Transcripts
this is how my beard looked 3 months ago
and this is how it looks now pretty
crazy right I know it's not every day
you see an Asian with a beard so
naturally the question I've been asked
the most often is how did you grow your
beard well let me tell you straight away
implants just kidding but I've actually
seen some people speculating that I did
or thinking I did minoxidil perhaps so
let me clear it up straight away I do
not have implants and have never done
minoxidil but hey if I ever did lose the
hair on my head I would totally do hair
implants I think there's no shame in
that but thankfully I've inherited some
pretty crazy hair growth genetics
especially in the beard Department to be
honest with you there is no secret hack
that will make you magically grow a
beard permanently if you don't have the
genetics for it unless you do minoxidil
of course which I'll talk about later in
the video but for those of you who do
have facial hair there are definitely
some tips and tricks to help you grow a
majestic beard so without further Ado
here's how to grow and maintain a beard
properly
tip one don't shave in hopes of your
hair growing thicker because shaving
your hair whether on your face or
anywhere else on your body does not
cause it to grow back thicker or Fuller
that is a myth you're better off just
letting it be and your beard should
naturally become denser over time and if
you don't have much facial hair going on
yet you're probably better off going
clean shaven entirely or opting for a
shorter beard style there are many beard
styles that can still work if your
facial hair is a bit patchy or not as
dense tip number two be patient if
you've ever tried growing your hair long
you'll know about what we call the
awkward stage well the same thing
happens when growing your beard there
will be an awkward stage where your
beard is longer than a 3-day stubble but
hasn't reached the stage of the proper
full beard yet where it's going to look
a bit unkempt a bit untidy but that's
okay persevere through the awkward stage
and you should get to a decent length
within a few weeks hopefully and if you
can't grow a nice full beard yet don't
despair beard growth evolves over time
the beard you can grow now won't be the
same 5 years from now or 10 years from
now before I could only grow a mustache
and then the cheeks and Chin area
started coming in and for several years
I had a partially disconnected beard
where the cheeks wouldn't fully meet the
mustache like it does now so be patient
and give your beard time to
evolve tip number three use beard oil
many people think that beard oil is for
your beard and understandably so it's in
the name but it's actually just as much
for your skin underneath as it is for
your beard you see when growing a beard
it's possible for your skin to get a
little itchy this happens because the
skin underneath the facial hair can have
a hard time producing enough oil so it
dries your skin out which is why you
want to use that beard oil to bring some
of the moisture back the beard oil will
provide that deep moisture to nourish
and maintain your skin and Beard's
Health just put a few drops onto your
fingers rub your hands together and
massage the oil into your skin you can
do it on a daily basis or whenever you
feel your skin or beard is a bit dry I
personally use this Argan beard beard
oil that I bought directly from my
barber in
London tip number four after 1 to 3
months of beard growth start using beard
balm once your beard starts getting
longer that's when you want to consider
using a beard balm although this can be
used in conjunction with the beard oil
it actually serves a different purpose
whereas the oil's primary goal is to
moisturize the skin and hair the bomb is
there to condition soften and most of
all style a longer beard as your beard
gets longer it's bound to get a little
untidy even myself as a 3/4 Asian man my
hair is straight as an arrow but past a
certain length my beard just starts
having a mind of its own the hair starts
getting unruly and wants to go in all
sort of directions so just like you
would style your hair you need something
to style your beard and that's where the
beard bomb comes in it's great to tame
those unruly hairs and give your beard a
better shape I use this one from Bulldog
to be completely honest with you I
didn't do a huge amount of research into
which brand is the best for Beard bombs
I just really needed one quickly because
my beard was getting out of hand and I
had seen this brand around a fair bit
before it was on Amazon Prime delivery
so I just pulled the trigger on this one
and frankly it's been doing me good so
far and as usual I'll put a link to all
of the products I use in the description
to use beard balm put a psize amount
into your palm rub your hands together
and work the product into your beard
shaping your beard with your hands you
can also use a comb or brush for both
the beard balm and the beard oil to
spread the product through your beard
better you kind of just shape it how you
want it to look look and what I like
with the balm in contrast to the oil is
that it makes my beard feel a bit
thicker and you got to love some volume
in the beard tip number five don't
forget to wash your beard this should
technically be before the previous two
steps in your daily routine since you
want to be using the oil and the balm
after washing but the main point is wash
your beard just like your hair on your
head needs to be cleaned so does your
facial hair some people say you can
simply use your shampoo on your beard
and others will say that regular shampoo
is a little too harsh for your beard I
don't know which Camp is right but
personally I just use this dedicated
beard wash that I found on Amazon it
doesn't leave my skin feeling dry and it
smells good so it does the job for me I
usually wash my beard at the same time
as I wash my face so I never forget
stack two good habits together that's a
great tip actually to stick to new
habits learned that from the atomic
habits book but anyways speaking about
washing your face if you are looking to
get started with your skincare or maybe
you've been wanting to try new products

beard tip number six maybe use Minoxidil
this is for people who have a patchier
beard or very little facial hair that
want to use alternative products to try
and promote hair growth first of all
what is minoxidil minoxidil is a
medication used for the treatment of
high blood pressure and pattern hair
loss it is an anti-hypertensive an aaso
dilator that's available as a generic
medication by prescription in oral
tablet form and over the counter as a
topical liquid or F it's a very popular
solution that many people have used to
successfully stimulate hair growth stop
hair loss or even in some cases reverse
hereditary hair loss now I've never used
minoxidil myself but my issue with it is
that most of the research seems to point
towards the fact that the hair growth is
not permanent it seems to be the case
that the new hair is lost within a few
months after the drug is stopped so you
would technically need to take minoxidil
for the rest of your life to maintain
the new hair growth now with that being
said I have also seen anecdotal
experiences of people saying that they
use Minoxidil for Beard growth stopped
and retained most of the new hair those
anecdotes are based on the theory that
minoxidil could potentially turn vellis
hair which is the smaller finer peach
fuzz hair into terminal hair which is
the coarse thick hair that you want I
don't know if that's true and I am
definitely not the utmost expert on the
subject so I would highly recommend that
you do your own research and come to
your own conclusions before you consider
taking minoxidil or any other medication
tip number seven outline and trim your
beard you can't expect your beard to
just automatically look great once it
grows out with no maintenance whatsoever
you need to shape it trim it care for it
like you would your hair and the main
thing you have to learn is how to
outline it properly for the cheeks you
don't want it to drop too low I would
recommend lining it up as high as you
can naturally grow your hair so if you
have less bulk on your cheeks I would
say to take it to where the bulk of your
beard is and just remove the excess hair
above where the bulk of your beard is
IDE if you do grow hair high enough I
think having the line go from your
Sideburn to the corner of your mustache
is when it looks best and if your hair
grows even beyond that line like mine
does I would suggest dropping it down to
where the line goes from your Sideburn
to your mustache as for your neckline
here's the general guideline that I use
when I'm facing front I don't want any
hair to be showing beneath my beard so
if I'm looking directly at you I would
create this imaginary horizontal line
grazing the bottom of my beard and shave
everything underneath that line
naturally since your neck is curved the
line would be slightly curved as well to
stay on the safer side and avoid any
accidents where you would dig into your
beard I would recommend starting the
line lower and bringing it up gradually
don't go too high right off the gate or
you'll risk accidentally shaving off too
much then there's what you call the back
line which is the hair coming off the
back of your Sideburn I think it looks
best to have it quite natural so as far
back as it natural goes but then any
excess hair that grow back onto your
neck those are the ones you want to trim
off now let's talk about trimming your
beard even while growing my beard I
would still tidy it up regularly as it
grew the reason for that is that it
actually provides a cleaner result while
you're growing your beard and it
minimizes the awkward phase I'm not
saying to shorten your beard by any
means that would defeat the purpose of
growing it but what I've been doing is
since I go to the barber regularly
anyways to maintain my buzz cut I just
ask him to tidy up the beard as well
every 3 to 4 weeks sometimes as frequent
as 2 weeks but that's just because my
growth is crazy fast all he would do is
trim down some of those longer hairs
that would be poking out making the
beard look unruly trim the lip area so
the mustache isn't covering my mouth and
do a very gentle fade Around The
Sideburns this is by no means mandatory
to growing a good beard but it will help
make your beard look nicer throughout
the process of growing it and you can
definitely do it yourself as well you by
no means need to go to the barber for it
I just like the convenience of it and
that is all my friends once you've
reached your desired beard length all
you have to do is tidy it up once in a
while to keep it looking sharp keep
moisturizing it with beard oil and if
it's long enough use the beard balm to
condition and style it but most of all I
want to leave you with this be realistic
with your beard growth don't look at
someone else's beard who has different
genetics a fuller beard or maybe even
different hair type entirely and try to
copy that be realistic with what you can
achieve with your beard work with what
you have and go for a style that works
for you I promise you that no matter how
full or patchy your beard is there is a
style that will look great great on you
and whatever you go for just rock it
with confidence hope you enjoyed the
video guys hope you got some value from
it and if you did share it with a friend
who might enjoy it as well I wish you
all a beautiful day and I will see you
in the next one and cut
there should I go clean shaven for the
next one
