see on this tablet what testing
do you want me to see going through and
I'll be back with lots more content on
[Music]
it so okay I've been playing about with
it for a little while now and certainly
one thing I've really enjoyed on it so
far has been drawing on it and I just
thought well I'll bring it out here to
this really bright environment in the
natural light get it looking at is very
very best and I can tell you the drawing
on it is an absolute chef's kiss is
brilliant so that video where I actually
draw that will be out just shortly after
this one but I would say you're probably
seeing that flickering there on this
camera over here that flickering is
distracting and really after using it
for a little while it isn't perfect I
don't think that Gallery 3ink technology
is coming into the Android Tablets of
the world anytime soon because side by
side with Kido although yes the colors
do look better here on the gallery 3
there is no getting round that flashing
as it refreshes and that is a real
nuisance I mean the colors here looking
absolutely glorious frankly but when you
make them the actual times when you make
those Strokes that is quite distracting
but I would say if you're someone who's
just mainly going to still be making
black and white notes but you want a
little bit of color highlights color
accents drawing rings around or adding
color to your diagrams I would say yeah
you can go ahead I would also say that
Shader tool is really nicely optimized
the way you get used to quite quickly
laying it down and then it does its
refresh after a few Strokes so it's a
tool it's a new tool so it does have a
place for artists as well but anytime
you have to go into the menus or you
have to scan through a whole bunch of
pages then that flashing is just it's
not very pleasant at all and I do think
that although they've done a good job in
taking whatever technology is in here
it's very similar obviously to a USI
stylist at the very least and making it
perform better because USI stylus lines
are incredibly wobbly and the remarkable
Stylus is just a little bit wobbly
though I do think that the EMR stylus
The Wack on EMR Stylus is still much
better in terms of giving you accurate
and true lines so yeah I'm looking
forward to getting to know it more and
uh bringing you more content on it so I
need your questions and yeah join me
live for the next one
