Transcripts
welcome everybody Welcome to graphql
comp
I'm super happy to be here this is this
is so exciting we've spent a lot of time
putting this together there's a ton of
people watching live there's a lot of
you here in person I'm really excited
that you're all here today
um for those of you I haven't gotten a
chance to meet I'll do a quick
introduction my name is Lee Byron I got
a day job my day job is to work at a
company called Watershed where I'm an
engineering lead I support a team who's
building a climate platform which is a
suite of tools to help large companies
understand and manage their climate
impact in addition to that and relevant
to this crowd here today I was one of
the co-creators of graphql helped open
source it and founded and direct the
graphiel foundation which is the host of
this event
thank you all for coming this is great
um we have a lot of awesome stuff to get
to today
it's going to be great
and I really want to introduce graphql
conf as a thing because this is kind of
our inaugural event as being a solo
thing we've done meetups we've attached
to other events we've done many things
that the graphql foundation has
sponsored to help bring the community
together but this is the first time that
we've had our own Standalone event and
I'm really really pleased with how it's
coming together a huge thank you to
everyone who's helped organize this
including the LF events team our
graphical Foundation board members
particularly a handful of folks on a
committee that was putting this together
if you like this event let us know if
you've got feedback for how to do it
better next time let us know that too
we're going to keep doing this we're
going to keep getting better at it this
is the event to have a broad tent
this is the vendor-wide ecosystem-wide
place to talk about all things graphql
from Hobby projects
to interesting experimental bleeding
edge crazy stuff to stable Enterprise
ready tools and everything in between
so
all of you folks are building those
tools using those tools you are the
community that's making this whole thing
work thank you for being here
this is really the value of us getting
to come together to talk about all of
this is all of you getting to meet each
other and learn from those of you who
are actually making this stuff work and
having it interconnect and create
something larger than some of its parts
thank you
we've got so much awesome stuff to get
to over the next couple of days but I'm
curious how many folks here were here
yesterday for the Workshops the
unconference and the Meetup event
oh yeah okay at least half probably more
than half fantastic I thought that was
just an amazing way to kick things off
Community oriented at its hub making
sure that there is ample time for
everyone to come together and meet each
other it's what this event is all about
but we've got lots and lots of stuff to
get to today and tomorrow as well
today's theme is much more of the Here
and Now what is getting built today
tomorrow's theme is looking ahead into
the future
roughly some boundaries at the seams but
I really hope that you all enjoy it
okay now
before we get into things
I want to make sure that we cover a
couple of house housekeeping items
uh the first of which is thanking our
sponsors
I'm gonna grab my
slide procurement device okay thank you
to our sponsors this event absolutely
would not have happened if it weren't
for the generous contributions for these
sponsors making sure that we have the
space that we have food that we have a
party that we have all our swag that we
can all come together and do this so in
particular thank you too the diamond
crew has Sarah Postman and the guild our
Platinum members High graph solo and the
rest of our sponsors intego steps in the
graph graphic based neo4j stellate
Wonder graph you're going to look at
this list and be like that's a lot of
faces and they're all in the room right
behind this wall which later will break
down and make sure that everyone's got a
chance to mingle please go talk to those
folks say thanks to those folks and meet
those folks I mentioned how we're
building all these tools and coming
together to create this ecosystem a
decent chunk of those tools are getting
built by these various companies so you
should definitely go meet the people
responsible for putting those together
it's an awesome opportunity for us to
get to meet each other so thank you
thank you thank you for our sponsors for
not just contributing to make sure that
we could do this but helping plan and
contribute the resources and the tools
and the interesting things to talk about
that have made all this possible
also tonight is when we will come back
together
talk about everything so there's lots
and lots of talks to get to I hope you
learn a lot and then after you learn a
lot I hope you get to talk about it and
have a lot of fun so at 5 30 tonight
we're gonna have a little booth crawl
attendee party all in this combined
space with the space next door it's
going to be a blast we're going to have
a raffle there's some pretty legit
prizes in that raffle so don't miss that
some fun games there's going to be
snacks drinks it's going to be a great
time it's also the place where you'll be
able to pick up some swag t-shirts make
sure you don't leave here with some cool
graphql related stuff so I definitely
hope to see you there
okay
there's a lot happening we have this
main stage which is the place where
we'll be throughout the morning then we
have three separate talk tracks through
the rest of the day and into the
afternoon and the evening
if you're curious about what's getting
talked about in all of those tracks scan
this little QR code see what it looks
like make sure that you don't miss the
things that you want to see
also very important is to make sure that
everyone is aware of our code of conduct
this is Code of Conduct that applies to
the event here to all of our digital
spaces as well if you've happened to
encounter this in the past it'll look
very familiar to you but please
familiarize yourself with this code of
conduct the graphql community is a very
welcoming Community we very much value
inclusion and belonging making sure
everyone here feels safe for whatever
reason something comes up that makes you
concerned
come see me oops sorry come see me come
see one of the event staff we'll be very
happy to hear about it and help you out
another thing that's very exciting is
that we're launching a formal Meetup
program
This is Our Hope of creating events like
this one on a slightly smaller scale
local to specific communities and doing
as much as we can to empower this so
this is interesting to you because
either you would love to attend one of
these speak at one of these organize one
of these please let us know we would
love to help bring you together in
wherever you call home
to take a pic of this slide scan that QR
code bring it back with you
