talk through what the gto solver says

are perfect three betting numbers for

live cash games let's get started

good morning how are we doing today my

name is james sweeney aka split suit and

today i want to talk about three betting

ranges with you we recently added the

live gto solve to the gto ranges app and

one of the big things that sticks out to

me is how incredibly interesting three

biting ranges are according to the gto

solver and while raw gto data can be a

little bit difficult to parse and tricky

to memorize because there are those

complex mixes in there it's still

extremely telling to figure out what

these frequencies look like according to

the solver what the construction looks

like and kind of what percentage of

bluffs or air hands are in there and how

those air hands tend to get prioritized

so without further ado let's look at a

couple of different spots together these

are going to be five of the ranges i

think are very important to understand

because they kind of start to give you a

rough idea of some of the major pictures

pre-flop such as three betting against

another gun opener let's talk about that

one first all right so if you have the

app up just go to the full ring section

the live rgto and let's rock enroll and

i'm just going to use the basic admin

for this one this is our internal

back-end that we use for storing and

visualizing the solves in advance before

we even put them into the app so let's

rock and roll through this let's start

with a situation where under the gun

open raises and the hijack is going to

be three betting now let's see what the

solver would do in this exact scenario

so one of the first things i like to

focus on when i look at solver output is

what is the overall frequency in a given

situation so when the hijack is three

betting against and under the gun open

rays with no collars in between

there is a three point eight percent

three betting range suggested by the

solver which is kind of interesting it's

probably a little bit higher than you

would see for the average person most

players are going to be a little bit

tighter this probably closer to two to

three percent instead of almost four

and one of the things that i'm looking

for is kind of what is the overall shape

and where are the air hands involved

here so all of the three bets in this

graphic are in red and you notice that

some cells are pure like aces right is a

hundred percent three bet in this

situation

versus a lot of the other included hands

are going to be mixes which could be

mixed between raising and calling or

could be mixed between three betting and

folding so for instance you take

something like king queen suited and

that's going to be at three bet 71.5

percent of the time according to the

solver and if we click call as well we

see the remaining number of that is

going to get made up with calls so

there's pretty much no folding going on

with that and if nothing else that's

important to understand as well and

since we're on the topic of mixes it's

important you have a basic understanding

of what this means essentially a mix

means that a single hand is going to

take differing actions at different

frequencies and sometimes it's a mix

between two actions sometimes it's a mix

between three actions so what that means

is that when a solver suggests a hand

get mixed it means both lines both

suggestions that it's making regardless

of the frequencies whether one's really

really high or sort of high

the solver is saying both of these lines

are going to be equal ev that's exactly

the way that it's thinking about it so

it's not to say oh well [ __ ] kings is

mostly getting three bed here and as

such was just always three bed that's

called a simplification method but it's

not actually what the silver output is

saying it's not saying okay just always

three bet kings because it's above fifty

percent and never three beta's clean off

because it's lower than fifty percent

that's not at all what it's saying

and just for the record some hands

actually get mixed with all three

actions so if you look at something like

pocket eights here you notice that's

getting a three bet eight point five

percent of times getting called twenty

one percent of the time and folded the

other seventy point five percent of the

time so it's not that all mixes are

always gonna be between two actions

sometimes it's actually between three

and then besides just looking at the raw

frequencies i like to look at the way

the solver is adjusting the range get

constructed so if we look at the three

bet range and just get rid of all the

folds you notice that most of the hands

are going to be up in this upper left

hand corner but there's definitely some

trail along along the ace five ace four

h3 suited a little bit of ace eight

suited as well and you notice not a

tremendous amount of pocket pairs are

getting three bet now that's probably

not super surprising to you probably

don't three about pocket sevens against

an under they're gonna open very often

but it's important to understand this

and also notice like pocket jacks is

actually getting three bet forty three

percent of the time

most of you probably don't do that as a

default or pretty much ever against an

undergone open but something like king

jack suited that's getting more highly

prioritized king 10 suited more highly

prioritized i mean that's even higher

than three by didn't say pocket queens

here now of course the big strong pocket

pairs that aren't getting three bet are

getting thrown into the calls because

those are in blue but you notice even

something like pocket tens is still

getting folded a pretty good chunk of

the time pocket nines is getting folded

more than half the time and again not

something that is going to be very

common for most of you watching this and

honestly the most players in the game

overall so i think the big takeaway here

is noticing that the solver is three

betting wider from the hijack than i

think most people do against another gun

open rays and also noticing the hand

selection is not super shocking since

it's prioritizing things that look to be

suited and have blocker value like asex

like ease five suited s4 suited king

queen suited king jack suited and it's

also going to be typically on the

blocker on the ace or the king and

there's not going to be a ton of three

betting even with these strong pocket

pairs since something like queens jacks

and tens are getting three bets some

percentage of the time but nowhere near

all the time although that's not super

shocking for most people but a really

interesting one should be the fact that

he's queen suited is largely going to

get called in this scenario it's

technically a mix with 1.5 percent three

betting and then the rest of it is

getting shoved into the calling range

but i'm not going to go into exactly why

it's doing that in this video i just

think it's important to understand so

again frequency range construction

noticing there is definitely kind of

airy hands in here and there's not a

tremendous amount of calling either in

fact the silver suggesting that the

hijack be three betting more often than

they call in this scenario which is

definitely not true if you're a average

person in a live cash game alright so

that helps us visualizing three betting

in position against an under the gun

open raise now let's try another in

position three bit but this time where

we are on the button facing a hijack

open raise all right so switching up the

open razor to the hijack and the button

being the three better we notice already

right off the bat looking at frequencies

that the silver is suggesting a six

point one percent three bet which is

significantly higher than under four

percent from the hijack so we can notice

similarities between the three betting

range here and the previous three

betting range that we looked at since

they're both mostly up in the upper left

hand corner with some trail down again

amongst these suited asex hands some

things like king 10 k9 suited again

using those kind of suited blocker hands

like asex and king x not super shocking

you know just a little bit wider in

terms of the off suit stuff some ace

jack is getting three bet 34 percent of

the time and you're still noticing very

similar effects in terms of the pocket

pairs right you're getting some three

bets from sevens through queens give or

take queens is going to be a three bet

more than half the time about two-thirds

and then the rest are all going to be

under half until eventually we get down

to pretty much nothing into pocket fives

so there are two big things that i'm

noticing here one is that the solver is

liking more kind of bluffy hands in the

mix more things like king x suited and

asex suited you're getting a wider

selection of those combinations involved

and then the second thing is like the

ace jack suited and the king queen

suited if we notice if we took on the

calls those are 100 pure calls in this

situation not three bets

whereas king queen suited i believe was

like a pure three bet in the previous

one or at least a large three bet in the

previous one and i think the big thing

we have to keep in mind here is when you

are on the hijack facing out of the gun

open there are players behind you that

could squeeze if you decided to call

there and could have position on you

whereas when you call on the button and

someone squeezes you're gonna have

position on them i suspect that's

playing a pretty large role here in the

exact hand selection that the solver is

is looking at and choosing in this spot

but i think it's really important to

understand that the solver is saying

okay everyone is going to play totally

perfect prefab post flop everywhere at

every stage of the game obviously in a

live cash game that's not going to be

the case so you can look at this and say

okay this is a starting point this is

what the solver suggests in a perfect

environment now when i'm looking at my

actual players involved in this hand how

could i possibly break away from this

get into more exploitative craft my

ranges in such a way that exploit the

leaks in the players that are involved

in this hand that is kind of how you can

go from melding the raw solver output

into something that's a little bit more

exploitative and takes advantage of the

situation at hand but either way you

walk out of here knowing what the gto

solver is adjusting here a 6.1 percent

three bet on the button against a hijack

open with no other callers and let's

look at another situation but this time

one where we are going to be out of

position so let's look at a spot where

we three bet from the big blind facing a

cut off open raise all right so updating

the builder we have an open from the

cutoff no calls and a three bet from the

big blind and you notice that the

silver's frequency jumps up yet again

this time to 8.3 percent of hands and

notice that we are out of position in

this hand but not only are we out of

position but we don't have anyone who

can act after us so it's not like we

have to have some hands in our calling

range that can defend against squeezes

that could happen after us that's not a

possibility when we're in the big blind

in this situation

so notice again eight point three

percent three bet getting suggested from

the solver in a big blind versus cut off

open and let's just look at the exact

range construction you notice that

there's a lot more of those pocket pairs

now also when you get a bigger selection

you get full pure three bets with jax

plus full finally on ace king suited and

off suit and the rest of it is not super

shocking notice that it's prioritizing

again kind of those king x suited hands

and also the asex suited hands and it's

also throwing in a little bit more like

queen 10 queen 9 jack 10 jack 9

not 100 of them but definitely a much

larger mix and in a slightly different

construction set than you were seeing in

previous three betting ranges now one

other thing that i like to look at when

i'm looking at solver output especially

from the blinds facing a steal

is what is the overall continuance

frequency so the overall continuance is

your raises plus your calls so

essentially 100 minus folds and you

notice that that's around 19 ish percent

is going to be your continuance and thus

the other 81.5 is going to be folds so

that's actually a pretty large chunk of

folds considering just overall blind

defense nowadays but that's all wrapped

around the fact that the cutoff is going

to play perfectly because that's what

the solver is thinking at this point so

that means when the big blind three bets

the cutoff is gonna play perfectly

against that when the big blind calls

the cutoff is gonna play perfectly post

flop regardless of texture regardless of

check raising all that stuff both

players are going to play perfectly from

here on forward whereas in the real

world

if you are in the big blind and you

three bet is the cutoff going to play

totally perfectly against that are they

going to forbid an appropriate amount if

they call are they going to play well

post flop a perfect amount well of

course not and the more and more they

say the cutoff is folding well the more

and more you can just three bet even

wider here and just take advantage of

the fact that they're folding too often

against your big blind three bet so

that's how you can start going from the

raw silver output again into actual

exploitative ranges that you would use

in real time but at least here you have

a starting point this is the gto solver

suggested approved range and i think

this is totally fair having a nice 8.3

3-bed in this situation nice little

resteal against the cut-off open i think

is totally reasonable i think the range

construction looks really good you have

definitely the strong stuff in there but

you also have enough things again like

ace five suited as eight suited k9

suited and also some other things like

suited connectors to make sure that you

have some strength in your 3-bitting

range and also some strength in your

calling range when you call and go

forward from here all right i'll leave

it to you if you wanted to do more

exploration more specific exploration

when it comes to 3-betting in position

out of position every range against

another range but what i want to do

instead of doing that because this video

then lasts forever is instead jump over

and look at a couple of different

squeeze situations now one of the things

that makes this solve very very unique

is that we allowed the solver to not

just have one color prefab but two

colors brief up which is actually

massive at the end of the day and it's

massive one because nobody else has ever

done this this is literally the world's

first live gto solve that is actually

very very comprehensive and number two

is every single element you add into a

pre-fob solve gets more and more

expensive and more and more

time-consuming so if you add an extra

player so for instance going from a

six-handed solve to a seven-hand solve

that takes much much longer for every

single caller you allow pre-fop that

gets much much longer and also more

expensive so this entire solve because

it's eight-handed we allowed for up to

two callers pre-fop it took

almost three months running 24 7 on a

custom server with two terabytes of ram

this was massive but the overall end

result is a much higher resolution look

at what the gto prefab solve actually

looks like for live cache games so

because we have this very cool situation

where we can have one or two callers

proof up we also then can look at

squeezes and i want to look at two

squeeze situations in the range charts

with you alright so let's look at a

situation where the low jack open raises

the cut off calls and we're looking to

squeeze from the button so you notice

right here that the squeezing range

suggested by the solver is four percent

of hands so it's not shocking that we're

finding the solver making a similar

suggestion as usual three betting the

really really strong stuff right kings

is a pure squeeze aces is a pure squeeze

ace king suited pure squeeze and then a

good chunk of squeezing with things like

pocket queens and ace queen off and bass

king off and king queen suited as well

but beyond that you're looking at things

like some asex suited ace five suit is

in there ace four suited in there king

six suited and there again you notice

the silver likes these kind of hands

that have

the blocker value plus the suited value

and then beyond that getting into things

like king 10 suited king jack suited

which kind of fits that same mix as well

you notice that there's a little bit of

selection of the middle pack of pairs

right sevens is getting three bet three

percent of the time nine's eight percent

tens nine point five percent but zero

jacks being included here those are

gonna get shoved into that calling range

which is kind of interesting because it

protects itself when the button decides

to call here and gets squeezed in any

capacity having things like some strong

stuff can be very very good which is why

you notice some ace king offsuit is

getting shoved into the calling range

pocket jacks is the same little bit of

pocket queens just the same but the

overall squeezing shape here not too too

shocking but again notice the exact kind

of way the sulfur is suggesting to quote

throw in air and i don't like to say air

just because it's it's a little vague

but you're just noticing that it's

prioritizing the king x suited asex

suited kind of stuff a little bit of

pocket pairs and obviously these aren't

going to be like pure pure like

the way that people would default think

about value 3 bets but this is the

overall construction not a tremendous

amount of squeezing but a decent chunk

and honestly much wider than most people

are going to squeeze in this scenario in

real time all right since this is an in

position squeeze let's also look at it

out of position squeeze together we keep

things fairly similar or say the low

jack open raises but this time the

button is going to call and we are going

to be in the small blind so you notice

again the three betting range is pretty

tight four point six percent of hand so

a little bit wider than it was in the

previous setup but this is still very

very important and also notice pretty

much everything is shoved up in that

upper left hand corner there's a little

bit of ace five suited king six suited

but largely we're up here notice more

inclusion of ace queen than the previous

one more inclusion of things like king

queen suited now also that's a pure

squeeze and a little bit of king queen

off at 17 percent and also jax is now

here hi welcome back back at jax and

also a little bit of tens nines eights

but again very minimal on those

inclusions and no pocket sevens this

time like there was in the previous one

now this one i find interesting for a

couple different reasons first is that i

think a lot of players will not squeeze

anywhere near 4.6 of the time here i

think they're probably closer to like

two and a half to three percent of hands

i think they understand everybody in

like queens plus and the ace king a

decent chunk of the time but i don't

think most players are default three

betting ace queens or king queen suited

every single time or even king jack

suited i think a lot of those kind of

combos get shoved into their calling

range but if you pay attention

interesting fact number two here is that

the solver really does not like calling

very much here right about one percent

of the time is going to be calls all of

those are in blue and notice it's not

like pure pockets and pure pocket sixes

or even pure ace jack suited

which means that the solver finds the ev

between calling with ace jack suited and

folding ace jack suited here to be equal

that's kind of fascinating in my opinion

i don't know about you but i find that

to be extremely interesting it really

goes to show you the positional

disadvantage playing in a perfect

environment and while that means that if

the small member to call here that their

opponents are going to play perfectly it

also means the small blind is going to

play perfectly and even in that

environment this the solver still does

not like calling here or i think a lot

of players are going to call here with

like five to ten maybe even more

percentage of hands

that is not at all lining up at the

solver so while memorizing these exact

ranges can be very very complicated if

not impossible for most people and again

the goal with this app is not to use it

in real time please only use this as a

study tool do not bring it up at the

table do not do anything that involves

using this in real time at all this is

strictly a study tool but when you're

studying it yes it's going to be

difficult to memorize these things and

recall them perfectly at the table

however the more you work with them the

more you're going to start to understand

okay what are those frequencies looking

like and also what is the overall range

construction looking like noticing how

the sulfur is suggesting choosing those

bluffs is going to be extremely

extremely valuable and as you poke

through the app and go through every

single range or just explore your own

hands again studying them off table you

can really start to find these patterns

quite quickly and really see why it

likes the hands that it chooses and

again the overall assumption underlying

all of those things so that's gonna wrap
