Outlines

Transcripts
death is around every page in the
Transformers comic published by skybound
entertainment I've spoken about this
aspect of the story at length in other
videos but we need to refocus on a
particular death for today's topic issue
number one of the series showed us that
writer Daniel Warren Johnson wasn't
afraid to kill off beloved characters
like bumblebee but for me the real shock
came at the end of the issue when we see
Starscream squish an innocent human into
pulp at first I was disgusted and then I
realized that Johnson was showing me the
power that the Transformers had on Earth
but eventually I was heartbroken when it
was revealed that this seemingly lesser
important character was in fact Carly's
father we had no time to really know him
only seeing a glimpse of his Humanity
once or twice and yet you can feel the
guttural reaction when Cari is told that
her father
has been killed Carly's reaction to the
death of her father is that of shock At
first she struggles to even comprehend
what has and what is happening around
her it takes time for the grief to
settle in to her heart she is a strong
noons badass character as we've been
shown but nothing can protect her from
the Whirlwind of emotions that she faces
no one had prepared her for this moment
because no one should have we don't
don't know exactly the details of
Carly's full family such as her mom's
status in her life but given the lack of
evidence of her I think for now it's
safe to say that she's not in the
picture Carly is alone now Spike will
soon join her in this aspect after his
father sacrifices his own life to save
Optimus Prime but even then Carly is
still isolated in her grief she is for a
brief time comforted by cliff jumper who
has faced a similar tra atic event their
relationship grows only to be crushed by
Cliff Jumper's decision not to kill
Starscream I've covered this event and
its implications in another video if
you'd like a more in-depth view so
Carly's response to all of this is Rage
she becomes hellbent on Revenge every
moment we see her she is either trying
to fight or preparing to face battle her
anger extends past starcream though as
she declares a personal war on all
Decepticons for their tyranny even the
helpless albeit annoying skywarp who has
been integrated into teletran 1 her rage
is dangerous and it leads to her hurting
others later on RC tries to console
Carly after these events but she is
still blinded by her need for Revenge
Cari is struggling not only with the
loss of her father but the fact that she
is powerless against the Decepticons she
yells at Optimus asking him if she's
just supposed to wait around to be
squished like her father was she is
losing faith in the autobots and trying
to take matters into her own hands her
anger is fueled by her fear of not being
able to survive the new status quo and
even more so her fear that she might not
be able to avenge her father's death RCC
and Carly end up bonding over the need
to be Warriors while RC is a younger
Warrior she has much more control over
herself than Carly but RC brings her own
baggage to the table in Issue 11 Carly
begins to see the two sides of war in
the rift between RC and Alita 1 RC has
been Carly's closest friend after her
falling out with cliff jumper she looks
up to RC and strives to be like her to
be like an iron Warrior but Alita 1
brings these ideas into conflict RC is
branded a coward for leaving Cybertron
behind and lashes out at what has been
done to her Mentor Ultra Magnus RC has
suddenly switched sides she no longer is
the composed honorable Warrior that will
do what must be done now she is a
vengeful agent of violence hellbent on
Revenge it was becoming clear to Cari
that her need for Revenge was slowly
corroding her own being RC had helped
her to see this but now now Everything
Has Changed these three women are all
struggling with the the same nightmare
the casualties of War Cari has lost her
father Arc her mentor and Alita her
entire home alita's response to this
loss is to become even more hardened in
life and leave behind any weaknesses
RC's struggle to keep her composure at
the sight of ultr magnus' body leads her
to arm up and declare war on those
animals as she names them but Carly as
ready as ever to fight is unsure of
what's going on her goal remains
unchanged to save her friend and fight
back against her father's murderer but
in a Twist she learns her final lesson
from RC albeit not in the way she
anticipated revenge and Justice are not
the same one is fueled by rage and the
other is fueled by the need to set
things right both may have the same
outcome on the recipient but the
deliverer of such actions will be
changed forever depending on on the path
that they choose rage is a virus and it
is consuming everyone around Carly it is
corroding the hearts and minds of the
heroes that she wants to look up to it's
taking everything away from her
everything except the one friend who
cared about her the
[Music]
most hey everybody this video was
definitely a struggle to write I had
originally written a script strictly
just for Carly just a video 100% about
Carly and I actually really enjoyed the
script but I didn't I just I didn't feel
like it quite fit given now what we've
learned throughout the series I probably
wrote it back when issue oh maybe Issue
7 had just released and so a lot has
happened not just with Carly but with RC
and then the introduction of Alita and
so I I kind of felt that that script
needed to be either completely tossed
out or reworked and so I I put a poll up
on the channel and asked about hey who
would you like to hear about Alita RC or
Carly or all three in one video and I
kind of thought well people are probably
aren't going to choose all three in one
video that's kind of a lot and sure
enough that's what you guys chose but
that's okay because I think that these
three female characters have a lot in
common you know each of them have gone
through these horrible aspects of war
and they've lost somebody obviously very
close to them I think Alita probably
Strays the furthest from this but I do
think that the three of them are kind of
interconnected in this story there was a
comment on that Community post that
perhaps alita's story arc really hasn't
fully developed yet and I do agree
that's why this video is not just on her
but I do think that the comparisons
between Carly and RC can be made but
they can't be made without talking about
Alita as well you know Carly is this
young character who has not been in war
who has not experienced this and yet
she's ready to dive in she's ready to
attack she's full of Rage she's ready to
kill at a moment's notice and then you
have RC who has been through that phase
in her life who has been through war and
has realized hey there's a lot more to
war than just killing the bad guy you
know than just going out guns of Blazing
and and you have to be as as the comic
describes it an iron Warrior and so RC
kind of becomes this Mentor figure to
Carly both figuratively and literally in
in the comic and she's this this kind of
put up on this pedestal to be hey this
is what you should be like Carly this is
the type of warrior that you should be
you know calm collected yes there's
going to be fighting you're going to
need to fight the enemy but you need to
you need to be in control of your
emotions and then we get Alita Alita
shows up and she is also a very strong
Warrior but she's kind of almost she's
taken this in a different way I wouldn't
technically call her Brash or
inexperienced but she is so hardened by
War and she is so vengeful and so r
fueled by everything that's happened to
her people and to her planet and and so
many other aspects that she just kind of
comes in and messes everything up and so
it's really interesting to to watch as
Carly looks up to RC as hey you know
maybe this maybe this person is right
maybe rage should not be the thing that
fuels me and drives me in battle and
then Alita comes in and kind of messes
that up and then we see that when push
comes to shove RC almost kind of reverts
back into this way of well they're
animals I'm just going to slaughter them
and all of a sudden Carly is now the
maybe not the most mature character
amongst these three women but she's the
one that has this idea of hey maybe
maybe rage is not the answer rage is a
powerful tool obviously you know and
there's a lot more discussion that could
be had on Revenge versus justice but I
do think that those questions are
brought up in this that Carly has kind
of gone from this just blinded by
Revenge character to now almost kind of
the voice of reason but I'm definitely
looking forward to all of those aspects
as the comic continues let me know what
you guys think down in the comment
section below and as always thanks for
watching and I'll see you guys on the
next one
