we were really excited about it from the

beginning because it's three separate

subjects that come together and have a

lot to say to each other actually when

they're when they're working together

when you take the course essentially

you're doing modules in each of those

individual subjects but then there are

always a few key modules where it all

sort of comes together so for example we

have an interpretation module where you

actually look at the same adaptation of

a text say Romeo and Juliet in the

different art forms and it's a chance to

see what is music actually doing in film

in what ways does or you know a kind of

theater perspective inform a filmic way

of interpreting something I definitely

would recommend music film and drama

because it's a very broad course so for

anyone just finishing up the leaving

series it's very nice to get a better

idea of what you want to do because

you've got the three subjects and you

get like little bits of each to sort of

introduce you to you would study we have

a really unique program structure that

kind of builds from year to year and we

almost think of each year as offering

kind of a different set of possibilities

so where the first year is exploratory

the second year is sort of starting to

dig in deeper and and get to know the

foundations of the subjects that you're

studying and then third year

what we really want you to do is is get

out of UCD so we want you to study

abroad we want you to take an internship

and to actually get out there in the

real world a little bit and then come

back to us in your fourth year where

you'll do a big Capstone project which

can either be academic or creative in

music film and drama there's a few

different ways that you learn so our

actual music film and drama course the

classes are very small it's just the 25

of us and it's lovely but then you'll

have a class where there's like 200

people in for like a music or a film

class which could be daunting at first

but then you also you're sitting with

your friends so it's very different feel

and then you're broken down into even

smaller classes for tutorials with is a

mix of all the different courses on the

module and it's very discussion based

but then there's also like you have to

do your own work outside of classes like

readings and practicing for music and

film or whatever it is which is very

interesting and then you'll bring that

and talk about it in your smaller

classes but I think what's really

important to understand about an Arts

and Humanities degree is that you are

learning critical skills that are so

needed in the workplace the ability to

write to communicate to organize all of

these things and we see this in our

internships are so transferable to the

real world so that's something I'll just

say from the get-go any of your aunts

and uncles telling you doing an arts

degree is useless they don't know what

they're talking about I just like the

vibe

like everyone's walking around it's

really really nice and comfortable and

everyone's so helpful I think you used

to use a great environment for people

who don't

completely know what they want to do

like me everyone's really helpful and

understanding of each other's situations

it's not like people are going around

and giving out to you for not knowing

where you are so it was a very welcoming

place a lot a lot of our students go on

to pursue careers in the creative

sectors themselves we have students

working in the film industry students

working as musicians some students

working for tourism and cultural

Industries here in Dublin we also have

students who do something totally

different students who work in marketing

and advertising so we really think it's

a strong grounding for all kinds of work

after graduation
