Transcripts

play00:02

Hello friends!

play00:03

Today, I'd like to make a video on a personal topic

play00:06

Not personal in the sense that you are expecting

play00:08

I'm talking about a "personal" video in the sense of my career

play00:11

A question that I've been asked umpteen times by you

play00:14

and have requested me many times to make a video on this topic

play00:18

And that topic is- How to make a video?

play00:20

How does one become a Youtuber?

play00:21

How to earn money from Youtube?

play00:23

And how do I make these videos? What is the truth behind them?

play00:28

Today, I'd like to tell you all about it

play00:30

Shall we begin?

play00:31

First of all, this background should be removed because in reality, the background looks like this

play00:35

A green sheet hangs here

play00:38

Before this, I used to make use of a green screen

play00:42

Let me take you on a tour of my equipment

play00:45

This is my studio set up these days

play00:48

There are two lights hanging, one green sheet that hands as well. And there's a third light down there

play00:52

And this is the camera

play00:54

I've even bought a teleprompter now

play00:56

You could ask me why I bought that

play00:57

The Netflix series that I have been filming- Decode with Dhruv Rathee- You can check it out if you haven't

play01:03

For this series, I was told by Netflix that the setup of my old studio was not sufficient and that the lighting wasn't great

play01:09

So, they told me to upgrade my setup so that they could make videos in collaboration with me

play01:13

Earlier, I used to make use of this

play01:15

You might recall, there used to be a table here

play01:17

and I used to sit and make videos

play01:19

If you compare with the videos today, the lighting in those videos were not that great

play01:21

But the set up is extremely good now, as you can see, but,

play01:25

you don't need such a huge and upgraded setup to start your Youtube career

play01:30

I started mine with merely a mobile phone

play01:34

In this video, I will tell you all that you can achieve on Youtube, with a mobile phone and without spending any money

play01:41

This awesome teleprompter that I have bought is actually Made In India

play01:45

Most of the videos that I have watched on how to start a Youtube channel- talk about technical things

play01:49

For instance, how to make an account on Google etc etc. But,

play01:53

But I'd like to tell you in detail that if you really want to make YouTube videos and want to pursue it as a career,

play02:00

then how can you do that?

play02:02

Let us look at things point by point

play02:04

The first thing is- recording (how to film yourself)

play02:08

Pick up your phone and open the selfie camera

play02:10

That is how easy it is to make videos

play02:12

But it is better to make use of the back camera of your phones, because in most of the phones,

play02:17

the back cameras are of a higher resolution as compared to front cameras

play02:20

If you do not have studio lights, then you can make use of the natural lights- the sunlight- to make videos

play02:25

Notice where the sunlight is coming from, right now

play02:27

It is coming from this side and the video doesn't look good

play02:29

If I stand this way, then the light comes from behind and this doesn't look great either

play02:32

It looks the best when the sunlight comes from the front

play02:35

Look at how my face is glowing!

play02:37

because the sunlight is coming from the front and hitting my face directly

play02:40

So, stand infront of the window and make videos for the best lighting

play02:44

It is very important for a YouTuber to look into the camera and talk

play02:47

This is a skill that you should have and this is not something that I knew right from my childhood

play02:53

This is not my natural talent

play02:54

I learnt this with trial and error over time and it requires some practice

play02:59

because it is not that easy to talk to objects

play03:02

There is no one in the room and I'm talking as if I am speaking to a human

play03:06

To practice, initially I adopted the idea of taking any object- say this airpod-

play03:13

I will keep this here and imagine it to be a person

play03:16

and just like you tell stories and talk to a person,

play03:21

I will speak to these airpods the same way

play03:23

Tell these airpods all that you did today

play03:26

This is how you can practice talking in front of the camera

play03:31

because the camera is an object too

play03:33

and what you need to do basically is tell stories to the object

play03:35

Let us talk about sound now

play03:36

This microphone that I have bought is worth 5-6 thousand rupees

play03:40

I make my spotify podcasts with this microphone, which is even more professional

play03:45

But honestly speaking, if the environmental conditions are conducive in a room, then you will not need to buy a microphone

play03:51

The microphone of the camera would be sufficient

play03:53

If the voice in your room does not echo

play03:57

The voice in my room echoes a lot

play03:59

since there are not a lot of things here and the room is relatively empty

play04:02

The more things you have in the room, the less it will echo

play04:04

And so I have placed these cushions here- it reduces the echo

play04:07

and have bought these sheets to reduce the echo too

play04:11

You can make use of sheets and towels- all of them reduce echoes

play04:16

The more your room is filled, the lesser you would need to buy a microphone

play04:21

and the sound quality would improve proportionately

play04:23

This is the heavy weight camera that I am making use of these days

play04:26

But honestly speaking, it is only as effective as an iPhone if the lighting conditions are sufficient

play04:32

So, you can make use of whatever phones you have to make videos

play04:37

These days, almost all phones have HD recording

play04:40

But more important that these technical things is- before making any video,

play04:45

you need to have a rough script

play04:47

on what you are going to say in the video. Have you researched on it?

play04:50

There are some exceptions to this though- for example, you do not need a script while vlogging

play04:55

But most of the videos that are made on Youtube, require a script

play05:01

including comedy videos

play05:02

Bhuvan Bam works on the scripts of his videos for weeks!

play05:07

Almost all the topics require scripting

play05:10

My scripts look somewhat like this- the script is of 10-12 pages. There are bullet points and paragraphs

play05:17

There are sources beneath every sub topic

play05:20

and you can see that everything is not written line by line

play05:22

Things are explained here. I read them, understand them and then make you understand them

play05:28

and this is why it takes me 3-4 hours to make a 10 minute video

play05:32

because I keep repeating the lines until I am satisfied that I have delivered them perfectly

play05:38

and that the lines convey exactly what I want to say in a summarized manner

play05:44

And this is why I's like to say that when you make your own Youtube videos,

play05:48

there is no reason to get flustered if you stumble or say something wrong

play05:53

You can take a re take

play05:54

Let the camera run- That is what I do. The recording goes on and I keep on speaking

play05:59

until I am satisfied that I delivered the lines perfectly

play06:01

After that, I cut out that part that I don't want and keep the part that I am satisfied with during editing

play06:08

Editing is one of the most important aspects for a Youtuber

play06:12

If the editing is good, the video will do great

play06:14

and if the editing is sub par, then even a good content can perform not so well

play06:19

You will get access to several free video editing apps on App store and Google Play store

play06:23

But one of the best apps for free video editing, according to me is Vita App

play06:28

Let me give you a few editing tips, using this app

play06:31

It is very simple to use. For example, let me take this Switzerland clip

play06:35

First, choose the clip

play06:36

Here is the editing option. Now, for the part I want to remove, I press edit

play06:41

split it

play06:42

and I can cut this part out very easily

play06:46

A music would be nice for his clip. So, I'd add some music

play06:49

Let's see how it looks (and sounds)

play06:53

I'll use this one

play06:54

If I want the beat to overlap, I can move the sound clip around and place it

play07:00

These sound waves tell you that the music here is changing slightly

play07:10

Say I want to add the fire emoji

play07:12

You can resize it and decide where to place it in the video

play07:15

You can simply place this fire emoji at the desired place. The editing is as easy as that

play07:19

and you can change the duration for which the fire emoji appears from here

play07:22

This is how memes, photos and any other icon can be added

play07:26

If I want to add any text , write something

play07:29

and I can join many clips together in this app

play07:33

I can add music or effects

play07:36

Let me give you an example

play07:37

A clip that I have shot for this video itself

play07:44

"And editing is one of the most important... "

play07:45

You'll notice that I started to speak a little late, so there is no need for the part at the beginning

play07:49

I normally cut out such parts

play07:51

You can see that I reduce this part and so the video starts from here

play07:55

I extend the music to this clip as well

play07:59

You can even add transitions in between to make the video look nicer

play08:03

For this, click on the transition icon

play08:05

and choose the kind of transition you want- the dissolve effect... Since, I like the black screen, I choose that one

play08:11

and behold- there is a transition in the video

play08:13

If you feel that the video is slightly slow, you can increase its speed

play08:18

And now, the video is a little sped up

play08:24

You might have noticed that I zoom in on my videos in my vlogs sometimes

play08:27

This is very easy to do as well. You can simply select the effects option- and there is the zoom in effect

play08:30

I really like this effect

play08:37

You can change the ratio here- a 16:9 ratio is used for shooting videos for Youtube

play08:42

But for Instagram, the ratio is 1:1

play08:45

You can easily change this on this app

play08:47

This is something that is difficult to do in most video editing apps

play08:51

Here, the watermark of the app is displayed. In most of the free video editing apps, there will be a water mark but,

play08:57

this watermark can be removed in this app

play09:00

Toggle the watermark switch off in the settings

play09:04

As for the resolution, the highest one is the best . 1080p is full HD

play09:08

and 720p is HD

play09:10

There are very few free video editing apps which have no useless ads and do not force insert their water marks either

play09:16

I found this to be one of the best apps for free video editing

play09:19

I will provide its link in the description below

play09:22

If you want to use it, you can check it out

play09:25

Editing is something that you will learn only through practice

play09:27

Experiment with it- where you should put some music and where you should cut the video

play09:31

and where the video should be sped up

play09:33

where effects should be added- go with your feelings

play09:35

Think from a third person's perspective and evaluate how fun it is to see the video

play09:39

and then decide how you should edit

play09:43

Lighting, filming, sound, video editing- I've covered all of them

play09:47

But the most important thing for a Youtuber remains- his content

play09:51

What type of content would you want to make if you wish to become a Youtuber?

play09:55

How will you decide what type of videos you should make and how will you excel in that?

play10:01

The most important thing in content is uniqueness

play10:04

How unique is your content?

play10:06

What most of the people do is look at a successful Youtuber like Technical Guruji

play10:11

and start making their own accounts names- Technical Rakesh, Technical Chintu, Technical Pintu

play10:16

But these channels will never become successful

play10:18

because why would people want to watch you if you are making a copycat channel?

play10:23

The people would obviously prefer to watch Technical Guruji because he is original

play10:27

He (as a channel is) larger than you and you are merely making his copy

play10:30

so why would people prefer to watch you?

play10:33

There should be some uniqueness in your content

play10:35

By uniqueness, I do not mean that you will have to think of an entirely new thing

play10:40

By uniqueness, I mean something fresh and different in your content

play10:43

I am not saying that since Mumbaikar Nikhil and Flying Beast make vlogs, I cannot make them

play10:48

My vlogging channel has some unique things in different aspects

play10:53

Similarly, there are some unique things in the vlogs Mumbaikar Nikhil- which are no there in mine

play10:57

You can distinctly see how these contents are uniquely different on their own

play11:01

Had I copied that style exactly, I would not have been successful

play11:06

Similarly, when you make content, you will have to see what aspect can you be unique in

play11:11

And to make any type of unique content, you either should have the talent for that or you would need to work hard

play11:16

but a combination of both works the best

play11:19

Take my example- I feel that I am naturally talented in researching and analyzing

play11:26

and in videography and filmography

play11:29

But public speaking was something I was not good at, naturally

play11:33

How to speak in front of a camera

play11:35

This is something I have learnt through hardwork and repeated practice

play11:39

So a combination of all- public speaking, analysing, researching and videography

play11:45

when used together to make a video makes a very good one because it employs all these great skills

play11:51

So, you too identify some skill sets that you are naturally good at

play11:55

and the ones that you want to become good at

play11:57

Practice and make yourself even better

play11:59

and then, you can create unique content combining all these different skill sets

play12:06

And finally, when you release your videos,

play12:10

consistency is very important for becoming a Youtuber

play12:12

Keep releasing your videos regularly and with every video,

play12:16

try improving on little things

play12:18

As and when you release videos, you would do more and more practice,

play12:21

you would become better with practice

play12:23

Do not think you will become perfect right with the first video

play12:26

Overall, I think I have covered all the aspects that you should know as a beginner to become a Youtuber

play12:32

and to start your Youtube career

play12:34

I hope you would have found this video to be informative. Share it

play12:38

We will meet again in the next video

play12:42

Or maybe the next vlog!

play12:47

I would like to thank the Vita App for sponsoring this video
