[Music]
today's Gospel speaks about Jesus
raising the son of a widow at night
this incident has two things to keep in
mind
the first thing is this has a
pre-figuration in the book of Kings the
first book of Kings chapter 17 we see
Elijah meets the Widow at The City Gate
and later on he raises the son of that
Widow from the dead secondly this is one
of the incident where Jesus was not
asked to perform a miracle
keeping these two things in mind let us
proceed with the miracle
let us ask this question first if Jesus
was not asked to perform the miracle
what made him to reach out to the Widow
and raise her dead son the answer is
very simple the answer is incarnation
nobody asked Jesus to come into this
world it was the sheer Mercy compassion
and love of God that made Jesus to come
on human flesh the same compassion Same
Love made Jesus to reach out to the
coffin and touch and make that dead boy
to rise to life
my dear friends there is a reason behind
this compassion wherever there is death
wherever there is a sickness miseries
sorrows and struggles
Jesus knows that the remote reason for
all these things belong to sin and the
devil and the reason for the son of man
to come on this Earth is to destroy the
works of the devil 1 John chapter 3 8
says and Jesus clearly goes out to
destroy the works of the Devil with a
compassionate heart he feels compassion
for the woman because that boy was her
only hope and she was helpless she could
not do anything to bring that boy back
so Jesus felt compassion
so it is not only Jesus's aim to destroy
the works of the devil it is also
motivated by higher Motif that is a
compassion and love for the human beings
and the same compassion and love for the
human beings in the Heart of Jesus in
the life of Jesus in the personality of
Jesus in the same compassion and love
for the people's misery made Jesus to
perform this miracle and we can see the
power of Jesus because of his compassion
and love what messages that we can take
it the first thing when we are in our
utter helplessness it may be a death of
a beloved person sorrow miseries
sicknesses and struggles if they are
with us and if we show our helplessness
to God God will surely come and heal us
secondly if we have to pray for other
people the best attitude that we need to
develop is compassion for their
situation when we develop a compassion
for the situation surely that will be
the powerful intercession that we can
make for others just like sin Monica
prayed for the situation of Saint
Augustine who was dead in sin and was
not alive for God Saint Monica's sorrows
and tears made God to intervene in the
life of Augustine and made him a Saint
Augustine may all of us experience this
loving compassionate intervention of our
God in our helplessness
