Transcripts
welcome to vacuum Wars and to our best
robot vacuum video for Mid
2024 at vacuum Wars we buy all the
products we test and no longer do
sponsored reviews of any kind so that
you can trust our recommendations in
this video I'll go over all the test
results that we've collected on over 100
robot vacuums and explain a little about
their features and specs and finally
reveal our top six overall winners as
well as our mid-level and budget picks
for Mid 2024 so links in the description
to all the winners and let's get started
first the basics all the robot vacuums
we test are very good for basic sweeping
of hard floors and carpets for example
they all have very similar Hardware such
as a main brush roll as well as a side
brush that work together to sweep up
debris on hard floors and carpets and
that hasn't really changed much even
from the very beginning but but in the
past few years robot vacuums have become
much more advanced to the point where
the job of cleaning your floors has
become almost entirely automated with
some models the differences these days
show up in four main areas which I will
focus on in this video the first is
power and performance we test their raw
power like their suction and air flow
which I combined for a single power
score and this year we had a new overall
winner the Dyson 360 viz naav they claim
it has two times the suction of any
other Robot vacuum and we were able to
more or less confirm that in our tests
the new echovox model the t30s and the
new yui S1 as well as the dream x40
rounded out the top five raw power
doesn't always translate to better
performance though so we do a few tests
to try to measure real world performance
like our carpet deep clean test where we
embed sand into medium pile carpet and
run it on max power for a set amount of
time we also do a crevice pickup test
which helps us to measure their power as
well as their seal on hard floors here
shark took the number one and number
four spots with the Dyson 360 viz naav
getting runner up the next area we'll
cover is navigation and obstacle
avoidance in the beginning robot vacuums
just randomly bounced around your house
with no mapping or guidance system and
while there are still some models that
navigate that way most have moved to
using either cameras called vslam or
lasers called lar to map and navigate
around your house in an efficient manner
we test this by running them several
times on a fixed floor plan on each of
their power settings and measuring the
area they covered divided by how long it
took them to complete it as well as how
efficient their battery life was we then
used that data to give them a combined
navigation score here the new dream x40
Ultra was the best followed by the yui
S1 the dream l20 and the rooo Q5 and Q7
made the top five as well one feature
that has really come a long way this
year is obstacle avoidance this is where
in addition to navigation and mapping
sensors they have front mounted cameras
or structured light sensors or lasers or
a combination of them all that can
recognize household objects and avoid
them this makes robot vacuums so much
more useful because they get stuck a lot
less often than they used to in our
obstacle avoidance tests we've only had
three models get a perfect score of 12
so far with another three getting n 11
interestingly half of this leaderboard
are yuffies but dream seems to be doing
something right here as well moving on
to mopping when mops first appeared on
robot vacuums they were basically just
wet microfiber pads that you strapped to
a robot vacuum but these days they often
have either vibrating or spinning mop
pads that apply downward pressure and
electronically feed clean water to the
pad for a much better mopping
performance we test their mopping
systems in a variety of ways for example
we see how good they are at picking up
dried on coffee and dried on grape juice
as well as wet stains with our
glow-in-the-dark tests their mopping
systems have also become much more
automated for example most of the newer
models have pads that will lift up when
they sense carpets so as not to get your
carpets damp also many of them are
starting to have ways for the mops to
extend to clean edges and Corners
automatically the more expensive ones
typically have Auto empty docks where in
addition to automatic Ally emptying
their dust bins they automatically wash
the mop pads dry the mop pads and refill
the mop tanks some of them have sensors
that can tell how dirty the mop water is
so they know to wash the mop pads more
often or do more mopping runs we took
all of this into account for our mopping
score where the dream x40 Ultra got the
most points the final considerations are
all about their features this includes
their app features like virtual barriers
where you can draw lines or boxes on the
map in the app to keep them from going
places you don't want them to go
multi-level mapping fast mapping things
like can you control their Auto empty
bin behaviors do they have carpet boost
or dirt detect where they can boost
suction automatically to save on battery
life do they have lots of options for
customizing room cleaning behaviors
those that have camera obstacle
avoidance also have all kinds of pet
related features like where you can go
find your pets and video call with them
we tracked all of these extra features
and gave them points for a feature score
and here the rooo S8 Max V took the top
spot followed by the dream x40 with the
echovox X2 making an appearance as well
after adding up all the scores I will
now reveal our top six overall winners
as well as our midlevel and budget picks
and I was pretty surprised to see dream
dominating the top six this year with
the x40 ultra taking the top spot though
the roboo S8 maxv was right behind it in
the scoring but I want to draw your
attention to number five and number six
on our list list because those are also
our two midlevel picks and they are
quite a bit cheaper than the others like
$11,000 cheaper than the flagship models
with many of the same features as the
flagships the yui x10 did narrowly beat
out the echovox t30s but they both
should be considered for the mid-level
pick in my opinion our budget pick this
year didn't make the top six overall but
it is way cheaper than the others and it
is the yui l60 you can get the l60
either buy it self which is really cheap
or with an auto empty bin for a little
more but either way I think it's an
excellent value links to all the winners
